Great bbq
I have eaten here twice and both times have been a great experience. The salmon appetizer is delicious as well as the tuna (roll it yourself) sushi. I have tried every meat item on their menu and they are all outstanding. The best are the hirami and brisket. You receive the meat raw and grill it on your table. the servers are really good at explaining cooking times for each different meat. The veggies I could do without, though. They are plain and not very flavorful. The s'more dessert has a beautiful presentation and it's a lot of fun. Prices are great during happy hour, I advise going then.
Love this place!
I came in here to check out their lunch specials AKA "Happy Hour" which runs from 11:30-6 everyday and it turned out to be the best decision ever.
I have eaten at many Korean bbqs (my bf is Korean and we used to live in Hawaii, practically an epi-center of great korean food) and this one is definitely at the top of the list!
We ordered a pitcher of Kirin and it was only $8...can you really beat that? Then we started with a variety of appetizers. It was awesome to see Ahi Poke on the menu, one of our favorites from Hawaii. It was delicious, a good portion, although they did serve it with horseradish (maybe instead of wasabi?) which was a little confusing. We had the edamame which was steamed and salted perfectly, the fried gyoza dumplings, the crab shumai, seaweed salad and assorted kimchee. It was all an amazing place to start.
From there we ordered a variety of meats, none of them too expensive (happy hour's the best!) like prime rib eye, yaki-shabu brisket, shrimp, korean kalbi, toro style kalbi, and bara kalbi. It's all really good and tasty, especially with their spicy sauce, a mouth full of white rice and kimchee, washing it down with some beer.
We were so pleased that we came back for dinner on a Friday night (got to sit upstairs at the bar while waiting for our table to be ready which was a vibrant, energetic and fun scene). We tried a lot of the same things, but this time added on chicken, and tofu chiage soup. I love this place because it's no frills! Everything that's spicy is authentically spicy. It's authentic, delicious and done right.
I would absolutely recommend this place for a date or for groups. Lots of fun, great atmosphere, excellent service.
So the folks I was working with in Chicago wanted to have a fun eating experience and surprisingly all of them had not been to a Korean/Japanese BBQ grilling spot. They all loved bbq so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to try this experience out for them. Now to start this review obviously I have been to a ton of Korean and Japanese BBQ joints so of course I was up for the experience.
Our party arrived during the happy hour time which was great. The menu is quite extensive including their drinks. A lot of the sakes were approximately $4 to $7 which was great and each of the meats $3 to $12 or so which includes chicken, seafood, and Kobe Kalbi being the most expensive one if I recall correctly. We are brought inside the joint and we were brought up to the second floor. It was not busy on a Wednesday afternoon so there was no wait for our group. There are multiple tables with a grill in the middle and the ventilation above. We order a whole slew of meats during the happy hour special. Definitely enough to fill everyone's stomach. The meat is good and tender but I have had plenty of other experiences with Japanese/Korean BBQ and unfortunately this does not rank among the top of that list. The service is attentive and quick which I definitely appreciated towards the end as it was getting packed. I think it's a fun place to eat with a group and its conveniently located close enough to the loop so that you do not have to drive very far out. Definitely check out their Happy Hour Specials because that is the best bang for the buck!
LOVED THIS PLACE!  My boyfriend I went during happy hour for lunch. The food was amazing, service was excellent, and the price was right!!  I highly recommend the Yaki shabu  brisket and Harami miso skirt steak!  We had the fried crab shumai for an appetizer.  We can't wait until we go back!
Review Source:Nice girl's night dinner. Â Reminded me of fondue dining, where you cook your own food, but you're grilling. Â The food was seasoned well, our waiter was fantastic. Â But the thing about cooking your own food is you tend to forget about it because you're enjoying meal or conversation. Â But, I'll definitely go back.
Review Source:Dern good Korean BBQ, but honestly this may be more of a review of the style of food in general than this specific restaurant.
Still, the undeniable awesomeness of Korean BBQ cannot be overemphasized, and there isn't a plethora of Korean BBQ options in that area of the city (or really in Chicago as a whole). Â Despite a lack of competition, Gyu-Kaku still pumps out some delicious eats. Â I would recommend just getting one of the many pre-selected combos of meat, but if you'd like, you can order a la carte, I just don't think the benefit of that extra effort will be worth your time.
Be forewarned: They have an odd and near compulsive issue with you using your chopsticks to retrieve the meat from the grill. Â My waitress replaced my chopsticks without my request multiple times after catching me grabbing finished pieces of meat with them.
One of our friends had a small bday get together at this place and it was everyone's first time. We walked in on a real cold day and even though the reservation was for 8pm we didn't get seated until 8:40pm. Yeah, it was quite a long wait all because they were backed up. Well, not a great first impression. I was a little upset because why do I have to stand around and wait to be seated when I made a reservation a week in advance for this exact reason.
Anyways, we were finally seated. The place was packed. It was a Saturday evening and I could see that every table was busy. So we were seated and the table had a cooking grill placed right in the middle. There were four of us and because of the grill in the center of the table, through out the night we were having a bit of trouble placing our dishes and trying to find spots to put our drinks. Anyways, getting back to the food, it was excellent. They bring out the meat for you and then you get to grill it yourself. The menu is quite extensive and there is a lot of choice. Since you cook it yourself, you get to cook it however rare or well done you want it.
The staff was super polite and helpful. Every time we asked them to change the grill, they did so, fast and polite. The way they explain everything was absolutely great. They tell you how much time it takes to cook the ingredients, where to place certain ingredients and then the mixture of sauces that were on the table...what sauce goes with what. I could not think of anything that would make this place any better. Not only was the food great, the service was excellent at the table.
Love this restaurant. Great atmosphere and definitely a fun dining experience. Â Come here during Happy Hour (prices are cheaper) and try their garlic noodle. They're delicious! Service was good. if its your first time there, your waiter will thoroughly explain how to use the grill. Also, I would recommend if you are coming on a weekend to reserve a table prior to coming as they can get pretty busy.
Review Source:What a great spot! Â Sad it has taken me so long to discover this gem. Â Five friends and I enjoyed a memorable dinner and many rounds of cocktails (very affordable at $4-$5 each, which is a steal given the location). Â The food was unbelievable -- definitely go with the a la carte, as you will save money and still get more food than can be comfortably consumed. Â We had a selection of Appetizers to start...the Sukiyaki is one of those can't miss kind of dishes and the Volcano roll was also really tasty. Â I'm not a huge fan of Kimchi, but my friends seemed to really enjoy it and commented several times that it had good spice and good flavor. Â You can't really go wrong with any of the meat selections, but I'd say my personal favorite was the Skirt Steak which was marinated to perfection with a flavor that was just to die for. Â If I could do it all over again, I'd pass on the Assorted Veggies -- they were good, but nothing special. Â I'd much rather save the room in my belly for more meat! Â Total bill was just under $250, including multiple rounds of drinks, dessert, and more food than was probably necessary. Â My friend had some sort of frequent customer card and that knocked another $25 off our bill. Â This place is quite a value and lots of fun. Â Call for reservations on the weekend, as it was packed and quite a few were turned away. Â Thanks Gyu-Kaku....we'll be back!!
Review Source:The first time I dined in at Gyu-Kaku was in New York and I enjoyed it. So when I saw that there was one in Chicago, I knew I had to take my Gf and a couple of friends here to try it out.
It's a DIY type of restaurant so don't come here if you're lazy to cook. :P You order the meat and vegetables and then you grill them on your table. Keep in mind all the meat is seasoned and marinated for you already.
Rose, our waitress, was very knowledgeable. She explained to us how long we should leave each item on the grill for. We ordered so many items that when everything was sitting on the table, we had no idea what was what. lol.
PS. Bring a Gyu-Kaku to Houston! :)
Their lunch special is a unbeatable deal on Michigan avenue. Their dinner is a bit too expensive for my taste but in return you get to order top quality meat.
My favorite dish is garlic butter mushroom.
Sandwich the roasted meat with Lettuce makes it less oily, more crispy and more flavorful.
This place is legit! We ordered the combo platter for 2 and it was definitely enough. You get to grill the meat right at your table so you can get the meat just how you like it. We were able to try many different meats and the rice that was served with it was definitely tasty.
I would not suggest the lamb if you do not like the game-y taste. I love lamb and even this lamb was a little rough. All the other meats were seasoned perfectly and tasted great. Each server came and gave us cooking times for each meat and were very friendly. We did not have enough room for the smores but I was definitely full/impressed enough as it is.
I would recommend this place for groups or for a date, it won't disappoint.
amazing! is the word I'd use to describe this place. Â I had never been to this place and had heard sooo many good things about it from a few different friends that I decided to get a group of 10 people together to go and try this place out for Restaurant week. Â and everyone absolutely enjoyed their dinner and it was probably my best meal of restaurant week.
Drinks were cheap and good. Â a lychee martini was $6, and sochu drinks were $4. Â a comment someone made was that if he had known it was only $4 he would've ordered 4 more!
this was probably the easiest dinner we've ever done with that many people. Â Margaret, told us about the restaurant week specials and a few meats that she recommended. Â then she proceeded to tell us about a family style dinner for 10 people that cost $300. Â perfect! Â better than the $33 pp for restaurant week and we got to try at least 7 different meats with appetizers and s'mores for dessert. Â everything was delicious, and there were no complaints about any of the meal. Â Margaret was very attentive to us and gave us great recommendations on the meal. Â our personal favorite was the Duck... absolutely delicious.
s'mores seems odd for an asian restaurant, but it fit in perfectly with the grill being right in front of you and we were able to roast our own marshmallows. Â
to top it off, figuring out the bill was super easy and we were actually not short on the bill for once! Â not an easy feat with 10 people!
so would we come back? Â yes! Â everything was great! Â and now I know why soo many friends rave about this place.
Overall experience: A+
For those of you who are boring and lazy, this place is not for you. For those of you who do not know how to cook or grill, learn before coming here. And if you expect someone else to cook for you, don't waste your time.
You walk in and it feels like you are in a Japanese restaurant. I've never been to an authentic one in Japan, but for Chicago it's pretty typical. But you're not here for the decor.
Service: A+
Jessi was an awesome waitress, cool and friendly! Knowledgeable and patient! Greeted us with a smile. Explained the menu, but we were here for restaurant week. Food was brought out and explained how to cook the meats.
Food: A+
Due to restaurant week, the menus were prix-fixe. We came here for lunch, which was $22 per guest. My gf and i picked two starters: ahi poke & fried crab shumai (both half orders). We both shared the entrees. She got the premium Chicago set and i got the premium gyu-kaku set. Both sets served with gyu-kaku salad, miso soup, & a large bowl of rice. The meat was marinated and the seafood portions were fresh. For dessert, she had doriyaki green tea ice cream and i had s'mores. And hot sake for $3!
We had a wonderful time and we hope you enjoy as much as we did.
Happy hour is a great time to come here (probably the only time I would visit).
The meat we got was well marinated, though a bit salty. Any of their beef portions were delicious and easy to cook, and the HH drink specials were also an excellent value. But the best deal of all were their bibimbaps (the salmon one, for example, was large enough for two - for merely six or seven dollars).
Certain items though - the pork belly in particular - were simply poor quality meat. You can't get around that with marinade.
Friendly servers and great food :D Being Japanese, Japanese food and hospitality is what I miss the most. Gyukaku is a big chain restaurant in Japan, and I am really glad I can get the same service here in Chicago. Not to mention the quality of food (yummm!), I can tell servers are trained very well. I have never met any rude servers at Gyukaku. In addition, it's one of the only places you can get "real" Japanese green tea ice cream.
Review Source:Awesome lunch deal. Â For ~$16 (including tip) I got:
- A plate of kobe beef to grill at my tabel
- Large bowl of rice
- Large salad
- Miso soup
Not bad (considering that it is kobe beef) and this is a yaki niku place.
I had been searching for a good yaki niku place after having been to some AMAZING ones in Japan, and this is a good substitute. Â I haven't tried their ramen or appetizers yet, but I'm excited to. Â Apparently they have a great happy hour deal on their appetizers as well that I need to check out too since they have some of my favorites.
Now if only I could find a good okonomiyaki and takoyaki place in Chicago I'd be set!
food taste: A-/B+
not bad. i approve. imma have to say that i am a meat lover, especially meat that's flavored and marinated in sawces, and gyu-kaku does a pretty good job at making their meat sawces. sweet potatoes were great. but maybe im biased cuz i just love sweet potatoes in general and i love em all even if other people think they might taste bad.
service: A+
waiters/waitresses were extremely nice and helpful. they tell you everything you need to know and constantly checks on you to see if you're stuck or anything. the people next to me were new to this grilling thing and the waitress was so helpful to them. i was impressed by the customer service.
here's where it falls apart though...
price for the quantity of food: C-
as a korean, im used to getting all you can eat korean bbq for like 20 bucks. i feel like i got a lot less meat at gyu-kaku while paying more. also some of the "appetizers," like vegetables, that you have to pay for at gyukaku is free at korean bbq places. for someone who eats a lot, the price starts to climb up pretty quickly...
3.5/5 because it's too expensive for a fatty like me who could devour meat all day errday.
Awesome place to feast on delicious Japanese meat while satisfying the inner-grillmaster in you. Added bonus of being inexpensive compared to other Meat DIY's in Chicago.
$65 for the Samurai special for two! Â It's essentially a meat feast for two people including miso soup, salad, a (delicious) sushi appetizer, Bimbimbap, four very well marinated meat varieties, and S'mores (yup, S'mores). Â It's a lot of food, come hungry if you go with this option.
Having tried multiple Korean BBQ places with the similar grill-it-yourself experience, I can say that the meat at Gyu-Kaku was better marinated and higher quality than all. Also the Bimbimbap rice was awesome. It's prepared table-side, and in my opinion a much better accompaniment than the cold tapas-like plates at Korean counterparts.
This is just a really fun way to eat and a GREAT date place. You cook the meat yourself in the middle of the table into your vision of meat perfection - it's interactive food. The booths upstairs are comfortable and intimate. A great place to take that leading lady or dude.
Only real gripe here is that we went on a Friday and the place was packed - it was obvious they were trying to get us in and out as soon as possible. Subtle yet annoying stuff like bringing the soup and salad at the same time. As a man who likes to sit, digest, and chill this was unwelcome. That being said, we had a great time and the food was spectacular.
This place is great! Â The upstairs bar is my favorite chill bar in the city. Â To me, it has a NYC feel to it (probably because I used to go to the one in NY when I lived there). Â Very cheap drinks and appetizers from their "Happy Hour" menu, and the bartenders, Preston and Patty, are the best.
The restaurant is good too. Â What's better than plates of raw meat that you get to grill right at the table? Â Nothing!...That's what's better.
This place is absolutely amazing. Â I will be going back again and again and again. Â In fact, we were there a few days ago and are already trying to make plans to eat there this week sometime....it's that good! Â And affordable! Â Was so surprised the total bill for our group of 6. Â Everything we ordered tasted fresh, was marinated to perfection, and was easy to cook! Â Well, aside from the salmon, we had just switched our grill for a new/clean one and this drastically changed the cooking times and made the salmon difficult to predict. Â
Great food and tons of fun grilling the food yourself. Â Great date or group dinner night.
Gyu-Kaku is a nice place for a happy hour glass of champagne on a Fri - HOLY SHIT WATCH OUT! THERE'S A FIRE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TABL - wait, we can cook meat on it? Like, meat we can eat? And at happy hour it's as cheap as 2-3 dollars? AND I CAN GRILL IT AT MY TABLE? Ok, that shit is dank. Who knew this was actually a thing, but I'll be back. (Seriously though, I did almost burn myself like five times.)
Review Source:Came here for a work lunch on a Wednesday, pretty good place for the location! They have a lot of happy hour specials as others have posted. Pretty extensive menu for those not only looking for grilled beef.
Tried chili shrimp dumplings, crab shumai, tuna volcano dish, and kimchi for our appetizers. Those were just ok @ decent prices ($4-$7). Probably would just get kimchi next time.
I got the 'meat lovers' Â lunch set (for fatasses) while my coworkers got the kobe beef set. The meat lovers set (two different types of beef) comes with probably twice as much meat as the kobe beef lunch, but the meat is not as good quality. One of the beef portions was fatty and good while the other was super chewy when grilled. Wouldn't recommend that.
Service was pretty good overall, I would definitely come again!
When I meet friends after work, this is usually our default place for happy hour eats. Â We've had a few bumps along the way, but management and the servers are quick to remedy any issues or concerns we have. Â
I've have a good amount of the items on the menu and usually lean towards beef items to grill. Â We usually end up ordering 1 or 2 dishes too much, but that is a given. Â
As far as the wait goes, I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes and I've come at all times of the day through out the week.
I love love LOVE Gyu-Kaku! I loved this chain in California and I was so happy they opened a location in Chicago. Â One of my favorite things about this place is that I don't end up smelling like BBQ afterwards, meaning I can still go out in public without dogs wanting to eat me. :P
I go here mainly for the lunch and happy hour specials, which are available every day of the week. You get SO much food for the price, definitely the best bang for the buck! Â Dinner is a bit more pricey, so I tend to avoid it. Â My favorite thing to order is the Meat Lovers lunch special which comes with soup, salad, and rice. Â My favorite appetizers are definitely the ahi poke and kimchi. Â If you're going a la carte, definitely go for the ribeye and kalbi (take advantage of happy hour prices)!
Avoid the chicken. I've never ordered it personally, but I've tried it and it's definitely the least appealing item on the menu.
This was my first Korean/Japanese BBQ experience and it was delicious! Ok since it was my first time I have no idea what the difference is between Korean and Japanese BBQ... and I don't care because my tummy and palette were sooo happy
We ordered the Geisha and Samurai meals for the 4 of us, which was the perfect amount of food. For the rice dish we got the Bibimbap, and this was so goooood! They customize how spicy you want it (not spicy for me please). Mmmm I could have some right now.
The meat was soooo fresh, and high grade. The marinated meat especially was so soft and juicy. Mmmmm. It came meat by meat very slowly, but it was great timing. The smores in the end were so yummy, but it would have been nice to get a different chocolate, not just simple hersey's :)
The service was very good, the waitress was good. We were first offered to sit upstairs where you have to sit on the floor and take off your shoes, we asked to sit on the chairs, and we were put at a table right away
My mouth is watering just thinking about this place!
Where were the pork buns??? I've been to one of the locations in NYC a couple times. The second time they were out of their amazing pork buns and it was really sad.
This location didn't even have them. Â But it was fine! I came here with two guys so we were definitely into ordering the meat. We got the tuna maki roll appetizer in our meal and I wish they pre-rolled these. I was with a non-sushi eater and I'm sure he would've appreciated them being pre-made vs. self-roll at the table.
Meats were well marinated and delicious as usual. They forgot to bring us a couple dishes and had to be reminded. I gave this one 3 stars because it was really good but I expect perfect from Gyu given prior experiences!
To my surprise... I really liked this restaurant! Went here on a weeknight without a reservation and we were seated right away. It wasn't busy, so there was plenty of available tables.
Food & Drink - Gyu-Kaku is like... Japanese tapas! And bbq tapas style. It's awesome... The plates are small, allowing you to try a few different things. The prices are amazing, but since the portions are small, you could rack up a decent bill without realizing it. They had great specials on drinks... there aren't many places in Chicago (or any major city) where you could get a cocktail for $5!! They even had a few that were $4! The drinks were pretty weak, but they were tasty.... what else do you expect for $4 drinks?? For food, we had the kalbi, the skirt steak, chicken, cucumber kimchi, and smores for dessert. The skirt steak and cucumber kimchi were delicious. The kalbi wasn't great quality and the chicken's seasoning was a bit plain.
Service - our server was fantastic! He provided suggestions and directions once the food arrived. They tell you how many minutes to cook each meat and he changed out the metal plate a few times. Very attentive... great service!
Ambiance - It's pretty low-key... not loud, only the quiet chatter of other patrons. It's a great place to go with friends! Overall, everything was great!! It's a place where you can go eat for a few hours without spending hundreds of dollars.
I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 because of the kalbi and chicken. However, the skirt steak was great and I would go back to try the other items on their menu!
My friends and I came here a few weeks ago for their happy hour.
The happy hour menu was so cheap that we ended up ordering too much food. In the end, we probably consumed about two servings or more per person for about $40 per person.
A lot of people liked their sauces. I thought they were just okay. The spicy sauce wasn't nearly spicy enough for me, and it was a little on the sweet side too.
I don't know what the difference is between Korean BBQ and Japanese BBQ. It's definitely not the coal though; some Korean BBQ places use that too. It probably has to do with the marinades and the side accompaniments.
For sides, we ordered:
- seaweed salad. Decent.
- the spicy cold tofu dish. This was good and fragrant because of the spring onions on top.
- the assorted kimchi bowl. It's comprised of mostly radishes as opposed to cabbages. Pretty decent.
- hot oil seared salmon. This was decent too. It's topped with spring onions and ginger.
We also ordered the sukiyaki bibimbap. It tasted like a mix between bibimbap and the Chinese sticky rice dish. It's alright.
For BBQ-ing, we ordered;
- beef tongue
- chicken
- spicy pork
- shrimp
- garlic butter mushrooms
- salmon
- sweet potato
- some kind of kalbi (I don't remember which)
Everything was pretty decent. The place was so loud though, that even with the server right next to me (I was sitting at the edge of the table), I couldn't hear her explain how long to cook some of the stuff. Some of our food ended up a little more burnt and some were a little undercooked. It was a little bit of a disaster. I left the restaurant hoping that I wouldn't get an upset stomach from dinner.
I'll preface this with the fact that the only reason it's not 5 stars is the price. Even during happy hour, I dropped over 60 bucks for my girlfriend and myself and I felt like all I had eaten was an appetizer.
Here's what we had:
Hirami Miso Skirt Steak - So tender and flavorful, I couldn't get enough. I should have ordered about 30 servings. My only regret.
Kobe Style Toro Beef - Also tender and flavorful, I couldn't get enough. I should have ordered about 30 servings. My other only regret.
Scallops - Hmm, this was also tender and flavorful, I couldn't get enou--- wait... I think I'm gonna end up writing this for everything.
Shrimp - See above
Horumon Intestine - Yay! Intestines are always a little chewier than any meat but they did a great job marinating it. It still has the chewiness but it's still easy to eat, even for non-intestine lovers.
Zucchini and Mushroom Medley - Gotta have some veggies so I don't feel as bad about myself for eating so many animals. Don't get the zucchini. I don't know why I thought the zucchini at this place was going to be amazing. Zucchini is zucchini. But the mushroom medley is delicious. Keep it wrapped in the foil and add some ponzu sauce and let it marinate. You won't be disappointed.
A great place for a date as you won't smell like BBQ after. The ambiance is casual but modern-esque. That might actually be a terrible description. Just go and see for yourself.
A twenty minute wait at 8:30 pm on a Monday? Okay, fine, I'll try it.
Our waitress seated us at a grill that is basically powered by a giant candle looking thing. Cool!
All the kalbi is delicious. The spicy pork is excellent. But the chicken basil is super disappointing, as are all of the vegetable options I tried.
If you like duck, the duck is also excellent!
Worlds WORST customer service.
We made a reservation, or thought we did, using their instructions on their voice mail - only to get there and find out they never checked their voice mail that day, so declined to seat us and wanted us to wait 2 hours without a res.
Seriously, I don't know about you, but even after speaking to a manager, we wouldn't wait 2 hours for anyone's food.
We ended up at Naniwa on Wells - where they have even better Japanese food and their customer service is off the charts terrific - just like their sushi.
We would NEVER go back to Gyu-Kaku. And neither should you!
Gyu-Kaku is a phenomena that many Americans have not previously been exposed to: Â a Japanese-style Korean barbecue. Â Â And they pull it off quite nicely, serving not just a delicious kalbi, but also some very realistic izakaya (Japanese -style pub) fare.
The prices are also very reasonable, especially on the happy hour menu.
*********WARNING*********BEWARE**********WARNING**Â*****
DO NOT ORDER THE SALMON!!! It comes in a foil pouch with a thick dark Miso sauce that bubbles and shoots out. Â How far does it shoot out? It burnt my face from a seat position. Â
When I asked the waiter how long to cook the salmon he said 2 minutes on each side. Â When we went to check to see if it was ready the salmon was raw and the sauce was bubbling and popped. Â Molten hot Miso Sauce landed just above my eyebrow and took off the first layer of skin. Â It took a few minutes to get the staffs attention and ask for burn cream. Â They did not have burn cream, I feel bad for the kitchen employees if anything ever goes wrong. Â I went downstairs to the main floor and asked for burn cream, but they did not have any. They did not even ask what happened. Â I would have asked to have the salmon removed from my bill, but I was more worried about my face being scarred. Â
To their credit, one of the guys from the restaurant caught up to me near the Dominick's down the block and handed me a small tube of Neosporin. Not that it is my intention, but if you are a lawyer how much is a scar on the face worth.
Stay away from the salmon, this should not be tried by amateurs, leave grilling fish to the pros. Â Even we would have nailed the timing and cooked it to perfection, it would have been just OK to good.
Besides the Face Burning incident  we had the new Lamb meat.  It was very "Lambie" or "gamie".  If that is your thing the flavor was fine, but each piece was very fatty. Not the good tasty fatty, but the spit-it out awww this is all fat, fatty.
All the beef selections were amazing as usually, please read every other review for more details. Â
I took off a star for the service. Â The waiter did not give a rundown of the cooking times. He practically just set down the meats, named the dishes in his hands and walked away. Now I know this is knit picking, but they did not refill the water, which would have been helpful to have ice or ice water available when their Molten Hot Miso sauce exploded on MY FACE!
I don't know what all the fuss is about. Certainly the food is good, but it's not outstanding. We had a few appetizers from the bar menu and some cocktails. The white peach cosmo was fruity, sweet and refreshing. The fried oysters, fried crab shumai, spicy tuna volcano, and edamame were all tasty. My least favorite was probably the steamed shrimp dumplings, they seemed a bit soggy.
Service was attentive for the most part. There's additional seating upstairs with a bar area. Good place for happy hour drinks and cute place for a casual date.
