Jake's will always be my favorite place in West Chester. I miss living a few blocks away! Duane is, of course, legendary, the best bartender ever. It is a small place that can get a little crowded and smoky, but it is the best little neighborhood bar. All the bartenders are fun and friendly and it is a great place to chill out with a few friends and play some shuffle board. Put some Johnny Cash on the Jukebox and tell Duane it is a gift from Sheridan :)
Review Source:Oh Jake's, how I miss you. I've been away from WC for more years than I'd like to mention. I was happy to return to find that while most of WC has changed, Jake's is still holding strong. Â Duane is still the man. The beer is still astoundingly cheap. Your hours of operation are fantastic as well.
I always make it a point to stop by Jake's when I'm in the area, even if my British husband isn't allowed inside b/c he doesn't have  Pennsylvania ID. HA. Can't be too careful I suppose!
Everyone has a favorite dive bar, and Jake's is it! If you're just getting off work (or out of school, this is a college town after all) Jake's is a great place to stop for a beer on your way home. 50cent drafts beats the hell out of the $3-4 you'd spend at most of the bars around here.
Review Source:What's not to like about .50 drafts all day every day.? Five bucks will get you a nice little buzz. Â Great juke box. Â Dwayne behind the bar. Â $3 Jakes Bar t-shirts. Â Its a W.C. institution. Â My favorite day drinking spot. Â Gets pretty crowded come 9ish and the place ain't big. Â Get there early, do your damage, and stumble home. Â ALRIGHT!
Review Source:In the category of Dive-Bars, Jake's is definitely a 5-star winner. As Russ and Lee commented, they have the cheapest beers in West Chester and I've observed that the clientle is generally there for one reason and one reason only - to get their drink on. It's small and gets very crowded the later you're there (especially on weekends) so go early if you want to sit down. They have a shuffleboard game sandwiched behind the tables if you like to play and the neons are insanely bright. Duane is at once terse and pleasant and is indeed a living legend in West Chester.
Jake's has been selling t-shirts with the year printed on them for as long as I can remember, and I regret not buying one when I first visited in the 90's. But, I still wear my "00" shirt with pride.
Jake's is always a part of our annual "West Chester Dive Bar Crawl" along with the Square Bar, Jitter's, Ryan's, and Rex's. We don't have the courage for the Spare Rib - yet.
I may live in Philly, but I will stay true to my West Chester roots. Â Jakes is a staple in WC, and Duane the bartender is a living legend. Â It opens at 8 am, which is great for both local and college drunks alike. Jake's location is absolutely perfectly placed amongst the student housing area, and is not easily found by outsiders. Â Words can not describe my love for Jake's. Â I wish I was there right now. Â Not only is beer .50 cents at all times, they also have the cheapest take-out six packs I have ever found. Â I remember one night drinking Peels pounders from Jake's in Amore's bathroom with a group of friends. Â If you ever make it there, buy a $3 shirt, and wear it with pride.
This review is dedicated to snow days spent in that tiny bar on Matlack Street.
this little place is going straight to the top of my dive bars list! its a little college bar that feels like a local bar. the highlight is drinking 50 cent drafts. that's right, 50 cent drafts. the only reason to go there is to hang out and drink. its a little place with no more than four tables, a bar and restrooms in the back. there aren't any lights, but its as bright as day because of all the neon signs that line the walls. mounted above the restrooms is a collection of what look like really really old beer cans. add druken bar hopping college students looking to spend what little money they have after a night about town and you've got a recipe for my favorite little dive bar around.
