I'm giving this place two stars for the decor. It's a really cool space.
Some friends told me about this place so I went with them to check it out. I thought it sounded like a really cool concept.
It was a Saturday night so it was fairly busy as you'd expect. I walked up to the bar to get a drink. There was a male bartender near me who I expected would wait on me when he finished with the drinks he was making. When it was my turn he walked past me to the end of the bar to wait on a group of women who had walked up after me. I thought, "Okay fine. I'll wait for one of the other bartenders."
After five more minutes or so one of the female bartenders finally came over to take my order. I ordered a vodka cranberry. While she made my drink she made a few others. No biggie. That's the sign of an efficient bartender.
As I watched her pour my drink it looked like she accidentally started pouring something extra in my drink. I thought, "She'll remake it." She didn't. As she handed it to me and as I paid she said, " I accidentally splashed some beer in your drink. If you want me to remake it I will." I thought it was cool of her to say that.
I took a sip of the drink to taste it and it was awful. I looked up to ask her to remake it but she was long gone. I had already been at the bar for 10 minutes or so and was tired of waiting to get a drink so I just walked away and sipped my not-so-tasty drink.
I won't be going back.
A perfect fixture among the businesses that populate the predominately warehouse neighborhood of five points - Mile High Spirits is literally a warehouse-turned-distillery bar. I'm talking a mile high ceiling and no floor plan. And it's amazing.
It's literally a huge room with over stimulation, like a pool table to one side of you and a cluster if cool couches and chairs on the other.
Knowing this was a distillery that houses some stellar local spirits - I made my way straight to the bar in the back. I was suddenly stricken with conflict as I perished the creative elixirs, like cucumber or pepperoncini vodka. So, naturally, I ordered the first one (cucumber infused with soda) and downed real fast so I could squeeze in a Bloody Mary mixed with their house pepperoncini vodka. It was deliciously spicy. I left happy, and probably a little tipsy. They have an adjacent patio that I will definitely have to check out during my next vodka tasting adventure.
Mile High Spirits is awesome. Super grateful to my colleague and friend Frances G for introducing me to the place on my first night in Denver! This is a distillery that produces a line of vodka, bourbon, gin and rum. A wall separates the distillery from a really cool bar area with relaxed seating and a pool table. There is a large outdoor area as well. On my second visit on a Tuesday there was a very competitive corn hole tournament going down.
The thing that makes the drinks awesome at this spot is that they have tons of infused spirits. There were five or six vodka infusions, a couple bourbon and a rum during my visits. They do a great Moscow Mule which you can get with any of their spirits. I opted for the black cherry bourbon and was instantly hooked. They also make an awesome bloody Mary which was made even better with pickle- pepperoncini-infused vodka. It was garnished with two different stuffed olives, a pepperoncini and a cornichon. Fantastic.
Happy hour starts at 5pm and you can take a dollar off any drink. There was no shortage of people hanging at this bar on a Friday night or a Tuesday night. I only wish I could have brought some of that delicious infused booze home with me. A must-visit while in Denver.
