Good food
I live right down the street from Marcello's and have always been meaning to check it out. Came in for lunch the other day and it was pretty slow. You get complimentary garlic chip strip things with butter. We had one and passed on the rest. I got the broiled chicken with the grilled veggies as a side. The broiled chicken was delicious. You get your choice of fried or grilled and you get to pick you seasoning, I chose garlic and boy was it garlicy! Yum. The skin was so crispy and the white meat was so tender. The grilled veggies were a little oily but they were good. My boyfriend ordered the thai flatbread. The server warned us that the flatbread would be reaaalllly peanutty and he was right. It was good, regardless. We'll defintiely be back.
I have been to many excellent restaurants throughout the world with my wife of 30 years.  When on business travel to Chicago, Marjie always schedules a reservation going to Marcello's (North Avenue) with local friends, 8-10 times in each of the last 10-15 years.  Most of those times I am home watching our dog here in Connecticut, but after she gets back to her hotel, we always speak on the phone about how our days went.  Time after time, year after year, she has made a point to tell me how much she enjoyed going to Marcello's on North Avenue. She delights going over the details of  their dinner--the superb personal, friendly service, and food quality that "makes her night" after working all day.
She describes how her group is always greeted by a happy and friendly staff, and in recent years by a waiter named Zenel (? sp). Â Apparently, he learned years ago that she loves a good sized Martini, and started taking the extra time to stuff olives by hand with blue cheese which he delivers to her almost before they get seated. She most recently LOVED telling me how delicious the "broasted' 4 piece dark meat chicken and grilled asparagus tasted; how her white wine is delivered promptly with the meal; how her group is treated like honored VIP celebrities....only they are just ordinary, everyday people.
I now feel compelled to take the time to look up this magical restaurant that has taken such great care of my wife and her friends so many times, for so many years and post this review to show my appreciation. Â I figured if a restaurant is so consistently outstanding that a husband wants to take my time to look them up and post this "review," then other people should know about it, and also be able to enjoy their great services. Â Thank you to all the staff of Marcello's for taking care of my wife who is certainly a "celebrity VIP" to me.
Oh, Marcellos. Your service SUCKS. We were greeted with smiles by the hosts and sat down in a pretty empty restaurant. We got those good little crackers they bake, to start, with their herb butter. Those were good and we killed two baskets.
Now, on to the food. We waited a long time for our meals. The food was pretty decent, but my uncles lunch came with soup which he got AFTER he was served his meal and HAD TO ASK FOR IT. How long did it take the server to bring it out?! Hmmm....
I had the Fettuccine Alfredo with broccoli (12.95). It was good and enough for two people. My uncle had the roast beef sandwich ($9.95 lunch special, included soup, soft drink and coffee). My aunt had the chicken, dark, with mash (9.95 w/ soft drink). My cousin had the goat cheese flat bread ($9.95) which she seemed to enjoy. My son got the kids mac & cheese with juice and fries (6 something).
I would recommend anyone bringing kids and ordering the mac & cheese, to order one order for two kids. The portions were monstrous.
Our waters were NEVER filled. I had to ask twice to get it filled once and forget about it after that. I cannot stand a restaurant who isn't on top of this!!! In a restaurant like this your water should always be full!!!!!
You would think with a mostly empty restaurant you would get A+ service. Nope. It's not like it's a cheap joint either. I would rather go to another Italian restaurant and spend less for better service. Very disappointed with the service but can't give them less than 3 stars because everyone enjoyed their food.
I will not return unless invited by someone else who really wants to go there... and may try to convince them otherwise!!!!
There are lots of restaurants I go to which I don't even bother reviewing, because they are like those movies where you  neither love nor hate the characters,or the story; and it leaves you feeling blah and uninspired. But after my sixth or so visit here, I feel the need to express my point of view.
On the good side, Marcello's is in one of those suburban type strip malls in the city, and it's easy to park. That's where all the positive stuff ends. With its uninspired suburban blandness and 1986 bnquet hall decor, it feels like an over-sized diner pretending to be an Italian restaurant.
I come here because a client has a strong nostalgic attachment to it. I have worked my way through numerous menu items only to find most of them as bland and uninspiring as a old beige minivan. I will admit that the flat breads are tasty, if over-priced. The minestrone I had today was not worthy of any Italian restaurant claiming to be authentic. But then they have a Chopped Chinese Chicken Salad on the menu and a Southwestern Salad, which I sampled today, because I wanted to eat "light," It was adequate. It was also ordered from the $9.95 lunch special menu. The lunch special menu is a decent value, but almost everything else on the menu is over-priced. If you want want to add grilled salmon to a salad, for example, it's an extra $9.95 on top of the salad price of $10-13.00. You can get a Caesar Salad with salmon at Wilde for about $11.00.
And the service has always been, I would have to say, consistently bad and slow, even with kitchen runners helping a server, as was the case today, and with very few patrons in the dining room. Aching for more water and/or coffee, we wondered if our server went home for lunch. She was pretty much AWOL most of the time.
So if you are missing, for some reason, that bland minivan land beyond O'Hare, or if you want to hang out with a bunch of old politico/quasi mafioso "business men," or just a really uninteresting crowd, by all means come here for lunch. I probably should try their pizza sometime, as I've heard good things. But I think I'll opt for takeout or delivery. I suffer from too much existential malaise dining in. And we have endless and far better choices in Chicago for Italian.
Ok, this place holds a spot in my heart for having the *only* not just edible but delicious gluten free pizza I've ever had. Usually when I'm craving pizza I just make my own. But theirs is fantastic! People, it's good enough that when we order it at our office, colleagues who don't need gluten free pizza eat it. No joke.
Review Source:We tried both their gluten free pan and thin crusted pizza and they did not disappoint. The thin crusted pizza was HUGE at 14 inches. Two could easily share. The pan pizza was a good size.
My biggest complaint was a the price. The GF pizzas are priced as cheese pizzas and every topping is an additional $1.25. You can double the cost of a pizza by making it a vegetarian pizza. Â But for me, the cost is totally worth it. Â
The restaurant was clean and nice and there was free parking! Definitely visit this place at least once.
I order from the Lincoln Park location and this used to be really good pizza but the last two times I have ordered within about a week of each other, the pizza has been disgusting! I had the pizza delivered and it was like cardboard! Both times i had to heat it up in my oven and then basically just had to toss it out. I also got a salad and it was like the scraps at then end. Very disappointing and will not return. Try Naked Pizza for some great tasting pizza. Much better and fresh!!(and no I do not work for naked pizza)
Review Source:A friend of mine recommended Marcellos for an event I was hosting. Â From start to finish everything was top notch! Â Their Catering team was such a pleasure to work with and Anna is a true pro! They were willing to accommodate an off site event too which I'm sure I will be using in the future. Â
The food....oh the food was DELICIOUS!! Â All of my guest complimented how great the service was and how well organized our event seemed. Â Much thanks to your great team and staff for making the experience for myself and my guests so great! We will definitely be back:-)
Took my family for a late lunch consisting of sandwiches and pasta. Food was awful, all of it. Second rate ingredients with third rate cooking. Makes Olive Garden look like Spagos. I don't know why the other clowns here rate this place so high. But I am Italian and I know Italian food. Stay away from here. If you want similar tasting food buy Stouffers.
Review Source:I've had some people send messages asking more questions about my wedding reception here, so here are my FAQs:
Call their catering rep. Â They're very helpful and will help you plan it out!
I didn't do any decorating myself. Â Go see the catering rooms - they're already gorgeous! Â I also wanted to keep it simple on the planning end as much as possible. Â They offered to put tealight candles on the table, which added enough of a nice touch. Â We didn't have room for DJ because we had too many people, but I think they do have a small dance floor. Â We gave them an ipod with a playlist, which they hooked up to the sound system for us so that we could choose our own background music. Â They also had a mic that we could use for speeches, etc. Â They had numbers for the tables that they put out for us, for assigned seating.
We tried some of the food before ordering it for our wedding reception. Â Their chicken marsala is EXCELLENT, but I know not everyone loves mushrooms, so here's what we chose. Â It was a HUUUUGE hit. Â Everyone kept talking about how amazing the food was:
salad
chicken parmigan
twice-baked/stuffed potatoes (yuuum)
ice cream for dessert - we did this instead of a cake. They let us bring in a small ice cream cake for the bride/groom without charging us a fee, as long as it's from a professional bakery
This is a fun place - I think the decor is more upscale, but a lot of families enjoy going here. Â I LOVE the special event/catering rooms, because they're decorated so uniquely.
Definitely have experienced better. Â It was just okay. Â
Nothing really special about the pizza and the pasta was covered in garlic. Â A little goes a long way Marcello's... Tried their delivery last Saturday night with a $5 off coupon. Â Nice they give coupons but you need way more off than $5 to make it affordable. Â Hello its pizza and pasta. Â
For 2 people the total was $45! Â Way way too expensive. Â Disappointed too b/c we just moved to the neighborhood and have been looking for good places. Â I guess its back to Amato's & Lou Mal's.
I'm basing this review on four visits in Oct/Nov 2012. The first three ... I couldn't have asked for better food or service! Very delicious, correctly prepared, and attentive professional waitresses. The thin crust gluten free pizza is awesome and the spaghetti is second to none. Dessert was terrific as well - German chocolate cake, and spumoni ice cream. The bread crisps with butter served as an appetizer to all tables ... out of this world.
However, on my fourth (and probably final) visit on Nov 16, I had an horrific experience. First, I asked for a specific table and was led to a booth next to some noisy children. I asked again for the table and was told it was being held. Held for what? Or who? During my 50 minutes in there, nobody occupied that table nor was the section marked off. Diners were adjacent so I know the section wasn't closed or anything.
I was seated behind a drink station by the front window. Consequently, I don't think anyone saw me being seated. It was a good 12-14 minutes before a waiter came to bring the menus. What??? Hello, I'm over here. Pay attention, get with the program.
An appetizer of garlic bread was cool, not warm, and tasted like it had been prepared hours earlier and held under hot lamps, like in a fast food joint. A side salad ordered with vinegarette came laden with blue cheese. Wrong, sent it back, the replacement came with the meal. What???
We ordered pizza with gluten free crust, chicken, and spaghetti. The chicken was a way smaller portion than served previously, almost half the size, Spaghjetti with marinara was ordered but spaghetti with meat sauce was delivered. Wrong, she is vegan. What???
The table next to us went unbussed afteyr the diners left. We had to sit next to food remnants and gunk, while two staff members texted wildly and a manager-type roamed around looking lost. What??
The only saving grace of this disaster was the spumoni ice cream and the pie .. both served at proper temperature, although the ice cream came without a spoon and it was an eternity before I could get the waiter's attention to grab a spoon. And by then ... yes, the spumoni had half melted.
Shame ... this place had such great potential. Won't be back.
I do Love Marcello's..
Their thin crust pizza is truly one of the best
in Chicago!
And.. today in honor of Halloween Marcello's was offering
a special"Bat Pizza"..
And.. God knows I love anything regarding Bats..
Sorry.. make that Batman..:)
Seriously.. this was a great crispy thin crust sausage pizza..
And.. it indeed was shaped like a Bat..(see picture please!)
So.. this restaurant is lovely and they have a great menu..
And.. they have a bakery attached as well!
Lot Parking Available too!
I may not have gone trick or treating but I did have
a Bat Pizza..:)
This works for me..:)
This is my favorite restaurant. Â I grew up eating at the Logan Square location so my opinion is very biased. Â Ever since the Lincoln Park location opened I have been attending there instead. Â Fortunately I have NEVER had a bad experience with the service or food so call me "Mr. Lucky". Â Love everything about this place except that I live too far from it or I'd probably go once a week.
Review Source:I love this place, we came here at the last minute after our wedding rehearsal and they were able to accommodate a party of 12 with no reservations the staff was very helpful as to how to order (individual entrees vs family style portions). We did family style. The southwestern salad recommended was so good we did a couple of thin crust pizzas for the kids but the adults couldn't help themselves. We had lasagna and chicken omg the the chicken was so awesome and the portions were very generous everyone took home leftovers. We still had room for deserts and they were delicious. We would definitely go back there again they helped us out in a pinch and the prices very reasonable on the bride and grooms pocketbook. Great family place, and did I mention free parking almost unheard of in Lincoln park and we had 4 cars loved it.
Review Source:The boyfriend suffers  from celiac disease so we do a lot of Gluten Free foods. Tried this place out a few weeks ago and we found a  winner!
Prices are reasonable, the regular pizza is good (not the greatest I've ever had, but it's still good) and he states that the GF pizza is amazing- best he's had!
Going to have to try the broasted chicken one of these times the other reviewers make it sound great.
We've done both pick up and delivery- both were fast. $2.95 for delivery in about 30 minutes and the pizza was hot.
One of our go to spots when neither one of us feels like cooking- or it's pizza and a movie date night!
Fantastic gluten free pizza and salad -- possibly the best GF pizza I've ever tasted! We ordered pepperoni and spinach pizza and a huge wonderful salad with lots of fresh greens (no awful iceberg lettuce, score!), veggies and hard boiled eggs. The restaurant itself is on the cheesy chain side, but it's worth it for a wonderful, worry free, gluten free meal! I'll definitely return here next time I'm in the city.
Review Source:Very mixed feelings about this place!
I've been there several times, and I think I can say the food is rather good, so it deserves 3 stars.
Other things bothered me, for example, don't be fooled by the "Marcello's father and son restaurant" sign, as the way it operates make sit very similar to a chain...
I will give it to you it is only a detail!
More troublesome is  the service: Sometimes they interrupt you every two minutes for no reason to know if you are OK, but when you are in desperate need for a refill cause you had too much jalapeno, you can wait for them for long minutes and even may have to call them more than once.
But what really makes it almost a 2 Star rating for me is the way they offer dessert: The guy walks with a tray of desserts and looks down religiously at his desserts to catch your eye. I found it corny, annoying, ridiculous to the point it would be laughable if it was not so pathetic... and it really does not blend with my European culture where we like to just be asked instead of having somebody putting on a show!
I ordered delivery of the Chicken Vesuvio about two months ago and was quite grossed out by the amount of oil in my dish. I was going to write a review and upload the nasty pictures but decided to give them a second chance instead. So last night, when I called in my order I let the order taker know that my last order was full of grease. I told him there was at least a cup of the junk in my last order and if he could please ask the Chef to go easy on the grease. I was extremely disappointed. I got the same thing- Chicken Greasesuvio. $26( with a tip) and some change...for grease. To top it off, they didn't send me utensils.
Marcello's for me is not a place you go to everyday. I expected more. I've been in the restaurant a few times on special occasions. My employer always has Marcello's catered for our Christmas Parties. I drained a full cup of oil into a measuring cup. I'm not a restaurant complainer....I just don't go back is all. I did upload a video of it and showed it to all my friends.
From their apps to their main dishes this place is great. What really separate's their food from other similar places is the service and consistency. I've been going to this location for over a decade and some of their best entrees continue to hit a home run. The fried chicken is tremendous; not only do they provide you with a great product, but their alternative options for flavors are great. The pizza is incredibly unique, the crust happens to be my favorite.
Off the top of my head, I can't even begin going through their menu and naming all of their best items. There are simply too many. More than anything Marcello's is the type of place that demands perfection from its staff and you see that in the repeatedly great service. Even when things aren't perfect, they find a way to make you happy.
I can't recommend this restaurant enough. Magnifico!
A great broasted chicken has been my quest ever since the liquor store in downtown St. Charles stopped selling it. Â That's right, a liquor store got it right.
Marcello's apparently has the best broasted chicken in Chicago according to my Google searches, so I decided to indulge with my husband one night after a long shift at the hospital.
Service was friendly from the start but unfortunately disappointing from then on. Â We waited 45 minutes for our meals after ordering. Â No explanation of the delay or if this was the normal wait time for what we ordered. Â When our food finally came, they forgot a few of our sides which we had to keep reminding the server to bring more than once. Â Our glasses of water sat empty for a good 10 minutes. Â Service here is too relaxed... too slow.
As far as the food goes, my husband and I decided to split the broasted chicken 4 piece dinner (either all white or all dark meat) . Â You can choose different flavors (garlic oregano too salty, country broasted was juicy and had great seaoning) with side & coleslaw. Broasted potatoes were overdone and hard. Â Coleslaw had a great sweetness to it. Â The dinner was definitely enough for two.
Gluten Free Pizza - and they deliver for only $3!
8 inch or 12 inch gluten free with all the great toppings you can imagine. If your feeling adventerous you can also opt for a garlic olive oil sauce and skip the plain red pizza sauce (although that is delicious as well.) If you order online you can easily fill half your pizza with certain toppings, and the other side with many more toppings.
If you sign up for a rewards membership online - you will also get $3 off your order..and probably more offers along the way. A definite must on the speed dial for any gluten free person who wants to enjoy a normal slice of the pizza pie like everyone else in this city.
I had my wedding reception here on the evening of October 1st. Â Very mixed feelings about this place.
Pros:
-We received lots of compliments about the food. Â Along with one MAJOR complaint (covered in the Con section below) Â We went with the bacon wrapped scallops and gnocchi, meat lasagna, grilled veggies, rosemary chicken, Italian sausage, wedding cookies.
-The room was set up very nicely, I put this in the pro just because I was so paranoid it would turn out horribly.
Cons:
-A guest found a piece of metal wire in their salad
-After the ceremony, they refused to serve me (the bride) a drink without setting up a tab first. Â They have our credit card on file!! Â We were spending over 4K here!
-The coordinator Diana has no idea what she is doing. Â Not only did it take forever for her to get back to me but with every question I asked, it opened up 20 more because she would NOT help me. Â She left answers open ended and frustrated me every step of the way. Â She offers no advice at all. Â I had to tell her to please help me because I have never planned a wedding before.
It was a really tough year wondering if things were going to turn out decently. Â All in all the wedding was beautiful and we had a great time. Â I just think there was a lot more effort Marcello's could have put forward to please the folks who are spending a lot of dough at their establishment.
GLUTEN FREE DEEP DISH! :o)
They have the cutest 8 inch Gluten Free Deep Dish here. I like to rock the Spinach, Garlic, Black Olives. The staff is very friendly here and you never have an empty glass of water.
They have a nice sized Gluten Free menu offering up pastas and even a Gluten Free Brownie and Gluten Free dessert pizzas but for me it's all about the deep dish. They do also offer a thin crust Gluten Free.
Hands down, best gluten free pizza I've EVER tasted. Enough said.
OK, maybe I haven't said enough about Marcello's.
Had my cousin-in-law's (is there such a things?) Â big sis not chosen this place for her baby shower, I would have never discovered that gluten free pizza can taste like the real thing. After trying several boutique pizzerias in the DC area, various store brands, and the infamous Uno's Chicago chain, I still had not found anything that remotely resembled how I remembered pizza tasting. Not even close. Uno's pepperoni was probably the most "pizza like," and even that tasted like meat and cheese on a cracker.
Needless to say, Marcello's blew my mind! The crust was supple and chewy...and glutenlike. Let's face it, the crust makes the pizza. I kept the toppings simple, green peppers. I probably should have added some onions, but  despite my lack of flare, this pizza was far from banal.
If you are a gluten free foodie who happens to be in Lincoln Park, please try the pizza. It will remind you of pre-ciliac munchies!
After a breakup you learn that you just have to miss certain things, and move on. After I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I went through the usual (7) stages of grief as I was ending my relationship with Gluten. At this point in my life, I've been flirting with the final stage of grief - Acceptance and Hope.
I've accepted that my body refuses to accept gluten, and I'm consistently hoping that one day I'll be able to love pizza like I used to. Unfortunately, most GF pizza is AWFUL. I have to say though, Marcello's has given me hope. They even have a gluten-free pan pizza! Can you believe it?!?!
If you're suffering from Celiac disease, or if you're trying to be gluten-free or healthier all around - I strongly suggest that you try going gluten-free. With places like Marcello's, being gluten-free is not hard at all!
Thank you Marcello's, and our server (I think her name was Janiz?) for introducing me to gluten-free pan pizza! Unfortunately, I don't live in Chicago, but next time I'm back - I'll be paying Marcello's a visit.
I've been ordering delivery from here forever. They have great burgers, pasta, salads (especially the steak Caesar!), and chicken. My husband loves their pizza too, but I haven't had enough to have an opinion. Or, maybe that is an opinion.
They're pricey, but worth it. I actually crave the steak Caesars regularly.
I haven't been to the restaurant, but I've heard it's nice. Delivery shows up on time and the drivers are friendly.
Marcello's is, in my opinion, a sub-par establishment in dire need of a fire.
When we went the best thing we had was the warm goat cheese appetizer, but unfortunately the cheese was smothered in overly sweet marinara.
Which isn't so bad, but things were picking up speed as we headed downhill.
I like water. Â I almost always have a glass or two with any meal. Â I'm not a dick about keeping my glass topped off all the time, but I don't like it if I need water and there's none to be had. Â And having 3 different servers and bussers walk by my empty water glass on two occasions is not acceptable. Â
So my expectations are slowly lowering and now I'm actively looking for reasons not to like this place. Â And I honestly hate it when I get to this point. Â Because I go from cheering for a dining success to mentally sharpening the electronic stakes that will be plunged into this restaurant's tender underbelly via the interweb... Â
So a busser arrives with our entrees. Â That's not a problem. Â The problem is that our server doesn't follow up and find out if we need anything for another 5 to 10 minutes. Â
My plate of fettucini with meat sauce and Italian sausage was technically servicable, but the meat was unidentifiable and bland; adding nothing to the overly peppery sauce, and the sausage had a strong oatmeal flavor with only a hint of fennel. Â Too much filler perhaps? Â All in all, it was a basic plate of overpriced pap that is eclipsed by that old touchstone of all pasta dishes: Â Top Ramen. Â
And my girlfriend's plate of Chicken Romano arrived crispy, but a bit too much so. Â I asked her if it was supposed to be scorched and burned in places. Â And of all the internet resources I checked afterwards, none mentioned "burning the hell out of it"
Being a forgiving sort, I decided I would try it and see if it was, indeed, burned. Â Oh, hell yeah it was! Â The chicken was dry and definitely over cooked with that acrid carbonaceous tang of breading which has been allowed to move past the Maillard Reaction into what I like to call "NASA Re-Entry" stage. Â Which is when we flagged down our server and informed him that our drinks are empty, we would really like some fake shaky cheese to put on our sub-adequate pasta, and by the way, my girlfriend's chicken is burned. Â
The reply? Â "Oh, you're not happy with how well it was done?"
To which I wanted to reply: "That if it had, indeed, been done well, this conversation would not need to take place". Â
Eventually, we come to the conclusion that there is no need to cook a replacement as the girlfriend is nearly full from the appetizer and the side of spaghetti and meatballs, and could we just remove the entree from the bill? Â We're completely happy to pay for the side dish of spaghetti. Â The server agrees. Â And he has saved the life of his dwindling tip for now...
BUT
The bill comes and true to his word the entree of burned chicken has been removed, but been replaced by the cost of an entree portion of spaghetti and meatballs. Â Which is the final straw. Â I can't even get up the steam to contest it. Â All I want to do is pay the bill, get the hell out, and come here to Yelp and post a warning. Â
It will be a cold day in hell before my shadow darkens the door of Marcello's again. Â And I will do my best to make sure that every time someone asks me where to go for Italian in Chicago, I will preface my suggestion with "Well, don't go to Marcello's whatever you do..."
My friend was kind enough to pick me up from burlesque class. He says, "I got dinner. Some broasted chicken from Marcellos." I expect a roasted chicken. We get to my house and the chicken isn't so much roast as fried. Deliciously fried, with the perfect amount of breading and crunch and spice, and holy crap was it great. And I'd been craving fried chicken for weeks but refused to let myself buy any... it's like the fried chicken fairy visited me to bring happiness (and fatness) to my stomach.
EDIT - the lovely Carol J clued me in - the chicken isn't fried, it's cooked in a pressure cooker!
The best Gluten Free pizza in the city. Absolutely hands-down. And they have delivery to my area, too!
You can get pretty much any topping on your pizza here - I had fresh basil and fresh tomato. The thin and crispy gluten free crust is amazing! I would go so far to say that it was some of the best pizza.... ever (regardless of being gluten free or not!).
Great service, wonderful food, great location with parking (free valet if you want it)!
$11.95 for GF pizza, $1.65 extra per topping.
Thin, crispy, olive oily pizza. Perfect solution to getting myself through the last few days before Christmas vacation...
Delivery was pretty quick, good prices...even though I didn't have to pay!
So, that alone gets it another star.
Good delivery option, also the location has a parking lot.
Edit 3/29/08: My friend and I took our "little sisters" (through Big Brothers Big Sisters program) here for some lunch and board games. The food was actually quite good. The kid's menu was perfect, as the girls had a lot of choices (the usual grilled cheese, et al) got to pick a side, a drink AND a dessert for $6. Very good deal. They were both stuffed! I had the Southwest Chop Salad and it was ENORMOUS.
Service was wonderful, and we had a great time hanging out. Perfect setting for those long, lazy lunches/brunches.
I recently celebrated a five year old's birthday with a cake made by Father & Son. Half chocolate, half vanilla with strawberries between the two layers and a pink whipped cream frosting. Â
The cake was just the slightest bit dry, but the frosting was light, fluffy and just sweet enough. Â They did a fantastic job decorating the cake with pink frosting and clear purple jelly balloons. Â Her little face lit up when she saw the cake and it wasn't long before she was poking the balloons with her fingers.
Pretty cake comes with a price.
If you have little kids, it's hard not to love Marcello's. Is it Tru? No. But the menu is huge and the food is really pretty good (if very standard). Tried their New York style pizza and was very disappointed (soggy!) so I'll stick with my usuals: the broasted chicken and the ribs. What is broasted chicken, you ask? It's a sneaky way to order FRIED chicken without having your mother say, "Fried chicken, honey? Do you really think you need that?" Screw that #*$% woman!
The ribs are surprisingly good if you like falling-off-the-bone and not too much sauce. All the entrees come with cole slaw and a huge portion of pasta on the side.
Mostly, the service here is great for kids. They have high chairs and crayons and paper and everyone (wait staff and busboys) is happy to bring over cookies or whatever it takes to keep your kid happy. If you become a regular delivery customer, you get coupons in the mail regularly. It's not a terrible way to spend an evening with your children if your alternative is Chuck E. Cheese. Plus, the spaces in the parking lot are NORMAL size (not the now-customary tiny) for you people who still insist on driving SUVs despite the threat of having your precious Land Rover keyed.
You know, someday I might actually eat IN the restaurant.
This is the standby for 'But what do YOU want to order?'
They have a little of everything.
I always get the Italian beef. With mashed potatoes instead of fries. I'm a little in love with their cole slaw, too.
The pizza is ok. It's not bad, but I like other places better.
But OH that cake. That chocolate mousse cake. I don't know what they do to that cake, but it very well might be laced with crack or something. It is some of the best cake I have ever put into my face.
My dude tends to switch it up. The combo. The broasted chicken. He wasn't very impressed with the panini he had.
We like it. They are a bit pricey, but the selection is good for our picky picky selves, and the delivery is fast. And I love the boxes. The food is never squashed, it's hot, and it's right.
And that CAKE. Damn.
