Grace Tavern

A friend and I went to Grace after reading several bad reviews about the service.  However, we were starving and it was close - you throw your standards out the window in situations like that, ya know?

Anyhow, we walked in and were immediately greeted by one of the bar tenders.  We sat ourselves and another bar tender was over quickly to take our drink orders.  After all was said and done, we shared an order of fries, and I had the Grace burger w/ green beans.  It. was. mind-blowingly delicious.  And the service continued to be awesome!

My only complaint was that there was a long hair in our fries.. Eww.. But you know that moment when you swallow your dignity, finish off your drink and carry on with the delicious food?  Yeah.. That happened..  And I'm only a little ashamed.

Grace Tavern is not meant for medium to large groups and every time I've been here its been with my dodgeball team not everyone comes out be the smallest we've had is 5 or 6 and that seems to be to large for this place.  The bar is always full, there isn't a ton of standing room and they don't seem to like it if you move the tables around.  So its not an ideal after dodgeball spot but it is the closet bar to where we play so I've frequented it often.  The beer list is usually good.  And I can see why this would make the Top 50 Bar list but I've personally its just ok to me.  Maybe if I try going in a smaller group of 2 or 3 max I might enjoy this place more.

I've been meaning to write something nice about Grace Tavern for a long time. When my boyfriend and I moved to Philly two years ago, we wandered around our neighborhood looking for a bar that could be our "home" bar. We found it in Grace for a number of reasons. First and foremost, the service. We love the bartenders, especially Rees and Mike. They were some of the first people we met in Philly and I'm always happy to walk in Grace and see them, even if it's too busy to chat. Second, the burgers are the best. Get them with the beans or the fries. It doesn't even matter which burger you order, it's going to be the best. Third, it's a comfortable atmosphere. Come here after work. Come before a night out. Stagger in afterwards. It's always welcoming and you're not going to be surrounded by idiot college kids. We don't make it to Grace as often as we used to, but it will always be our "home" bar for these reasons.

A side rant:  Why are so many adults walking around without their ID's?  What if something would happen to you?  Please lay off the staff for carding you, IT'S THEIR JOB no matter how old you look.  Most people wouldn't go to your place of work, ask you to bend the rules, and then get upset when you don't.  Let's say you are an accountant and I came to your office and simply told you, I made 30k this past year. Would you do my taxes?  No. Because it's illegal and you would be liable, right?  Give them a break, they're liable too.
