Dive bar filled with blue hairs, locals, and the random guy who needs a drink at 11:30am. Haven't been at night, but I need to get my ass there after work. GREAT food. That's burgers, roast beef and ham, sides (oven roasted potatoes in au jus!), their roast pork loan & mashed potatoes....just excellent. Did I mention cheap? Like....fire sale priced? You won't leave hungry, the entire staff is super helpful/friendly/inviting, and they remembered me by name after my first order. You really can't get much better in terms of value for the price, no bullshit.
Review Source:Dive bar aficionados, here's one for you. I was invited here by a few friends that love this place... well one of our mutual friends actually bartends here. It meets all the dive bar standards...
The bartender is also, the manager, waiter, and cook.
The place is smokey.
Drinks are cheap.
Diverse crowd.
No credit cards (ATM on site)
I don't know what all they offer in the line of food, but my buddies ordered me a double burger. Their burgers are small but good... I felt bad that our friend that was bartending had to stop making drinks to cook the food. However, she had a plan for this. She announced to the crowd she was going to throw a burger on... if anyone else wanted something, now was their chance too. I think 3 or 4 burgers were made with mine. Greasy, deliciousness. I almost wished I ordered two.
I got drunk, had fun, and probably will be back.
If you're drunk enough to stick around to the end, I guess It's customary for the regulars to stack up the chairs at the end of the night. I thought that was hilarious... but when in Rome... I stacked up a table of them myself and was warmly thanked by the bartender. :)
The little griddle that could! Â Stand by for an awesome little cheeseburger with grilled onions and some tasty potatos (no fries). Â The steam table for lunch M-F usually has a terrific roast or ham and gorgeous looking veggies. Â My only complaint is the mustard and ketchup packets vice squeeze bottles, but that's nit-picking.
Not overly big burgers, so order 2! Â Oh so delicious!
There are 3-4 places in St Louis where the burger's taste outweighs it's size and this place is one of them! Â Yum!
Wish they were open for lunch on Saturday : (
The Hilltop Inn, is a casual retro style south side neighborhood favorite that has been around for over 50 years! Â At night, it is primarily a 20-something hangout, During the day it is the old-timers who gather for lunch.
They serve yummy homemade $2 burgers to order all day (until 11 PM). Â During the week, they serve homemade hot lunches (11-2PM) YUM!
Think soul food meets Italian. Â This food isn't going to take lbs. off of your arse, but it is definitely better than what Grandma used to make and perfect on a cold rainy day. Â
The Hilltop doesn't bother with happy hour specials because their drinks are already cheap! Â The night Bartenders are friendly and easy on the eyes and the customers are a hoot! Cash only! Â Be prepared for a smoky bar.
