I am a regular here and absolutely love the food here. I have brought individuals here that are from Mexico and they vouched that it is truly authentic. They also mentioned that it was southern style which basically means a lot of the meat it is in a sauce. You can get chicken, beef or pork in a variety of preparations. Each and every preparation is very unique and flavorful. The barbacoa is probably my favorite beef item and the pork is a toss up between the cochinita pibil or the chorizo. If you want authentic with a world of flavor try this taqueria.
UPDATE: La mixteca is closed...too bad too cause it was awesome.
I'm normally a fan of small 'ma and 'pa restaurants but I simply could not get myself to like this one. Â The place smelled bad right of the get go. Â There was one person in line and she asked me to go sit down because my order would take a few minutes. Â As more people showed up, they started to get their food ahead of me. Â She finally brought out my order. Â If the food were good it would have been worth it, but it wasn't. Â I actually didn't finish and drove somewhere else to get some good tacos.
Review Source:I had been here 5 times and thought it was pretty good Mexican food (for MN). I would usually order "La Cecina", which was a thinly-sliced sirloin steak with grilled onions, jalapenos, rice, beans, salad and pico de gallo. The past 2 times, I haven't had the best experience. Last time my wife ordered some enchiladas, and the ingredients were sitting out. Even thought they didn't look too appetizing, she tried it anyway since I insisted and was sick for 2 days. Then, this past Sunday, we visited and ordered La Cecina, to stick to a known dish that we knew was good. Unfortunately, the steak tasted old, and this time we just returned it. When I told the lady it tasted old, she told me it might've been the oil - it wasn't only the steak that seemed to be old. She also charged me full price for the meal. I recognize it is not exactly fine-dining, but a 10% comp or something would've been nice for a meal that  was seemingly not fit for consumption. Needless to say, I won't be trying them out anymore...
