We tried La Mexicana Buena Vista recently. It was a different restaurant experience in the burbs. All food is made to order, you order right when you walk in at the grill area.
We had steak taco dinners with rice and beans. Steak tacos were good but very greasy. Rice and beans were ok. You definitely get the feeling that you're eating in someone's home vs. a restaurant.
We weren't given chips but there was a huge bowl of green salsa on the table. Honestly, I don't know if I'd try it if I did get chips since that bowl pretty much sits at the table all day with
We had to wait to pay our bill, the young girls working at the cash register area didn't have our check at first and seems a bit confused or maybe distracted with other things. All in all, it was ok. Definitely
This is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant. My husband and I order the chicken burritos with avocado added ($1 extra) and they are enormous.
We go here for take out because as others have stated, this isn't exactly the best place to come and sit down with your family.
I've ordered the steak tacos before and while they were good, they paled in comparison to the burritos. Order the meal and enjoy it with refried beans and rice.
If you go here, you won't be disappointed.
They also take orders over the phone, so if you want to eliminate the wait while your food is freshly cooked in front of you, then call ahead and it will be ready for you when you get there! :) This place has some seriously amazing food.
Stopped in here again after not being here for at least a year. Still the same thing. Really good food, really horrid conditions and very little English spoken. No idea how the health department does not come in here with flamethrowers. From what I understand from friends that have been in Mexico, this place is comparably clean. But for here in the USA, they are really pushing it. Despite that, I will still go.
Review Source:After years of passing by this place, I finally stopped in! It is a butcher shop and mini-mart, as well as a small kitchen. Â Think of it like an old-school lunch counter. Lots of authentic ambiance, which I happen to love. Most speak English, so no worries when ordering food. You know you're in the right place when you see other Mexicans getting food from there. I had chicken tacos and my friend had the fajita burrito, which was MASSIVE. Â He also had horchata (rice milk infused with cinnamon) and said it was really good. Their salsa verde is amazing - it has a bit of avocado mixed in. Not too spicy, but all the more reason to heap it on. Tacos only have onion and cilantro, which is my favorite combination. I'm sure they can accomodate any request. At 9:30 pm on a Saturday night, all the other local taco places were closed, so I'm hoping this one has later hours. I forgot to ask. They have a HUGE menu with lots of exotic meats. (butcher shop, remember?) Will definitely be back.
Review Source:Definitely authentic, really delicious Mexican! It would be helpful to speak Spanish as my friend and I were the only white people eating in the place the whole time we were there. The guy who took our order spoke English though, so no worries if you don't.
All the food is made to order right in front of you, which is fun. Every table had a bowl of this awesome green salsa with a huge vat of it at the main counter. The horchata (a sweet, milk based drink) was delish and was a nice contrast to the spicy food. I got an enchilada and my friend had a burrito which she said was the best of her life.
Atmosphere is pretty dingy. It's more than a restaurant - part grocery store, part movie rental, part community center - so there's a lot going on. They do take out, and I saw lots of people come in and pick food up while there. It was fun to sit and eat however, and to soak up the atmosphere while attempting to use my faltering Spanish.
I definitely recommend it as a fun and yummy experience!
Kind of greazy, but a nice family-run business with damned good tacos. Place gets busy at lunch time.
Get an order of 3 or 4 tacos "pastor". Comes without tomatoes, cheese, sour cream...trust me, that's a good thing. But they do come with a grilled cebollita (like the bulb end of a green onion) and grilled jalapeno on the side. You are hereby advised to say "yes" when asked if you want to add on an optional pineapple slice per taco. Douse these in the house "habanero salsa" and you are good to go.
HINT: Do not park at the weirdo delapitated Bates-motel looking place next door because they are uber-anal about parking and want nothing more than to have your car towed.
