I love their pulled pork.  The fruits and vegetables are on the pricey side but worth the extra money.  The pies look amazing.

Love this place. Everything about it screams L-O-V-E!!!  Try the sugar cream pie, the pumpkin bread and the house smoked hog.  There are no bad choices.

This little market is a hidden gem in Indianapolis.  The produce is almost always local and the home cooked food is phenomenal.  The pies are so tasty and our friends/family have nothing but compliments when we bring one over.  Add in the fact that Ron is a great person and you can see why this place has near perfect reviews.  Cheers to good food and great atmosphere!

I have been coming here for a few years now. Each and every visit has been wonderful. Ron has worked magic at this little shop of wonder.

The pork plate is a tender hunk as big as one's head. The peach shake ups, served in mason jars of course, are addicting and refreshing.

The sugar cream pie, well...now this is where the trip alone really is worth it. This is one of the top 2 sugar cream pies I have ever tasted. (My Sugar Pie in Zionsville is the other) This one might just edge out the other due to the oozing, creamy, over-the-top richness. Sometimes, the crust edges can be just a tad too big but perfect other than that.

The reggae music constantly streaming and played pretty loud is like a warm embrace. It takes me to another world. The space is so welcoming and cozy.

The service is top notch. Ron is usually in the kitchen, locking that down. Up front, one might find teenage girls. I am often dubious of teenagers serving me, to be honest. Not these girls! They are super friendly, professional and knowledgeable. They really take care of any needs or questions with a true sense of graciousness.

Only the tomatoes show the price. Everything else in unmarked in terms of price. How much is the apple? How much is the pumpkin? Annoying!!! Yes it's like a farmers market. But can they post their prices?

I love this cute little shop.  This past summer, anytime I had a craving for gazpacho, this was my place to go to get fresh and high quality veggies, important for a really great gazpacho.  There's a fun selection of sodas, locally made sauces and jellies, lots of veggies, and cook plates and other items for your kitchen or dining room.  In the spring, there's a decent selection of herbs to choose from, which flourished in my herb garden this year, and in the fall, gourds and pumpkins abound in the parking lot.  I love this place.

I don't really think of this as a restaurant, rather a year-round farmer's market that serves dinner if you like.  I come here for the exceptionally fresh produce, the delicious strawberry-lemonade shake-ups and the yum pie!  I love the reggae music and the owner rocks!

I am love with this place. I will bike up from Itvington any day for some delicious pork roast or to die for pie. Not to mention all of the beautiful produce that overfills my bag for the ride back home.

What a unique place.  Local produce, imported sodas, eclectic condiments.  Chef Ron serves satiating salmon and wonderful pork sandwiches.  Don't forget to purchase a sugar cream pie on your way out--or pick one up for your next dinner party, it will be the talk of the table.  Look around at the hand-crafted wood designs, including the dining table.  Wonderful location on the Monon Trail.  It would be nice to have a place like this in Irvington.  The Chef seems to always be there and has really put his heart and soul into this place.

This was an AWESOME find on a recent trip to Indy.  A little off the beaten path for a tourist, we were excited to find what was essentially a farm stand that served a great dinner!

The menu was a bit limited-I think we managed to order everything on it between the six of us-pulled pork, salmon, cole slaw, salad, tomato & mozzarella, peach and lemon shake ups, and even a piece of pie.  Everything was great.

The open faced pulled pork sandwich is nearly a pound of meat!

We enjoyed everything sitting outside.  Most notable is the friendliness of the staff.  The hours online were posted until 9pm.  We arrived shortly after 8 to find the time on their sign was 8pm.  We were greeted in a friendly way and invited to stay for dinner, despite their closing time.  We stayed until nearly 9:30 and at no point did we feel pushed to leave.

All around spectacular-the produce for sale also looked amazing!  Check this place out!

Ok, ok. I have to confess that I drive by this place several times a week and have never considered stopping in. Truth be told I always thought it just a vegetable/fruit stand. About a week ago a doc that I work with mentioned that she was stopping by this place to pick up a peach pie for her hubby's birthday. I was surprised! This place? A peach pie? I questioned her further and she could not sing high enough praises of said establishment and its offerings. My interest piqued I came to Yelp to check out the reviews: 5-stars out the wazoo! It had to be true! I had to try it!

I bought a slice each of the sugar cream and the peach pie for my honey and I to share. Both kinds were beyond-belief delish, but I was floored especially by the sugar cream. It was slightly gooey and sooo rich! The crust for both was superb. I am a major crust connoiseur and this is a crust for the books, folks.

Next time I will be sampling some of the pulled pork that everyone here raves about, but my main goal is to have some more of that heavenly pie!!

Where am I? Oakville Grocery in Napa Valley? Treats in Wiscasset, Maine? Save the airfare and step off the Monon at 54th Street and enjoy being transported out of Indy for a truly unique experience in setting and food. The produce and dry goods were inviting.  The peach shake up (ordered lite on sugar) was refreshing. I believe the limited menu changes frequently but the open faced pulled hog ($9ish) and grilled salmon ($12ish) were generous in portion and spectacular in quality and flavor.  My goal is to break the code on the greens dressing...so far evo, cherry vinegar, cilantro, grapefruit and red peppercorn.  Looking forward to cutting the blueberry pie for bfast.

I visit LGG at least once a week for produce, eggs and whatever else interesting is in stock.  The quality is fantastic, the food is really tasty and I LOVE their shake-ups (especially the peach).

Locally Grown Gardens and their rustic signage and charming display of flowers and produce is one of those places I've been driving by for several years and have thought over and over again that I'd love to try their food some time. Glad I finally did!

Simply put, it was amazing. It was an incredible value. It was memorable (as in, I can remember what my meal tasted like and I want to taste those flavors again).

My husband and I ordered the salmon and the pulled pork and decided we'd share.  And, after reading all of the Yelp reviews about the Sugar Cream Pie we thought we'd better snag a piece of that to share as well.

We ordered the food to go on a Friday evening.  During the 10ish minutes it took them to prep the food we enjoyed the music, browsed through the fresh produce and  a small selection of interesting grocery items and housewares that are likely to be featured in the pages of Real Simple or Martha Stewart Living.  When the food was brought out to us it was thoughtfully packaged so that when we got it home it still looked incredible and wasn't leaking all over the place.

The flavors were incredible. Everything was well-prepared & tasted super fresh!  We didn't come close to finishing the pulled pork or salmon, but it did not go to waste. I'm fairly certain those leftovers were gone before the weekend was over!

Owner Ron Harris knows what he is doing.  He has created an incredible atmosphere, is serving awesome food, and is offering these things at a really reasonable price.

Don't judge Locally Grown Gardens by their website (which simply doesn't do this place justice)...judge them by their consistent five-star Yelp reviews!  Trust me, they are well-deserved.

How to feed your friends and your ego - wait until you are invited to a friend's house for dinner.  Offer to bring dessert.  Insist on bringing dessert.  Then go to Locally Grown Gardens and purchase an entire sugar cream pie.  They'll put it in a nondescript box which allows you to unleash an amazing sneak attack...when the host/hostess asks what is in the box, casually say "oh, just some dessert I picked up".

Then be prepared to bask in glory as the host/hostess opens the box and flips out over how great the pie looks. Be prepared for lots of questions about what kind of pie it is, where did you get it, did you have to order a whole pie in advance, etc?  Then be prepared to bask in even *more* glory when everyone tries the pie after dinner.  People will want to know how you found out about this place, do they have other pies...you will look like a super cool "in the know" type of person.  And at least one person (if there is enough to go around) will have a 2nd piece of pie.

$16.50 for an entire pie, but compare that to taking a bottle of wine.  Same diff, more or less, and anyone can bring a bottle of wine.  But not everyone can bring an amazing pie. You *will* be invited back.  Trust me.

We stopped by while passing through Indianapolis based on the Yelp reviews.  It was a little smaller than I expected but between the fruits, pies, prepared foods and specialty items, they certainly had some great stuff.  We picked up some peaches, grape tomatoes and a lemon shake up for the road.  The prepared foods looked great but it was a little early for lunch.

It's a bit pricey and we didn't see anything actually grown locally but the quality and freshness were fantastic.

I am lucky enough to live within walking distance to Locally Grown Gardens! They have a great selection of produce and FANTASTIC pies. Before moving to Indiana I had never heard of Sugar Cream Pie, I actually only ended up getting it because they were out of the apple. But---it was fantastic! I love the crust it's a little thicker than most pie crusts and not too sweet.

Ron, the owner is very friendly, he and his staff accommodated a group of friends to celebrate my birthday. Everyone was impressed with both the Pulled Pork sandwich and the Salmon. Another great treat is the assortment of unique sodas--don't miss the Sasparilla!

    Sugar creme pie. 'Nuff said.

But seriously, Locally Grown Gardens is a tiny little slice of what I imagine the perfect world to be like. Great local food, awesome service, good prices, and a whole assortment of tasty sodas! The fresh vegetables are pretty much whatever is seasonal, and there's always some jammin' reggae playing and a fire out front. If it wasn't almost 4 in the morning, just thinking about this place would have me on my way!

Having heard so much about Locally Grown Gardens and at the urging of a bevy of roommates, all of us piled in my car one evening and headed up for dinner. It looks like a roadside produce stand, but inside there's so much more. Produce, jam, food, drinks...everything to make a wonderful Indiana evening.

When we went we had the choice between salmon and BBQ pork sandwiches. I got the sandwich, thinking it would be shredded pork on a bun. Nope. Huge, juicy pork haunch on thick texas toast-style bread. The meal on the plate was as big as my face and so delicious.

The salmon was as good as any I've had on the coast -  flaky without being dried out, with a delicate flavor that wasn't too "fishy" like salmon can sometimes be. The only drawback is the fact that with the seating situation you might have to hunt for a place to eat your meal. Other than that, a little pricey but overall a great destination. I'll be back soon for pie.

Unreal cuteness. Beautiful, local produce. Jams. Honey. Every beverage in a glass bottle. Community table. Reggae music. Sugar cream pie. Delicious looking eats.

While it may seem all over the place, the above makes for the perfect spot to grab some lunch or snag a seat and indulge in a slice of truly dreamy sugar cream pie, which I recently compared to eating the most delightful Krispy Kream in pie form.

The owner Ron is extremely laid back and very cool, so grab yourself a couple of bucks and a smile and take in the goodness that is Locally Grown Gardens...it sure is a gem.

I made a long-awaited return visit to Locally Grown Gardens the other day after spending 15 minutes listening to my friends rave about their oranges.  Seriously, special oranges?

The oranges are from Citrus River, Florida.  They have seeds - they are non-GMO -
and a lighter, sweeter, less acidic flavor than the oranges you might get at Fresh Market.  I got a grapefruit which was less sour than the usual grapefruit.  Then some eggs from local chickens that are fed bugs (these eggs have more yellowy and richer yolks than vegetarian chickens, which are fed corn).  A pomegranate ginger beer.  And a free reggae CD which we promptly listened to in the car.

Their selection is too small for me to do all of my grocery shopping and it is pricey (the other day I paid $24 for a few oranges, a couple of grapefruits, a head of cauliflower, a few stalks of asparagus, a ginger beer and a lemonade), but still I find myself going back for the quality and the sheer pleasure of soaking in the delightful vibe which reminds you to slow down and smell the flowers.

What's not to love? The familiarity of the vintage outdoor seating and rustic picnic tables feels as if you're visiting a great aunt.  All I needed was a basket to gather the goodies from the garden.

It was my first visit with my youngest, and as we decided upon dinner (open faced pulled pork sandwich, fresh greens with balsamic & apple pie), her eyes glazed over the selection of bottled pops to choose from.  She opted for the America's Honey Creme soda.

As we sat down to take in our surroundings; a whiff of smoked pork, fresh herbs and beautiful pansies, I couldn't resist adding a fresh tomato after seeing a plate delivered to another table.

The sandwich was a giant portion, plenty for two to share, although my daughter made it clear her interest was in the pie. The balsamic was the best I've had, and freshly ground peppercorn was the perfect compliment to my salad.  I love that despite the casual setting, we were served with actual silver ware and plates.  They do offer FREE water & cups outside, a nice touch that was taken advantage of by a few diners.

Reggae in the air and a Monon Trail active with families, bicyclists and people walking dogs, added to the charm of this little gem.  Their shelves are stocked with fresh baked breads & pies, coffee, spices, vegetables & fresh herbs that would make for a wonderful gift basket, or a splurge for yourself.  If we weren't stuffed and taking home leftovers, I might have stayed to do a little shopping, but have more reason to visit again soon.

Ron Harris has created a world that I want to get lost in - a world with purple asparagus, oozing slices of sugar cream pie, friendly smiles and reggae music. A world where time disappears and rosemary grows to over 18 inches.

On this particular visit, I found myself in the stand's "library" for a work meeting. The cozy/semi-private setting was perfect for an afternoon of work. Better yet, Ron made us feel right at home - as usual. I would have to say the highlight of the afternoon was when a little girl rolled up on her bike with the most cheerful greeting, "Hiii Ron!!"  Even she gets how cool this guy is.

I have only bought produce here, but it's quite an experience to visit. I would not categorize this as a farmers market - more a farm stand, or a quaint corner store. The prices are pretty high, but not unreasonable. I enjoy the diversity of their products, especially specialty products like tea, honey, and vinegars.

I haven't had the pie yet, don't scream at me, but I'll get there someday.

Honestly, out of every farmer's market I've been to in the US this is my favorite! Not that I am a farmer's market guru, but I always try to visit them when I go to different cities. I live right down the street and go for fresh fruits & veggies, the cold drinks, and I love to get my summer herbs and other edible plants here. The tomatoes and green peppers I bought last summer and planted were a wonderful variety! My last favorite part (I could go on..) is that they have all of those excellent cookbooks in the front eating room.

    Also--really, I mean they blast reggae--I dig! :)

Honestly fresh, honestly local, honestly priced; welcome to what I consider one of the best local 4-seasons farmer's market of Indianapolis, if not all of Indiana.

I really, truly enjoy this place for the always fresh, in-season produce and eclectic specialties selection.  Like most of us, I heard about Locally Grown Gardens through word of mouth and decided to check it out.  I am so glad I did.  LGG has some neat stuff that you've never heard of and all the things you might expect from a fresh farmer's market.  Chef Ron makes some of the best slow-cooked pork I've ever had, hands down.  He also has some interesting and delicious gourmet/botanic sodas for your sweet refreshment (I recommend the Fentiman's cola variety), not to mention some mighty fine pie that's always up for servin' (try a slice of the Sugar Creme!!).

I appreciate this establishment's service so much and I applaud what they have done for Meridian-Kessler: year-round local eatins and darn good ones at that.

I can see why this place has consistently high reviews.  I love it!

My boyfriend brought me a piece of pie from Locally Grown Gardens on Pi Day (3/14... dork), and it was delicious.  Yummy apple for me and sugar cream for him.  We loved our pies, and I can't wait to try some others when they are in season.

We stopped in this week while walking the Monon and looked around the shop.  It was a really great place to pick up local and Midwestern items that you won't find anywhere else.   We looked all over the shop, and then decided to grab a couple of their glass bottled sodas.  We enjoyed them on the seating thta has been set up overlooking the Monon trail.

All in all: great pie, cute shop, and great fresh looking produce.

Locally Grown Gardens is a "year round farmers market" and eatery owned by Chef Ron Harris, who runs the joint and bakes the best damn sugar cream pie you've ever put in your face.

Actually, let's be honest, he makes a lot of the best damn [insert food here] you've ever put in your face. Along with the above picture pulled pork, you can get the "other thing on the menu" salmon salad (another Garden-goer had ordered this and it looked amazing, but I wasn't going to get all up in his grill with my camera), various baked goods depending on the season, produce from around Indiana, a well-stocked root beer collection, a selection of oils and vinegars and honeys and syrups and and and-basically everything stocked in this small, repurposed service station is the best of what it is. You can even grab a bundle or 4 of firewood for your next backyard campfire.

Locally Grown is right around the corner from my house at 54th & the Monon, which is at once awesome and dangerous. It's handy for great local produce if I haven't made it to a farmers market lately, but I basically want to spend all my money there and just have Chef cook for me all the time. I would also like to own everything in his kitchen/dining corner of the market, including his dining area/library/sun room.

If you're in the south Broad Ripple area and you've not made it a point to stop in to LCG, get thee to there. If you haven't had lunch or dinner yet, do so. Enjoy the reggae that Chef Harris enjoys, and chill out in the sun room and eat what he has for you. It is good. It is all so so good.

Small menu, but everything is perfect. The sugar cream pie is worth the trip alone.

The general feel of everything is great, and it is so very relaxed. There is normally only one table unless the weather is nice, then there will be two picnic tables outside. Don't be fooled, this place is the real deal.

Last note - great place to sit by a bonfire, split a six pack with a friend and catch up.

This honestly is one of the best places I have ever been.  It is a charming concept - a small farmer's market located in an old gas station and has so many wonderful touches. The scrubbed pine communal table with candle pillar chandelier and wood burning stove, the coolers full of old school glass bottles of every kind of soda you can imagine, the fresh produce and baked goods and the local products like honey and maple syrup.  The best part though - a wonderful chef who makes fresh, tasty dishes to serve up to shoppers.  On our visit today, they had a hog roast and offered open faced pulled pork sandwiches, salmon dinner with field greens and 2 different kinds of pie - sugar cream and honey crisp apple pie.  The pulled pork sandwich was HUGE, the meat just melted in your mouth and while smothered with a ton of BBQ sauce (so, if that isn't your thing, be sure to order it on the side), it was still delicious.   And at only $9, a fabulous deal!  We got the apple pie and the crust was just how I love it - thick and doughy.

I could easily see hanging out at this place with friends and in nicer weather, they have tables out from and on the side overlooking the Monon Trail.  But even in the chilly weather, it felt homey, had a wood burning fire outside so that wonderful smell filled the air and though we had to sit at the table inside in our coat, hats and gloves, it didn't take away from the experience at all.  They are open late too - 9pm, I believe which would make a great spot to hang out after a day in Broad Ripple.  Thanks, Indy, for serving up such unique experiences and thank you, Locally Grown Gardens for your dedication to local, fresh and flavorful!

To quote my fisherman friends, I'd say this place "is puttin' on a clinic" in simplicity and quality. Two salmon dishes, pork from a hog, two kinds of pies, a refrigerator full of soda exotica. Add locally grown seasonal produce, amazing music, a small library, perfect and simple ambiance. Wonderful in it's comfortableness.

I have tried both salmon dishes and prefer the one accompanied by slaw, but both are amazing. The sugar cream pie is the best I've ever had. One evening, the owner brought a plate full of cut-offs from just-baked pies out for us after dinner. Just because we were there. So, so good and thoughtful.

Been just a few times, but I love this place.

How did I go this long without reviewing this place? I've been loving on it for over a year now. I moved downtown and rarely got back up here. Then, a fortuitous faulty car battery plucked me and dropped me off right in front of this place last week. Rather than run heavy stressing circuitous moments inside a bland office, I ventured over to have peach. Lo, I'd have / want so much more.

I've got a thing for curious colas / special sodas & reconstituted gas stations. Local Hog Roasts. Lemon shake ups. I've got a thing for fine plates & antique silver. I've got a thing for cedar family dining tables. I've got a thing for large East Asian rugs. I've got a thing for "chef owned, chef operated." I've got a thing for baskets of berries, samples of watermelon upon greeting, chairs by books and alpine ridge-like homemade seasonal pies. I've got a thing for Locally Grown Gardens.

I'm on a mission to try every soda. I won't list them all here, so far though the highlight is the Fentiman's Dandelion & Burdock.

Then the ish got serious when I slated a lunch meeting here for the pulled pork sandwich. Good lord that's: molten mounds of sauce, heaps of pulled just roasted shoulder atop a texas toast white bread, plated on a fine square, inch-lip & flat white plate with an antique fork.

Am I in Provence? Am I at that farm-to-table seaside resort in Uruguay I saw on No Reservations? No, I'm in my hometown on 54th Street & The Monon.

A meal that can humble me, sooth me, inspire & excite me all at once is rare. It's all happening... here at Locally Grown Gardens.

I don't even know where to start on how in love with LGG I am.

FOOD: pig roast bbq sandwich, fresh florida citrus in the winter, peaches & watermelon in the summer, apples in the fall.... giant asparagus (green, purple & white), gorgeous cauliflower, the best damn cooler of vintage and unique sodas in the entire city- e.g. Cheerwine, Bubbleup, Sioux City, Fentiman's cola-- fresh baked breads, apple pie (better than sugar cream-- not such a fan of that one), olive oils, vinegars, mustards, that bbq pulled pork sandwich!!!!  and sooooo much more.

ATMOSPHERE: great sitting area with all the best cookbooks. firepit. picnic table. or just sit on the grass under the tree shade!  just a laid back, love the world, take it easy, dont sweat the small stuff Bob Marley hangout.

SERVICE: Wonderful owner. super nice employees.

    XOXOXOXO.

    Also dog friendly.

Right at the Monon Trail and 54th street, a real gem Indy's lucky to have!
