Harlings is a Tuesday night treasure where you can sit back & enjoy stellar live jazz from a 16 piece big band for NO COVER! Â The atmosphere is rough around the edges, but drinks are cheap & strong. Service is a-ok & the crowd is diverse. Be careful on those treacherous stairs of death out back. Â Harlings is a divey diamond in the rough, especially on Tuesday nights. Â Check it out
Review Source:Tired of the sleek hardwood or techno thumping trendy spots? Â Look no further than Harling's Bar in Westport. Â A few things about Harling's:
1) Technically, it is in Southmoreland, but sits on the outermost edge of Westport so it still gets claimed as Westport.
2) The bathrooms are truly divey. Â Don't go if you don't have to.
3) It is in a very old building and there are no frills here. Â Bar, tables, stools, chairs, a couple of TVs, good music, and a ping pong table.
So now you are asking "What gives with the 4 stars?"
4 stars for social atmosphere and the staff.
The gang at Harling's are all really good people and really friendly. Â They make the experience. Â Often times watching the boys behind the bar is like watching brothers at play. Â Masters of drinkology and love to share creations. Â Now where Harling's truly soars is the atmosphere. Â You can walk in there knowing no one, and walk out with a new roster of friends. Â You will find some of everyone up at Harling's. Â College students, hipsters, neighborhood gang, old timers, etc. Â This mix truly works too. Â My Uncle Cole got me turned onto Harling's since he is a regular (he used to work at the now gone Metcalfe Key Service) and he made me one when I used to work downtown. Â Every time I go into Harling's, I leave with new friends and a warm happy feeling that is not the booze working.
If you find yourself free on a weeknight, stop in, have a drink, make a friend or ten. Â You may even catch my uncle or I there.
