Service was superrr patient with us and fulfilled my family's special dietary needs. For $12.00, I got a cup of chicken noodle soup, a good sized salad, stuffed shells entree that lasted me for two days, a coffee and cheesecake. Holy moly! I wish they had diners like these in California. Do you know what we get for $12? A burger. This place is phenomenal!
Review Source:(2.25 stars) Â We've become regulars at the Huck Finn again, having identified the dozen or so menu items which are truely stellar. Â The weekend special prime rib, Saturday special baked salmon, Sunday cream of turkey soup, everyday salad entrees and carrot cake (yum!) are our favorites. Â Avoid the vegetable side dishes; none of them are good. Â Still one of the top diners in, and around, Union and their service is almost always very good. Â We personally enjoy the '60's music in the background, as well.
Review Source:This is the only diner I've visited that I feel compelled to write a review about. Â I go out of my way to eat here because, simply, I get what I ask for. Even better, I get the little things I love that make a difference between a standard "diner" meal and a yummy treat. Â For example, I am a pain in the ass about English muffins and toast - I do not like an undercooked English muffin because it tastes like a lump of lukewarm paste. Huck Finn knows how to actually toast bread, which I love but can't seem to get anywhere else. Seriously.
On a recent visit, we opted for burgers instead of breakfast, and both Surly's bacon burger and my veggie burger were juicy, perfectly seasoned and came with some truly delightful pasta salad (dressed lightly in a real, creamy Italian dressing, not drenched in Hidden Valley). Onion rings are beer battered and weren't at all greasy.
Service is uniformly friendly and attentive. An added bonus, depending on your sense of humor: the decor hasn't been updated since 1982, so you may be amused or horrified. Â We love it.
a guy i work with randomly picked this place and did not believe in the power of yelp.
we were the only people, out of 20, who were under the age of 60. TOO many staffers and ours was sitting down at a table catching her breath many times. not sure why as service was spotty.
regardless the food was nothing to shout home about. its stuff you could find in a hospital and thats not being mean but an honest evaluation. a good hospital if that makes you feel better. nothing is horrible and all of it is generic and came off a sysco truck or etc.
JEANS: OK by far
ORDER: wait staff
Huck Finn (on the opposite side of town as my go-to diner, Mark Twain) doesnt have the same reputation as other diners located in Union County. I've been an avid Twain fan since I was an ankle-biter, but that's strictly because it's on my side of town.
I have been to Huck a handful of times, with no issues with food or service. I know it's definitely the LATEST diner open in Union, as Twain works what seems to be doctor's hours for a diner...
I don't really have much more to say though --- food's always been good, service ok. Just an OK experience...nothing that stood out to me.
I've had a few meals at Huck Finn but only one in the last 5 years. Â They cater to an ethnically Jewish crowd as is evidenced by their menu. This works for me. I like the brisket sandwich with a potato pancake and red cabbage. Â It was served with au jus which was a nice touch. I'll probably go back and I won't wait 5 years until my next visit.
Review Source:Went there for breakfast, it was quite empty, which was a bad sign. Â Ordered a simple mushroom omelet. Â I guess I forgot to mention cheese because there wasn't any in this omelet. Â The eggs were cooked way too high a temp and were rubbery with some uncooked egg in the middle. Â The home fries were a slab of chopped browned potatoes. Â Even the toast was lousy. Â Maybe the only reason to go here as the previous reviewer said, is because they are open late. Â Don't go for the food.
