This place is out of control! My dad sent me with $40 to pick up subs for the family. I just wanted some roast beef and would take it from Publix or Jimmy John's and I wondered why I would need $40 for four subs. My dad is a big fan being from Philly and all. First off, the girl behind the counter meant business. She wanted all of the specifics for all four subs right when we walked in. I wasn't sure she would remember it but she did. We watched her take these huge slab of meat out and slice each fresh for our subs. She literally threw them on and just kept on going with the toppings. Then, she put even MORE fresh cut meat on top of it, tucked it in and wrapped it up like it was no big deal. Picking up the bag with four subs, I was shocked by how freakin heavy it was! The hoagies are legit, no fakes here. They did have a sign that said they were moving, luckily only across the street. There is definitely Philly flare all over this place but if you can accept the gruff nature of the employees and enjoy their charm, this place is PERFECT. Best sub I have ever had.

Laspada's is the BEST DAMN sub in South Florida. THE BIGGEST AND BEST. Watching the guys make your custom sub is a treat in itself. The bread is fantastic, the meat shaved right in front of you and the toppings, oh wow, the toppings - so many, so fresh. IT IS IMPERATIVE that you get sweet peppers on your sub!! HEAVEN!! Once you've had a Laspada, your hooked - for life. WICKED HIGHLY ULTRA RECOMMENDED!!!!!

Amazing.  Just amazing, best subs in Florida, and possibly anywhere.  I always get the Italian.  Just fantastic subs, well worth the price (which isn't bad at all).

Best subs I have ever eaten, by far! I have been going to the coral springs location for years. So I decided to try the L-B-S location to see if it was just as good as the springs location. And I was not disappointed at all. Same great subs, and service. I highly recommend this location too.

This place is always the first place we order from on my FL vacations. They make the best sandwiches ever created. I always get the monster minus pickles on white.

    AMAZING.

BTW-We phoned in an order that included four subs. They left one out and we didn't check when picking up. I called and they wrote a credit voucher that they honored on the next visit. Bummed about the missing sub but was very pleased about how easy it was to deal with them to get the credit.

    They are the best!

Laspadas (both in Davie and Ft. Lauderdale) have THE BEST subs I have EVER eaten.

The bread is warm and soft and soaks up the oil & vinegar without getting soggy. The bread is just right in the ratio of volume to fillings - there is enough mass to form a solid foundation, but it is just enough in each bite to hold the sandwich together and add a little flavor. No hard crust, no overwhelming flavor. Just right.

The meat is super fresh and SHAVED (oh yeah!!!) right on the spot. High quality, shaved roast beef just melts in your mouth.

Then, your sandwich is piled high with your standard sub toppings: cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, hot peppers, and sweet peppers. Add on salt, pepper, spices, & oil and vinegar are you are set... well.. .almost.

    Then comes MORE MEAT!

That's right. Another batch of shaved meat gets put on top of your sub and tucked in around the edges to everything stays nice and neat (until you dig in).

The result is what pretty much amounts to an open-face sub sandwich since it is packed so full. You pretty much have to eat is horizontally.

My favorites are: turkey & roast beef or "The Monster" - turkey, roast beef, & ham. Get it loaded w/everything. You can send me your 'thank-yous' later. :-)

There is a reason this place is a Ft. Lauderdale landmark. Because even after personally going here for over 15 years, it is just as good (or even better) than the first time I tried it.

This tiny joint is as enjoyable to order as it is to eat.  Huge sandwiches made from fresh and flavorful ingredients are literally tossed together right before your eyes.  As a local, Laspadas should be a staple in your choice of sub shops.  As a tourist, it is a must visit!

This place offers the second best Italian sandwich I have ever had (the first being the one at Central Kitchen in New Orleans). We have been here twice and both times were mouthwatering perfection. The bread is soft and delicious, the meat quality is excellent and the amount of food is impressive. They also have an insane offering of chip flavors and drinks. The next time you are craving an Italian sub GO HERE.

It doesn't get any better! This is my first stop after deplaning in Ft Lauderdale and my last stop on the way to the airport where I grab 4 italian Specials to take home--one more reason to fly Southwest--non-stop to St Louis. The Boca Raton store told me they would overnight a sandwich to me in Illinois, but I haven't tried that yet. I've been eating here since 1989 and they are delicious and CONSISTENT.  This is the best LaSpada store, followed by the one in Boca, then Davie, then Sample Road. It's the best sandwich on the planetBY FAR!  Once you eat here, you will never eat Subwy or Jimmy Johns again--there's simply no comparison!

This place has ruined every sandwich that from any other deli and sandwich shop.

They have the best damn hoagies anywhere hands down.

I like the pressure that is on you from the time you walk in the door til the time you make your order, you don't want to be the guy that slows down the line and impedes someone from getting their edible masterpiece.

The bread, pickles and vegetables are always fresh, the key to a good sandwich where a lot of other places fall flat on their faces is the sliced to order deli meats.

You get a meal and a show in one place, lunch meat flying from the slicer to your waiting bread, I love this place and it drives me crazy that I can't get down there often enough from Chicago.

Been coming here since I was a young man in high school.  To date, the best sub ever! they pile the meat and toppings high.  I pride myself on being a foodie, but I can honestly tell you that one of their "large" subs is very difficult to put down.  A small size does the trick.

It's a fun place to go and watch them throw the meat around.  Be patient during their lunch rush (which is everyday from like 11:30am-2pm), they get their hustle on and you'll be in and out within 15 minutes - TOTALLY worth it!

Thanks Laspadas for being a staple in my diet for all these years!

I remember coming here for the very 1st time in 1990.  Coming home from a day of bodyboarding on the beach, I was 14.  My buddy and his dad took me here.  A little place with a line of people out the door.  What is this place...?

Upon entering, it was controlled chaos.  Cash register ringing away, tip bell always going off, customers calling out orders, sub "chefs" piling on all the fixings, the meat slicing machine going at 100mph!

i don't need to go into details about the food, the pictures alone should have your mouth watering!  Bring your appetite, these subs truly are amazing!!

Take your order to the beach or to a local park.  Sit, relax, and enjoy a sub that you will crave over and over again.  I come here as often as I get to Ft. Lauderdale.

I'm sorry but I have had better... service and subs. From the time you walk in you are rushed, barely any time to read the menu (good luck to indecisive people), then they slop everything on there even when you are the only customer in the store.. what's the rush? There are no combo options so expect to spend more. It's not the best quality cold cuts so I don't understand the ridiculous cost. Like any bad waiter they smile and are courteous when they give you the bill... SMH don't understand the hype for this place.

Had a craving for a sub (mind you I'm preggers) and wasn't sure where to go. Yelp never fails. Saw this place had great reviews, hopped in the car and was NOT disappointed!

Food: Excellent sub. Honestly, probably the best I've ever had. I ended up getting the chicken salad since I can't eat lunch meat (only other option was a meatball sub and that didn't sound good on a 90 degree day). Ingredients were fresh (bright red tomatoes!) and the provolone tastes like it was sliced from a nice Italian deli.

    Large selection of chips.

Next time I'm in Ft Lauderdale - this place is a must! No place to really eat there (there is a bench with a few stools) but it was so packed there really wasn't enough room. No wait despite walking into a full house!

    LOVE this place!

Does it get better than this? No, at least not in the world of hoagies it doesn't, and LaSpada's hoagies are not only the best in the world but, true to tradition, the real, authentic thing.

Spotting a real hoagie from an imposture isn't always so simple, and often times confusion reigns between what is a hoagie, a submarine or an Italian sandwich. Such is particularly the case since Italian bread is used on all three and because there is also the Italian hoagie; generally the one most in demand.

So, basically here is what a hoagie should be, generally speaking: It's a custom, hand built-to-order sandwich filled with meat and cheese, as well as lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, topped off with a dash of oregano-vinegar dressing on an Italian roll. The Italian Hoagie is made with Italian ham, prosciutto, salami, and provolone cheese, along with all the works which was defined as such when declared the "Official Sandwich of Philadelphia" in 1992. That, by the way was a pretty darn good feat for a sandwich to pull off in a town more best known for cream cheese, street pretzels and the "Philly cheese steak" sandwich.

At LaSpada's you can get all of this for around $7.00 plus an amazing show of guys tossing meat back and forth in the prep line. The show alone is worth the $7.00.

The best approach is, though you may find a hungry hoagie starved crowd in your way, to read the overhead board, decide basically what you want, tell one of the line guys and let him guide you from there. He'll have plenty of questions for you, so be prepared and quick to answer since those waiting in line have been known to utter death threats to indecisive that are preventing them from getting their LaSpada's hoagie fix.

All in all, any of LaSpada's sandwiches, hoagie or not are the best to be found and at prices that are more than reasonable, particularly considering that you get to watch a masterfully orchestrated culinary line show for free.

Thank you god, or more appropriately thank you goddesses Andrea F., Mallory E., and Kathleen C.  I have been looking for a good italian combo since I moved to Miami and this  is it.  BEST ITALIAN COMBO IN FLORIDA!
-The meat is sliced fresh and thin.
    -The bread perfection(soft italian.)
    - Real red wine vinegar.
    -Get it with the works!
-Extras that seal the deal.  Dr. Brown black cherry and Zapp's chips.
if anyone needs company or wants to ride shotgun let me know.  I need another Sammy!

I am well aware that La Spada does not need my endorsement, but I CARE NOT!! I friggin' love this place! If I lived in this pit of doom (South Florida) I would get a job here, just so I could be close to the meat and sweet peppers. Really. Eat here.

Best subs on the planet. I miss them. =(
I wish they had one in Central Florida. I go out of my way, over three hours, to get one of these subs and I have never been disappointed. They are amazing. I think it is the best bread ever, simply amazing. Then the toppings are plentiful, and they are artfully tucked into the bread so nothing spills out. They are HUGE! The sweet peppers are really good. I order the tuna, Monster, or even the cheese. The place is excellent. We usually eat them on the beach. The workers are really fast, it is a take out place. Been eating them for over twenty years. Love them.

This may be the finest sub in South Florida. I've served witness to the Turkey and Provolone, and the Monster. I packed both with lettuce, tomato, white onions and mayo.

A 12-inch is more than anyone should eat at one time, yet it's easy to do so because the sub is so delicious. Lots of flavor, fresh bread and a great taste.

The service is rapid. These guys throw together a sandwich with lightning speed. You're in and out in a matter of minutes.

Simply put, you should go out of your way to pick one up. It's well worth the trip and you won't have any regrets.

    Ok.  Here's the deal.

    Walk in the front door.
    Don't mind the crowd.
Watch the guys making the subs.
One of them will make eye contact with you.
When he asks you if he can help, tell him what kind of sub you want.
    He'll take it from there.

Don't ask him a lot of questions (he'll ask you).
Order a sub (or grinder, or hoagie, or a hero) they don't care where you're from, their job is to make you a sandwich that you'll talk about.
If you already know exactly how you want it, tell them.
That saves time.  It also makes their lives easier.

When he's got you and he's going about the business of killin it with
what is a monumental combination of ingredients, now is the time to move over to the cashier and pay her.  Put a $20 in her hand.  She always seemed to be paying attention when I've been here, she heard what you ordered and knows how much it cost.

Then take your change and then tip.  Don't be an asshole.

Go up to the beach and sit in the sand and eat it.
Nobody you know is enjoying their life nearly as much as you are right now.

I actually considered disowning my friend when she brought me here on our LAST DAY of being on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale. Are you serious right now? You've been forcing me to make and eat my OWN turkey wraps from ingredients we got at the grocery store when I could have been ordering from here every day?? What is the matter with you?!?!?

Laspada's is just... an assembly line of guys, throwing ingredients back and forth at each other. The meat guy grinds out the fresh turkey or ham or whatever that you need, and tosses it to the bread guy, who packs it and passes it on to the ingredients guy, who wraps and chucks it over to the person at the register. So awesome.

Pretty much any deli that I have encountered can throw turkey and cheese on a roll. But I have never found a roll that was as fresh and tasty as here at Laspada's. And they have EVERYTHING you could want to add to that turkey and cheese, without it being a friggin' Subway. Lettuce, tomato, onion? Sure. Hots? You got it. Pickles? Why not! And the salt, pepper and oregano they throw on there... oh lord. I died and went to sandwich heaven.

They get extra points for blasting a radio station that was playing Flyleaf and Disturbed. These men can make my sandwich any day.

As a bonafide northern michigan boy, I have to say I honestly did not know too much about a true east coast hoagie. But thanks to my wonderful girlfriend who is from Coral Springs, I no longer have this issue. Simply put, Laspadas makes one of the finest sandwiches in the entire world, so legit people...

My order you ask? THE MONSTER (usually the full size depending on my activities preceding the purchase), which includes Roast Beef, Turkey, and Ham. I personally like to sub out the ham for salami...trust me, its quickly becoming a veteran move. Also, make sure you ask for extra peppers both hot and sweet. They are out of control at this place.

Just as a note, I do not like Mayo or Salads. That being said, my girlfriend and her best friend are obsessed with both the chicken salad and the mayo in general at this place...so for all you salad fans out there keep an eye out!

It takes a lot for me to give a 5-star to a restaurant, and this just doesn't quite make the cut, but the food *is* excellent. I really love the bread they use, and you have a little show with the meat carver throwing the cold-cuts five feet to the open hoagie.

In terms of a sandwich, I couldn't ask for anything more. Big sandwich, fresh ingredients, they get your order right, and it's well packaged to take it on the run (very limited seating inside.) It was about $8 for the sandwich, which normally is a little steep, but given the size of it I think it's a fair price.

In terms of a restaurant, I think this would be better suited as a walk-up shop, rather than the sardine-can of a walk-in. It's cramped in there, perhaps only accommodating 15 customers at a time, and there's not a clear line from ordering to checkout, so it gets traffic-jammed.

Bottom line: Excellent food, large portion, reasonable price, and once you've experienced Laspada's first hand, call in your order to save time and avoid being pressed against hungry strangers.

This is place makes great subs definitely one of my favorites.
Things to note, there is not much in house seating or parking can be tough around popular times.
Their roast beef is very rare .
If you can call ahead your order and you won't have to wait in the long lines.

I've got to give this place 5 stars; 4 for the awesome food, and one for "negative upscale" decor.

The La Spada store is nestled in the side section of a strip mall which has seen its better days, shoved up against to an excellent dog grooming shop.

Better to walk or bicycle, for parking nearby is an adventure, particularly around lunchtime. Upon arrival, you will find  "bar stools cramped against the bar with only inches to spare when a line forms", and a very busy gang of men and women making order out of seeming chaos.

Unless you enjoy crowded delis in New York City, call in your order before dropping in. Otherwise, enjoy the jostling and waiting.

Ahh! but what food! There is no sub that can attempt to equal the "Monster" with sweet and mild peppers.....makes all the rest worth it!

I've heard of the infamous subs here, and on a whim we decided to make the trek on Sunday afternoon to check it out. My boyfriend was familiar with the menu, however, I wasn't so I'd advise anyone thinking about checking this place out to look up the menu before hand since these guys are lightning fast. Plus, you don't want to be "that" guy/gal holding up the line while the veterans are trying to grab 'n go (or maybe you do). Also, the place is super tiny (bar stools cramped against the bar with only inches to spare when a line forms).

Although my boyfriend ordered the Monster, I opted for the ham and cheese (I'm sure my arteries will thank me later). I did have a bite of my bf's monster sub and it was certainly amazing. All the ingredients were fresh and came together for a great sandwich. As another Yelper suggested: get the sweet peppers. They are delicious and quite addictive.

All around the place was a solid sub shop: good food and great service. We'll definitely be back when we're in the area. I just wish they had a location further south, but those in the Boca area will be happy to know they will soon have their own LaSpada's soon.

Best place I had in all of Southern Florida. Best Sub I have ever had to date. If all places would give this much sub for the prices then the world would be a happy place.

The large hoagie is gigantic even for a big eater like myself. Nobody in my group could finish their's and most eat it later. The prices are more than a Subway, but there are many reasons for that. The peppers are what give its "je ne sais quoi ".

I know you will love it. Meat Lovers will rejoice and there is something for veggie lovers too. If you are in the area, drop everything and go.

The hoagies here are definitely worth a stop, whether you are going for something more healthy like their tuna salad, their turkey or something heavy, like the Mama Laspada or the Monster!!!  (whoo.. with names like that, how can you say NO?)

I have personally done all four of the above sandwiches and can't decide which I like most.  If you want something filling and delicious, go with the Mama or the Monster, which is packed with roast beef, salami, cheese and ham.  The Mama is your more traditional Italian.  The tuna salad is phenomenal, made with great quality tuna.  And of course the turkey is cut directly from the big block, fresh, just like all the other meats.

    Great fresh ingredients.

I have a friend who is a foodie and used to live in Philly. When I asked him about his favorite place for hoagies the first thing out of his mouth was Laspada's. They slice the meat fresh for EVERY sandwich ordered. They load the bread with meat, put the veggies on, then throw more meat on top and tuck it all in. No chance of losing it all in the first bite.

You have your choice of 8" or 12 inches, white or wheat. I don't know the truth to it, but my buddy swears they fly in their bread from Philly. It wouldn't surprise me.

    Great hoagies.

This is it.  The best subs on earth.  No, seriously.  The best.  I have had subs in New York, London and Italy.  Nothing compares to these guys.  I have been going to this joint for 15 years, and they consistently produce the best sandwich I have ever eaten.

As other reviewers have said these guys put on a little show for you when making your sub.  3/4 pound of meat will go soaring 4-5 foot down the sandwich line and land perfectly on the waiting bread.  The bread is delicious and all the meats are freshly sliced when your sandwich is made.  I have two tiny complaints.  I think that they are using slightly less meat in their subs for one, and secondly I don't like the way that they have changed the line's setup.  I'm a LaSpadas veteran, and I went in there like a rookie lost and confused in the mayhem due to the new line organization.  I was ashamed!

Be sure to get sweet peppers, as they are AMAZING here.  Be sure to leave a tip and go down to the Commercial pier to enjoy your sub.  LaSpadas + Beach = Win.

Best little sub shop ever.  It's entertaining just to watch them make the subs as they slice, toss and catch your meat.  Ah... well you know what I mean.

I'm rather fond of their Monster Sub which is exactly as it sounds.  You could take this thing to the gym and curl it.  Grab a monster, walk to the beach and chow down.

    4.5 Stars

My favorite subs ever, with plenty of the tart sweetness and spiciness that comes from the sweet and hot Italian peppers.  It's awesome going when they're super busy at lunch time because even though there's a line going out the door, the line moves fast.  They have a system DOWN at this place, assembly line style, and sliced-on-the-spot deli meats are literally thrown and caught across the assembling table.  It's organized chaos -- a well-choreographed dance of sandwich artistry.

My favorite is the Italian special.  All the subs are overstuffed, so find a person to split a 12" hoagie with.  The small (8") is too big for a normal person.

I once went here after work one time, and it was the slow period of the day for this place.  So they were super chatty and joking with me, and gave me tons of extra roast beef on my roast beef sub.  While it seemed like an okay idea at the time, it really was too much roast beef.  Besides, it didn't come close to the Italian special.  Mmm.

Tip:  You can park here for free and walk down to the beach to eat your subs, as there is no seating.  They told me that they didn't mind at all.  Or if it's during the workday, you can park across the street for free as well.

Oh, yes.  We drove from Dolphin Stadium to Lauderdale by the Sea to pick up sandwiches before we were to FLL, and you know what?  The fiance said it was worth the trip.  This is the best sandwich in town.  I can finish about 3/4 of an 8 inch sandwich.  My preferences fall to the ham and turkey combo, but you can't go wrong.  I love watching them lay out the spicy and sweet peppers.  Love the pickles on my sandwich.  The cold cuts are super fresh-cut for each individual sandwich.  Even love that they went all granola on me and you can now get a whole wheat sub roll (surprisingly good!)

We laughed when we saw a sub shop listed in Zagat's top 20 for the area.  Then, we went to Laspada and our mouths were too full to laugh.
