I've read the bad reviews but we've never been even close to having a bad experience here.  Been 4 times with the wife after my initial solo dinner experience.  Always have sat at the bar and the bartenders are attentive and friendly.  The food is plenty good and the prices can't be beat.  Dinners come with two sides and a salad - usually for $10-12.  Now I'm not talking about Capital Grille quality but you leave here after a couple beers each and dinner with tip for less than a $40 bill.  Plus some interesting conversation if you're so inclined.  Sooner or later I'm sure the one star day will come but as of now they are 5 for 5.

Stopped in with Junior a couple of Saturdays ago for lunch. The food was good; not great, but more than decent. I had the Buffalo Chicken sandwich ($7.99). It could have used Frank's Hot Sauce instead of the cayenne flecked BBQ-like sauce it came with. And having to ask for blue cheese (which didn't come on the sandwich) and then being charged $0.50 for a small cup is lame. When I asked for hot sauce (expecting Frank's), I got a crusty bottle of Tabasco. Listen up Boston: Buffalo means Frank's Hot Sauce and blue cheese. Always and forever. Junior had a Reuben ($7.99). It was packed with meat, slaw and Russian dressing. Now, you won't confuse the Corrib's corned beef with NY deli, but it was tasty.

Service from Krystale was excellent. She was friendly and attentive. The surprising disappointment was sitting next to two foul-mouthed, 40-something thuggish types who looked like they'd been out all night breaking knee caps. This was unexpected since the Corrib has a reputation for being family-friendly and is very involved in youth sports. I'd expect characters like this in a crusty Haymarket or Townie dive - places I wouldn't take my kid - but not on Centre Street in West Roxbury.

IF you'd like to hear old timey political stories about Boston politics while eating great homemade comfort food find a seat at the corrib and just listen. Nothing is more entertaining coupled with great food. A story from a Boston Irish patriarch beats tv any day of the week
