It was much better than some of the other reviews would suggest. This was for a business dinner for 12. We were seated in the back room by the fireplace. It started out quiet until a group attending a convention were seated. They had a nice wine list, but didn't seem to have inventory of the wines listed. Our first selection was our of stock. We continued to run them out of inventory for 2 more selections. Unfortunately they don't have appetizer platters suited for large groups so we made due by ordering the cheese plate, lobster thai rolls, and Hawaiian tuna poke. They were all great. For the main course, I had the macadamia encrusted sea bass which is one of their signature dishes. Excellent choice. For dessert, finished with a nice glass of Balvenie. Our waiter made some excellent suggestions for wines and main courses.
Review Source:Husband has been trying to get me to agree to go here but I kept refusing because of the reviews. We finally went on a Saturday night recently. We made a reservation via Open Table a couple of hours in advance but it was completely unnecessary. At 8 pm, this place was pretty empty. It was also freezing cold. We were in the absolute middle of the place, not at all close to any windows or exterior walls. It seems like most reviewers complained about the service. Honestly, that was the best part of our meal. Our waiter was attentive and courteous.
Food was hit or miss but definitively slow to arrive at our table. Â (Give this was a slow night, I can't imagine what would happen if they were actually busy.) Steak tartar was pretty good. My soy ginger tuna was amazing, perfectly rare and worked beautifully with the accompanying rice. The plate also included fried green beans. (What the hell, is this Friday's?) They were edible but a little greasy. Maybe the fry oil wasn't hot enough. Husband had a special that included a tomato risotto. It was almost really good but the kitchen went a little too heavy on whatever sweetening agent was in it.
Overall, the experience was better than I expected given the other reviews but it definitively didn't do enough for me to what to return. There are too many other places in town that are better.
Really? Really? This place blows!!! I stopped on a weeknight while traveling through St. Louis on business and it was a tragic mistake.
The wedge salad was terrible the iceberg lettuce was so bitter it was disgusting. It should be removed from the menu.
The Shrimp & Grits weren't any better. The shrimp were covered in to much sauce and then we com to the grits. Being a southerner I love grits. These so-called grits were so dry you could have used them for drywall mud. My suggestion for the Chef if they have one is simple. Simmer the grits then add salt, pepper and BUTTER! Â Whatever you're doing doesn't work. It's two items on the plate Shrimp & Grits. Need to bring your A game on this one. What's being served falls short.
I've been here on a few different occasions and the best word I can think to describe the food here is "meh". Â The food is just ok. Â No more, no less. Â When compared with the price they charge, it certainly isn't worth the money in my opinion. Â The last time I was here I ordered spare ribs with some blue cheese scalloped potatoes. Â The ribs were average at best, and the potatoes were raw. Â This seems like a place where I would rather just grab a drink at the bar as opposed to order dinner. Â Go for drinks, not for food.
Review Source:I stayed in St. Charles (30 mins) from St. Louis for a business trip. I didn't know what to do or where to go so one night, I called up the Taxi company and a young looking fella picked me up. He looked young enough, so I told him to take me to St. Louis, and to choose a bar for me to go to. Lucas Park and Grill. He said that it is definitely the place to be.
He couldn't be more right. The crowd was young, hip, and dressed up very nicely. I gotta say, there were a lot of girls there. The girl guy ratio there was better than most clubs I've been to in the bay area. The whole staff was really nice to me including all the bouncers. And for whatever reason, there were girls dressed up in booty shorts handing out free shots to the crowd. Don't mind if I do!
If you're new to this area or from out of town, I suggest stopping by here for some great service, and a fun night.
Walked in on a Saturday evening for dinner around 6 and took a seat at the bar for pre-dinner drinks and appetizers. It was surprisingly empty for this part of town on a Saturday, but I suppose there was a lot going on in the city that night. I order the Bogen Bellini as my cocktail (peachy goodness) and man was it yummy! The prices were pretty reasonable with the martini priced at $8!!! And they were not shy on the pours either! :) We then ordered the crab cake appetizer, and yet AGAIN they wowed us. We both agreed that it was the best crab cake either of us had ever had... SO YUMMY we even considered ordering another!
We then closed out our bar tab and went to a table in the dining room, again... oddly quiet and empty. Ordered another Bellini here (and enjoyed it every bit as much as the first). Our server was a little odd and kind of spastic as she had about 6 tables to herself (all the tables in there) which is strange. She failed to mention the specials to us as she had at the other tables, but that's ok because we ordered the Flat Iron Steak and the Beef Tenderloin on the menu and were completely happy with those!
The price overall was very good I would say. About $80 for 2 drinks and 2 steak/more expensive entreés. We both left happy and are looking forward to our next visit there... hopefully in the fall when it's cooler to enjoy their patio!
Last night was my first venture to this name dropped location. My friend and I went for a later dinner and decided to sit out on the patio. Even though it was still muggy outside, the patio is nice, and gave us the chance to people watch down Wash Ave. Our waiter was really attentive and social, calling us the "dangerous girls who decided to brave the patio in 100 degree weather", charmed.
My friend ordered the spinach salad while I opted for the Salmon Poke with Wanton Crisps. I also had a glass of Merlot that was excellent, it was just what I was craving. Our food came out in a timely manner and my dish was wonderful. The salmon was cubed and set up almost like a "salmon salsa" in consistency. Scoop it onto the wantons and eat like chips and dip--I liked it a lot. Not overly filling but hit the spot. My friend enjoyed her salad as well, we both scraped our plates and drained our glasses--success.
Walking back through the restaurant it was dimly lit and a DJ was setting up shop. The seating options are cool, with little couches, high tops and a wrap around bar--I'm intrigued.
I know I need to hit this spot for nightlife but coming here for food first was a thumbs up, I'm looking forward to more visits in the future.
I was in StL for a bachelorette party a few weeks ago, and the one request the bride-to-be had was that we have dinner at Lucas Park Grille. Â After seeing the menu, I knew it was going to be a good choice.
We were seated promptly, and offered drinks. Â I had the pomegranate and grapefruit martini, which was much more pom than grapefruit, but still tasty. Â Our server was happy to answer any questions about the menu and drinks, and also ready and willing to make recommendations.
I liked that the menu was split into small and larger plates, but it made my decision very difficult! Â I ended up with the beet and goat cheese salad and grilled salmon... both of which were amazingly delicious. Â Everything on the table looked divine.
If I am ever back in StL, I will go back to Lucas Park Grille to try some of the other wonderful looking menu items!
Lucas Park Grille is a cross between a luxury sports bar and an upscale restaurant. It really depends on the time and day as to the experience you will have. I lived not too far from Washington Ave and would frequent LPG for lunch and or brunch. However, I recently returned to STL on a trip and decided to give it a try for Sunday dinner.
When we arrived, the place was pretty much empty save a few patrons at the bar. Normally that is a warning sign, however the servers were very attentive and the food was phenomenal. I had the calamari to start and the Ahi Tuna as my entree. I'm an avid Ahi Tuna "eater" and this was by far the best Ahi Tuna I've ever had. The portions are somewhat small, but the exceptional quality makes up for that.
I would definitely recommend LPG to anybody visiting the Washington Park area. This place is much better than the Mexican and other American type eateries in the vicinity. It's however, not the cheapest option around.
Had a very nice experience at Lucas Park Grille last night. Â While I can't credit them with the fantastic mid-March weather, they certainly did provide the atmosphere. Â We sat on their deck, which was so nice! Â Lots of space and open for lots of people-watching on Washington.
My friend and I both got salads (spinach salad and roasted beet salad) and then split 3 appetizers (crab cake, flash-fried spinach and hummus duo). Â We were very happy with our salads, although mine came out without beets initially (aren't beets an integral part of a beet salad?!). Â However, the rest of the salad ingredients (candied pecans, goat cheese and vinaigrettes) were fantastic! Â The appetizers were all very tasty and we were surprised at how much food we got. Â
The brief encounters we had with the hostess and other staff were very pleasant, but I have to say that our server was not great. Â Honestly, she was pretty aloof. Â It would've been more of a bother had she been around more, but she didn't come around to the table that often. Â It was not the overall excellent service that I was expecting, nor did I think the service was commensurate to the price of the food and drink. Â However, the atmosphere and the quality of food made up for it and, as I already mentioned, I quite enjoyed my experience there. Â I'd love to go back because pratically the entire menu sounds fantastic!
I had been to Lucas Park Grille once before for a work lunch and while I remember it being tasty, I didn't have enough specifics to warrant a full review. Thanks to http://restaurant.com, I was able to remedy that last night!
I arrived a little earlier than my date, but was promptly seated outside on the deck for the beautiful March weather. It was fun to overlook Washington Ave. and take in the beautiful evening. They would get 5 stars for the deck alone.
Cara B. arrive and we decided to get a salad and some apps. She ordered a martini and I had a glass of wine.....because why not?!
My salad (Spinach) was amazing. The candied pecans complemented the goat cheese and vinaigrette flavors perfectly.
The flash fried spinach was lighter than I expected, but had an interesting garlic-y sweet flavor. The hummus was a perfect consistency and great flavor. Our crab cake had a bit of a kick to it, and was moist and tasty. By the end of the meal, we couldn't eat another bite, though we still had quite a bit of food left.
Our waitress was weird. It was like she was apathetic to the job, yet she talked a lot about the menu. She seemed to have a lot of information, and want to offer a lot, yet everything was a little off about her delivery. Then, once we ordered, we pretty much never saw her again.
I'd say the prices are much too high for me to want to go back, though my experience last night was good!
I see that recent reviews are really hit or miss, but based on my first trip to Lucas Park Grille, I'm gonna have to give them the big, 5-star nod of approval.
My husband and I stopped in for an early Sunday dinner after an afternoon concert nearby in an attempt to finally use some http://restaurant.com certificates. Â We had made a reservation on Open Table (not necessary for this hour) and we given our choice of seating, picking a cozy booth up on the platform passed the bar next to a fireplace.
We were quickly greeted by our server, RC, who we found to be very helpful, energetic, and pleasant over the course of our meal.
We started with a cheese plate with chosen cheeses of brie and white cheddar. Â The white cheddar was very good, but I was left wanting slightly more from the brie. Â It was very mild - even for a brie. Â The flavor may have been more evident had the brie been baked or served a little less chilled which also made it more difficult to spread on the crustinis.
Following this nice little plate was the Spinach Salad, which I LOVED! Â I could go for another one right now. Â Nice big, fresh spinach leaves covered with a raspberry vinaigrette and red onions that pack a powerful punch, but the goat cheese just brings the whole dish together with it's creamy texture and perfectly paired flavor. Â The candied pecans if forked in large concentrations can be a bit much for a weinie like me, but that's easily avoided (or enjoyed if you like a little more spice!). Â I would definitely order this salad again - yum!
For entree, I ordered the Pepper Grilled Flat Iron with Blue Cheese Au Gratin Potatoes and Port Demi Glace. Â My husband ordered the Smoked Pepper Grilled Pork Chop with hash, green beans, and tomato-basil jam (fab!). Â My husband thought the pork chop may have been very slightly overcooked, but I thought it was juicy and perfect based on my stolen bite. Â The flat iron was cooked beautifully, but the show stopper were the au gratin potatoes. Â Holy moly - I could eat plates of that! Â I'd later regret it, I'm sure, but they were sooooooo good. Â Upon a return visit, I'd consider getting the same entree just to have those potatoes again instead of venturing on to new offerings. Â I thought the port chosen for the base of the demi glace was a little more fruit forward that expected or perhaps too much sugar had been added, but I'll chock that up to personal preference.
I'd say the small smear upon our evening was some sort of meeting or training that was going on behind a curtained off section of the restaurant. Â One woman's voice definitely carried to our dining area and was distracting at a couple of points. Â They were discussing getting their fine dining name back and the changes necessary. Â Tip #1 would be to not have these trainings within obvious earshot of customers. Â Speaker needed to lower the volume a little, but the everyone else's inputs seemed to be at a reasonable level.
Lucas Park has a wonderful atmosphere, good drinks, and decent food. Â Although the prices are a bit high, I enjoy the food that's offered. Â I have been for dinner once and brunch twice and must tell you that the brunch is truly excellent. Â It really beats the local competition as far as brunch goes. Â And for those complaining about the price of this joint, brunch for 2 (before alcohol) will run you only about $20. Â
The biggest asset of this restaurant is the service. Â On all of my visits, the service has been positively spot-on, which is commendable. Â All of the waitstaff are friendly and helpful, and actually seem to take pride in what they are doing. Â
All of that said, I don't understand the allure of this place when it becomes more of a club on Friday/Saturday nights, but brunch and dinner times are excellent.
Lucas Park Grille is a somewhat upscale restaurant. Â I say this based solely on menu prices and not food quality. Â I spent more than $50 on dinner and after I was finished, I concluded that I have eaten better tasting food at Crapplebees. Â It's not revoltingly bad or anything, just bland and tasteless. Â The service is friendly enough and I do stop in for drinks from time to time. Â It gets too crowded on Friday and Saturday for my liking, but that's more of a personal preference than a critique of the business. Â
In all, if you're going to Lucas Park Grille, I would suggest it for drinks only. Â There are much better restaurants in the area.
It's so hard to judge a place when the clientele is always pissing you off. Since moving down near Washington a few months ago, I've been to Lucas Park Grill with a few friends, and just don't get the attraction.
First, when you walk in you are mixed with a numerous amount of smells, the most overwhelming of them all is the cheap cologne some of the crowd has doused themselves in. This all makes me feel very unsafe, because let's face it, if there was a fire that place would only be aided by the fumes coming off from these people.
Secondly, if you go in there a night, plan on having trouble getting a drink at the bar. Sure the place is crowded, but people just tend to group around the bar, and don't want to let others in to order. I would do a flying elbow, but with it being so crowded I might end up hitting my future ex-girlfriend.
If you are into the club scene, this place is for you. I can't bring myself to really get into that crowd, and as thus my review is affected by it. I've heard the food is great, but I haven't gotten a chance to try it out. Maybe once I do my opinion will be changed drastically.
Haven't been here for the food yet, and that's probably because all the other yelpers seem to think the food is not worth it, BUT I have been here for their drinks and they were certainly tasty.
Was here to watch one of the world series games this year and had a couple of martinis by the fireplace with a friend. The service was friendly and speedy and the drinks were fun and fruitful. The fact that I could sit right next to the fire and watch the game while sipping on a martini was great. However, we chose the fireplace as an alternative to the bar area, at first because the place was so crowded, but later we decided we had made the right choice! Also I should mention that I tend to dislike mixed drinks with lemon/lime, and lucky for me their drink menu had many options. I believe I had some peachy martini that was great.
Probably would go back to try some more drinks on their menu, still not sure if I want to go there to try their food.
In the long list of things that annoy me, right above restaurants that close between lunch and dinner, are places that stay open but limit their menu (especially those like Lucas Park Grille that don't list it on their website or tell you when you walk in, but rather wait until you've sat down, ordered a drink and then oh, btw, we are only serving this section of our menu). The website does say "food availability varies late at night" but what about around 3pm on a Saturday?
So we ordered Ahi Poke, Hummus and Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. The Poke was good" tasted fresh and served chilled. Even better without the wonton crisps to be honest, they were very oily. The shrimp was good, but holy cats the smoked cheddar grits served with them were out of this world. could have done without the hummus, it was average.
And to top off my roller coaster experience, it took 3 servers and 20 minutes to locate our waitress to pay. When she did re-appear we got "oh hey, did you need something, yes, your bill, the chef wanted to talk and no one says no to the chef, hahaha."
Very nice place the interior is fantastic lots of woodwork and wooden beams add to the character of this cool old building.
We had sttopped in for lunch it wasn't too busy and the service was good . We were seated quickly and I had a cold glass of tea in front of me in just a few moments.
For lunch we had a California club and red pepper hummus both were very good, the hummus was enough to share. They also wipped up a blt that was loaded with bacon MMMMMMM bacon.
Seems like a nice place with good food and good service.
Being at Lucas Park during the night is night and day from being there during the day. Imagine that.
I have only had dinner here once. I was very impressed by their outside seating area, but equally unimpressed by their lack of draft beer. Not draft beer selection, but no draft beer at all. This is just wrong and I find it upsetting. That aside, I think the menu is nice.
We tried six of the small plates between us, and if I remember correctly they were all nice. The service was OK at best, but I think she was slammed from a random pop on a Sunday night. I'll let this one slide because she was from my home state.
Lucas Park on a weekend night is a different story. Shots, cheap beer, sweaty people, disco lights and what seemed to be some type of modeling contest on the stage? It is a totally different experience that I did not expect, but enjoyed even so. Given the location of this restaurant, I understand why they would not want to miss out on this weekend revenue.
I'll be back for day and night.
Lucas Park Grille is a good, solid restaurant, but it didn't exactly blow me away. We came for dinner last Friday night, and we were struck by how cavernous and empty the restaurant was. This was Friday night! Where was everyone? Considering all the reviews that mention LPG as a night spot, I was surprised how few diners there were.
As for the food, I thought it was generally overpriced and under-creative. Pretty standard restaurant fare, nothing that you can't get at a million other places. Now, that might sound harsh; I don't mean to imply it wasn't good. For someone like me who travels frequently and eats in a lot of restaurants, it just wasn't particularly memorable or unique.
We started with a bottle of wine which was unmemorable. My co-worker had the salmon, which was unmemorable. I had the trout special, which was neither special nor memorable. Our server was decent, but he disappeared for long stretches of time and wasn't particularly solicitous or helpful. See what I mean? It just wasn't that great. Even though the food was fine, with so many other choices in the area, I probably would not go back.
I was going to give it three stars, but I'm so ambivalent about it, I think I have to go for the "meh" two-star rating. Sorry, LPG.
Think of Lucas Park as Batman's frenemy Two-Face. Â One part is a wholesome, likable fellow who tries to do right by the people whom he serves. Â The other part is dark and ugly and just not very personable in general. Â Such is the case with Lucas Park. Â It is, I think, the first bar I ever went to in all of Missouri and I've gone back quite a few times because it's always so hopping at night. Â The group's choice, not my choice, because the after-dark Lucas Park is the disfigured half. Â Crowds I can deal with, even the extreme crowds at LP, but the looooong waits for service coupled with the high cost/no specials pricing strategy is not the recipe for a good time.
On the other side of the coin (ha ha) is a place where the noble Harvey Dent might have lunch after a tough morning on the job. Â After years of throwing myself into the LP mob at night, I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to see how LP conducts itself at noontime. Â Open, sunny, classy furniture, good service, a unique menu, good service, and a quiet atmosphere. Â The difference really is like night and day and I'm looking forward to going back. Â For lunch.
Lucas Park is one of those places when you tell your friends you're going to go during a night out, you get one or two "uggghhhhh"s or "noooooo"s. For me, it's always been a reliable stop while partaking in a little drinking on Washington, but until last night, I didn't realize how good the food actually is! It's funny how different it looks during the day, too, compared to after hours with a few rum and diets. Yelp sponsored Iron Bartender this Sunday so we got to sneak a bite in between set-up and the event.
We tried a couple things... my fiance had the oysters and was really shocked at how small they were. The presentation was nice, but unfortunately there wasn't too much there to eat. I had the mini burgers and they were really good! They were topped with cheese and mini tomatoes and pieces of lettuce, and came with sweet pickles and a ketchup/bbq sauce. The giant pile of sweet potato fries in the middle didn't hurt, either! Other than that, we just had a cheese plate that was really sweet & salty all at the same time. I was craving more of that brie earlier today.
I feel like the nighttime crowd at Lucas can be a little shady. It seems like lately it's a lot of men on the prowl. Since the food we had was pretty good, I'd be interested to try their brunch I hear so much about.
I'm really sad my favorite bartender Schmitty left, but I'm sure I'll be back in soon!
Lucas Park I wanna visit you ever night!
It was a fun night Saturday --weather was nice for the first time in a while, the snow melted away for the most part. Everyone was out ready to drink and have fun.
We arrived close to midnight, and was able to snag seats at the bar after patiently waiting about 20 min or so. The bartender, oh how I wish I got his name! He was really awesome. Noticed that drinks were low quickly asked if we wanted another, was prompt and really really knew how to handle the crowd. He had to check a customer trying to order a drink. She got a little attitude when he went to another person rather than her. After he told her "this isn't the deli counter, I'll get to you when I can" she commented back something smart he then said "bye, I won't be serving you." We totally saw his point of view, honestly it's a busy Saturday night, everyone wants a drink, so really for her to think she should get it sooner than 20 others, the bartender just wanted her to wait her turn.
Anyway -- I appreciate the service Saturday night and can't wait to go back. It is a fave spot on Wash Ave.
We went to Lucas Park Grille on a Sunday night. There was no crowd so I can't say anything about the 'scene.'
Instead of getting appetizers and then a main course, we decided to order several appetizers, soup and salad.
Here's the skinny:
The roasted red pepper hummus came with toasted pita, cucumbers and olives - very decent.
The pan seared scallops had just a slight hint of being rubbery, but very acceptable. They were drenched in sweet and spicy mango sauce that has a nice tangy bite, and came with delicious sesame-cilantro sushi rice.
The pan fried crab cake was topped with a yummy spicy remoulade, and came with roasted red pepper salad greens.
The Hawaiian ahi tuna came with toasted sesame oil, soy sauce, sea salt and wonton crisps. We weren't sure if they were rare or raw - but they were very very good!
The spinach salad with candied pecans, goat cheese, red onions with raspberry vinaigrette was fabulous. You get the yummy pecan crunch, and the vinaigrette was perfectly mixed into the greens. The tomato basil bisque had the perfect amount of basil.
Unfortunately, the caesar salad was forgettable and broccoli cheddar soup (soup of the day) was very bland.
Overall, it's a nice place with decent food, but hardly a classic favorite. We did have excellent service that night.
An okay dining experience.
The food and service were both just okay, even though the place was not that busy. Some of our courses were great, some were worth forgetting.
To start, our table shared the local cheese plate which ended up being the highlight of the meal. It was plenty for 3 of us to share, in addition to the salads and entrees. The mix of cheese, bread, pickles, fruit, etc was a nice way to start off dinner.
The salads were hit and miss. Everyone loved the spinach salad, but the Caesar was pretty bland. In fact the Caesar salads were sent back to the kitchen.
As for the main course, my friends ordered the ahi poke, mac & cheese, while I tried the open face ravioli. All of which were interesting, but just okay-good. Both the mac & cheese and ravioli needed more of a kick.
I just went back to Lucas Park Grille for the first time in years and it was also the first time I've had dinner there. Â 7:00 on a Monday night the place was almost completely empty. Â By the time we left a few more tables had filled up, but not many. Â The dining room is separated into a more casual setting near the front of the restaurant where the bar is with high tables and window seats and the back half of the restaurant which is more "elegant" with white table cloths and such.
Our waitress was very nice and prompt and I really have no complaints about the food. Â I had the grilled salmon with a potato pancake. Â It was good, not amazing. Â We also had a side order of sweet potato fries for the table and they had a good taste, but would have been better if they were more crispy instead of wilty/soggy. Â There were five in my party and everyone ordered something different and thought everything was good.
I do like the interior of this place and they also have a really nice patio, which I have not sat on but looks pretty great. Â Valet parking is $3. Â I wouldn't make a special trip here for the food, but if you're in the area it's a pretty decent stop.
Lucas Park Grille has gotten a lot of press and word of mouth gossip lately...and everything has been incredibly positive. However, I took my friends there for a date night evening and we were not impressed, as the rave reviews had led us to a restaurant we could have definitely passed on.
We all ordered a cocktail, an appetizer of some sort, and a main entree. Â The cocktails came out very slowly, as did our appetizers. Â We had 2 salads, the lobster mac and cheese and one other appetizer.
Three steaks were served, along with the tuna steak, which was over cooked and the flavors on the fish didn't mesh well together. Â The steaks however, looked like they were prepared well, but again some of the flavors didn't mix together as well as we had expected.
To be honest, the bread and butter (chive) was the best thing we ate all night long...other then the incredible social scene Lucas Park Grille has near the front of the restaurant where the bar is.
Not what I had expected, and I would definitely not go back for dinner, but for the social and drinking scene- I would probably make an appearance.
I don't care for Lucas Park as a gathering place for drinks and socializing, but their duck confit ROCKS! Â
I have to give them kudos and elevate my low rating to four stars because Lucas Park is one of the few non-Asian eateries in St. Louis that know how to prepare duck. I would make a trip to Lucas Park for the duck confit with truffle mashed potatoes any time. The duc au jus has a subtle flavor and it is moist. Â I like that they don't mask the natural flavors with excessive ingredients. Â It is wonderful without them. Â Mmmmm, I'm hungry!
Note: Â menu is priced a little high for many of the items, but the duck is a standout.
I've only been here for lunch, but I've been quite a few (read: about a dozen) times. The Kobe Beef Sliders and Wednesday's Fried Chicken Breast special are the reasons I come here. The rest of the menu is dismissable, although their fries are quite good.
Nice enough atmosphere; friendly waiters. I have a feeling that this place is much nicer for dinner, despite its reputation for being a bar hangout for 20-year-olds.
I despise Lucas Park. I've been there to eat now three times for dinner, and all three have been, uh, not so good. The food is entirely underwhelming for a "upscale" restaurant. I will agree with others, and say that the service is excellent, but I'd be an excellent server too if I was trying to finagle a 20+% tip off of a $150+ ticket. The only other good thing about this place is that they serve Duckhorn Merlot here--something that surprisingly few restaurants do in St. Louis. I would rate this place a two star, but the "nightlife" dropped it to one.
Lucas Park "The Bar," is ridiculous. I don't understand why people, and not just the people on Yelp, think that this place is a "see-and-be-seen" kind of place. From the experiences I've had, which unfortunately are many, its a bunch of douche bag 20 and 30-somethings trying to be hip (Lord, please nobody misinterpret that line too). My girlfriend refuses to come here because she says there are too many people from Kirkwood that go here, and trust me, in my limited experience in St. Louis, nothing hip comes out of Kirkwood.
No, I don't want to stand in a packed bar where I can't move; no, I don't want to smell your acrid cigar because its "fuckin' boys' night," and no, I don't want to hear about how "the Europeans got life right man," because you saved all your money to go on a Cliffsnotes' version of Europe-lite for a week, and now you want to impress upon some over the bridge floozy that you know all about Europe*.
My advice, go down the street and patronize the other bar the owners have: Flannery's. The last time I was in Flannery's the bartender looked at me and asked why I looked so pissed and I told him it was because I just came from Lucas Park, and that I hated it. His response? "You are awesome." And then he bought me and my friends a round and shots.
Fuck it, it was boys' night.
*-I'm thinking that I'm going to make "Over the Bridge" St. Louis' version of "Bridge and Tunnel." Sure it doesn't have the zip of saying "B&T," in fact, if you acronym-ize it, people will probably think you're talking about Off Track Betting, but c'mon people, let's start a revolution!
AWWW.......this place brought back a lot of memories...
It was the first bar I came when I just arrived St Louis.
It was the last place I came down with my ex before he moved out of STL, we both got buzzed pretty bad.
It was the lounge where we hung out a lot with co workers and friends after work.
It was the first time that at a restaurant that I was so drunk I stole one of their drinking glass.
...
No, this was not the restaurant where I had my first time bathroom make out session thank you very much.
Ok, I stop reminiscing, and here is the real Review:
It is a nice upscale place where friends can hang out, the dress code is dressy, there are always lot of beautiful people in here. Â So you might want to dress to impress. Â They have good wine / drink selection, the food is good, i do remember having the lamb chop was the best. Â It gets really packed during weekend, so come early if you want to have a good seat beside the fireplace. Â Patio is good, the service is good, the restroom is clean, what more you want from me??!!
P.O.S.H. - go here to feel cool and beautiful! Â Oh yea, you might wanna check out the tasty food as well! Â My brain almost exploded when I saw the menu. Â This place is so cool and the menu is out there! Â Get this, Lobster Mac n' cheese! Â That's right! ....and it's good, really really good! Â
They meld strange ingredients together that will make you so happy that you'll think you've lost your mind. Â The Muscovy duck is earthy yet sweet and oh so strange. Â Delectable and brilliant! Â The ambiance of the place is amazing and the lighting here will knock you out.
This was the first stop on our night out in St. Louis. We stopped by another bar called Lush and it was empty. We asked the valet guys at Lush "where do all the fun people go? not the posers". They suggested we go to Lucas Park Grille. Good suggestion.
They had some kind of a special on sparkling wine and we ended up ordering bottle service. Our server Tabitha was awesome. She came back frequently to fill our glasses and chatted with us. We asked her to suggest an appetizer and she recommended the mini sliders made with Kobe beef. Excellent suggestion. The mini-sliders came with sweet potato fries. Delicious!!
We went back the next day for lunch. I ordered the smoked chicken sandwich with sun dried tomatoes. My partner got the prime burger and our friends got a tilapia blt and the burger. All dishes came with fries sprinkled with shaved parmesan cheese. Fabulous.
The food is good. The only inconsistency was the fries. My friend's fries were cold and tasted stale. Our fries were fine.
The crowd is very typical for an upscale restaurant minus the diversity. I was the only colored person on premises on both days. it doesn't matter to me, just an observation. There was a sea of blond hairdos.
The outside seating area, although not open, looks beautiful. I bet it will be a nice place to sit and have a drink once the weather gets warm.
The service on both days was impeccable. Both our servers were cheerful, pleasant, and professional. Overall, a fun place to eat and drink with friends.
The Lucas Park Grill is the kind of place that I usually end up at when I am downtown around all the trendy spots. Â Okay, let me rephrase that, its pretty much where I go if I am downtown save for one or two other place, which in most cases, I will hit them all up in a single night.
Lucas Park is a neat place. Â Cool and collected giving off the vibe of something between a 1960's swinger joint, a Las Vegas nightclub, and something else that I can't quite put my finger on. It could be the different types of people that show up at Lucas Park. Walking in you see people in suits, then the standard "Friday night shirt," sleeves rolled up con stripes, cute dresses, and somewhere throughout mingling in the crowd are some T-shirts and jeans. Lucas Park has a wide variety of people who go there. Maybe that's why I can't quite put my finger on the other thing or it could be that by the time I get there my memory is in hazy mode. Either way I have fun while there.
Patrons aside, Lucas Park Grill is an enjoyable place that has resulted in me going there on more than one occasion. I honestly really don't go down to Washington Ave all that often because the crowd I'm with prefers the pub scene. Even though it is on the Washington Avenue strip and you'll see some people in the bars obviously trolling for club hoe ass (like any other bar really), Lucas Park allows you to see past all of that mainly because the atmosphere makes the place not seem like a pretentious prick who drives their huge SUV to work and then their Prius on the weekends claiming to care about the environment. The place is like a train, just going down the tracks at it's own pace. You can't stop it and so, you just sit back, relax and enjoy it.
Lucas Park is what it is. A hip bar where a group of friends can have a place to go on the Washington Avenue strip that is not costly but you still get a good drink. You won't be spending a buck fifty for a beer but you also won't be spending eight dollars on a domestic beer either.
Grill and market by day. DJ, dance floor & bar by late night.
Cheeeeeeeesy crowd. Ages 21 - 61 with the sigifg's class reunion pals in the middle. More of a mid-later 20s hangout spot. Great drinks and service though. Layout is fantastic. Rectangle bar in the middle so you have access all around. Seating around 1/2 - 2/3 of the area. Outdoor deck fantastic. Really bad DJs. Think SF bay area Cyberfest 1996. In the redeveloping downtown.
The usual immature boys being cocky over their silly girls...but we were along for the fun...and entertaining it was.
Besides being the "it" place in 2005, the restaurant and cafe both serve great food with eclectic but not outlandish menus that are regularly refreshed. Â Only 4 stars because service is above par but not stellar, and dining prices are a bit steep.
The bar is dangerously generous. Â Finally, the bodega market is trs convenient and seems to always have what I need in stock despite its small size.
