This was our first visit to Grandma's this past Tuesday to play darts.  Haven't seen Mean Jean in years.  There she was behind the bar, that welcoming scowl and cranky attitude.  She kinda starts pissing you off until you have more beers.  But, she was very attentive to us and kept our glasses full.  I saw some of the food coming out and it looked ok.  We do plan to try it.  It smelled good but it didn't look any more special than any other bar food.  But...I shall reserve judgment.  The place is in the West Bottoms, close to where we live so it's rather convenient.  We liked the music and it wasn't too loud.  The place is clean.  What I didn't care for, was the gaggle of people camped out in front of the place like we were walking into a seedy trailer park.  One of the gaggle  had the door to their vehicle open, blocking the sidewalk so we had to walk out onto the street and around the vehicle in order to get to Grandma's door.  Now, these aren't teenagers or even 20-somethings behaving badly, these are much older people behaving like they are on a big drunk in the commons area of the town trailer park.  Did not appreciate this at all.  I guess everyone has their own way of performing the "look at me! look!" act.  Anyway, once inside we had a nice time with the other dart team.  They were friendly enough and it was a pleasant evening over all.  If I'm going to have to climb over people on a public sidewalk or even walk out into the street in order to get in the door?  May be too much trouble and not worth going back, no matter how cheap the beer is or how good the food is.  Businesses need to practice some discretion when allowing customers to loiter directly outside the entrance of their establishment.  Although I was not intimidated, I noticed others were and the vehicle door pulled out over the sidewalk, making it impossible to walk to the door is clearly intimidating or at the very least sending a negative message.  Grandma probably ought to clean that up and ask her regulars not to impede the traffic into her establishment.

I don't care for (actually hate it) when a bar owner that was very happy to take my money when she owned a gay bar does not now want gay people to show affection in her new non gay bar.  I understand if she doesn't want to promote Grandma's as nothing more than a bar, but to vocalize that she doesn't want "our type" to take over her bar now, more than slapped me in the face.

My partner and I, along with friends and co-workers (some straight, some gay) stopped by Grandma's after a work party to enjoy a couple more drinks in a quiet and laid back place.  We noticed the owner as one of the original owners of Tootsie's and said it was good to see her and asked how Grandma's was working out.  That is when she flatly, with no personality stated her thoughts.  Never again do I need to step foot into this place.  If she would have just said "good", "thanks for stopping in" or "I appreciate your business", I would have never thought one bad thing.  But she didn't and I will happily give my money to any other dive bar in our fair city.

This was my first time to the west bottoms and stop by Grandma's to play some darts. Its not a bad little place. Cheap beer and good music.

I have been trying to find a good place for wings and I found it!!!  happy hour offers 50cent wings.  They are fall off the bones, sweatin goodness!!  The the buffalo wings are amazing. Grandma slow cooks them for 3 hours and has home made ranch blue cheese dressing for the side. The buffalo  sauce is so spicy that i was sweating as i devour them.
