We went here after reading reviews here. Â It was more of an industrial area than I expected, but really good food. Â The menu is written in chalk on cute items. Â I had the buffalo Reuben and my friend had the red pepper, pesto, mozzarella sandwich. Â They were both delicious. Â Cute small cafe.
Review Source:Love local businesses, and friendly staff
This place is adorable, the menu is pretty substantial without being overwhelming and having multiple items i'm interested in eating and trying.
I've had a breakfast burrito - and was surprised at the price - nearly $7 for something they put in the microwave... Â made me sad.
But their lunch - mmmm! I went with the Reuben, buffalo Reuben - now where are you going to find that on a menu? Â It was tasty, very lean, not chewy!
Not a ton of seating, but enough that we found a table at 12:30 on a winter friday!
I intend to work my way thru the rest of the menu, including the meatball and the italian!
I did try and italian soda which was very tasty, but i think it contained fake sugar, which as i age, sends my stomach into nasty heartburn land... Â So i wont be trying any of the other flavors!
Cheers, and i'll meet you there for lunch soon!
I'm so glad places like Hutch and Spoon are popping up in my neighborhood!  I just discovered it and have been here a couple times - once for breakfast and once for a lunch meeting.  The breakfast burrito was delicious and the meatloaf sandwich was amazing!  I would put it in the top 5 sandwiches I've ever had.  I also enjoyed once of their homemade sodas.  The place is a little small, and it might take a little while to get your food but worth the wait!  Overall though  - worth a trip, and REALLY awesome that places like this are opening up in Five Points!
Review Source:I get the same thing every time. Â I should branch out, but it's so yummy. Â I was disappointed at first when I asked if they had a gluten free bread option and the only choice was a really thin flatbread (it's a gf tortilla), but I got the egg and feta sandwich on it anyway. It was so yummy. Â It honestly looks like the most boring sandwich ever, but it's very tasty. I keep meaning to get a nutella and banana sandwich but I can't seem to give up the egg and feta one. Â The house made sodas are nice too. Â It can tend to be a tad warm in here, so if you're all bundled up for winter, you may want to have on a layer or two you can remove so you don't overheat while eating.
Review Source:This little place is awesome! If you're not in the mood for Crema, I suggest you hop down the street to this little gem. Â The sandwiches are great (meatballs!!!) and their housemade sodas are the best for a hot day! I have tried most of them and I definitely liked the cucumber soda the best. The service is a little slower and the place is tiny but it's a great place to have an intimate lunch that is both tasty and refreshing.
Review Source:So. Â So. Â Tiny. Â Seriously, I could put this place in my pocket and carry it around with me - which wouldn't be a half bad idea, because it is very tasty. Â The menu is limited so picky eaters may not fall in love with it but it is well worth checking out if you are up in the Curtis Park/RiNo 'hood and have a hankering for a bite.
I had a panini with chicken pesto and feta - gah! Â So very, very delicious. Â They also have house-made sodas with crazy interesting flavors like mango-jasmine, black currant, and pineapple-ginger. Â For some silly reason, I didn't try and of them. Â I'll report back after I do. Â
I don't understand how they'll be able to turn enough tables to make any money, but I hope they stick around - really tasty and worth a return visit, as the menu changes.
So stoked to have this spot in our neighborhood, it's one of the few places for a bite to eat in Curtis Park/Rino. The space is small, but really lovely and interestingly decorated. The smallish menu of salads, sandwiches, and some breakfast items, including coffee, feature simple delicious flavor combinations. And the Italian sodas, baked goods, wine and beer make it a great spot for a relaxing afternoon meal. I've never had a bad experience here.
The couple of guys that work here are very sweet, always asking how you're doing, wishing you a good afternoon and when it's quiet will strike up a conversation if you desire. The service isn't lightening speed, but the food is quality and made with care which outweighs the few minutes you'll wait for your sandwich or coffee. Hutch and Spoon is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood and worth a special stop if you don't live nearby. Try the meatloaf sandwich if it's around, or at breakfast the Feta Egg Sandwich is rich and hearty despite at first appearing small.
French Onion Soup Sandwich: OMG YUM. And vegetarian, to boot.
This place is tiny and simple in every respect. Multiple chalkboards hanging up comprise the menu, which includes plenty of vegetarian options as well as sodas made in house. (I have only tried the cucumber, and it was too sweet for me to finish the whole thing, but it was tasty.) Definitely not a good option for a large group, but perfect for lunch à deux. Service is fast and friendly.
My only gripe is the hours. I've probably tried to pop in three times when they've been closed (hello, Sunday after a yoga class at the studio next door).
Thrilled to find this place. The coffee and breakfast burrito we split for lunch were both delicious. The owner and his assistant/helper/sidekick were delightful, and the Star of David on my coffee saucer inside of which bore the initials "BJ," left me with a sophomoric smile all day!!

I lived a block away and only discovered Hutch & Spoon a month before I moved. Â Their chili is amazing and everyone has always been so nice! Â They even helped out and gave me some boxes for the move!!
Even though I live further away now, I'm making the trek back for a latte and some chili!
Cute and cozy describe this place well. Not sure if we would've stayed had we not found a table.
The menu is written on the wall and there's lots to select from. I went with the chicken pesto sandwich and it was very good. I enjoyed the small salad it came with too. Most items were $8-10.
I wouldn't go here if you're in a rush. Our meal of 2 sandwiches took at least 15 minutes to come out.
We were in the area for the Carnage on Larimer car show and stopped in here for a quick lunch. Â I loved the atmosphere, the food choices were *amazing* and the staff uber-friendly!!
My husband had a super moist meatloaf sandwich and I had the roasted red pepper and mozzarella that was mouth-watering. Â Both came with a small salad on the side with an amazing vinegarette dressing. Â
I love when we stumble upon a small, local place as charming as the Hutch & Spoon. Â I wish I had a place like this near our home, it would be a very frequent stop for us.
Eateries like Hutch & Spoon are rare no matter what city you live in. For Denver though, they are undiscovered gems or diamonds in the rough. That exceptionally rare breed of cafe that is all but unheard of in Denver. If not for anything else, the aesthetic of Hutch is something that would elevate just about any other cafe or restaurant. It's shimmeringly clean with giant windows that fill the whole place with a brilliant sunlight. There is so much natural light we wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have any other lights. If it's a cloudy day maybe they light candles or hand everyone who walks in a headlamp. Really, who knows?! What we do know is these homemade sodas they do are out of this fucking world.
While the food we've had has been good, it wasn't awe inspiring. They also have wine and sparkling concoctions but those damn sodas. We end up driving the whole way across town through that Broadway/Lincoln/Park Ave. bullshit just to try a new flavor at least twice a week. Our favorite so far? Cucumber. Then again we could eat a cucumber just about every second of every day while wearing a few slices on our eyes and smothering cucumber lotion all over our bodies. So maybe for the more normal soda drinkers the peach spice would be a nice choice. Either way, Hutch & Spoon might be in the middle of nowhere -- unless of course you're reading this in 2015 and all of Five Points has been completely gentrified -- but it is one of the few cafes we're genuinely floored by in this fair city.
2.5
Honestly I was disappointed. I'm happy to drive to a random neighborhood for some delicious brunch, but when I'm greeted with the slowest service of all time, and the guy in charge says, "sorry we're still waking up" at 10:30 on a Saturday... it's questionable at best.
The menu is small (which is fine) so long as everything on that small menu is good...and available (which it wasn't). I was there with a few friends so we sampled it all. Although they received a lot of hype I thought the burritos were dry and a little lacking in flavor at best, the "fruit plate" was a sliced banana with a few grapes (!), Â and yes the nutella/banana sandwich was tasty- no surprise(but they ran out of bread for one of us). Even the coffee tasted rough...
The only glimmer of hope was the home made sodas which were delicious...but that's not enough to run your business on.
It was easily food I could have made at home, but maybe not even as good as I would have made it. Too bad!
What an awesome little find! Sir Nicholas and I stopped by here over the weekend for a quick breakfast and it was wonderful. First of all the place is fairly small - I would not recommend going with a group larger than 3 otherwise seating could be tricky at best. It's a pretty narrow space that's set up more like a cafe and less like a restaurant - you order from the counter and then find a table and wait for your food.
The menu is pretty small and simple, but that doesn't make it any less delicious. There are just a handful of options for breakfast and lunch, things like breakfast burritos or egg sandwiches, hummus plates or deli sandwiches. They are all reasonably priced and the servings are too big. For example an egg and feta breakfast sandwich only cost $4, but it's not quite as big as a sandwich made with two slices of bread.
The coffee is also the delicious and as many folks have already mentioned the homemade soda options are lovely. Throw free Wi-Fi and very friendly workers into the mix and I think I've found another favorite spot in the city!
I started working right around the corner from here and let me tell you I was so excited to see a place like this so close!!!!
You walk in and it is small and quaint but really unique. Has its own style that is for sure.
I quickly became a regular are the staff there started knowing my name and my order, Hummus plate and a Vanilla passion fruit soda!! Wow yum. The hummus is smooth and just the right amount of garlic served with cucumbers and olives and crisp bread and a side of olive dressing (I always get extra). It is a very filling light lunch or a snack to share. The custom sodas they have are all really good, the vanilla passion fruit is my fav, but the others are just as good.
They have a few items on the menu that rotate on a seasonal basis and I try to give them are try and have never once been disappointed.
The only semi negative thing I can say is that when they are busy "lunch rush" the service can be kinda slow. So I just learned if I was in a crunch for time to call and place a to-go order over the phone.
Overall wonderful place!! Wish I lived close by so I could eat lunch and dinner here, I hear they do happy hour?
The atmosphere more than anything stands out here. And the house made sodas - AWESOME!. We tried grapefruit - I should have got two of those instead of a coffee- sadly disappointing. The service was great and the breakfast burrito as well.
Being such a fan of sweets, the one thing I would recommend is adding some fresh baked sweets to the list.
This little restaurant is so cute, it ought to be illegal.
We stopped in here for some breakfast, post sewer scoping at the new house and en route to the Garden and Home show. Â Bear in mind that we haven't moved up north yet, still live in the land of plentiful bars and restaurants, and therefore don't yet have a biased view towards the much smaller quantity of places in our new neighborhood.
That said, I'm really looking forward to being near this place!
We ordered breakfast sandwiches and although small, they're only $4 and don't leave you overly full.
The standout for me is their extensive homemade soda offerings. Â Out of curiousity, I went for peach spice. Â Super bubbly, with a very light and fresh peachy flavor. Â Just a hint of sweetness. Â I can't wait to puruse all of their offerings (mango jasmine has my name on it, in particular). Â You can even get them made into bellinis and the like if you're in the mood for an adult drink. Â They also have a nice list of wine and local beers which would make this place a good weekend afternoon hang.
Hutch and Spoon. Â I'll take it.
I really give it 2.5 stars and rounded up to 3 because of the charm it has. Â However, I came here to try the breakfast burrito and well it was OK. Â The whole thing is that they do not make the burritos here. Â They apparently buy them from somewhere else and just heat them up. Â Very disappointing. Â That being said I guess it was ok except that the tortilla was a big soggy.
It has a great ambiance in there like a small coffee shop.  It is very small with  less than 10 tables (which is what added to the charm).
I like these small out of the way places but not sure I will rush back for breakfast. Â Some of the sandwich's looked good that went by to other tables.
Never would have found this place out in Five Points had my wife not told me about it. Â I thought it was more restaurant-y but it's a little cafe with a frequently changing menu. Â I found the pricing a little odd. Â I ordered the egg and feta sandwich, and out came a very small sandwich, basically half a sandwich cut in half again. Â Like little sandwiches you might eat at tea, for $4. Â They were delicious, but definitely not satisfying so I ordered another one and then I was full. Â So, figure $8 for a filling and tasty egg sandwich. Â Not terrible, but not cheap. Â
Enjoyed the homemade cucumber soda, it was very refreshing. Â I might return to try some other menu items, but I might have a snack at home first...
"Did you mean Touch and Spoon?"
This is what my friend's GPS said when he picked me up and decided that instead of my saying "Its on 30th and Lawrence", he has to use his fancy new phone GPS. Anyway, I still am ROFL about that.
To note, Hutch and Spoon is a cafe -a small, cute, and quaint one at that- certainly good for a meeting of a party of 1-3 I would say.
I like the area- it was really nice on Saturday and its in an up and coming area- very clean inside and such, LOVE the handwritten menus boards- although it takes a minute of two to read everything- they certainly have a eclectic array of items.
I got a breakfast sandwich and my friend the breakfast burrito. The burrito was a good size, delicious and apparently filling because my friend let me have a bit after I had my sandwich, which, I might add seemed soooo tiny! It was good- but tiiiiiiiny. It was like, bite bite....done. Oh well.
We each got a house-made soda- I got Pineapple-Ginger (AMAZING), and my friend a Cucumber (mmmmmm). Definitely a must.
Overall, good place and would recommend.....although...I'm curious what and where the 'Touch and Spoon' is....
The ONLY reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because they aren't open on Sunday's... I love it so much but I only get Sunday and Mondays off:(
The granola is awesome...either milk or yogurt will do it justice.
The egg sammies are also amazing and I love that they come nicely toasted out of the oven and there isn't a microwave in the place. Everything is made from scratch, and you can taste the love!
Oh, and the music is always kicking with some new or underground band! I cant get enough.
What a great little place! All hidden away in Five Points with all of it's warmth and charm. and of course, all of it's deliciousness. Â Darn, I wish I was closer! Â What a neighborhood gem!
They are servin up sammies and salads and soups full of love here. Â I had the french onion sandwich and my husband had the meatloaf sandwich. Â We shared soup and homemade soda. Â Honestly, you really can taste the love. Â I haven't had food like that for some time. Â The home made sodas were tha bomb, awesome flavors such as cucumber and pineapple ginger. Â All sorts of yummy desserts filled the counter tops like cookies, breads, and cakes. Â I wish I would have had room, I never have room!
I want to go back on a cold snowy day, which I have a feeling will be very soon!
Fun little place in the middle of well....not really anything.
Had lunch with my friend and he recommended it from all of the good yelp reviews. 1 start for having the menu online (I was ready to order once we got there) and 1 for being out of the way (lots of easy parking)
So we ordered and it's small, but cozy. I enjoyed the meatloaf sandwich. REALLY cheesy...right up my alley!
I'll totally be back here. Really reasonable and not a far drive from downtown at all.
I finally made it to Hutch & Spoon, and I loved it. In the middle of nowhere and the middle of everywhere you'll want to be, it always seemed just a bit too far out of the way. Yesterday I got on the scoot and rode over to meet a friend for lunch - a quick ride without the downtown congestion, it's close than you'd think!
I love the look of this small breakfast and lunch spot. Small, clean and comfortable - the kind of place you'd want to sit and sip on a latte (or pineapple ginger soda) for hours. That soda is exactly what I had - one of many concoctions that fought for my attention. The food was good too - I had a tasty meatloaf and cheddar grilled sandwich with a small side salad. The portions aren't big, but neither is the price. It's all simple and good, and I'll be heading back soon!
A cute little place, with a tiny menu, a great cup of coffee, and a warm staff. Â My honey and I are moving into a gorgeous loft in the neighborhood and stopped by for a yummy brunch on Saturday morning.
The staff obviously cares about every detail. Â We love that it's super close because we intend to be here at least twice a week. Â I love the super simple decor and that it's done with style, as is the menu.
I live in the neighborhood, and it makes me happy to see new businesses opening up. This place is precious, very comfortable. The veggie breakfast wrap is divine.
My only quibble are the hours. I work 7-4, so can't make it during the week, and have kung fu after 12 on Saturdays. The only time to enjoy the place is Saturday morning, but who wants to get up that early? I hope they  expand their hours soon.
I work in the neighborhood and this is one of our office's favorite place's to eat. Â
The chicken/feta sandwich at lunch is addicting. Â It is so good if I even think about it I have to have one. Â I tell the guy who runs it that they must put crack in the bread because it's so freaking good.
The BF and I went in for breakfast one morning and I ordered the egg/feta sandwich.  When I first saw it I was a little disappointed... it was only half a sandwich and I thought that I was still going to be hungry when I finished.  However, I underestimated  what a huge portion of eggs was tucked inside that sandwich and I was stuffed by the time I was finished.  It is now another thing I crave all the time.  I try to make it at home, but it's just not the same (must be the crack in the bread).  The BF (as always) got the breakfast burrito, which he enjoyed. Â
I would give this place five stars except one of the boys that works there is a total douche-bag, and I think it's a little on the price-y side for the neighborhood.
The lovely Claire S. invited me to join her here for lunch, and I'm so glad I accepted. Â Not just because Claire rocks, but because Hutch & Spoon is charming and delicious.
It was a cold, snowy day, so I ordered a cup of Novo coffee (my favorite). Â for lunch, I had the tuna & eggplant caponata sandwich. Â It was an interesting and flavorful mix of a Nicoise and caponata, with olives and capers.
This is a cozy place with character; I could hang out here all day. Â I can't wait to return to try more menu items, like the house-made sodas and the french onion sandwich.
Cool little hip joint in the "back pocket" of Denver...
Five Points is turning out some rare gems, including Hutch & Spoon. Â
10 seats. Â That's it! Â A compact kitchen nearly the size of a hotel room closet. Â A dozen menu items written on an antique chalk board - brunch items, sandwiches, paninis and homemade soup. Â Warm and inviting, filled with the wafting aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Â Home-baked goods, including scones, muffins and coffee cake make a nice complement morning... noon... anytime!
Picture this: Â Imagine if your grandmother opened a tiny little cafe, and invited over some of your trendiest friends from the 'hood. Â That's it! Â That's Hutch & Spoon. Â Got a day off during the week and you want try something new for lunch? Â Give Hutch & Spoon a stir... Â You'll be pleasantly surprised!
I love this place. The people  are friendly and counter-culture-but-not-snobby. They serve Novo coffee and it's gooooooooood. The food is delicious and artistically prepared.
H&S uses fresh, local ingredients and their prices are a steal for such high quality fare. I had a curried chicken salad sandwich on ciabatta a few weeks ago. It was crisp and savory, even mood-altering! (With tip it came in somewhere under $10.) Today I stopped in for a snack and had one of their breakfast bars, featuring oatmeal, various nuts and dried fruit, and lots a coconut; it was filling, crunchy, and chewy.
I can't wait to try more stuff on the menu!
Cafe Delivers Local in a Hutch & on a Spoon
I dare you to find a cafe in Denver that delivers its local promise in a less pretentious and more authentic way than Hutch & Spoon. If this place doesn't epitomize the neighborhood cafe, I'm not sure what does.
My husband, friend and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon to fuel up for some house hunting in Curtis Park/Five Points. H&S's limited menu (which I appreciate) offered something for all of us. I ordered the special of the day, a French onion sandwich. It was a perfect gooey concoction of nothing more than caramelized onions, fresh gruyère and a little fancy mayo. Now that's what I call a grilled cheese. And it was served with some simple greens tossed in a light dressing. My husband ordered the breakfast sandwich with sausage and cheddar and he had only one complaint -- where's the egg? My friend ordered the ham and cheese sandwich. I haven't eaten pork for 15 years and it had my mouth watering.
We also all ordered espresso drinks, which arrived in actual glasses. That's right. The kind that can be washed and reused. Thank you Hutch & Spoon. Although, I took a peek at their to-go cups and I think they were compostable.
One reason this place didn't get five stars -- Â the service. Â You're local, so please say hello when I walk up to the counter and don't act annoyed that I don't know what I want as soon as I cross the threshold. You're new to the neighborhood and so am I. And there's no one in line behind me. So, how about a helpful suggestion? Perhaps tell me what you like on the menu. Â
Maybe the guy behind the counter was having a bad day, so don't let this keep you from popping in this quaint joint; it won't keep me from giving it another go.
I should give this place 5 stars because for what it is, I'm sure it's as good as it gets.
It's a tiny, delightful place with a tiny, delightful menu.
I had a cup of soup, a salad and a sandwich. Â The split pea soup with bacon was outstanding, the pear, goat cheese and candied pecan salad was excellent, and the grilled cheese with pear chutney on sourdough was delicious.
You order at the counter and then the staff brings you your drinks, silverware and meal. Â I felt very well taken care of.
So, for what it is, the atmosphere, service and food are all top-notch.
Hutch and Spoon is a new little place in my neighborhood- very cute, it reminded me of retro-modern meeting my grandmother's kitchen! Â The interior is a cool tile floor with minimalist decor. Â I love the menu display, which is handwritten on 6 small chalkboards that have individual wood frames.
The menu itself is not enormous, but we tried the grilled cheese with peach chutney, the hummus platter, an iced mocha and a watermelon lemonade. Â Everything was tasty- the hummus platter came with babaganoush and traditional hummus and a nice toasted bread. Â I kind of expected some veggies, but the manager told me that one of their coolers went out over the weekend and most everything was tossed. Â The grilled cheese was amazing- they put the chutney right in the sandwich and it was really unique- though a little small for the price. Â I went home raving about the watermelon lemonade, which was made with fresh watermelon juice; what a refreshing summer treat!
Overall, I enjoyed Hutch, and I hope that they bring in some more business because I've seen a lot of these little places in NoDo/5 Points come and go... they've done a spectacular job with the old building it's in, so go check it out for coffee, lunch or a treat!
