I stopped by on accident and boy I'm glad I did.  This place is delicious!  I mean if you are craving a good burger and fries b/c that's pretty much all they have.  I'm the condiment queen and they have a condiment bar that will knock your socks off.  I just got a little cheeseburger and some fries, it was awesome!

Place does get busy and parking is alittle tight, as it seems w/ most establishments on Federal.

Burgers and shakes are good. A good alternative to the corporate fast burger food chains out there. Will definitely go again when down that way.

Good local burger place. Their burger patties are a special blend, and they are always fresh. Sometimes your burger can be a bit greasy (otherwise it would be 4-stars), but overall, I would recommend this place. It's a must-try for anyone living in the area, and maybe even visitors.

I've been here many times over the years and I've come to realize that the novelty far outweighs the meal. I came here tonight at the urging of friends who had never been and my burger was absolutely raw. I ate the replacement and have been sick for hours- NEVER AGAIN.

Burger was very good. Milkshake was awesome. Nothing fancy about this place, just good food. Would recommend trying it out.

We are planning a visit back to the place where my husband and I were bother reared for 45 plus years and the 1st place to visit on our list is Jack's Hamburgers OMG I have been gone for 13 years and I still crave their burgers, there is no other place like them and I think the Cypress one is better that the Federal Hwy one but I could be prejudice since I grew up on the Cypress one. If you don't like Jack's then you are not a true Burger connoisseur no one does them better!!!!

Burger comes plain and everything is an extra charge, even lettuce and tomato. The beef didn't taste like it had any seasoning at all. For a place that specializes in burgers i was disappointed .

Great hamburger, did I say great hamburger! Great stop for a quick bite. Service was friendly and quick. Pricing was inline with the other burger joints.

It looked nice from the street and I had to check it out because I love burgers, who doesn't? They didn't seem very friendly in fact treated me like a boogie man, that put me off, but still had to try the Jacks Burger.
The burger is large and comes plain, which is great because you can add what you want... Down side it's all at an extra charge, that's right even the lettuce and tomato. I had the fries too.
Why the one star? Non friendly service and the food had absolutely zero flavor.
Would I try it again? No thanks

Homey and easy. Delightful in that secretive kind of way - I don't want anyone knowing I heart this place - it's not flashy, fancy, or trendy - it's just simple burgers done right.

Id give it 3 stars, but this place is way over-rated. Burgers are pretty good, but not great, fries are just average.

Very good hand man burger. Fast, fresh much better then any fast food. Priced very good. Could use little more seasoning in burgers. Just moderate salt and pepper would even help. Will be back.

Probably one of my favorite restaurants simple but perfect.  Great burgers but only complaint would be that the fries are just average but definitely still edible haha.

If you like your basic, down-n-dirty greasy cheeseburger, you have found Mecca. Jacks uses fresh beef, wood paneling straight out of your grandpa's 1970s garage-conversion living room, and a couple of no-nonsense, un-exotic condiment stations.

Are there better burger joints in the naked city? A few.  There is something in its fresh beef, and its post-diner, pre-hipster time warp that appeals when the raw Amurican (spelled correctly) carnivore in you comes out.

The fries aren't much to write home about, but if you like milkshakes, they have preserved the arcane art of whipping ice cream and milk into a Weight Watchers-defiant bit of heaven better than most.

If you like BURGERS this is the place to go to get one that tastes like a burger should, fresh and delicious.

Can get very crowded very fast.

This is a place you come for the food and not for the looks...

    Quick service

    Bring your appetite.

Juicy and sloppy burgers. Lots of condiments to choose from a self-serve table. Very clean.  Burgers come "naked" with a Zip-loc baggy of iceberg lettuce and a slice of tomato.  Fries were decent:  on the limp side, very little salt, but decent.  Only real negative is the price:  You purchase the burger (bun and hamburger) for one price, then any additional items (i.e., lettuce, tomato, bacon, etc.) are charged separately.  For two, our burgers and fries came out to over $20!  (We're talking fast-food here, not wait-service....)  Overall, decent; nothing special, in my opin.

This place rocks!  You wont find a better burger in South Florida!  The baseball Ice and delicious root beer or milkshakes are simply divine.  I cannot stop myself when I drive by the place it's an instant urge to pull in and order up.  Never fails you, consistently great.

Follow the yellow brick road or sign to Jack's. You can eat at one of the big three burger chains anytime. When in Rome or in this case, Fort Laurderdale, it's best to do as the natives do, and chow on a cow here. This place is a favorite for burger bound locals and travelers in the know. Jack's has been here for decades and based upon the burgers, will likely be here till the cows come home. You will be moooved by the juicy burger that's griddle fried to order. My advice to moo fans is: remember to graze wisely and if your going to eat a food group that's not particularly great for you, it's best to enjoy it when you do. Jack's may not have the extensive selection of the big burger chains but does have great burgers, fries, shakes and hot dogs.

This place is a legend.  From grill to architectural design.

It's a good ol' fashioned greasy burger spot.  A burger or dog as if you took it right off the family bbq grill.  The condiments bar can construct a burger combination to suit your best burger cravings.  And...mmmm...those fresh cut fries.

If you sit and watch they have this process down to a science.  Pre-portioned lettuce/tomato & all.  Its a well oiled machine that is good for belly filling good times.  It's a must stop if your yelp filter is: $,  LEGENDARY LOCAL BURGER JOINT

I have to say it...this or five guys...I would choose this every time! No Contest.

Fast & Friendly. Burgers are great! Good crowd of people coming and going. Staff was friendly and polite. The decor is kind of bland, but it's a burger joint, not a sit down dinner and drinks place. A little over priced in my opinion, but alls good.

Jack's is a neighborhood legend, a favorite for the locals to get a quick burger and a general hang out. There isn't much that can be said for the décor or the Spartan, rather uncomfortable school cafeteria type of seating but there is a lot that can be said for their burger. They're made of fresh meat, ground up on the premises daily, without any left over frozen junk. Every burger I've had has been done precisely the way I've ordered it, which is rare, and I enjoy being able to add my own relish, ketchup, mustard, onions, pickles or other condiments in exactly the proportion I like from his condiment bar.

It's fast food, so the service is quick. You just go to the counter, place your order, are handed a receipt with a number and wait for your number to be called out. For drinks, you get your cup filled but there is no self service fountain for refills. The service persons generally appear to be high school types, but polite, friendly and efficient about what they are doing.

When I need a quick burger, Jack's either on Federal or the one located on South Cypress in Pompano, is where I always go. But, of the two, I like the one on South Cypress better as it has more of that 1950's dinner type of atmosphere about it.

I gave Jack's a 5 Star rating because they deserve it.

They have been serving juicy hamburgers perfectly cooked in this same location for about 30 years.

The fries are crispy and thin. They offer free refills on sodas and the milkshakes are great.

Five guys and In-n-Out can't match this place for burgers.

Unfortunately, they don't take American Express cards.

I guess this place has been around for quite some time.  Kudos for their longevity.  However, given the accolades here on Yelp, and perhaps given the vibe of "it's a great place that's been around forever," I was expecting much more than what was experienced.

I was in this area today around lunch time and, seeing that I had this place bookmarked, figured I might as well scratch one off the bookmark list.  Thus, Jack's.

When I arrived, the place was slammed.  Good sign, right?  I suppose.  Find parking and, despite how busy it is, I was able to place my order straight away...only one person in front of me and they were finished quickly.

As I step to the right to join the pool of those waiting for their orders, I can't help but notice an assembly line of drinks and milkshakes just sitting there and, as orders were coming out of the kitchen, the respective drinks would then join the order.  I suppose this is an ok "system" when it comes to beverages, but when it comes to milkshakes (which I ordered given the favorable comments I'd seen and since I do not drink soft drinks), having a milkshake sit around isn't the greatest of ideas.  Even moreso when my order was about 8 numbers away from the numbers being called out.  True enough, when I finally got my order, the staff member reached for the pool of sitting milkshakes, grabbed one, and gave it to me.  It did have somewhat of a milkish-shakish consistency, but was only marginally a step up from chocolate milk.

The food?  I had the "Big Jack" or whatever the 1/2lb'er is called.  It was a protein, carb and fat slab, with nothing along the lines of lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles,  etc. to get in the way.  Actually, pickles and onions are available at the condiment station (as are ketchup and mustard, relish, mayo, etc.), but if you want sliced tomato and/or lettuce you have to ask for it and pay extra for it.  I guess this works for them, but what I was left with was a bun and a slab of meat.

The burger was tasty and was not soaking in fat.  Somewhat juicy I suppose, but it was far thinner than I had imagined/expected and thinner than it appeared in at least one of the photos on here.  Nonetheless, it wasn't bad.

The french fries were fresh, hot and pretty good.  I'm not a big french fry eater, and I didn't eat this basket in its entirety, but they were tasty.  Incidentally, my fries did not appear to have any salt on them so, much like any manner of topping for your burger, you have to salt your own fries.  Since most fries tend to be swimming in salt, this was not a bad thing in my eyes and I had no difficulty grabbing one of the salt shakers and just sprinkling a little on top.  I just mention it FYI.

The decor of this place is, I imagine, much unchanged from its heyday.  That's fine in my book.  It's got a truly old-school kind of feel to it, much like the kind of feel you get if you go into, for instance, Arbetter's.  It's a, "yep...we've been here since the Eisenhower Administration and we ain't changing a damn thing" king of feel which, as I said, is fine.

At the time I went, it seemed to draw a mixed crowd of everything from business folks, to tourists, to construction guys, LEOs, and, locals in general.  Another good thing.

All in all, in fairness, this place is probably more along the lines of three and a half stars more than it is simply three.  However, I can't say "I'm a fan," nor can I say that I will continually make it a point to go to this place (particularly given how far north it is for me).  But, as this three star rating reads, it is indeed "A-OK."

I am prolly a bit harsh on this one coming from New York City but there was nothing special about the food here. The place itself was charming and had some history so I was a bit disappointed.

I ordered the original cheese burger and cheese fries and my boyfriend ordered the larger burger and chili fries. I appreciate that everything is made to order...most burger joints have caught on to that concept by now. I was surprised however to how long we waited for our food to come out.

Jack gives you a burger and a bun.

    Everything else is extra

I have never been to a burger joint that charged you extra for lettuce and tomato.

    Bacon is .85 cents.....damn!

You are welcome to "community" pickles, diced onion, jalapeno, etc. though

Cheese fries consist of a piece or two of while cheese melted in a microwave nuked kind of way.

The chili is meat that has no "good chili" flavor....putting in ketchup would be a cheap fix

I ordered my burger with grilled onion which would have been really good except my burger was so greasy it was almost inedible. The bottom of the bun was almost completely soggy.

Last but not least. They do not have grilled mushrooms on the menu. This is a personal gripe from me because I think all burger joints should have this topping. I wish this place could do better.

I can't say much for the odd shape of the place and it's lack of decor, but day-um, is it DEE LISH US.  I adore these burgers and often drive up from Miami for one.  They offer my favorite condiments too - horseradish sauce, mustard, onions and jalapenos (yeah, need some Listerine after).  They're all cooked well-done, but even as a medium rare fan I love these burgers.  The shakes are amazing as well; they taste like there is syrup in them ::shivers with delight::  I've tried the hot dogs too and they're ok by me.
...Hmmm, maybe I'll take a drive up there tonight...

I've been going to Jack's Old Fashioned Hamburger House for more years than I want to admit. Are there better burgers out there? You bet. But Jack's is in a kind of time warp; somewhere between the '70's and '90's, which makes it unique in a very special way. The beef is ground fresh daily and each order cooked as it's placed.

Stand in line at the counter for a few minutes and place your order. The complete menu is posted on the wall just in front of you. They have a few sizes of hamburgers and cheeseburgers as well as some grilled sandwiches, hot dogs, french fries, etc. While you are waiting for your custom cooked order, choose a seat and start picking out the condiments you want to accompany your meal. Take a few throwaway cups for ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles, relish, onions, jalepenos, etc.

The food at Jack's is consistantly good. It's a nice place to go where you can take a friend and get a quick burger and fries. My usual order consists of a 1/3 pound hamburger and the grilled smoked ham with double cheese sandwich with an order of fries. I add some pickles and mustard to the smoked ham and it is dee-lishus!

I can't find a website for Jack's (I guess they really are still in the '70's?) but everyone from Fort lauderdale has been there. Drop by sometime, enjoy the grub, and tell them you read about it here.

I agree with Richard K-Jack's is a living legend. My family has been going here for as long as I can remember and this past visit brought back memories and left me 110% satisfied as I've always been. No, they don't offer monster size burgers or funky concoctions of burgers but you got to just take Jacks's for what they are-simple and no frills--just Jack's. I love that they have a condiment bar so you don't have to worry about them getting your toppings wrong and their fries have never disappointed---always fresh and sometimes scalding hot! All in all- I'd rather have that Jack's than Five Guys.

Old style Florida business here. From the decor to the way you order and pick up your food it's a blast from the past in a very good way.

My son had the 1/2 pound burger with extra cheese and bacon. I had the 1/2 pound burger with extra cheese. My daughter had the 1/3 burger plain. We all had fries and the kids had chocolate shakes. I had a root-beer.

Number 89 was called and I felt like I hit the hamburger lotto when I went up to pick up our winning food. $hit folks....this was real damn good. My son summed it up by saying that this was the best juicy burger he had ever had. My daughter agreed and my belly did too.

Both kids loved the shakes and the ice in my root-beer makes this soda great. It's that crunchy little ice that double as a snow-cone, you all know what I'm talking about. It's not strange to review ice in a drink......well is it? LOL.

Awesome Establishment. Tell Jack I love him and that Dan sent you. Stay Hungry!

BEST DAMN BURGER I'VE EVER HAD! I had my first Jack's visit last week. As a self proclaimed, "hood rat", I dont know why it took me so long to get over here. As soon as you walk in the door and smell the aroma coming from the kitchen, you know it's going to taste delicious.
I can't wait to come back.
TIP: Try the mustard/mayo/pickle sauce they have at the condiment bar! It's the perfect combo or classic toppings.

This burger joint is a living legend in Broward. Their burgers are very simplistic, as is the rest of the menu.

All they make is the basic hearty burger either with cheese or no cheese. Jack's has a very laissez-faire approach to burgers in the sense they are very hands off in the way their customers customize their burgers with condiments. Jacks's have a nice selection of condiments to choose from ranging from basics to some of their own made mustardy yellow sauce.

Another good item is their milk shakes. They are a little thick, but who doesn't love a little thickness in their lives.

The service is quick, real quick, and price affordable.

One of the best burger joints in Fort Lauderdale!

Yeah, it's been here forever, and never changes, which means, it never gets any better.

    Oh well.

The order below says it all:

    Plain cheeseburger
    French Fries
    Coke
    Choc shake

You can get 1/4, 1/3, and 1/2 lb burgers at this establishment.  The flavor is good for what you pay for and I enjoyed the fries.  The coke is not watered down and the chocolate shake tasted good.

I can definitely return if I am craving a burger.

I've been going to Jacks for about five years now. It's not a place I regularly visit, but every once in a while I get a craving for it. I like the honest atmosphere. You order your burger at the counter from a teenager who would rather be somewhere else. You can see the burgers getting grilled in the back by teenagers who also can't wait to get out of there. Wouldn't you feel the same way if you were in their shoes?

I get the impression (pure speculation) that most of these kids are relatives of the owners and therefore they do a good albeit disinterested job.

The meat is fresh ground and the patties are always fresh. The bread is alright and the condiments are also OK. You have to pay an extra $0.45 (if I remember correctly) if you want lettuce and tomato (in a baggie) to go with your burger.

The burgers really hit the spot if you've been out on the beach all day and you're on your way home, or if you have a hangover.

Once, feeling a bit lazy, I bought a few uncooked patties to grill at home, but that was a bit of a waste. I could have ground a good steak myself and gotten the same product. I've never had their other sandwiches.

The 1/2 lb burger dripped it's sweet juices down my hand and over my wrist like a good burger should.
Fast, simple, no frills. This is maybe not a first date unless you want to get it over with or have something else planned for the rest of the night.
I got a chocolate shake to go with my cheesey meaty goodness and it was a'ight, not as chocolatey as I would have liked. But it doesn't seem like the place to re-do an order.
Fries were good. Burger was great.
And what is key, the meat is fresh. As we sat in my living room contemplating where to get a good, cheap burger that is fresh..well we came upon this joint. Flo makes a great point, the meat is ground two times daily. SAH-WEET!
And there is a condiment table/bar, lube those puppies up!
Look forward to going back, hangover city baby, but someone else might have to drive as I fear that hangover!

we were craving a good burger last night after a long weekend. We actually found this place on Chowhound. Its small. and the tables are small. Its all wood inside, and Christmas lights are wrapped around various places. The burger meat is ground 2Xs daily, which is exactly what we were looking for, we were NOT in the mood for something frozen!
I got the 1/2Lb cheeseburger with bacon, then loaded it with ketchup, mayo, mustard, and pickles. Man oh man...
I may have found my new favorite hangover meal! Since moving back form Cali, I haven't found a burger worth of Hinanos comparison,  but this is it.
The meat is JUICY, and the buns are soft. OH! And dont even get me going on the crushed ice that comes in the soda!!!! This place is okay in my book. I cant go there a lot cause those burgers will go straight to me butt, but I totally recommend checking this place out if you are in the mood for a juicy, greasy , FRESH, burger.

If they sold beer, I would give 'em 5 stars, and I would be in heaven!
