I am a regular here and absolutely love the food here. I have brought individuals here that are from Mexico and they vouched that it is truly authentic. They also mentioned that it was southern style which basically means a lot of the meat it is in a sauce. You can get chicken, beef or pork in a variety of preparations. Each and every preparation is very unique and flavorful. The barbacoa is probably my favorite beef item and the pork is a toss up between the cochinita pibil or the chorizo. If you want authentic with a world of flavor try this taqueria.

UPDATE: La mixteca is closed...too bad too cause it was awesome.

I'm normally a fan of small 'ma and 'pa restaurants but I simply could not get myself to like this one.  The place smelled bad right of the get go.  There was one person in line and she asked me to go sit down because my order would take a few minutes.  As more people showed up, they started to get their food ahead of me.  She finally brought out my order.  If the food were good it would have been worth it, but it wasn't.  I actually didn't finish and drove somewhere else to get some good tacos.

I had been here 5 times and thought it was pretty good Mexican food (for MN). I would usually order "La Cecina", which was a thinly-sliced sirloin steak with grilled onions, jalapenos, rice, beans, salad and pico de gallo. The past 2 times, I haven't had the best experience. Last time my wife ordered some enchiladas, and the ingredients were sitting out. Even thought they didn't look too appetizing, she tried it anyway since I insisted and was sick for 2 days. Then, this past Sunday, we visited and ordered La Cecina, to stick to a known dish that we knew was good. Unfortunately, the steak tasted old, and this time we just returned it. When I told the lady it tasted old, she told me it might've been the oil - it wasn't only the steak that seemed to be old. She also charged me full price for the meal. I recognize it is not exactly fine-dining, but a 10% comp or something would've been nice for a meal that  was seemingly not fit for consumption. Needless to say, I won't be trying them out anymore...

I am not too sure why everyone swears up and down about this place being an authentic taqueria. Not to hate on the MN yelpers but you guys need to come out to the west coast and eat at a REAL taqueria.

The only thing authentic about this place was the cane sugar cokes.
I ordered a carne asada quesadilla and chips w/ guac and salsa.
First off, the carne asada came from a secret compartment under the grill. This shoulve been a warning sign already. When I asked for chips, the server went to the back and filled a little brown paper bag a quarter of the way with some Costco tortilla chips. I saw the whole thing go down! The beans, sour cream and guacamole were all watered down to the point of no taste. The salsa looked and tasted like they borrowed tandoori sauce from India Cafe next door. No joke...

I took a bite out of the quesadilla and something didn't taste right. I don't know if it was the watery sour cream or rotten cheese. I forced myself to try and eat another quarter of the quesadilla and couldn't eat anymore...

I really hate to waste food but I didn't want to risk a case of food poisoning.
Take your chances if you like.

That was the best burrito I've ever had.

I had high hopes for this place.  Unfortunately, they were dashed when they popped my pork shank into a microwave.  The sauce was good, but couldn't save the dry meat.

I eat here once a month or so.  Great Tortas (I like the res or pambazo or Cubano).  Also good Tacos al Pastor.  The cecina (salt cured beef) is also a unique offer.  Regional dish from Estado Guerrero.  Horchata and Agua Jamaica also available.  Great salsas.  Have not tried the soups yet.

Prices have been inching up... still reasonable... but not super-cheap for a Taqueria.  $10 for a huge Torta.

With a liquor license I'd put this taqueria at 5 stars.

Tacos al pastor were great but the tostadas were not fresh.

My wife and I stopped into this strip mall restaurant to look at the menu on our way to eat Indian food next door.   When we walked in, the extremely friendly owner welcomed us and began explaining all of the different types of meats, how they are prepared, etc.  His explanation continued for fifteen minutes, at which point we felt obliged to try the food.  Luckily, it was a fabulous decision.  The food was the best Mexican food I have had since I lived in Tucson, which of course, has amazing Mexican food.  There are several types of chicken that have all been cooked for hours with different types of peppers and spices, that literally dissolve in your mouth.  My wife had the chicken and I had the vegetarian burrito with sauteed vegetables, which was also incredible.  Also, Coca-Cola made in Mexico, meaning it has real sugar instead of corn syrup, so delicious.  Its like travelling back in time and having the coke you had when you were twelve.
