We went on a Friday so we knew it would be busy so , we were told it would be a 35-40 min wait and were asked to order our pizza while we wait  so it would be at the table when we sat down......HA!  Not true.....  An hour of waiting at the bar we got our table and informed our server that we placed our order already thinking that it was ready ... HA! Not true again !! we waited another 35 min until the pizza arrived.  After we finished , our server took our pizza in the back to wrap it up ( usually they do it at the table) and to my surprise (not really thinking about the whole experience) she gave us the wrong pizza!!!  I'm not sure if I want to go back again.  Friends and I have had other poor experiences and when we have mentioned it to the manager he gives the attitude of " what do you want me to do about it ? "  VERY DISAPPOINTING because I love the pizza.
Review Source:My boyfriend took me out to Lou's tonight... My first time! He had a side salad, we shared the dip trip app witch was delicious (I'm going to attempt to replicate the garlic dip at home) and we had a medium pan pizza with all my favorite toppings. Superb!
Our server was ok, I have pretty high standards for servers though, but she certainly took good care of us.
We had a reservation, but still had to wait 10 minutes or so for our table. So I would recommend having a reservation on a busy Saturday night. We also per-ordered our pizza. My boyfriend said the pans can take a long time to cook, so per ordering cut out some of the wait.
Too good!
Ordered a half baked pizza today and did not notice until a couple of hours later when sitting down to eat that they forgot the sausage. Â I called and the Manager (Matt) made it right. Â I will still give 5 stars as I feel they have the best, freshest pizza and I do understand mistakes happen. Â We did order with lots of special requests (extra sauce, half baked....etc.) so I feel it was just human error. Â It was still a damn good pizza, even without their best topping! Â Â We look forward to ordering from Lou's again soon!
Review Source:Wow, what a great place and the service was wayyyyy great! Â We were a group of Snap On Rock N Rollers and we were treated like royalty here. Â The salad is to die for! Â The pizza is really good. Â I'm personally a thin crust guy but since this was my first time having real Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, I was impressed.
I wish I could remember our waitresses name, she was a fabulous server. Â Great enthusiasm, wonderful attitude and really kept up with this demanding groups needs. Â She is from Sacramento so she's a real California girl at heart... Thank you! Â Lou, you have a real gem in her......
Always a fan of Lou Malnati's in any form and any location.
But I have to say this particular location is kind of weird for a Lou Malnati's. It's a totally fine restaurant -- nice and spacious, well laid-out, well staffed. But it seems a little too corporate franchise for my taste and very unlike their older, more authentic pizza parlors in other parts of the Chicago area. Maybe it's the proximity to the golf course. Who knows? But this particular store seems to be a little overdesigned -- more like a TGI Fridays or other type chain where you have the same kitchy decorations that come out of a warehouse somewhere and are shipped to stores nationwide.
At any rate, it doesn't affect the food. That is still the same -- everything from the buttery deep dish I have come to love to the chocolate chip cookie dessert that is so totally worth it. Our waitress was awesome, and not just because she gave me the biggest piece of pizza! Sure we will  be back if we are in the area. Also dug the to-go frozen cooler by the door!
My family and I moved to Chicago from the South. Â I had always heard of Chicago deep dish pizza but never had it. Â Needless to say, we were anxious to try it and see what all the hype was about. Â The first place we tried was Lou Malnati's and wow, I was blown away.
We ordered a deep dish, butter crust, sausage pizza. It was to die for. Â Every layer is pure heaven. Â The buttery crust is beyond perfect. Â Crunchy on the outside with a slighty chewy center. Â The cheese is plentiful and gooey as it should be. Â The sausage was wonderfully seasoned and it more than covered the whole pizza. Lastly, the sauce, well, it's just so wonderful. Â It seems to be crushed tomatoes with garlic and parmesan cheese undertones. Â
In addition to the pizza, we've had a few different salads and appetizers, all of which were good, too.
To be fair, we've tried other pizza places since we've been here. Â But honestly, Lou's is truly the best. Â I am never disappointed when we eat there, which is often. Â And every time we've had family come visit, we always bring them to Lou's to experience Chicago deep dish pizza for themselves. Â So far, they've all loved it and trust me, you will too!
I am not a huge fan of pizza. We ate it a lot when I was a kid... I have gone years without eating it.
However, Lou's (and Nick's) is/are the only pizza I like. Wait, strike that, love.
My favorite is the deep dish sausage. The cheese is always perfectly cooked, the sauce is perfectly tomato-y and the crust is buttery good. The Lou's is also amazing... always cooked right.
The Malnati's Salad might be the best salad around.
We have never had a bad meal here and we have always had outstanding service!
The classic Lou's pizza, much closer to home.
Clean, friendly service; you do have to wait a bit, but it's only because your pizza is made to order. I don't recommend ordering a personal pan, because the crust-to-goodies ratio is too high, and trust me, you'll want the leftovers the next day. Cold Lou's pizza makes a wonderful breakfast!
Their salads are great, too, but be warned that they really are HUGE. A medium is plenty for two people and make sure to ask for the dressing on the side - they tend to drown it.
Great pizza. Â While Lou is famous for deep dish, and deep dish is the way to go here, I just don't like it. Â Thin crust is available and very good - I like it better than 90% of other thin crust out there. Â The other 5 people with me devoured multiple deep dishes and enthusiastically packed up the leftovers to take home. Â Family size salad to share was a great deal. Â We got an order of garlic bread - nothing to get excited about but the dipping sauce was tasty - the red sauce from the pizza.
The barn decor is very cute and makes this location quite distinctive from the clubby feel of the older locations. Â The place is literally as huge as a barn and there is plenty of seating, we had a party of 6 and got seated immediately at 5 pm but it got crowded as the evening got later.
My favorite place for Chicago deep-dish. Â The appetizers are delicious too, the soda cups are huge, and the design of the building is a pretty interesting modern farm theme. Â My husband and I went here the night before our wedding with our parents and his sister and her boyfriend and we got to sit in the silo with the huge table and lazy susan. Â We also went here for Valentine's Day once and they sort of messed up our pizza by forgetting a topping and having to take extra time to fix it (they caught it, before we even knew about it), so they threw in a free chocolate chip pizza which was amazing!
We haven't gotten to sit upstairs yet which I really want to do, but I'm too shy to ask, haha.
As I have said in other reviews, Lou Malnatti's is the standard by which I judge other pizza places for "Chicago style" deep pan pizza.
A friend of mine and I have eaten there several times, in fact 3 times out of the last 4 weeks. Â We volunteer at the Illinois Railway Museum, in Union, and the museum had been holding a Halloween event during, the month of October called "Terror on the Railroad that started at 7PM on Friday and Saturday nights. Â So, since Lou's in Lakewood is sort of on the way, we go there for supper.
This past Friday, Oct 29, we were there, and ordered our usual medium Malnatti's house salad (which is always excellent), and a medium deep pan pepperoni and mushroom pizza. Â
About the time we finished our salad, the wait person brought our pizza to the table and served it. Â As usual, the taste was excellent but the central part of the crust was rather of soggy - not good!
We signaled for our wait person and asked her if she could take the pizza back and put it in the oven for another 5 -10 minutes, which she immediately did. Â While we were waiting, a gentleman, whom I surmised was the manager, came to our table to appologize for the unsatisfactory pizza and said he was making us a new one. Â
In the mean time, the wait person brought our original pizza back and served it. Â It was JUST FINE!
When we finished, and asked for the check, she told us our other (no charge) pizza was ready.  We asked her to cut it in half  and put it in two separate boxes, which she did. Â
When we looked at the check, I saw that we had been charged for the salad and soft drinks only.
WOW!!!!!! That's customer service! Â No charge for two pizzas. Â We left a 150% tip based on the check, and at this writing, I'm just about ready to pop my half-pizza into the oven for supper tonight. Â DarnI If I just had a bowl of that house salad it would be perfect, along with my martini.
Anyway no matter the fact that the pizza is good, that was the best service I have ever had at any restaurant! Â Will we be back? Â Count on it!
Great individual deep dish sausage pizza. To the person who called their crust dry, there's a reason why everyone gets their pizza with butter crust...and to say you did your homework?! Their butter crust is nothing less than light, crispy and moist all at once.
I admit that service is slow and that pizzas may take awhile, but remember that old adage..."the best things come to those..."
I miss deep dish pizza so I routinely order their deep dish sausage pizza online and always smile when it arrives via FedEx in a box with dry ice.
With Chicagoland having vastly diverse Pizza restaurants, we like to go to Lou's every once in a while. We visited this place as it was close and we always wanted to try Lou's.
The restaurant is very nice, as there is ample seating, and the Pizza is great! I'm not a fan of deep dish, however they make great thin crust as well. They have a buttery crust which is a great change from the normal suburban Pizza's out there. The owners even visited our table while we were eating to make sure that everything was to our satisfaction.
The only problem is that they are located very close to cell towers (right across the street). I'm not a big fan of cell towers, as we don't know much about the raditation they give off and the effects on humans. I prefer their carryout, as I only like my food to be radiated and not my body! I just don't understand how they could put such a nice place in such a horrible area with cell towers so close!
Anyway, they do have a unique flavor that only Lou's can make. Anytime you are up for something other than the ordinary "Pizza" give Lou's a try!
This was my first visit to the location in Lakewood, which is nestled between Crystal Lake and Lake in the Hills. Â It's a nice, newer location built maybe two years ago. Â
We had deep dish pizza, cheese and pepperoni. Â For starters we had some appetizers, consisting of fried cheese cubes, calamari frite, and fried zucchini. Â All of them were very good, but I have had better calamari elsewhere, it could have been crispier. Â The zucchini was served with ranch dressing and the calamari was served with marinara. Â
The pizza was great, as one would expect from Lou's. They've got a great recipe and the consistency from one location to another shouldn't vary. Â The cheese was nice and thick and gooey, and the pepperoni was great and not greasy. Â We opted for the butter crust and it tastes really good.
The service was good, we were there celebrating a birthday and they had us in small room to ourselves, which was nice for our group.
We've ordered delivery from here before so we knew it was good, but eating in is always better in my opinion. Â We'll be back to this one for sure.
They don't take reservations per se, but if you order ahead they will seat you a little faster.
Well since I was in Chicago for business, I planned ahead and did my homework. Â Lou Malnati's was the highest rated pizza joint on here, so that was the first place I went. Â How was the pizza? Â Unbelievably disappointing!!!
The crust? Â This dry cornmeal mess. Â I have never had crust like it before, and hope I never have it again. Â (Oh I forgot to add this before, the perfect description of the crust. Â It was like a store bought pie crust made of cornmeal instead of flour.)
The toppings? Â Bland pepperoni. Â The sausage was killer, and that 40% of the reason this place gets 2 stars instead of one. Â There was good cheese too, and ample amounts of it.
Sauce? Â What sauce? Â Nothing but chopped up canned tomatoes on top. Â The whole pizza was very dry (and sooo gross) as a result.
A saving grace: Â the malnati salad. Â I loved it. Â Cannot say a single thing bad about it. Â If it were not for the salad, this place would be a definite one star.
I ate here recently while visiting some friends in Crystal Lake and the night before, we went to Gino's East in downtown and I gotta say that Lou's is a bit better. Â The two are pretty similar, but still have some major enough differences to split the them.
The difference between the two was really the crust and the sauce, but otherwise were very similar. Â Patty sausage and cheese were pretty close, but Gino's might have the edge on the slightly more seasoned and savory sausage. Â The crust, though, is nowhere near what Lou's can offer; it's buttery, but not greasy and more pastry like than Gino's.
Overall, Lou's beats out Gino's, but I'm an outsider visiting Chicago and know there is some serious rivalry over TRUE Chicago deep dish.
How can you not love Lou's? I have yet to go into the restaurant, but it's always packed when I pass by or pick up my to-go order from there. When I found out that they deliver to LITH, I didn't hesitate. I love their food, and they've expanded the menu to include sandwiches and such. The only downfall was my Malnatis salad. It didn't come with their signature dressing and there was chopped garlic in it. (Who puts garlic in their salad?!) Hopefully, this won't happen again.
Review Source:Reliably excellent food & service each and every time! Â When coming from Randall on Ackman Rd, the sign needs to be bigger and closer to the street you actually turn onto, otherwise you can drive right past Redtail and have to turn around down the road. Â
Food is excellent whether you eat in the restaurant, do carry out or have it delivered. Â The staff is always friendly. Â We have had it delivered a few times and they are always there in the amount of time they quote you!
The cheddar cubes are awesome!
What more can I say? Â Took ya long enough to move to my hood! Beer there, is well beer there. Â The atmosphere there is country-ish. Â Same good pizza and cheezy garlic bread that we have all come to know and love. Â I am glad that finally a decent place to eat pizza has finally moved out into the far nw burbs, bout time!
Review Source:Used to eat this in chicago all the time. Â Thought that since it took me some time to get this at work that it was just soggy because of sitting in the box for too long. Â Nope.
Tried this here, very greasy and soggy. Â I love cheese, but this is overkill. Â Parts of the pizza didn't seem baked all the way due to the cheese.
Won't be making this mistake again.
Thank heaven, Lou's is out here now.
I spent many years trying to convince my wife that Uno's is ok, but its no Lou's. Â Best Pizza ever.
This location is large, but not large enough at dinner time. Â (seriously, it's huge, but in this part of the world, there is no where else to go for authentic Chicago Pizza.)
Frequent diner since they opened this one, never had bad service. Â Calamari is excellent. Â (and I ask every time before I apply the lemon.)
I listed them as good for breakfast, not because they serve it, but because you can take leftovers home and warm them in a frying pan the next day. Â (never, under any circumstances let me catch you microwaving this pizza.)
Lou's is always the first place I go when I get back home and this time we tried their new location.
Since I had an entourage (8 people) meeting my wife and I at O'Hare (landed at 4:30 pm on a Friday) we phoned ahead to get a table and place our order. Â We ran into some traffic, phoned them back and updated our arrival time. Â Whoever was on the phones spoke clearly and was courteous.
We arrived at our updated time and was glad to see that their "group room" was being held for us. Â The location is a bit "off the beaten path" so it wasn't as bustling as the other locations we've gone to but I have a feeling that will be changing soon.
The waitress was very nice especially since we had a small child (1 yr old) and a handicapped individual. Â All the services were prompt and the food was as good as all the other locations.
This was perfect for me b/c it was a bit slower however the food was still the best Chicago-style pizza I know of.
I grew up in Chicago thinking that Uno's was my ideal Chicago-style pizza. Â I just never got an opportunity to try Lou Malnati's Pizza. Â There weren't any locations close to me and the restaurants that I have seen closer to the city are tiny storefronts.
I am thirty-*$!@# and feel cheated that I haven't tried Lou's pizza sooner. Â I feel ashamed that I had to move 2 hours away to drive 45min. to go to a restaurant in Lakewood, IL... and I believe it's Lakewood's first business, too. Â
I am SO very glad that my dining party decided to make the drive for a very early dinner. Â It was a Friday at 4:20. Â The place was relatively empty. Â By 5pm, there was a steady stream of patrons entering thru the door eager to get one of those vibrating beepers and wait. Â By 5:30 it was a 30 min. wait.
We started with the Calamari. Â I cannot accurately comment on this since my husband doused the whole plate with the lemon wedges making them soggier than I would have preferred. Â I can say that they were anything but tender-- not rubbery at all.
My iced tea was perfectly brewed and came in a huge cup. Â Didn't need a refill.
We ordered a medium sausage butter-crust. Â It was outstanding! Â I am growing weak with hunger just thinking about it. Â The sauce was rustic and fresh. Â The cheese layer was thinner than I expected, but kept a perfect ratio of crust : cheese : sauce.
The restaurant was comfortable. Â The staff was attentive. Â I especially appreciated the many staff paying attention and conversing to my kids... even the 1 1/2 yr old. Â Our waitress was either very experienced or her on the job training was superb (hate having to ask for extra napkins for the little kids).
Very nice bathrooms.
It pains me to give them a 3 star rating, especially since its really a rounded up 2.5.
Lou Malnati's makes my favorite pizza, and the pizza at this new location is nothing short of awesome. Â The antipasto salad we ordered was what we're used to too.. delicious!
I thought our waiter, Fabian, did an excellent job of making sure we had everything we needed. Â And when the kitchen goofed and made us a medium sized pizza (we ordered a large), they threw in another medium at no cost.
Although we ate inside, they do have a nice looking patio for al fresco dining. Â
I understand that this location is new, and very popular, but I felt like waiting over an hour for a two top was kind of pushing it. Â I love it when restaurants take reservations or allow you to at least phone your pizza order in ahead of time, but we were denied on all counts. Â
They also have a separate carry-out door on the east side of the building. Â
While we were eating, something happened that I found to be totally unprofessional, and I was going to bring it up to the manager until I discovered the the offender was the owner of the restaurant. Â He brought us some water, and while setting it (more like slamming it!) down, he yelled at our waiter and a nearby waitress for not having water out for us. Â Not having the courtesy to wait until they weren't in front of customers is not acceptable. Â
I'll be back to check them out again in a few months, after they've had a chance to work out the "new restaurant" bugs.
