First of all, I don't like writing bad reviews. I feel guilty about it. Im writing this because The L Cafe has a really nice staff, the food is priced at a decent rate, perfect for a quick, quite lunch if you work in the loop. The food is not good. I ordered a turkey burger and it was most certainly a frozen patty that seemed to be undercooked or at least it was precooked, frozen and then served to me at room temp and it was kinda soggy. I also ordered the chili and it tasted like nothing but salt, barely any flavor. I felt sick to my stomach after I ate it. I had some bottled orange juice from the cooler and that was great. My advice to the management is to train the people that work there to cook frozen patties well if that is what you want to serve to people. If you are planning to serve people chili with cheap ingredients, at least put some hot sauce in there. I suggest that whoever manages the place tastes the food, its not good.
Review Source:I walk by this place almost on a daily basis but had never stopped in. Today I did after the place I really wanted to go was closed.
L Cafe is a quaint, almost vintage type of place. I liked it. It was very quiet yet inviting. The blond behind the counter was very pleasant and waited patiently as I looked over the expansive menu.
There is  A LOT to choose from but I decided to go with someone basic. I just got a grilled cheese with fries and it was great. Granted, it's hard to mess somthing like that up but still...;) For $6, I got the sandwich, fries and a drink. That's not half bad for a place located just outside the loop.
I will say though that the portion was very small. It filled me up (I'm a petite gal) but if you're a big eater than I'd guess that the portion size woudln't be enough for you. If you're a first timer I'd definately say to ask questions prior to ordering.
I have a feeling that this place often gets overlooked due to it's location and that's too bad. I'll most certainly be back!
