We went here for lunch, and ordered a BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, and the Brisket Sandwich as our entrees.  We had the Nachos and Mozzarella sticks as appetizers.  I'd give the cheeseburger a 2/5, the brisket 5/5, the nachos 2/5, and the cheesesticks 3/5.  The dining experience was fine, but we were 1 of 2 couples in the entire restaurant at the time.

I have been to Gio's a bunch of times as it's a great place to watch the game (Cubs, Blackhawks, Bulls).  They have good drink specials, a friendly staff (Ryan and James are awesome!), and the food is surprisingly good.  Especially the new bbq menu they just rolled out.  I was blown away with how good the pulled pork sandwich was.  I devoured the mac and cheese.  It is dangerous to go here when you're hungry! haha It's really just a fun and intimate neighborhood bar.  The owner Humberto is a great guy.  Always super friendly and easy going.  I just really enjoy this place.

Gio's is my favorite spot for some great karaoke!! Chris the host is AWESOME!! I was first introduced to this place about 6 years ago and it has been my favorite place to go ever since. I have been to other karaoke spots but I ALWAYS have fun at this place. The crowd and staff are really friendly and everyone gets into to it! Whether you are a good singer or a bad singer you will always get a cheer and there is a small dance floor to dance along to those tunes that get you moving :) I HIGHLY recommend this place for Saturday night karaoke

Fave spot for karaoke. FAVE. And there are a lot of karaoke joints in Chicago. Also, just an all-around great place to hang out with your neighbors.

    1) Karaoke hosts are awesome. Chris and the other hosts are fantastic, and will look up songs if they aren't in the books. Some places just won't bother. They want to ensure you have a GREAT time.

    2) The crowd is fantastic. Bartenders get into the mix. Almost everyone there is from the neighborhood and is friendly. You can bomb your song and still get a standing ovation (not so much at Louie's).

    3) You actually get to karaoke more than once a night! Most nights, my friends and I get to go up at least 3 or 4 times. It's a packed crowd, but packed here is about 40 people, vs. crowded at some places which means 100 people.

    4) Food is good for bar food. I'd gotten little things here and there, but read a Yelp review previously that mentioned "tater tachos". THOSE ARE MY JAM. Best creation ever.

    5) Bartenders rock. James and Jason (and the other bartenders who make an appearance here and there) are amazing...fast service, supppper friendly, and make you feel welcome. We're fairly regular karaoke-ers, and these guys will come up and give us a hug welcoming us in. Best bar staff in the city.

If you are looking for a high-end establishment, I'll admit - Gio's is probably not for you. It's a neighborhood bar, a little divey, and LOUD on karaoke night (which is sort of expected since people are belting out songs). However, if you want a taste of true Chicago hospitality, and want to have a BLAST with the Ravenswood crowd, this is the place to go.

    See ya soon, guys!

I have lived in Ravenswood for three years now and Gio's has always been a fun, reliable bar to relax and get sauced at. Ravenswood is slim pickins as far as bars are concerned, so it is quite a relief to find this local bar enjoyable and the clientele tolerable.

The service here has always been spectacular. About every other time, we are served by a middle aged gentleman who I believe is the owner. He is attentive and knowledgable of the goings on in Gio's which makes me want to support this bar even more.

I am a firm believer in supporting local businesses. Without mom n pop shops/dive bars, we wouldn't have the diversity and character in the various neighborhoods that Chicago is known for.

In short, residents of Ravenswood: go out and support your local speakeasy!!!

Eh. I love the location and the fact that it's small and cozy.  It's got that casual hole-in-the-wall vibe, but the tabletops are kept pretty clean.  However, what I can't abide are their exorbitant prices for sub par food.  Honestly, it's bad.  I know they've only got about one chef back there in a kitchen the size of a pantry but... I think this place would be much better off if they only offered about 8 super high quality dishes.  Why the brunches?! Over Easy and Dolce Casa down the road have mastered that already.  Again, focus on the quality of your food not the quantity.  The employees are hit and miss, but I think the owner is nice.  Lastly, it seems like all of the slightly creepy alcoholics in the neighborhood congregate here on weeknights.

Went here for a friends birthday last week, and this is seriously one of the friendliest bars I've ever been to. Now, your mileage may vary on that one, because I tend to be a person that just starts talking to people. I was chatting with a woman when my friends showed up, and they asked me "How long have you known X?" I had just met her! And this scenario played out several times that night as more people drifted in and out of our group.

The bartender was adorable and attentive. The place is clean and well kept. There is Karaoke. I may or may not have sang "Nookie" by Limp Bizkit, which I will deny if pressed.

I was nervous about going here because of the "sports bar" in their name, but don't be. What it is, is an amazingly friendly neighborhood hangout, filled with people who live in the area. Great!

Really great wings, and a non-pretentious atmosphere.  A surprisingly good outdoor section, as well.  Just moved into the neighborhood, and am looking forward to brunch and football there.

Our local pre-kickball bar, if only it were bigger and could support our entire Kickball group.  Food is decent (nothing to blow you away) but basic bar food done right.  Drinks are fairly priced and the staff is extremely friendly, all you need to make a good bar.

I went back to my old neighborhood bar to watch some soccer and grab some food and drinks. I loved the workers at Gio's and the food was great as well.

I ordered the new fish tacos and they were somewhere between tasteless and bad. Some liquidy mush that looked like refried beans and a tablespoon of rice on the side. I ordered the Gios hummus plate. I think there were about 6 little pita breads and 4 small celeries. Again, a disappointment.

Service was meh. I asked what their Goose Island seasonal beer was, she just poured me a pint (?). After trying it, I sent it back, and she was not too happy about pouring me a glass something else.

Sorry Gio's -- I won't be back. Sad, it was such a cool neighborhood spot.

I stopped in here last night because I missed my bus, so I decided to get a beer during my 30 min. wait!  I am SO glad I did, because I found out about their 25 cent wing special on Thursday nights!!  These are seriously the most legit Buffalo wings I've had in Chicago.  I'm from Buffalo and have searched very hard to find good wings, and nothing really compares.  These wings though were super meaty, really saucy and very tasty (not these dry, brittle, tiny wings that other places claim are Buffalo Wings). Also, they actually have Blue Cheese to go with their wings and have a bunch of other types too, so I'm sure those have got to be tasty too.

After way too many times of going to The Rail down the street for their wing night, I vowed to never go back about 6 months ago when I had yet another horrible time there.  I am so glad to know that I now have another wing special place in the neighborhood and it's actually worth going to! yay.  Also, the owner/bartender was SO nice- it was so refreshing and I'm definitely going back with friends next time! :)

It sounds like have different specials every night and I'm very intrigued by their Kareoke night!  :)

Decent neighborhood bar. I went with some of my skeeball teammates for Monday night trivia at 7:30. Since this was my first time here, I came a little bit early at 7 pm to scope out the table situation and it wasn't crowded at all. Lots of televisions for sports watching and specials everyday. I did get their $3 patty melt with fries special and I thought it was good. As for trivia, we came in 3rd place overall and led the competition after the 1st 2 rounds at one point. My only gripe was that I paid $5.50 for Stella a pint. I learned my lesson - Stick with the Miller Lite special.

My boyfriend and I live right down the street from Gio's, so it's our go-to spot whenever we don't feel like making dinner or going out farther away for a drink.  And, seriously, I never want to move to another neighborhood because I think I'd miss Gio's too much.

It's a bar with food that's not "bar food."  I always order the grilled cheese, which is made with thick, buoyant brioche bread that is crisp and buttery to perfection.  Sometimes we get guacamole as an appetizer, and they make it to order, so it's always fresh and delicious.  I practically want to lick my plate afterwards.

The staff is friendly and attentive.  They always remember us and make us feel welcome.  Chris, who runs the karaoke, is an absolute character.  He always says "hi" when I see him around town.  And, of course, I've gotten to know some of the other regulars too.  It makes Ravenswood feel like a small, quaint town where you really know your neighbors in the midst of a giant city.

Yet another post work hang-out!  Am I an alcoholic?!?  nah, just enjoy the occasional beer is all.

This place is chill, it's not too big, plenty of bar space, has a pool table and darts.  it's a great drinking spot and fun place to hang out in a total neighborhood bar feel.

I hear they have a patio, but in the crazy heat lately, I prefer the air conditioning.

Their food is great, especially the weekend brunch.  If Over Easy is too busy, come here instead and chase that hangover away with an Alpha King or another beer from their great selection.  Service is quick and friendly and I distinctly remembering the bar picking up a round or two during a marathon happy hour outing.  The outdoor seating is nice, particularly on the shaded Ainslie side.

Gio's holds a very special place in my heart.  The first time I was here, it was still "This Is It" and I was maybe 6 years old.  Mom worked here and we lived in the apartment that shares the building with Gio's so any time I'm back here, it's quite nostalgic.

An awesome place to go to before/after a softball game at Winnemac Park...

    Gio's has:
    a pretty decent size patio
    cheap beer
    A super nice staff
A solid selection of food to feed hungry softballers
Lot's of seating inside (if you're unlucky enough not to get a patio seat)

Note to everyone: if you are trying to go to Over Easy, the crazy-crowded breakfast place down the street, instead just go on over to Gio's.

That's exactly what we did when we found out the wait at Over Easy was going to be over an hour, for a table of two. Why would I wait an hour when Gio's offers some great and tasty brunch options? Yeah, at first Gio's seems like your typical corner bar/grill. And for the most part it is just that. But if you go under the surface, you will find some excellent things:

    1. Good brunch menu, with spectacular chilaquiles and a great Mexican skillet.
    2. $2 mimosas during brunch.
    3. Fast & friendly service.
    4. An outdoor patio.
    5. A decent beer menu with all the staples, plus a few good beers such as Matilda & Alpha King on tap.

They also have some dartboards and a pool table, along with a small amount of high-quality plasma TV's. I still do want to go to Over Easy some day, but most likely I'd keep ending up at Gio's either way.

I'll admit that Gio's was not our initial destination. But after being told the wait at Over Easy down the block was at least 1 hour for a table for 2 (no thanks) we settled on this place after checking out their decent-looking brunch menu.

    Service

We walked in expecting a typical neighborhood corner bar but came out pleasantly surprised.

The service was awesome. Our server was so friendly & great - even while doubling as both bartender and waitress.

She also did not even flinch when I asked if I could make some substitutions to my brunch order (think "When Harry Met Sally" kind of ordering) and even joked that my order was not difficult at all. My order came out quickly & perfectly :).

    Food/Drinks

The brunch menu has plenty of options - from omelets to French toast, sandwiches and burgers; you'll be able to find something for everyone here.  I looked over the lunch/dinner menus and they also have a huge selection of food and even a whole "healthy choice" section.

I ordered the spicy chilaquiles and will have to admit they were some of the best I've tasted; I felt like I was sitting at my mom's kitchen table. Definitely didn't expect to find that authentic taste here; it's rare to find a place that makes the salsa just right and this was the case - tasty, spicy & smoky. Topped with queso fresco, red onions, eggs and a delicious red spicy sauce - they were delicious.

Portion size was also very generous.

Good selection of beers (from dive bar beers to a few popular craft beers) and $2 mimosas for brunch - can't beat that!

    Atmosphere

Good seating options - both indoors and outdoors (large patios both in front and on the side), and adequate amount of flat screen TVs make this a great destination to catch your favorite sports. Looking for other activities? They offer trivia, karaoke and darts among other activities.

Yeah, this bar has probably seen better days and it's pretty no-frills, but the excellent service & food certainly make up for it. Looking forward to coming back to this friendly neighborhood bar!

I dislike this bar. It's florescent lighting makes me feel uncomfortable. It's dirty and smells like an old ashtray.  I also ordered a Stella that was on special and it tasted old and scummy, like pond water. I would not order food from here. It may have games to play and tv's to watch but it's so uncomfortable and there are better options in the area.
Not a fun dive bar experience.

Gio's has something for everyone.  Feel like chucking darts?  You can do that.  Playing pool?  You can do that.  Catching the game?  You can do that.  Attending a Goose Island-sponsored IPA tasting?  You can do that.  Even singing karaoke?  You can do that too!  They'll even SPONSOR your sports team if you're in a league.

Gio's is the quintessential neighborhood bar with some of the friendliest bartenders around.  On the day the Bears played the Packers in the NFC Championship Game, the bartender reserved a table for 15 of us (!), and was dyn-o-MITE at keeping our thirsty, birthday celebrating, wing-ravenous gang of boy and girl thugs happy.  They have great specials every day of the week too.

I can't say enough good things about Gio's.  You should get your ass(es) in there and support this business!

Wanted to grab breakfast around my hood after a long Saturday at a cubs game and BBQ (aka we were hung over to say the least). My first thought was Glenn's Diner, bad idea, place is always packed on Sunday. Second was Over Easy Cafe on N. Damen, upon arrival, more people waiting outside for a table, no thanks. Gio's was just down the street and only had one couple sitting outside, with a quick look at the menu; we decided to give it a shot.

Upon arrival the scene was typical dive bar so I was getting ready for some mediocre food. I was pleasantly surprised by this pub grub. I ordered a ham, spinach and cheese omelet complete with potatoes and toast which was very tasty. My female companion ordered the breakfast burrito which looked fantastic and tasted gourmet. The food came up quickly and both dishes were brought out by the cooks from the back (they were a little slow). Which I thought was a nice touch. Entrees prices were fair and didn't break the bank for lunch.

There was only one bar tender on for the day and she did a great job holding the place down. My one qualm, hence the 4 stars, was the Bloody Mary. For 6 bucks I would expect some brand of vodka that I could recognize. This was not the case. I mean for 6 bucks I should at least get Smirnoff and not something that cost them 6 dollars for the whole bottle.

Overall, Gio's was a great experience on a nice Sunday. A short walk or bus ride up Damen led us to a nice little neighborhood surprise.

This is a nice, local spot in my neighborhood.  It's nice to go to Gio's when you want a beer and want to avoid pretentious bars.  They have a nice patio.  Their specials are great - today (Sunday) is $3 Sloppy Joe and Fries.  Who doesn't love a sloppy joe?  They have great specials other days of the week as well.  Their staff is always courteous (even with there are stupid, drunk customers).

They now also have brunch on the weekends.  It's not my favorite brunch, but it's decent.  Gio's is your neighborhood bar that you like having in your neighborhood.

I may or may not have come here a few weekends ago and gotten wasted and sang a Cyndi Lauper song... and I do not do karaoke.

The karaoke is hilarious and the guy in charge of it is very serious about his karaoke.  I mean SERIOUS.

Good beer specials, which while I was there involved Goose Island Green Line which I enjoyed.

    Free Wi-Fi

    Serious karaoke

I enjoy small bars like this, it has more appeal to me then those that are jammed to the walls with annoying people. Prices were reasonable and the bar was well kept.We didn't stay for to long cause the karaoke was blasting in our ears but next time I'll probably get up there and embarrass the heck out myself. I mean you have to when the place says it's "The Best Karaoke in Town!"

Trivia night (Tuesday's) and Karaoke night (Saturday's) Seem to be the best days to stop by.

Silly us, thinking we could get a table at the Rail on ten cent wing night, and incidentally, Bears/Vikings MNF. Duh. The wait was at least thirty people deep.

We took spin class to somehow justify wings, so come hell or highwater, we were having wings. It was freezing, and walking distance from the Rail only offers a few bar options. There is no way I would eat at Chicago Ale House again (three strikes.) We like Gio's for booze and the corner tap atmosphere. Done.

Holy crap. The wings are AMAZING. They're 25 cents, so you may break the bank at $2.50 for dinner, but they are meaty, and I think roasted a little longer first which makes them juicy and a little less "mystery chunky", and they didn't come out in five seconds like the Rail, so I like to think they're almost made to order. It's trivia night on Monday, which is free and fun. I'm kicking myself for not trying them sooner. The hot wings are nice and buffalo-y, a good heat. The ridiculously hot (which I ordered) have a great mouth tingle. My lips were burnin' a little, but in that good way. They were a little more chipotle, with a good amount of crushed peppers.

Wings are bad for you. I love them so much and can honestly stomach them every day, so I need to use a good deal of restraint and reserve them for special occasions. $2.50 at Gio's makes that very difficult.

    Ah, Gios.

I used to live on Lawrence, near Damen and remember a dark time in my life when I visited this neighborhood bar every night... and every night was a long one.  Then, Gios was a little different.  The regulars were SO classic it was ridiculous: middle-aged men in pullover starter jackets, drunk and happy to get away from their homes for awhile.  I could always watch "the game", no matter what that happened to be and the place was always a bit grimy, and there was always someone to drunk to avoid putting his arm around me.  Somehow, these things make you feel at home.  Charlotte, the bar tender was wonderful and new what how to treat everyone, even the jerks that needed to get kicked out (sometimes by a fed up regular).  The owners can sometimes be a little curt, even rude, but that was fine too.  Closing time was closing time and drunken 65-year-old men don't seem to speak English at 1:45

Over the past couple of years, though, the crowd has gotten a little younger (and, dare I say, a little less humorous) as of recent but has led to some improvements on the place.  There are a couple more bartenders (also younger) that are amazingly friendly and attentive.  "The game" is always on with their 5 decently-sized plasma screens and the place has gotten a little bit brighter.  It seems more Andersonville now with it's dog bowls outside, which isn't bad.

One thing hasn't changed... The food.  Let it be known that, although the menu itself is a bit bipolar, it's seemingly perfect for a bar. It is simple enough to not necessitate in depth food choosing for the intoxicated (BONUS!!) and it specializes in 2 types of cuisine:  Greasy American and Mexican.  Perfect!!  The burgers are fantastic and have only improved over the years with hand-cut fries I had hoped for added to the menu recently.  The Mexican side of the menu is equally as competent.  I personally love the chilaquiles.  The brunch menu isn't bad either, though the potato in the breakfast burrito can be a bit overwhelming as large chunks of starch.  Overall, for my money (which they don't steal from me in large heaps) this place has fantastic, no frills bar fare cooked by some amazing guys.

The beer selection itself is ABSOLUTELY NORMAL.  they'll have one of just about every type of beer you want, so if you want that hard-to-find micro-brew you like, get the hell out of Chicago.  It's by no means is this a limited selection, people; it is functional.  Artisan beers are for people looking to drink one and those aren't the people who come to Gios.  But if you want a flavorful chaser after someone passes you a shot (unless you are the passer, which this place will make you want to be) this is a great place.  This is a place to drink and be merry, not drink and critique.

Adding to the Merriment is the patio.  There is NOTHING like drinking eating and talking to friends sitting on a Lincoln Square Corner on Sunday afternoon.  Hell, you might be taking in a little "hair-of-the-dog" after Saturday's karaoke.  This is my favorite place to go.  Apparently, it's a lot of peoples favorite, since it fills up quickly.  My one complaint is that this place is too small to house the number of awkward singers who get off on a great night run by Chris the short, charismatic karaoke master.  The song selection is better than almost anyplace (save for Trader Todd's, which kind stinks) and Chris himself is a fantastic singer if the crowd is being timid.

This bar is so neighborly and well-rounded, that you HAVE to respect it as one of fewer and fewer bastions of what a Chicago bar is supposed to be:  Wooden, dark, friendly, warm and inviting.  If I had moved a bit further,  i would still be there everyday.  This place makes you forget your problems with a cheers to those of the guy sitting next to you.

    I LOVE THIS PLACE

How do you a rate bar?

    did I get drunk? check

    do they serve food? check

Is it infested with Zombies? Ch--- just kidding

This place is a perfect example of a great neighborhood bar! Come in once, order a drink, say hi to the bartender and I will guarantee the next time you walk in ... Jason knows your name, what you were drinking and some random story you blabbed while you were three jame-o's into the night.

side note - I once saw Jason the California Surfer Ninja Bartender leap, from flat foot to bar top, to protect his bar patrons from some loon job who rolled in off the street looking to cause touble... I am not even kidding. Protection! Now thats something you dont find at most places! Who doesnt want to drink and know that the alcohol ninja is protecting them?

Foods good, they got karaoke on Saturday nights, Cheep drinks, pool, darts and theres always killer tunes .... until someone plays lady gaga. Its everything you would want in a neighborhood joint plus some ....

In this review, I talk of karaoke.

I went here two Saturdays in a row, just for the karaoke. I don't know much about nothing else but the, karaoke. Food, drinks, service? Naw, naw, naw see. . . karaoke.

This is my new spot for singing into a mic along to music of songs written and usually performed by others. The books are listed by artist AND song. I knew I couldn't be the only one that thought this should be an automatic provision. Other places. . ketch-up mustard! The song selection is extensive too which means plenty of variety. The place is small and rather doesn't make for a lot room to move around, but I happen to like that here. Gets you interacting with more than just the people you came with.

The only thing is waiting your turn, which can't really be helped, but it's hard to get in more than one song in your visit. Oh and Jeebus!, there is this one chick that was there both times I went who I very much hope isn't the next time I go cause I will just walk right back out. She seems to be a regular and is beyond obnoxious. Steadily yelling and ruining other patrons' time. She can clear out the bar when she gets up to sing and last time had to have her mic cut off since she wouldn't relinquish it. It's like she's injected Red Bull into her veins!! Regulars are grand and all, but not when they run off your other customers.

Outside of the crazy-super-hyper chick, this bar is great for karaoke on a laid back Saturday night. However, if she's there (trust me you'll know within 5 minutes if she is) don't think you can wait it out. She doesn't leave nor does she shut-up, lol.

New and improved wings and Gio's?  DANGEROUSLY awesome.

They used to taste like they were a mix between buffalo and BBQ with some weird peppers thrown in.  Now?  Butter and hot sauce, like the goddess of chicken wings intended it to be.

Also, the bartender is everyone's friend.  I think he should be alderman or something.  No one doesn't love that guy.  He can somehow serve to the entire bar like he has eight arms or something and still make you feel like he's your buddy and likes your table best.  That's a talent.

    Hello, fifth star, Gio's!

Chicago needs more bars like this.

It's a solid mix of "local hangout" and "kinda divey".

There's a ton of TV's, darts, pool, a jukebox, an insanely friendly bartender who acts as a waiter, and awesome food & drink specials.

As an added bonus, this place is within crawling distance from my BFF's new house so I will definitely be here ALL THE EFFING TIME.

The day called for a change of pace. All softball games moved to Winnemac Park, as Folk Fest invaded Welles Park.

So, where to go afterwards? A bunch of thirsty, dusty, coed rec softball players in need of beer...strolled to Gio's. The patio is fantastic. Can't beat it on a warm (yet entirely windy, I got beer spilled on me many a time, summer day in Chicago). Food was fine, just great for a bar. Pitchers of Miller Lite $9. Lots of seating, one guy running the whole bar...and doing it quite well.

Def a nice place to stop in, I hear their Saturday night karaoke is pretty stellar. I think a few $9 pitchers and I might just sing for Gio's. We'll see ;)

So, Sarah B. and I were here last Saturday night after our Ribfest plans got rained out.  Just wanted to play a game of darts and enjoy a beer or two.  After we were accosted by a skeevy drunk in a wife beater who demanded our darts so he could get us a bullseye, Sarah B. turns to me and says "Yeah.  This is definitely a dive bar."

But that's okay.  Because sometimes you need a skeevy guy in a wife beater (who you later finds out lives in your building, great!) to laugh at to liven up an evening.

Gio's gets points for the super-friendly service, the tasty jalepeno artichoke dip, and the hot bartender who dashed outside to break up a fight (guess what?  Skeevy guy in the wife beater again.  Did I mention he lives in my building?)  Also, the outdoor seating area is nice and great for people watching.

I'll be back.  Skeevey guys or no skeevy guys.

Good place to go on a rainy, Saturday night--not crowded at all.  Although the a/c ducts leaked a little as we played darts.  $6 22oz Fat Tire on Saturdays too.

Karaokee on Saturdays, but we didn't stay.  As Alyssa said, "Bars still have karaokee?"

    *******************

Gio's is doing a good job straddling that fence between old man/blue collar dive and hip place for casual hanging out
Many pros here: drink and food specials (cheap is good!), enough tv's--and not too many, clean bathrooms, dart and pool tournaments, and an outdoor patio on the not too busy Damen.

I thought the service was decent, although we just went to the bar (didn't see a waitress/er).

Good place to meet up with locals.

I've only been there on a Saturday for Karoake. But it's quite good.

First of all, the bar is just that; a bar. Very lackluster, but they have a decent beer selection. But..

Their Karoake is top-notch. I would say it's mostly due to the guy that runs the show. He's a rather stout kinda short dude, but  he sings a great tune between the lulls when the audience gets shy. And as a host, he's great. He keeps it going even when it get slow. It's a tough job, & he does it brilliantly!

So go for their Karoake (sat I think?) and u will be very happy with thelevel of keraokeosity. ;)

Thank God for Gio's or we'd all have to drink at the Leadway.  This is just a great neighborhood tap with outdoor seating, nightly drink specials, friendly service, decent bar food and TVs so you can watch the game.  Pretty much everything you could want in a neighborhood joint.  It's a great place to meet a friend if you live around here and your place is too dirty to actually have them over.

And yeah, you don't have to go to the Leadway.

Found it because it's a friend's neighborhood bar.  Which pretty much captures it -- a local bar, pretty typical place.  We go for karaoke on Saturdays, which is a pretty fun time.  You'll see a lot of the same people week to week and the song selection is good.

On the other hand, I once heard La Bamba performed 3 or 4 times within a half hour, a feat accomplished because the group was tipping the karaoke guy well.  Luckily it was the very end of the night, because one can only withstand repeat karaoke like that when one is very tipsy.

The only reason this place gets even two stars is because it's close to my place, the beer isn't outrageously priced and they have a patio.

Otherwise- the staff is rude and the overpriced food sucks (READ moldy hamburger bun.)  Their martini special isn't that special, unless you like Shirley Temples and aren't looking for a real drink.

I say- it's good for a beer on a sunny day, but that's about it.

Gio's has morphed from what seemed like a hangout for underage drinkers with gang affiliation to a bar with a 10% hipster count in a span of less than 2 years.

They serve decent bar food of burgers, chicken with fries to go with that. The ubiquitous golf, pool table and televisions tattoo the place. They also have free wireless connectivity (I don't get it either) should the need to surf the web hit you while you are drinking.

Their bar has your run of the mill brew, but I always cheer for ANY bar that stocks Goose Island beer be it tap or bottle. So kudos to Gio's.
