I'm just discovering the dining and drinking options in Roslindale and West Roxbury, and I have been pretty happy so far - in my search, "the bistro" came highly recommended.
Sadly I can't pass that recommendation on.
The good? The bruschetta appetizer was amazing: great taste, cooked just right, perfect portion size for an app. The sangria was also great, some of the best I've had recently. And the mashed potatoes were also great.
The not-so-good? Both mine and my fiancee's entrees were not good, not bad, but just very bland. I got the pork chop and it lacked flavor and I'm pretty sure the caramelized apples on top were not actually caramelized, but considering they were draped in a huge swath of melted mozzarella it's hard to say. My fiancee's filet del mar (sp?) was also quite bland.
The experience was great, our waiter was super helpful, the ambience was spot-on for a romantic dinner, and the drinks were very good. I will definitely be back - but for the sangria, not dinner.
I'm new to the area, I lived in Italy for a year and up and down the east coast the rest of the time. This place is really good. I had the salmon and loved it. They have excellent drinks as well, you can get a carafe for like 20$ (if you split it just between two people, each person will get like 3 drinks out of it). The outdoor seating is gorgeous. It's lovely outside and amazing. I took a friend her who had lived in Boston her whole life and she thought the outdoor seating was one of the prettiest she'd been to! Highly recommend it.
Review Source:It's really nice in here. Love the ambiance. Â Wish the food would catch up.
Nothing on the menu ever jumps out at me. I find it overly pricey for what it is. The regulars I've spoken to (people LOVE this place) say the chef makes them special off-menu things. Or seem to stick to burgers and fries. Maybe that's why they're regulars??
Since I'm not crazy about the food, I went to have some drinks and catch a game at the bar. This is not the place for that. The bartender did not seem pleased we only ordered fries, so we left.
Also, if you're a vegetarian- check out the menu first. It's limited.
I've been 3 or 4 times because I really want it to grow on me. It's not. I wish it wasn't so, but it's my last choice in this neighborhood.
