Had I started this review in the 1.5 hours it took to deliver my food, I would obviously not grant Jia's four stars. However, I am now fat and happy on Jia's sushi. I am mighty pleased that my friend and I chose Jia's for our Sunday takeout night and I can look no further for delicious sushi delivered to my door (perhaps though a little cold).
The Sun-Thurs maki pricing is unbeatable. $3.50 for 16 maki favorites?! The rolls are just 6 pieces, so you will end up ordering 2-3 per person, but its still a great deal. My wonton soup was just two pork dumplings in the rather unexciting broth, but it was msg-lite so I enjoyed it. My friend was already stuffed from her four over-sized crab rangoons. She is a Jia regular and loves this appetizer. The spicy tuna was the best ive had in awhile, though my friend thought the Philly roll was a little sub-par. The Shrimp tempura was very full and flavorful. The favorite of the night was the Green Maki, which was super fresh and zippy, yet creamy and substantial.
While Jia took forever to deliver AND forgot our free promo spring roll, I will take their quality sushi and deep discounts any day over some other local sushi delivery places. I guess order early and be prepared to microwave your hot dishes.
Been ordering here regularly - meaning 2-3 times a month - for the last eight years or so, it is definitely my favorite Chinese takeout in the city. Â I have not tried their Japanese menu. Â
Not all the dishes are great, but I found a the ones that that I really like... Shrimp in lobster sauce, sesame chicken, chicken and vegetables, beef fried rice. Â The soothing lettuce wraps can also be quite soothing. Â You can really control how spicy a dish is made, which is great.
For a small extra fee they deliver to Wicker Park / Bucktown, which is great given the lack of good Chinese delivery options in the neighborhood.
