Great service even during busiest hours, manager took care of us when we couldn't watch a ravens game due to that most seats close to a tv were taken. She made room right in front of the projector screen and got an awesome view. The food was great especially the chili. Great place to watch sports just remember to get there a little early.
Review Source:I had always heard really good things about Looney's, but we went & the food was really bad. Â The chicken fingers tasted like frozen ones from a package, the mussels were over steamed & then white wine & butter were placed in a bowl on the side, & the chicken nachos were abominable. Â It is a great looking sports bar though - plenty of tvs & beer.
Review Source:Just went here on Monday for lunch (congrats to my neice for graduation!) This was where she wanted to go for lunch - they have Crab Pretzels here which are her favorite - they tasted great BTW... I recommend you try it!
Good food (for this variety), and the service was very friendly. I know we had a party of 7 and they took very good care of us. Located in a new outdoor shopping area, so lots of free parking.
I would give this all 5 stars for the service and how everything came out fast, but I will give it only 4 stars because everything was salty (I felt "salted" afterwards), but maybe that's more of a statement about this "type" of food, rather than this particular venue. This was a great place to get some good "bar food" and meet up with friends for cold beers or catch a game..or both
Sorry my experience here was not so stellar. To begin, the waitress had the sniffles and held a Kleenex the entire time taking our order. It really grossed me out. I ordered the Crab Dip to start which came out with tons and I mean tons of shredded cheese unmelted on top. I just knocked it off, and tried to get to the dip. Sadly, the dip was little crab and a whole lot of cheese. Then it was served with cold French bread. Moving along to my Fish and Chips. My poor little fish looked like it had been pounded flat. It barely had any meat and the batter was flavorless. I will say the sweet potato fries were good.
The menu does look pretty good. Maybe I just ordered the two bad things on there, but doubt I will return.
The wings and the mound o' fries are the best! This is my go to place to watch a NFL games on Sunday when I want to trip and have hang with the fellas. It's your typical sports bar that gets crazy crowded if you don't get there in ample time to find a table top or spot at the bar. This past season with the Ravens making their mark towards total supremacy in the league the place was always packed. Go Ravens! I tell you one thing Looney's is always packed with the ladies during football season! That is another one of the main reasons I come back on Sundays. I'm looking to sack me a winner!
Come and check out the spot. The bartenders are all cool and friendly. They have some hot servers too! Just be careful on which ones you talk to and get friendly with since half of them date the security dudes there. You know big swoll dudes get a little jelly when you hold an extended conversation with their girl. LOL. Mainly because they don't comprehend that well. I'm kidding...just a little bit!
Looneys Maplelawn how i love you on football Sunday's
Looneys has..idk over 200 tv's, I've never had anything from their menu that wasnt delicious & their drink specials are great! They have drink specials every single day of the week, how can you complain about that? I always tend to get their wings, hotty hot & honey old bay (amazeee) their fries are also pretty much my favorite fries ever. I literally have no complaints.
BTW this Maple Lawn location is huge!
Went here for lunch for an office holiday get together. The place was not too crowded and noise level wasn't too loud. I was sitting in the dining area right next to the bar area. I thought that the service was fine and the area was clean. However the food was way overpriced and definitely not what was described in the menu. Paid $13 for a 'Twisted Filet' sandwich that was supposed to be a fillet minion cut in pretzel roll. The meat that I was served was the toughest piece of meat that I've had in years! I took the meat out of my sandwich and had to use a knife and fork and I STILL had trouble cutting the meat!!! I know pubs aren't well known for fine cuisine but this was absolutely ridiculous. I will not be going back
Review Source:This place only attracts those stuck in the suburbs whom are too lazy or worthless to go to a respectable location. Â The mix of people is impressive; under age kids, unemployed 20 and 30 year olds living with their parents, old women drinking wine. Â All have one thing in common: trash. Â This place is terrible, and if you are unfortunate enough to go there when there is a live "band", you're in for a night of defening noise. Â Go as the DD only, it's good for people watching.
Review Source:I've been to pretty much every location, the Fulton location might be my favorite because its HUGE! I've actually sat at a table with 15 friends before all Sunday watching football. It was one of the best time's I've ever had. They have so many TV's with every game on its hard to focus!
The food is pretty good, I'm a little obsessed with their wings - honey Old Bay is so good, garlic parm is the bomb. Sunday's they have $5 crushes in pretty much every flavor you could imagine and they're pretty strong. The service is pretty good, there are so many people in there on a Sunday I was actually surprised our waitress was as attentive as she was.
Best place to spend football Sunday's, hands down!
I have been here a handful of times and each time I have felt like it is a meat market of some sort. Â The food is average or below as far as pub food goes. Â The crowd seems to consist mainly of older men staring disrespectfully at any female in site (at least in the bar area). Â The interior is dirty and dated. Â The service is also average or below. Â My husband was served the wrong entree and the server acted like he should just eat it anyway. Â The beer selection is lacking considering the competition in the area. Â On more than one occasion, I have ordered certain beers and they have been out:( Â I suppose this would be a good hangout to watch sports, but even then, I think there are better choices around. Â Unimpressive overall.
Review Source:Came here for the first time with some coworkers. They have really good happy hour specials including draft beers and appetizers. The atmosphere was really nice and spacious. The service was great and we all had a good time. The food was really delicious and at a decent price. Looney's has definitely become my favorite happy hour spot and I'll be returning more frequently.
Review Source:Its an ok bar for wanting to hear a local band. Food is ok, again simple bar food. Salad was pretty good. Crab dip is ok, not the best I had, but ok.
I think for such a popular bar, charging a cover at 9:30 PM in the amount of $10.00 is pretty silly and I know it turns some of my friends away to attend Looneys some nights.
I decided to have a birthday dinner for my self back in January, called and had a reserved table up front by the band. Well we ended not getting the table I reserved, waited another 20 minutes and was stuck in the back room away from the band. Kinda bummed about that and most likely wont do another big group dinner here again. Apparently my reserved table was sat with customers by one of the hostess.
Looks like perhaps they are listening. New high top tables were nice and new carpet overdue. Hopefully management will stay on top of the maintenance.
Talk about a victim of your own success. Looney's has always been Looney's since day 1, OK service, decent bar food, loud and crowded. Last night might have been my last time.
1) The place is FILTHY! Look down from the 1000 TV's and the booths are all ripped and the carpet hasn't EVER been cleaned!
2) Fish in my Fish & Chips was one large piece fried in dirty oil. Dirty place, dirty kitchen?
3) I read one review that was spot on, the staff just seem to care about service or the way they look. Servers, learn what's on tap or bring me a list. "I don't know" isn't acceptable.
Since they have been busy since day one, I can only assume that they are making money hand over fist. How about putting a little back into the business. I have always liked Looney's for what it is, would it take much to reinvest back in the place?
It's loud, the food is ok (salty and fatty typical bar food), but overpriced, and there are way too many TV's. Â To be fair, I hardly ever like sports bars, which is what this is- but I do like Irish pubs, and this place is really stretching to call itself that.
Go here for typical bar food and an awkward mix of drunk kids and middle aged people who are annoyed by them.
Decent enough pub for large or small parties. Â Plenty of bar seating and fairly clean area.
The bartender didn't know his beers and didn't have any recommendations for our party. Â Definitely not a place known for it's drinks.
The menu was mostly finger food of burgers or chicken sandwiches with fries. Â There was a live band, nothing special, playing a few songs while we were there.
The food is amazingly mediocre. It is not bad, but it is not any better then anywhere else. It does; however, cost more then most other places.
They are 3 miles from the house and it is not worth the trip. That is so sad. In fact I will drive right past them to get to probably the worst Ledo's I have been too (which ain't bad).
The prices are really out of line with the quality of food. $9 for a burger is not terrible until you realize it is a piece of way over cooked meat between 2 pieces of bread; period. They will put lettuce, tomato, onion, etc on it for you for a nominal charge of $.50 to $1. Mustard and ketchup are free.
The drink prices are pretty bad as well. Way out of bounds for what they pour. As everyone has said it is f*ing loud and the crowd is not worth hanging with.
Most of the times I have been there I have had decent service. So that is good.
I noticed reading through the reviews that the closer one lives the worse the reviews get. Fascinating.
Go somewhere else.
Not a bad spot for drinks and food. The location is huge and has enough TVs to fill a Best Buy. Happy hour prices are available even if you're not sitting at the bar too! The food here was decent, but not outstanding. My friends have told me that the seafood at Looney's is pretty good, but I didn't have a chance to try any :-. Â
Anyways, if you're looking for a place to just meet friends and have some drinks, this place isn't too bad. They've got a decent selection of beer on tap with some local microbrews available as well.
Ugh. On recommendation I went to experience the wings. I was very optimistic by the variety of wing choices. Perhaps because I went on Wing Night Monday (.50 per wing) is the reason they rolled out the worst wings I've ever had. I had 6 garlic and 6 old bay. Very little meat and cooked beyond recognition. Very disappointing.
On to the service. 2 stars out of 5. Waitress delivered fries 10 minutes before the wings, checked back only once right after the wings were delivered. Empty glasses never refilled. Again disappointing.
Highlight of the visit was the beer list. Great variety on tap!
I'll visit once more before writing this Looney's off completely. Perhaps it was an off night.
I live in Columbia, which is not too far from Looneys, but I still manage to forget about it - so every time I rediscover this gem I am pleasantly surprised. Don't get me wrong, this place isn't forgettable for most people, proven by the number of people who pack this HUGE location every time I am there. I've gotten the crab melt and 'the bomb' there and have enjoyed both meals. 'The Bomb' consisted of steak on top of a crab cake on a pretzel roll. I got a side of sweet potato fries to complete the meal. Boy was it delish! Up until my last visit there my usual was the crab melt as it was tasty as well and there's nothing I love more than cheese and crab, but I'm glad I strayed from my usual and tried 'The Bomb!'
The atmosphere is fun, but very loud and crowded. There was a band playing late 80s and 90s music which gave it more of a bar atmosphere, but the restaurant is so huge that we didn't even really see the band, we only heard it!
I'm a repeat fan of Looney's - whenever I make it to Fulton :)
Pretty sure I came here on a slow night, but I liked it.
The ideal suburban neighborhood watering hole. Â Countless flat screens around the bar and seating area. I can't imagine a better set up to watch a game. The servers are quick and friendly. The bartenders, a little smug but mixed a decent drink. Didn't get to eat anything myself, but everyone kept raving about their fries. And it seems like other yelpers approve of the menu.
So here's the deal with the crowd. They all knew each other. I'm not from Columbia but was meeting up with some people that live in that area. This isn't a place you would enjoy too much unless you were a local. With that in mind, if you are a local, or want to go out in a big group, I can't see why this wouldn't be the place to do it.
They have a DJ at night playing the latest jams (no mixing, just song after song). Some people even got down on the dance floor when the mood striked. Considering suburban bars aren't really my scene, I enjoyed myself here. But then again, I went on a slow night. Maybe this place gets intolerable on the weekends?
I only come here for the food. And every time my girlfriends and I come, we always get some sort of combo of the exact same things...
The Honey Old Bay Wings - absolutely delish.
The Crabdip appetizer
The ahi tuna tacos (3 per order. And they're filling)
And if it's in season, get the mussels with the butter/wine sauce
The crowd is questionable... not exactly where I would chose to party on weekends. But on a weekday night after work - grab a booth and it's a great place to grab drinks and bar food with friends. Only complaint is that service can be a bit slow at times.
I live right down the street from Looney's so every six months or so I come to Looney's to remind myself why I only go to Looney's every six months.
Here's a list on what you're sure to encounter any time you go to Looney's
* Women (both staff and customers) about 20 pounds to big for their clothes and pouring out all over the place.
* Over aggressive bouncers who feel like they are part of an elite strike team... Seriously  I'm a well dressed thirty year old I'm not at 17 year old trying to cop my first drink a bar
* Overwhelming noise in every directions sometimes is just a dinning room so loud you can't hear yourself think and sometimes it's a local band so bad I think they must be paying the bar to play there.
* Food that screams crappy bar food from miles away. Their southwest burger is just a burger with barbeque sauce. I could get a better meal at TGI Fridays.
The Best thing about  going there is when I realize it will be at least six months before I talk myself in to giving it another try
Looney's is great. This location happens to be the only one I've been to due to location, but there are currently two others, and one will be opening very soon in College Park.
It's a sports bar with an irish theme- which it only semi pulls off, but really, who cares when the fries are that damn good? So food is basically burgers and bar food with some standard local specialties (crab cakes, that kind of thing). All of it is pretty good. The treadmill will love you the next day though. Beer selection is extensive, the bar is busy most evenings and weekends/game days get nuts. They often have live music going, and open their second bar during peak times. There's a small dining area tucked in the back corner for people who would like things a little quieter, or for a family meal. Patio seating is available too.
Expect to be carded as soon as you walk in if you show up a little later in the evening. Service in general is okay. Really, it depends on when you are there. I've never had a bad experience per se, but it can be slow when things are busy, or when it's an off time and the place is staffed lightly. Everyone has always been friendly and professional every time I've been there though.
I noticed that no one who has reviewed Looney's has had their Crab Club. Oh...my...goodness. Looney's loads on the crab in this sandwich and tops it off with melted swiss and bacon on a pretzel roll. Â
As a segway, I came to Looney's about a year ago randomly as an in-between meeting place for me and my friend. Thank you, google. I've been coming ever since ONLY for the Crab Club. I live in Chicago now and must get my crab fix. Short of going to Baltimore or the Eastern Shore, here I am in middle of nowhere Scaggsville/Maple Lawn/Fulton (whatever the heck the name of the town is. Even the waitress didn't know).
Back to the Crab Club. Seeing that it was 'Market Price', i was a little scared. I expected this mound of deliciousness to be about $20 or a little more. Â $12.99, what?! You can't beat that for what you get. At first bite, jumbo lump crab just oozes out of the side of the sandwich and onto the plate. I thought that the bacon may overpower the crab, but no, it went so well with it and the swiss cut the bacon a little bit. It is a meld of crab/bacon/cheese goodness in your mouth with the chew of the soft pretzel bun.
A couple times I tried to branch out and try other things. I failed. I may have tried a few wings. They were good. I tried the crab dip, which came out cold and too cheesy and not enough crab. It was sort of gloppy gross. But I always couldn't bring myself to order something other than the crab club as hard as I tried. BTW-I like the consistency of the fries, but they were bland.
Beer selection is great, Heavy Seas, Stone, smaller obscure microbrews. They have great happy hour specials. I like it for the sports bar that it is. I can't speak for the quality of the other food that other reviewers have encountered. And I probably won't because I will probably lower my star rating if I do. Why ruin a good thing?
I came here for lunch a few days ago to meet with a professional colleague to talk business combined with some socializing. Â It's a pretty decent sports bar with tons of flat screens everywhere. Â The seating is ample and the atmosphere is nice...for a sports bar.
The food is another story. Â I really don't have high expectations for bar food but I was a tad disappointed. Â The sandwiches are nice and big but they make sure the meat (in my case, chicken) is bigger than the bun so you have the illusion of this HUGE sandwich. Â In reality, it just makes it messy to eat. Â
The french fries were also just about cold by the time they came out to the table. Â They would have been good fries but there isn't a french fry in the world that tastes good cold.
The waitress was friendly and attentive. Â She was certainly working hard.
i would almost give this place 4 stars except the food wasn't really hot. That would have been nice.
The first time I came here was around 7PM on a weeknight. They were carding at the door and since I didn't have any ID on me I wasn't permitted to even sit in the dining room and order food. I can understand carding for the bar area, but to not let someone in the dining room this early on a weeknight seemed kind of ridiculous to me.
My friends like this place so I gave it another shot and remembered my ID this time. We were seated in the dining room next to a family with 2 crying kids. The staff were happy to move us across the dining room when we asked for a different table.
Our server Natalie was very friendly and attentive. Even though the menu noted that happy hour specials were only available in the bar area, she still gave us the happy hour appetizer and beer specials. We liked all of the food we ordered -- fried shrimp appetizer, pot roast sandwich, and taco salad. Portions are very generous but the food is nothing extraordinary.
The atmosphere is nice. This is a great place to catch a game, there are lots of nice TVs all over the place. You can get a good view no matter where you are seated.
Came here to watch a college football game with about 10 people. They wouldn't turn on our pregame (which was a national game, on ESPN) before some D1AA team had finished getting blown out. They have a schedule they claim they must follow - which is fine, but I could have done without the attitude and threatening to be thrown out for asking twice when soberly asking when the game could be turned on.
Food was pretty decent bar food, venue is very nice, service was okay, but man did they rub us the wrong way. Maybe we just caught her at a bad moment, but I felt like our spending a few hundred bucks was an inconvenience. Rating is based on my assuming she was having a bad day.
I live very close to Looney's, and consequently have been going there since they opened. Â When they opened, I would have given them 3-4 stars, and in another month or so, I might revisit this review and take away another star.
Service is going downhill FAST. Â Food quality is also teetering on the border of "ok, it's a bar, it's not haute cuisine", and "you want me to eat THIS?".
Looney's is ALWAYS loud, even during the day. Â Not a good place to go if you want to have a conversation. Â They do have a less-noisy back room, but they close it at 9pm. Â They used to have video games for kids to play, but have taken those out. Â My kids hate going there now.
Looney's is great if you just want big TVs and a drink in your hand though. Â Great place to watch games, but eat before you go. Â On the plus side, it's clean, the bathrooms are clean, and some of the bands are good.
There is outdoor seating, but it is usually blanketed by cigarette smoke.
Friday night. Band was okay. Female bartender ignored the girls, but was happy to help the guys. The male bartender was really nice. Reasonable prices. They take your card when you start a tab. Only three types of white wine but the Pinot was adequate. Clean bathrooms. A good mix of all age groups. Tons of TVs with all the sports on.
Side note: my friend was drinking Red Label and wanted it in a slightly larger glass then a shot glass because he sips it (yuck). He asked them to reuse his glass and they took the glass he had been drinking out of and scooped out ice straight from the bin with it! That's not sanitary. Use the scoop lady! So anyone who had ice in their cup got his germs and who knows who else's. Nasty
Met up with the fantasy football league yesterday to watch the games, and catch up. Â Decent space, as others have said- tons of TVs. Â Some not correctly tuned to HD channels, most were. Â
Food is pretty good- I had some wings (tasty), and a huge grilled chicken, cheddar, bacon sandwich. Â The chicken greatly exceeded the bun it was so big. Â It came with some pretty tasty fries that reminded me of "late night" at UMCP. Â
Draft beers are cheap during game days- I believe 6 bucks for a domestic pitcher. Â
All in all an above average sports bar. Â I will dock the 5th star because they inexplicably do not have wi-fi which any blackberry toting, fantasy football dork like myself would consider standard for a sports bar.
Food was decent, big selection of bar food. It's noisy, to the point you can't carry on a normal conversation with the person next to you. The waitress was having a hard time trying to hear. What's funny is the noise is generate by the main TV screen, they had the caps game cranked up. Â I guess they wanted an atmosphere and some cheering fans....
Very similar to the green turtle, but I think the turtle has the edge on food quality and service.
I been so many times, everything we have had on the menu is good. Esp the Jerk Tuna Bites. Sometimes the fries are cold but they will bring you some hot ones if you ask.
Open until 2 every night so it is perfect for late night. Haven't heard really "my kind" of music when i have gone but that is ok. Alot of live bands if you are into that.
Bar tenders are on top their games, esp Dave! He is great! Had one waitress be kind of snotty but I wont let it ruin it.
