I'm just discovering the dining and drinking options in Roslindale and West Roxbury, and I have been pretty happy so far - in my search, "the bistro" came highly recommended.

Sadly I can't pass that recommendation on.

The good? The bruschetta appetizer was amazing: great taste, cooked just right, perfect portion size for an app. The sangria was also great, some of the best I've had recently. And the mashed potatoes were also great.

The not-so-good? Both mine and my fiancee's entrees were not good, not bad, but just very bland. I got the pork chop and it lacked flavor and I'm pretty sure the caramelized apples on top were not actually caramelized, but considering they were draped in a huge swath of melted mozzarella it's hard to say. My fiancee's filet del mar (sp?) was also quite bland.

The experience was great, our waiter was super helpful, the ambience was spot-on for a romantic dinner, and the drinks were very good. I will definitely be back - but for the sangria, not dinner.

I'm new to the area, I lived in Italy for a year and up and down the east coast the rest of the time. This place is really good. I had the salmon and loved it. They have excellent drinks as well, you can get a carafe for like 20$ (if you split it just between two people, each person will get like 3 drinks out of it). The outdoor seating is gorgeous. It's lovely outside and amazing. I took a friend her who had lived in Boston her whole life and she thought the outdoor seating was one of the prettiest she'd been to! Highly recommend it.

It's really nice in here. Love the ambiance.  Wish the food would catch up.

Nothing on the menu ever jumps out at me. I find it overly pricey for what it is. The regulars I've spoken to (people LOVE this place) say the chef makes them special off-menu things. Or seem to stick to burgers and fries. Maybe that's why they're regulars??

Since I'm not crazy about the food, I went to have some drinks and catch a game at the bar. This is not the place for that. The bartender did not seem pleased we only ordered fries, so we left.

Also, if you're a vegetarian- check out the menu first. It's limited.
I've been 3 or 4 times because I really want it to grow on me. It's not. I wish it wasn't so, but it's my last choice in this neighborhood.

I never complain at restaurants but this place is so poorly managed I feel obligated to share.
The staff is very nice but hopelessly incompetent.
Ordered a drink, took 20 minutes and one reminder to get it.
Ordered dinner, 1/2 hour later they delivered incorrect meals.  Mentioned it was wrong, they took it back.  Another 1/2 passes and another incorrect meal arrives. Waiter never checks in during the wait.  I wound up taking it and eating 1/2.  Waiter shows up asking how it was and I mentioned that I got the wrong meal served twice.   He recited correctly what I ordered and got the bill at my request.  No offer to comp it even though I clearly didn't eat most of it.
I would really like to love this place, great location, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, but this is my third bad experience here and three strikes and you are out.

I love this place. If I could give it 20 stars, I would. We discovered it when we had just moved into our Roslindale apartment and were looking for a place to celebrate our new digs. To begin with, the service is wonderful. Every waiter/waitress that has helped us has been lovely, warm and, well, helpful. They have always gone above and beyond to make our meal enjoyable.
Then there are the cocktails. In a word: phenomenal. You couldn't pick a bad one.
The food is always delicious and well-prepared. Great serving sizes, great options and delicious desserts, as well. A necessity.
So, this was all enough to give it a 5-star review in my book.
And then, boom! It got even better.
My partner graduated from Harvard this past week and we were looking for a place to celebrate. We thought Birch Street Bistro would be an excellent place and I contacted the owner, Marc. I hope I am spelling his name correctly.
He took down the reservation about 2 weeks ahead of time, 16 people for an indoor dinner, and I had no concerns.
Then, on the day of our celebration, he emailed me asking if we would rather have it outside, as it was a beautiful day. He gave me his cell phone number and told me I could text him at any point to let him know.
I have never in my life had such service.
I texted him "yes, please" and he set up the whole thing in the beautiful courtyard.
My guests and I had an absolutely fantastic celebratory dinner with, once again, incredible service, incredible cocktails and incredible food.
Marc even came over to make sure everything was going well.
    This place is a must-go!

This is a beautiful hidden Gem in Roslindale. Great Atmosphere and the Food in Amazing I had the Burger and I must say it was far from Simple in taste. It was cooked exactly how I wanted and it came out in a timely manner. One thing that I think goes unnoticed is their Desert menu. OMG it is amazing!! what I enjoy is the Roasted / Caramelized Banana with vanilla ice cream served in a martini glass. yum
The staff is also amazing , great personalities and very attentive to the customers.

I came back with the Boyf this weekend, and have officially decided that Birch Street is my new place. The manager seated us at a table by the window, even though it was a four person table and there were only two of us, so that was really sweet. The food was just as stellar this time around, though I have a request that the chefs try for a few more vegetarian-friendly dishes. If you eat fish, though, you should really have the glazed salmon on red cabbage, I inhaled it...

The place grew on Me.  My mother told Me about this fine establishment long before I walked through its doors and when I did I was highly impressed.

The food is tasty and the portions are the right size.  The staff is EXCELLENT!!  I am big on how the staff treats its customers.  That makes or breaks your business. Smart business people know this and the owner of this place knows that. Has the patience of a saint.  Very smart businessman/woman.  The decor screams class, style, and elegance.  Very nice indeed.

The nights they have live bands are pretty good.  I love to sit and watch people just enjoy the music.

It's a very nice place to go.  To eat or enjoy night activities.

I see some kind of expansion in the future of Birch Street Bistro!!  Investments on the horizon for this wonderful place!!

I want to like you. I live in Rozzie, you're not far from my house, but with so many options right next door to you, I won't ever be back.

    1) Drinks- Totally forgettable. In all honesty, I truly can't even remember what I got. 'Nuff said.

    2) Food- See above. You taste like every other uninspired, directionless pub in the world with nothing to differentiate your food. Please don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with pub food and I love a good burger, mac and cheese, pork chop etc but there was nothing going for us at all.

    3) Atmosphere- See above and above. It looks like this place was built from a "make a pub" kit bought at Home Depot.

Really, with Delfino's and Sophia's Grotto right around the corner, why waste my time and money here?

Went to BSB today, January 5 at 6:00pm. We were seated right away and our server, Val was super friendly and attentive. We split a Caesar salad that was pretty big for one serving and it was fantastic. My boyfriend said it was the best salad he had ever had. I got the 'Rice and Beans' it was really good and creamy but my only complaint was the Pancetta. Some pieces were melt in your mouth good while others were so chewy it was impossible to eat. Overall I would give the 'rice and beans' a 4/5 considering the Pancetta. My boyfriend got a burger and said it was all right. The fries looked burnt but then again, I feel like with all the things they offer you wouldn't want to order a burger and expect it to be gourmet.

We are regular patrons at Birch Street and it has not disappointed us once. The only drawback would be the occasional wait to get seats during high volume times, because this place is so popular. Whenever this happens Marc, the manager, is always around to chat and check in. We never feel ignored while waiting for a seat.

FOOD: We've had a good variety from the menu and we are NEVER disappointed. Everything so far has been cooked just right, seasoned well and tastes fresh. I am addicted to their raviolis and risottos in particular. The Filet Mignon is also worth it. The bar is also well stocked and this place makes a perfect dirty martini.

WAITSTAFF: Always friendly and attentive, though when it gets really busy sometimes forgetful, which I can understand.

DECOR: Love it. Cozy, high ceilings, classy french bistro style. Reminds me of NYC in the best ways. I would prefer no TV- but I know with Boston sports being what they are, it will never happen. At least it's contained and discreet.

Entertainment: Live jazz Thursday nights. SO GOOD. Just wish it didn't start so late!

I've tried Birch Street Bistro two times, and have to say I am thoroughly impressed.  The atmosphere is great--cozy, trendy without being pretentious, and lively.  (I haven't been for a live music sesh, but it's on my to-do list.)  The owner has been there the two times I went, and he personally made sure every table was completely satisfied and enjoying their night. Huge bonus points for that!

I went  with a friend, and they're already planning our return trip.  Two loyal customers won over!

I live right in roslindale square, and have been coming to the bistro for years. When they first opened, it was still a great spot, but I found their menu to be somewhat limited. In the last couple years however, they have really stepped it up, and now I consider them to be among the top restaurants in the area. Last time I was in there I got the frenched pork chop, which was wrapped in bacon, then covered in gorgonzola and sliced almonds. Holy crap it was good. I've also tried their crab cakes, salmon, fish and chips, and steak, and they are all amazing. A bit pricey, but well worth it for the quality.
The ambience inside is great, and eating outside in their shared courtyard is unbeatable, which makes you feel like your at a little cafe in Paris. Love this place, and will continue coming here as long as they're open.

    *3.5 stars*

Surprisingly not too busy on a Saturday evening in August (maybe because it was so hot in Boston that anyone with any brains had escaped the city!).  Service was fine, and my salmon was good -- the serving size was enormous for the price.  I liked the fact that there was plenty of space between tables, and the booth we were in was quite comfortable. I would definitely be interested in returning if I have the chance.

To start - the service here is really strange. I arrived around 7:15 and the restaurant was about half full. I was with one other person - my mother - and there was a couple waiting already. The couple said they would sit at the bar and wait for a table outside. The hostess said that she could seat us outside with a bit of a wait or inside right away and we said that we'd eat inside. She told us that she just had to clear the table. Then another party of two came in and she gave them the same info. They opted to eat inside as well and the hostess sat them immediately at a table that was empty when we walked in. The party that came in after my party was sat before us.  Same amount of people. She then went to clean off our table which took a bit of time. This is not the first time I've had to wait to sit when the place is a quarter to half full.

Once we eventually were seated, our waiter was very nice and helpful. But then the meal was nothing to write home about. My mother's risotto was ok but nothing special  - the shrimp were overcooked. My salmon was overcooked and sitting in a bland sauce. Perhaps it was an off night? I think I will avoid the bistro and continue to go around the corner to Delfino.

On the plus side, their beer and wine list is quite good and the space is lovely.

A special occasion turned memorable for the wrong reason.  They don't accept gift cards here and I didn't find out until it was a little too late.

I feel somewhat bad because I've had so many good experiences here.  It's a really attractive space, and the food is consistently good.  The service can be a little hot and cold, but usually the overall experience makes up for it.

Unfortunately, tonight I was humiliated.  My date and I had a nice night with drinks appetizer and dinner.  I knew the bill would be approaching $100, but I had cash and a Visa Cash Gift Card I had received as  a Christmas gift.  I had been saving it for a special occasion.

After presenting the gift card to our server, she behaved as if I had just given her a fist full of food stamps.  Apparently their system puts some kind of weird hold on them, blah, blah.  She explained that I'd either wind up not being able to use the full amount or the establishment would "lose" because they would only get 80% right away and have to wait 5 days to get the other 20%.

My date wound up helping with the bill, even though I insisted she not.  The whole thing just wound up being really awkward and uncomfortable.  A good night was completely ruined because our server didn't want to be inconvenienced.

The thing that gets me is that this is a slightly pricey place in an up and coming neighborhood that isn't all the way up yet.  It's not like everyone is running around with platinum credit cards.  The plus side of the coin is that there are great places popping up around here every week.  I'll be exploring other options in the future.

Went to this modestly swank local bistro for the first time this weekend with my wife and two couples. We were looking for creative cocktails, tasty bites and a grown-up atmosphere after attending a holiday pasta dinner at our kids' school. Suffice to say, we didn't eat much at the school function, but the food isn't why you do those things. Anyway, Birch Street Bistro really fit the bill.

I was thrilled to see Chimay on tap and had a few of those. There are other excellent craft brew choices. My more sophisticated companions (I write tongue-in-cheek) had cocktails. The fried calamari tossed with lemon garlic butter ($11) was fantastic; the best I ever had. I wasn't expecting much and BSB doesn't over-hype it on the menu, but if you're a seafood fan you must order it. The calamari was more sauteed than deep fried and was served over uber-fresh greens. The combination of sweet squid, tangy lemon juice and hot pepper is a winner. The antipasto plate ($10) included salami, sopressata, prosciutto, cheddar, fresh mozzarella and olives dressed with a top shelf EVOO and served with toasted but chewy pita triangles. The portion was skimpy, but the taste of the cold cuts and buffalo mozz was intense. We also got a special pizza, but I didn't try it as the pizza was made on a pita, not my favorite bread and certainly not how I like my pizzas.

Our server, Denise K., was all you could want: friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, and accommodating. For example, a friend ordered a dirty martini not having had one before. She didn't like it so Denise offered to replace it even though said friend was willing to "write it off." Imagine that? We were also a little, uh, boisterous. Not quite parents gone wild, but definitely yucking it up. The staff was very cool about letting us have fun.

I plan to return with just my wife for dinner. I have my eye on the scallops w/ spinach Gorgonzola rissotto. You should go to. Say "hi" if you see me.

Please let me know what you think of this review. And consider following me. You won't be disappointed. Thanks!

I wish I had a better experience after seeing all the great reviews.  I might need to try this place again but kind of hesitant.

It's a very cute place with a nice bar with plenty of seats, a mixture of booths and tables in an open area with a patio in the back.

Our server was very polite and nice but somehow timid and not that knowledgeable in the menu.  If our server was a vegetarian, the server should still know what are other servers' top faves and know what the ingredients are than just saying "and other stuff".

It took forever, more than 25 minutes for our food to come out, even our server checked on it, since our server was worried too.  Plates that were served were the chicken and penne, a burger, scallops and risotto, and the special filet and risotto.

My risotto was very soupy and there was too much Gorgonzola.  My mom's meal looked very unappealing and she barely ate it with overcooked steak.  The chicken and penne was ok and the burger, nothing special.

I know this place has really good intentions, so hopefully I can update this review down the road.

Food is awesome, drinks are great, and atmosphere beautiful... not to mention they have outdoor seating which is such an added bonus! oh, AND live music on Thursdays & Sundays :)

Stephanie makes the BEST mai tai's you could ask for... we're regulars on Thursdays and always say we're going for just one drink and end up ordering 2 and food as well.

Mark is the friendliest, most down to earth owner you'll meet.

Overall, highly recommended and don't forget to order a mai tai from Stephanie!

The food at Birch Street Bistro is great but it's nothing too special or out of the ordinary (not to mention just slightly overpriced).

The drinks were great here, and the Sangria was excellent as well as economical.

I've had the mussels, fish and chips, the burger, french onion soup, and some of the Tapas plates. While I've not been blown away by anything, I've not been disappointed either.

The atmosphere notches this place up to four stars. Great lighting and decor, occasional live music, and a great back deck.

I would recommend BSB for a nice night out.

My husband and I go to Birch Street a couple of times per month.  We went through a period where we were going every Thursday for the live music, but the music wasn't that great and there were an awful lot of very inebriated middle-aged women.  Mainly we frequent this place on Fridays or Saturdays.

In general, the food is pretty good.  Their baby arugula salad with chicken, grapes, parmesan, and balsamic is generous, and the arugula crisp and fresh.

My husband nearly always orders the mussels as an appetizer, which they serve with toasted buttered bread.  I usually have to prevent him from just drinking the butter-garlic broth straight.

Steak frites are always delicious.  I love the hand-cut fries,  their burgers are solid (if not too huge to fit into your mouth - that's what she said?), and they have a few fairly standard pasta dishes.

My husband really likes the "Cloud 9" cocktail, which is rum & coke w/ amaretto.  I enjoy their beverages in general, though I wish that had better olives for martinis than the standard pimento-stuffed ones. I like my olives fat and juicy and stuffed with jalapeno, garlic, or cheese.

The atmosphere here is beautiful.  It's exposed brick with very warm lighting thanks to the unique light fixtures.  There is a high ceiling and a mirror over the bar, which does the job of making the place look larger.

They share the courtyard patio space with Sophia's Grotto and Village Sushi and Grill, which means it can be a little hectic and noisy.  But I've eaten out there, and it's nice.

The prices are what they can get away with for New American bistro-style fare near the 'burbs.  It's fair.

My only complaints are that the food can be inconsistent and not come with items listed on the menu (i.e. seared haddock over watermelon gazpacho was actually breaded and fried).  Sometimes it's a little heavy-handed with the garlic and the salt.  The desserts are limited and mediocre at best, and if you order coffee you often find it takes forever or the espresso machine is broken.

The service is similarly inconsistent.  They never seem to have enough waitstaff and appear to have more bussers than waitstaff.  We linger over our meals what I consider to be an average amount, and maybe I'm just impatient.  But I think waitstaff should be there to clear your plates soon after you finish, and should keep your glasses full.  If my waiter doesn't come back to offer a refill after we're done with an appetizer, I don't order another drink.

Overall, they could benefit from more waitstaff and a more creative dessert menu.  But I'll keep going, because the atmosphere is lovely and the food is pretty good.

My husband and I had the best experience last night at Birch Street Bistro. We've just started exploring Roslindale since we moved here a month ago and wanted to get a feel for Rozzi center, etc. We stumbled into Birch Street, completely unaware that they don't start serving until 5 p.m. (we were a few minutes early). The owner, Mark, personally greeted us and took us out to the beautiful patio despite the fact that they weren't quite open yet.

Mark is so great. He talked to us throughout the night, giving suggestions for the area and a little history of Birch Street. He even brought my husband a sample of beer because they'd gotten on the subject of wheat beers. He seems like someone everyone can become friends with because he welcomes you into his restaurant like it's his home.

Our waiter was great and funny to boot. We didn't order anything too complex (just salads), but they were very good.

We can't wait to go back for live music!

While apartment hunting my boyfriend and I stopped in here for dinner and fell in love with Roslindale.

The server we had was outstanding! She was so pleasant and helpful. We mentioned how we were checking out the area and she gave us the run down on Rozi and was spot on.

The ambiance is great and the food was awesome. I had fish and chips and the fish was perfectly fried. The fella had a burger and he scarfed it down and the fries were great!

So happy we found a place thats only a 10 minute walk to this bistro!

    Scenario (take 2):

On a sunny Friday afternoon a buddy and I wanted a cool drink and some hot apps ... In Roslindale at 3:30, no one is open for food and drink before 5.  Reluctant because of past experiences, I went to Birch Street.  Mark, the owner was more than hospitable, opening the deck for drinks and appetizers an hour before he opened for dinner.

First, a welcoming attitude goes a long way with me.  Especially when I feel as though a business is willing to treat me like I am making a conscious decision to spend my hard earned money at their business.  Birch Street has consistently done that.  In this past instance, I felt valued as a customer.

Next, food.  As we know, I've had a few poor experiences at Birch Street.  This past visit was incredible.  Two meals:  burger cooked medium and fish and chips.  Both were outstanding.  Drinks were cold.  Sun was hot.

Birch Street has won me back.

Birch Street has long been one of my favorite places to eat and socialize ,but Mark (the owner) and his staff have taken it to a new
level with the way they handled my son and daughter-in-law's wedding.

Every detail was perfect, both Kelly (manager) and Mark made sure that this was the perfect day for both of them and our family.

Marcelo made his magic in the kitchen as always. Would also like to thank Stephanie and Michael .

For someone planing a smaller wedding no need to look anywhere else

I love this place! The food has always been top notch. And I've had some really good cocktails here (every time I've been there was a new list of creative drinks). I usually get the scallops - they used to be an entree with a great risotto, now they have a mini version as a starter, so it makes a nice light meal or I pair it with a salad. I've also had the fish and chips and a grilled salmon - both great. I only wish they had some more veggie options.
The interior is beautiful, and the patio is great. They have live music on Thursday nights, and sometimes out in the courtyard. I went in September and it was a real scene - all kinds of folks dancing around tables.

I've been to this place twice, most recently last night when trying to park and grab a drink in the South End wasn't happening. This restaurant, as well as all the cute shops in the area make me want to pull up stakes and move to Roslindale, or at least visit more often.

The Birch Street Bistro is very cozy and they have a great outdoor patio area. In addition to the standard bar, they have two seater booths near the bar and a full dining room area.

The lighting strikes a romantic tone with out being oppressively so. It's the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to linger. The service is attentive but not overbearing.

They have a good selection of beer, not exhaustive but diverse. I ordered a gin and tonic, which was huge but not watered down. Last time we had a scallops appetizer which was to die for. I almost licked the plate.
I cant wait to head back here for dinner sometime soon!

A good little spot in Roslindale Village. Nice decor and a good bar. The food was okay. This was my second time around and still wasn't too impressed. My food was missing something. The drinks on the other hand were great, I got the Mango Mojito and it was amazing.

I would probably come back just for the drinks!

Polished, affordable bistro with pretty fine food in Roslindale Village.

This handsome New American has soaring ceilings, exposed brick, lots of comfortable booth seating, and lighting that casts a warm yellow glow throughout. The space is dominated by a large granite-topped bar, the swankiest in Roslindale with full liquor, though you might stump the barman with anything obscurer than a Manhattan. Fortunately, there are eight beers on tap and ten bottled, plus a modestly-priced twenty-bottle wine list with many by-the-glass options. We select a 2003 Finca Antigua Crianza ($26), a mostly-Tempranillo red with ripe stone-fruit flavors and far more depth than its roots in La Mancha, land of forgettable Spanish table wines, might suggest.

Super-abundance is evident in some appetizers, like a fine bistro salad ($6) big enough for two: greens, grilled red onions, mild goat cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette, marred only by lifeless winter beefsteak tomatoes. Attractively served on narrow rectangular plates, marshmallow-sized mushroom/goat cheese croquettes ($10) are crunchy outside, creamy inside, with plenty of mushroom flavor, flanked by baby spinach, actually-tasty cherry tomatoes, and squiggles of syrupy reduced balsamic.

Chicken piccata ($13) is generously- but not ridiculously-sized and terrific, once we discover the pool of sauce hiding underneath its mound of penne and thin-pounded breast strips. Sharp flavors of capers, sliced garlic, white onions and lemon sing loud and clear, even better with a squeeze of extra lemon begged from the bar. Marinated lamb ($19) has excellent grill flavor, subtle bite from a mustard/vinegar glaze, and a welcome spiking of cinnamon in its side of pureed roasted sweet potato.

Desserts are huge and respectable, like Chocolate Decadence ($6), a ganache-enrobed slab of dense fudge on a cookie crust, and warm bread pudding ($7) with a lot of decent vanilla ice cream, though I'd favor another bread over the dryish baguette used here.

This is an excellent restaurant.  It is cozy and intimate, and I am not saying that because the Restaurant is small, it was designed to be a bistro.  There is a wonderful bar and an outdoor patio in the summer.  This bistro is expensive but it has the best possible food in the area.  It is Zagat rated and should put Roslindale on the Culinary map of Boston... Although there area is usually omitted from Best of Boston reviews due to some odd reason.  Perhaps other reviewers don't realize that Roslindale is in fact a neighborhood that was annexed by Boston and has not been a separate town for over 100 years.   Make this your destination and if you don't enjoy your food, I will refund your purchase with a receipt.  Just kidding...  You will automatically enjoy your food.  The only issue is parking, and I would recommend getting their early to find a coveted street spot.

Order the Filet Mignon and go for the larger portion, you will thank me.

I've been twice now, and I think the food is really good, especially for the price.  I've ordered the special both times I've been.  The first time being prime rib in a mushroom sauce served over ravioli (it's the first item under entrees on the menu, but with prime rib added) for $16.
Then last night I went and got the special, which was a lamb skewer with red onions and peppers served over cous cous which had kalamata olives mixed in.  The whole thing was presented with a chopped shallot butter sauce.  The lamb was cooked perfectly medium rare.  Oh, and all of this was only $10.  Really good!

The atmosphere is lively and the space is cool with brick walls which makes the drum sounds of the band in there nice and 'live'.  There was a 60's RB/jazz band playing standards by Cannonball Adderly, Ray Charles, and even Gladis Knight and the Pips' "Midnight Train to Georgia".  By the way, that sax player is pretty damn boss.

In addition, the wait staff has been really good (especially refilling my water often as I was really thirsty as usual) and efficient.

Update: we were back in on 11/10/07 (admitedly because Delfino was too crowded/noisy) and things continue to steadily improve. Several menu/quality improvements and we were reminded how exceptionally friendly the staff is, in addition to the beautiful space. I'm a food snob and I think the food is fine/adequate rather than terrific. The dinner salads with steak tips or grilled shrimp are a tasty and serviceable light meal.

Because it has fantastic ambience (indoors and out), a nice bar, live jazz (Thursdays and maybe other nights?) and friendly staff,  I think it's a pleasant option as an overall experience.

Did the Restaurant Week thing here, thought the regular menu was pretty tempting. My scallops and steak were really good. The creme brulee was fantastic - creamy without being too heavy. Bread pudding was really yummy (and huge), until I bit into a raisin. Ew. There was no mention of raisins when I ordered it.

I highly recommend the mango mojito - very tasty and light.

Wonderful service - server was knowledgeable and helpful without seeming pushy.

It wasn't our server's fault that a party of 20 had gotten there right before me, swamping the kitchen. Still, it was a pretty enjoyable meal. The bar was packed, as was the beautiful courtyard outside.

This is the kind of place that could be amazing.
The vibe is PERFECT for a too-cool-to-be-trendy neighborhood like Rozzie village.
The decor is unique, the service is par and the wine selection is always, ALWAYS stellar.
However, the food. Lord the food.
I don't know what it will take to get the food to match up with the rest of it, but something needs to be done. The prices are far too high for the resulting product.
I've lived nearby for about 4 years, and really wish it would settle on a style of food. A steakhouse theme would work... perhaps Tapas?
    Who knows.
I don't stop going here for drinks or dessert.
It's definitely not first on my list; what with the 2 or 3 other places in the village that have similar vibe with better food and prices.

I so want to like this place.  It is absolutely beautiful inside.  In my humble opinion, the nicest dining room and bar in the Roslindale/JP area.  Sadly, the food has been a constant disappointment.  The good news is, it isn't hard to get a table, while the other Roslindale Square eateries are bursting at the seems, this place is sadly empty inside.

I would go here for a glass of wine while waiting for a table at one of the other restaurants and for that alone.

I always give a restaurant 3 tries before I write it off for good - this one is out!

Great decor, nice bar, mediocre food.  Go for drinks, but have dinner somewhere else.

UPDATE:  Tried it again, still bad.  Watercress and endive salad had only watercress and tasteless dressing.  Spinach ravioli with roasted peppers was bland.  The only high point was the dessert, a nice bread pudding.
