Service is slow and extremely uninformed. They were out of 5 different beers we asked for. What are the odds? There's really no point in offering an extensive beer selection if you can't keep it stocked. Also, the menu is mostly heavy and unhealthy fare. Not a lot to choose from unless you want meat and/or fried food. The ceviche was one of I think two semi-healthy options and they were out of it.
Live Oak has a really lovely rooftop patio, and it's a nice facility overall, but so many service related issues make for a poor experience. By the way, I've been twice, once previously for brunch, and most recently for dinner and a concert and experienced bad service both times.
I visited Live Oak on the strength of the weekly Yelp email. I saw that others recommended the beautiful setting and decided to give it a try. I really enjoyed the patio- it was lovely and dreamy and cool, as promised. It was also inexpensive, which I can always appreciate. We only had fries to munch on (not much of a bar menu to speak of) while we drank and they were quite good. I would be up for going back to try out the other offerings.
On the downside, the service was terrible. We had no idea who our server even was and it took forever to get anything. We got the sense that the staff were confused about who should be doing what and when.
The other thing to note is that this is a great place for beer-drinkers. There were at least three menu pages of beer options. I saw in some reviews that wine-drinkers would be just as happy here. That is misleading. I am a wine drinker and I ended up with a mixed drink. Not that I begrudged it, but it's worth keeping in mind that the wine choices are limited.
When I am in the mood for another low-key Friday night, I'll definitely be back!
