"I'm never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down. Never gonna run around, and desert you..." Yes, Lucky's, you just got rick'rolld. I had the best time drunkenly singing karaoke all night long. From Rick Astley, to Tom Petty, to a little "Killing Me Softly," I basically owned the place- with the help of my friends and drunken crowd.
I agree with Lisa S. that the bartenders seemed like they didn't want to be there, even over a year later. However, they were quick to serve, and generous with the $1 bombs. Also, on Saturday's they feature live Celtic music, winning!
The patio at Lucky's is huge! And includes a TV outside in case you are still wanting to catch the end of the ball game, while playing a game of corn-hole.
The crowd on this Wednesday night was a mix of laid back college kids and older regulars. It was a nice hodgepodge and made for a great time. Or it could be my shamelessness that kept me singing and laughing all night long. But I'm guessing it was my pool shark skills. I showed those boys "wassupppp." Whatever it is, Lucky's... you are my new staple.
They didn't have Murphy's stout on tap. I was heartbroken. I cannot find it anywhere in Columbus, and it is sooooo much better than Guinness.
Their tap selection is pretty good, with a handful of Irish/UK beers and local favorites like Bell's. I didn't see anyone actually Irish working, which might explain the lack of Murphys. Maybe.
They charged a $2 cover, which I thought was totally reasonable, since there was a completely amazing Irish folk band playing. I genuinely enjoyed everything they played all night, and it wasn't obtrusive or annoying, just nice. Their outdoor area is simple - just wooden picnic tables and cornholing, but nice. They also have darts inside.
I have faith that someday they will get Murphy's on tap since they had Murphy's Red ale. So I will return.
My first visit here was with an Irishman, who happened to be from a small village not far from the owner's. It was dead except for the owner and a few of his friends, myself and a couple friends, and a few ladies - it was cold, and I think school was on break.
The beer selection? Great. The owner? Cool guy.
Even coming back when the place was jam-packed on a campus night, the bartenders were quick, the beer was in stock, the music was decent, and the crowd was mellow - it was loud, but the crowd was still in the "friendly drunk" mode.
