please don't confuse this fourth Islas Marias with the much smaller restaurant up the block Islas Mari_N_as. Â This Islas Maria is part of a chain of four restaurants, with this one newly openend April 2012. Â
When you sit down, they serve you tortilla chips with three sauces... red, very spicy, green, and a fish ceviche!
Having just returned from a trip to Puerto Vallarta, I have to tell you, the whole fried Huachinango (red snapper) and the Majorra (tilapia) are excellent and larger and cheaper than those served in the fish market at PV!! The "small" mixed ceviche is a huge plate!
Man, the huge seven seafood soup is $12 on fridays, beats the $18 ones at Lalo's! Â This is our new favorite restaurant.
Mariscos. One word. That is it. It is all you need to know. It's like a secret  password that you will always remember. And your first passport to heaven. Because that is what you get with a meal here.
The decor is cheesy. Don't let it fool you. I think they decorated it that way to keep out the rif raf. AKA the hipsters who think that every restaurant has to have a 'cool' ambiance to have really great food. Like the atmosphere would make up for a crappy meal? Never. Anyways.....it looks like a Cancun Sandals resort restaurant threw up in here. Don't pay it any mind it. Keep moving. You won't even remember what the place looks like after your entree arrives.....
Immediately they bring out ceviche with fresh tortillas. Also included is green and red salsa. Slammmin'. Yep, we are on our way. Let's order the entrees.
Snapper. Full body. Head on. Crispy and salty and fresh. Super fresh. Definitely not frozen. Served with rice and veggies and beans. Around 17 bucks. Seriously?
My divine dish was a gigantic dish called pasta marinara? Not really sure about the name but here's the deal: the best fettucine I have ever had in my life. The sauce was perfectly balanced for the seafood mix which included about 20 fresh shrimp, fresh mussels, octopus, and something other seafood I cannot remember. The bowl was big enough for 3 meals. Believe you me I took it all home with me and almost licked the bowl it came in. 3 meals for 15 bucks? Amazing.
The prices are ridiculous for the portion sizes. Super cheap. But what is even more ridiculous is that the taste is so serious. And by serious I mean, clean, well-thought out, wonderful and worth every penny.
If you have a large group needing to go somewhere in the neighborhood that isn't super trendy and packed, this is the place. it is cavernous.
If your craving authentic Mexican style seafood, this is definitely the place to go! My husband and I have visited this location on numerous occasions and every visit has been favorable. Our server Lupe  was very attentive and had some very good recommendations. The crab legs are delicious and the shrimp empanadas are the best I've ever tasted!
