Review Source:So I ended up here with fellow Yelper Jennifer J. It was for a charity event to raise money for the homeless in Fort Worth. We had already given out food to the local homeless prior to showing up here. We were meeting some of her friends and we were going to find some place to eat afterwards.
The bar is a typical saloon, kinda on the dark side but with things to see everywhere you look. There was a band playing inside, as well as an acoustic set going on outside. Kudos to the band outside doing a version of the Beastie Boys "Fight For Your Right To Party". There was merchandise for sale inside and out. Clothing, photographs, beauty products, jewelry, handmade wallets (very nice), artwork and random knick knacks. I guess all had portions of their proceeds going to the Fort Worth Burrito Project. I ended up with a hand silk-screened KISS t-shirt for my brother (happy birthday!)
Beers were cheap and the music was decent and if I get the opportunity to go back and really hear some music there, I will. Very relaxed atmosphere for Memorial weekend and it's a place worth going back to.
Enjoy.
Lola's, you're so great! Initially, I didn't get a super "divey" feel from you, but of course, everyone's definition of a "dive bar" is slightly different. So I've been thinking, what does "dive bar" mean to me? What does it mean to the general public?
Google will tell me! First definition is from Wikipedia: "Dive bars generally have a relaxed and informal atmosphere...where people in the neighborhood gather to drink and socialize...may be considered to be disreputable, sinister, or even a detriment to the community."
Alright, the "detriment to the community" part is so overly grave, but I think Wikipedia's interpretation mostly captures the essence of a dive bar. A familiar, laid back, unfancy, and slightly gritty spot; good for hanging out, good for beer, good for cheer.
Well, there's more to Lola's than your average dark space serving beer and cocktails. Lola's is truly comfortable and has a pastoral presence - a sort of rural sanctuary at the edge of busy-city-7th. The service is beyond friendly without wavering  (thanks Graham), and they have a palpable stage that brings great live music within arms reach. Lola's isn't especially eccentric, it's just candidly gratifying. If it's a "dive bar", it delivers more than can be expected, and without any bleakness - promise!
