Ordered my usual Honey Chicken Salad from the new menu. Â I noticed the price had increased to $15. Â The salad was about 2/3 the size of the former salad, mostly chopped lettuce with small portions of tomato, angel hair pasta, no noodles and 6 small pieces of grilled chicken. Â Waitress was honest enough to tell us that this was the third complaint in two days about the portion and composition of the salad. Â Very disappointed.
Review Source:This place was exactly as I expected. Out shopping for bridesmaid's dresses for the day, we had a reservation for 12 here because our first choice didn't take reservations and there were too many of us to chance it. We waited a few minutes for the table but that's because we came early for our reservation. The menu is a good size, not overwhelmingly large and they have brunch on the back, which a bunch of us didn't realize. A few ladies ordered drinks since it was a celebratory kind of day. One of them was wrong so she mentioned this to the waitress and not that I saw but apparently was replied with an eye roll! Her "new" drink came back 20 minutes later and was still incorrect so we just decided to give up on that front and order our food. I got the quesadilla because I wasn't wildly hungry and some other dishes people got were the cobb salad, the burger, a ruben, and a lot of people had the onion soup. They brought us bread baskets but then immediately following brought us our food, appetizers and entrees at once. And the cobb salad came absolutely last, with some waiting involved, which was odd. The waitress continued to be kind of rude, she must've been having a bad day. The food was okay, nothing I'd go back for. Everyone seemed to like their food fine. At one point the manager came over to talk to us about how things were going and thanking us for choosing his restaurant. After the meal the bride's mother explained to him about what happened and he was very apologetic. I'm sure this is a situational experience because obviously this is a chain but I don't think I'd go back for the food.
Review Source:Tried to grab a quick bite before seeing a movie across the street at Legacy Place and what a mistake. Not sure why I keep going back to Joe's but I always think it can't get any worse. For starters this location is a mess. The parking lot cannot accomodte the amount of people eating here and the "call ahead" policy is a joke and the hostess or whatever they are trying to be are disorganized and couldn't care less. They let a line of people build up waiting to add their names to a list and they do not have a clue (why there is a 45 minute wait for this place I could not begin to explain). Plus there is a very large bar area that is first come first serve seating which is a joke and unnecessary. People stand in the middle of the room fighting for tables so they don't have to wait the 40-60 absurd minutes to get a regular table in the dining room? Once you get seated you are tortured with the same tired menu I looked at years ago at this place. It never changes with average boring selections with no taste. I agree this place is just slightly above the Chili's across the street but it still is a horrible chain. The Chicken Club I ordered was like something I could get at Friendly's with a crazy high price ($27 bucks for two chicken clubs and two cokes??) The only thing that made up for this visit is the server is not that bad and was quick and friendly. Skip this place and visit your local pizza joint. The food is probably better and you don't have to wait in a ridiculous line to get in. Plus the prices are much more reasonable.
Review Source:I have to say I was a bit surprised. Â The interior was fantastic. Â I love the split, dining room v. lounge. Â The menu was traditional and about in line with location as far as cost. Â I will say I was a bit shocked at the $13.00 salad. Â Friend of mine ordered and said it was not worth it. Â Shoot, for $13.00 I could have made enough salad to feed 10 people. Â Anyway, that is just the value lesson.
So I did have a burger that was cooked perfect, was very flavorful. Â Their ice tea is actually brewed and fresh. Â Spot on.
So for me, when I am at Legacy, this will be the place to go.
Unfortunately, this place has gone WAY downhill since the new owners took over. Food quality has slipped AND the prices have gone up. $9 for a little glass of white wine??? This is Dedham not New York City! Joe's famous "hand cut fries" are still advertised that way, but are now typical chain restaurant frozen fries. The famous cheeseburger has somehow shrunk by about 25%, steak tip dinner consisted of 5 (five)! tips for $18. Sorry, for my money, I'll go elsewhere.
Review Source:Ordered the Ahi Tuna burger, waited thirty minutes for the order to come out. Â Very overcooked and dry. Â Sent it back and ordered the soup of the day and a side of spinach. Thought that should be quick as I had some time constraints. Another fifteen minutes still no food. Â So sat for 45 minutes and left hungry.
Review Source:It looks like a quality chain inside/outside. Â The service we had was as good as it gets. Â The substance (food/alcohol) was a D-.
                ::
Good things: Dining room size, service.
Bad things: Food/Alcohol
I'll just start with the good. Â The waiter was superb- well spoken kid in his early twenties, attentive and could work at an expensive steak house if he wanted to. Â His name may or may not have been Ryan. Â The dining room was spacious and comfortable. Â That's basically it.
I was interested to see that they offered a gluten-free Margherita pizza for $10.95. Â I was shocked when a cheese pizza with gross looking basil on it was placed in front of me. Â Even if this was a traditional crust pie, it would not have been a Margherita. Â The GF crust was the best part, otherwise, it was lower quality than Ellio's frozen pizza- with basil on it. Â Ellio's is actually edible.
The young lady who I was with ordered a pink lemonade alcoholic beverage. Â It had zero liquor in it, so Ryan (we're goin with Ryan to be consistent, here) took it to the bartender for the adult version. Â He stuck around to make sure she was happy with it.
We should have gone with Not Your Average Joe's instead of this Below Your Average Joe's (ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!) --- Well Below Average Joke.
It's more 3 and half stars than 4 stars. Â But I'll give them 4 stars. Â It wasn't busy the night I was there but I wish the waitress more attentive and come check us more. Â We never got bread basket. Â The food was good and the drink was also good. Â Overall not a bad place to come eat if you're happen to be in the area.
Review Source:I used to frequent this restaurant. I don't go to too many chain restaurants but this was an exception. After my last visit I will never return. The food quality has gone way down hill the steak tips were tasteless and overlooked. The pasta primavera was dreadful. The fajita came out without a sizzle and the tortilla wraps were limited to three, when I asked for additional tortillas I was told they were made to order (complete lie) and they never came. We ordered two desserts only one came out. The waitress was the worst I have ever had and again the food has stooped below a fast food chain level. I called the manager the next day and told him about the issues I had the previous night. He seemed genuinely unconcerned and like he eas used to hearing the complaints. I was only calling to let them know that there were problems that need to be corrected, I was offered a free entree if I was to call the manager ahead of my next visit. I told him I was not interested in a free entree and would rather eat at a soup kitchen than return here.
Review Source:Not up to snuff for the price.
4 adults, 1 child; the bill came to over $100 and we ordered nothing special. No adult drinks or dessert.
Burger was bland, and by contrast the pasta dish was about the saltiest thing I've ever eaten. Â Steak tips were cold and dry.
I understand that we aren't paying premium prices on the entrees, but it has to be better quality than cafeteria food.
Service was slow, but I don't blame the waitstaff. Â They were friendly, almost apologetic.
Great service, food usually excellent. My father and I went to eat at Joe's a few weeks ago. It has always been one of my favorites restaurants. I ordered a garden salad to start and the chicken, broccoli, ziti for dinner. The salad dressing tasted strange, and was taken off the bill by the manager with no argument. Then, the meal came and the pasta had weird spots on it. Turns out it was just burnt, but nevertheless it was re-cooked quickly, and again very apologetic manager. He took all of my food off the bill! I didn't expect that, since I did end up eating it the second time. He knows how to run a restaurant and keep good patrons happy. I WILL be back again.
Review Source:Not sure about the past reviews, but I'm not a usual "Joe's American Bar & Grill" chick, but we went here cause it was close to Legacy Place and didn't want to dea with the parking at Legacy so we came to eat here. Â The place was busy on a Saturday at 6pm, so we grabbed a bar table and had dinner. Â The waiter we had was fantastic, he remembered everything we said including the additional stuff we added to our meals. Â He was cordial, checked on us, and was SPOT ON with everything he had to do. Â I give major kudos to him cause it was very busy. Â We heard glass break three times, so perhaps he was not the only one bustling around. Â I wish I had taken his name so that I could thank him in this review personally. Â
The prices on the menu is not a place you go to just to grab a pizza and a burger, so when you're paying prices like this, service makes a difference. Â
I had a turkey burger that seemed a little on the eh side, but it didn't matter I enjoyed it nonetheless. Â The house salad though is FANTASTIC. Â I LOVE LOVE LOVE the cheese that the put on the salad. Â I didn't add the bacon though, so not sure how the combo would have come out. Â Without it though, was just my style.
Horrible service.
I went on a Saturday night with 2 other friends, so we sat in the lounge as a party of 3. There was no wait in lounge but we had still made reservations after being turned away at almost every restaurant at Patriots place in Foxboro.
Our server, Italo R seemed to be having a bad day, he made little eye contact and rushed us to order immediately as we sat down. Â Once we did proceed to order, the food did not take too long to come out. (which was great). When the food came out the server dropped the few of the little fries that were on my plate, landed on the floor (pretty disappointing). He did however, emphasis strongly that there were no free refills on the lemonade I had ordered. I might be overreacting but I gave him a blank stare and said "well that doesn't matter to me, may I please have a lemonade" Â I'm not going to pull the "race card" but after that comment I felt extremely uncomfortable.
My friend found an onion type object in her drink, we immediately called the manager over who then took the object and questioned our speculations. (I'm literally rolling my eyes at this point)
We probably stayed here for 35 minutes top, which is extremely short for a late night dinner in my opinion. Everything just felt rushed, management had questioned our authority of the object found in my friends drink.
I just wasn't satisfied with this dining experience, this isn't the first time I've experienced bad service here. The Newbury street location is far better overall.
The previous reviews are pretty accurate..and if I could have given it a 2.5, I would have.
We were a large group of 15, it took over 40 minutes of sitting to place our food order, it was just weird the servers just disappeared time after time.
The clam chowder was good, but I ordered what's called "french dip", it's like beef au jous. Â It came with fries...which were kind of cold.
Overall most were loving the food, pasta overcooked and food luke warm.
Ehh...there's plenty of great places in Dedham.
This place is no good, and I knew it would be before I even stepped in their doors. Â I usually avoid any eating establishment with the words "Joe" or "American" or even "Bar and Grill". Â
We went there after our orchestra concert last Sunday to celebrate the end to a good season of playing. Â
Good things:
- Parking Lot & location
- Good drink menu
- It's huge - tons of seating, so it can fit huge parties with no warning on  a Sunday afternoon
- Yummy warm bread, so good - I ate a ton of it.
Bad things:
- NOTHING VEGAN. Â There are only 2 vegetarian items - the nachos and pasta primavera with veggies. Â Neither are vegan. Â I asked the waiter if they have veggie burgers and he said no. Â Who doesn't carry a veggie burger in the 21st century? Â Seriously, get with it folks. Â The only thing I could eat was a side of steamed garlic spinach. Â Yes, I was that girl - eating spinach among a bunch of friends eating burgers. Thanks for making me the outcast. Â Surely they could put one vegan item. Â The other chains nearby have options.
- Lame Sangria: Â I love a good sangria when it's done right, however this was not the case. I ordered the pink sangria. Â It was ok, but the fruit in it was just orange slices. Â That is not a sangria. Where's my fruit that's been marinating for a day? Â Apple? Melon? Grape? Â Nope, just an orange slice.
- Such slow service: Â It took forever to get our drink orders in and then it took forever to even get our drinks. Then it took forever again to order our food, and then it took forever to get our food. Â This place was so slow. I also had to ask multiple times to get a water.
- Not great service: Â When I ask you what you can do for me as a vegan, try to be creative. Â Don't just tell me there is nothing I can eat, and let me order a side of spinach. Â
I hope to never go back.
My husband and I are HUGE Joe's fans (we even have the VIP rewards card), but we are new to the Dedham Joe's. Â We used to live in Quincy so we always went to the Braintree one. Â
Obviously the menu and everything is exactly the same, since its a chain. Â
A few must have's:
The Pink Sangria-- Most of the time they will limit you to two thats how strong they are. Â Its like a watermelon jolly rancher that just melts in your mouth.
the Nachos-- you dont even need to get the grande. Â Just the normal ones are delicious enough
Chicken Club Sandwich and the Cheddar Bacon Cheeseburger.
As far as the Dedham location specifically-- the parking lot is always full. Â seriously. Â no matter when we go, we drive around the lot looking for a spot.
I have been coming to Joes for years and Charleys before that. Always have great chili and burgers are very good. Found food to be hit or miss sometimes, and for a grill, not a great selection of sandwiches. Used to have a fantastic honey mustard chicken sandwich and a great BBQ chic sandwich too.
Too much competition with Legacy Place now for Joes to not step up their game. Â Could be much better.
The location here is great if you are hungry and are exiting or entering I-95, or if you are doing some shopping at Legacy place or the surrounding plazas.
There is ample parking and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere - dark panel wood, rich leather booths, compatible wall art etc. The waitsatff/hostess are pleasant as well.
The proximity to the highway is what brought my family and I in the other day, as they were heading north up 95 afterwards. We were seated quickly and were ahead of the dinner rush, which was great. From here things started to tail off.
Our server was very slow, and several times forgot to bring things over to our table (cream for the coffee, butter for the bread, refills on drinks - my meal was finished before I got mine). We later found he was seated 4 tables at once and he apologized for the slow service at the end of our meal, but regardless, you should be able to handle that kind of volume on a Sat. night. Perhaps some of the blame lies with the hosting staff, but either way not impressed.
Additionally, the food was good, but not great. I got a ceasar salad with very watery, dying lettuce and bland dressing. The Mac & Cheese was delicious, but the portion was pretty small, especially for the price.
On the whole, it was an average meal at best and it was probably closer to a 2 star experience than a 3, but since my parents picked up the tab the price wasn't a huge issue this time. I probably won't be coming back based on the service speed and meh food, but if you're hungry and in the area you can do a lot worse.
My goodness, what a (good) difference from the Newbury St location (see my prior review,...yuck!). Four of us for dinner on a Sunday, sat right away, not too cold a dining room, not too loud. Waiter (Matt?) was very attentive and nice. All food came out piping hot and was yummy! I had a cup of chowdah (yum!) and the Ahi Tuna salad. Very pleased. The whole table was happy. I give it 5 stars because I know we will come back here... They need some new desserts though!
Review Source:The service my group received at Joe's American Bar & Grill today was outstanding. We helped a friend move, and were far from home and looking for a restaurant that might be showing the Champion's League title game. Not easy to find in Massachusetts! We went in, and they weren't showing it, however, when we asked the hostess about it, she immediately had them switch some of the tvs over to it. Yay!
Our waitress was great. Very friendly and prompt. The food was awesome. I ate like a maniac and loved every bite. Since we wanted to see the entire game, my boyfriend and I split a Charle's River Pie. Wow. Wow. Wow. It is huge, and mostly a chunk of coffee ice cream. I'm amazed we finished it. The atmosphere was great too. I had never been to any Joe's before, and I was very impressed. I'd definitely go again.
Very pleasant dining experience after working in the humidity to help a friend move all day!
Joe's is alright, but just alright. Â The menu isn't that great, and most of the time I just settle for a burger. Â I got the CBZ once, but the portion was way too small for the price. Â
The two stars is mainly for the service. Â Usually I choose the Joe's in Braintree, but on this particular occasion, my boyfriend and I met our friend at the one in Dedham. Â Our friend was running late due to the snowstorm occurring outside. Â Our waiter greeted us and got our drinks, and we told him we did not want to order until our friend got there. Â Two minutes later he returned asking for an order. Â Our friend was still not there, so we put in an appetizer, hoping to appease him. Â It didn't work. Â He came over again wanting our food order after he dropped the appetizer. Â We told him again that we were waiting for a friend and he left.
The NANO second our friend sat down he was back at the table.
I think you get it.
Not bad service, just very very annoying.
The food is good. I like the french dip. The dining room service is lacking, but I think we just got a slow server because I noticed many others hustling around and our guy seemed drunk. I LOVE the bartenders. They are always nice and fast every time I have been to the bar. The bar food is decent and the beers are OK. I think Joe's is a decent place.
Review Source:I have to agree with many of the reviews I read about this place . . . the food is not what I expected from this place. Â While it was good, it was not what I expected when I walked in here. Â The place seems to put on a good show as far as the aesthetics are concerned . . . the nice dark woods and the well decorated atmosphere are all very nice and pleasant. Â The waitstaff was very attentive and had a good attention to detail. Â But when it came right down to it, I was disappointed by the steak I had -- it was not terribly tender, the New England clam chowder, while nicely presented in a bread bowl, was not quite as rich and flavorful as I would have liked (although the fresh milled pepper was a nice touch to add).
So if you are looking to impress a client, then bring them here if you want to impress them with service, but don't care too much about the food. Â If you are here to impress a date, then you might want to think otherwise.
This restaurant has the tastiest, juiciest burgers ever served in a restaurant! Â You can not go wrong with a burger here, they season them just right! Â To make it even more fantastic - add boursin cheese and/or bacon! Â To die for!! Â Love it!
What I do find interesting is that burgers at other Joe's locations are not nearly as good. Â This location must have a special chef in the kitchen!
It's Joe's - very average food, but a pleasurable chain whose fair is a cut above the neighboring chilis & co. This Joe's has always had good service, too. I do crave the chowder in a bread bowl sometimes, and they also have a large lounge area with a bunch of TVs and sports on. Useful.
Review Source:Meh. I've experienced better is a perfect way to describe Joe's. The food here isn't impressive, the service is nice and friendly, but the prices are high for the lack of quality.
The good thing about Joe's is it's location. Right off of 128 on RT 1 across from Fox 25. It's a good place to meet for a business lunch, and the atmosphere is good for business. The place was full of suburban salesman and professionals all decked out in their suits, but still had the jeans and work boots guys at the bar.
The downside is the food. You get TGIF's strip mall quality food with city prices. Nothing on the menu is bad, but it's not amazing either. Are you picking up what I'm putting down here? You just don't get any bang for your buck.
The staff is on top of things. Our waitress today was friendly, took her time telling us the days specials, and was quick to return with drinks. The server brought the food out quickly and offered us the crushed black pepper (always better than table top pepper).
Joe's is a good place for a convenient business lunch but not the kind of place you take a date or someone you're trying to impress.
Joe's is Joe's. Â It's a quality chain, with decent food, and fairly reasonable prices. Â Think a slightly more upscale version of Friday's. Â I was just here tonight with a bunch of girlfriends. Â Most of us got salads (excellent portions too that made me feel like I was eating more than just a few bites of rabbit food) and wine. Â My riesling was a most affordable $7, and quite tasty. Â Combined with my salad and tip, my whole meal was $25. Â Service was a little slow, but not bad. Â Since we were coming from all different directions, the location was convenient too. Â Overall, most def. A-ok
Review Source:Very average american chow, but if you get to the movies early and want a quick bit to eat, go to Joe's and eat at the bar. Â Safe burgers, good onion rings, average rustic cut fries, and a good selection of beers. Â What else would expect for a bar and grill?
On a side note: Â According to my friend Rob, who was asked to leave his girlfiend's parents Thanksgiving dinner, Joe's is the only place open from Wrentham to Boston on Route 1 on Thanksgiving Day.
Basically a sit-down family-style restaurant with some local touches like clam chowder and a roll on the cheese steak that isn't quite a sub roll (not exactly sure what to call it in fact, but it was pretty tasty).
The service was good, very friendly, and quite speedy. Â The appetizers were good and the prices weren't bad at all. Â Not a bad choice if you're in the area and looking for something in a rush.
