I stopped in here and got a couple of slices of pizza and I have to say I was underwhelmed. Â It was a very bland experience. Â The cheese and toppings were ok, nothing great but ok. Â The problem was for my taste preferences the pizza sauce and the crust were not very flavorful. Â If it was my place I'd definitely use a different pizza sauce and at the very least brush some garlic butter on the crust. Â Personally I prefer pizza crusts that have a nice yeasty flavor, but maybe that wouldn't work for other customers. Â Based on the pizza I don't think I'd return. Â However, after reading the reviews maybe I will stop in and try their gyro burger or wings since I read good things about them. Â If my next experience is either better or worse I'll update my review at that time.
Review Source:I have been here twice. Both visits I have ordered the gyro burger with cheese. On my first visit, the cashier was not very attentive and the food was kind of warm but cold on some parts of the meat. I was having my first meal in 12 hours so I didn't complain about the temperature since the taste was good.
On my second visit another cashier served me. She was helpful and friendly. My gyro burger was hot as were my fries.
My friend got me hooked on gyro burgers so I'll keep visiting this place whenever I'm in the neghborhood. Decent price, clean tables and good food.
We had some really good Italian Beef sandwiches on a recent visit to see my best buddy and fellow Yelper, Jean C. The delivery arrived in good time and all was as ordered.
The beef sandwiches were tasty and the meat was tender and lean. Mine was loaded with sweet and hot peppers, both of which were very flavorful without overpowering the sandwich.
I also got some hot wings. They were ok, but not great, but I will certainly take the opportunity to have the beef sandwiches again. Well worth it.
I have to say I've been jonesing for good Italian beef, and frankly, I hadn't found a place who would deliver to us that had the quality I want in my beef sandwiches.  So I put it to my fellow Yelpers and the name Marco's came up.  Okay, sez I, I will  take that chance.
I'm glad I did because what I got was a superior beef sandwich. Â It was everything a good Italian beef sandwich should be, IMO. Â Thin, tender, flavorful, moist, generous, seated on good, crispy bread and loaded with sweet and hot peppers. We ordered them dipped and they arrived with just the right amount of gravy so that the bread held together down to the last few bites, but was tasty all the way down to the end. Â Damn these people are good! Â They know their beef.
Along with the beef we got a large order of fries. Â I'm not nuts about crinkle cut, but these were good. Â They were properly fried so they were powdery on the inside, and (reasonably) crisp on the outside. Â There was just enough food to satisfy without leaving either a lot of leftovers or a pair of people moaning about having eaten too much. Â Not bad for $10 each, delivered, and delivered in good time by a very nice man.
Why not 5 stars? Â Well unless I'm bowled over I don't tend to do 5 stars on first acquaintance. Â And also... their Fizzy Brown choices were RC (ugh) or Diet Rite (better but definitely not my first choice for diet Fizzy Brown. Â If, after a few more meals I'm impressed enough with the food consistently, I may overcome my aversion to RC and award that fifth star. Â Time will tell. Â Until then, if you want really good beef delivered to the Portage Park area, Marco's is the place to call. Â They're polite and professional, and they serve terrific food.
Marco's has the best tasting Italian Beef Sandwiches in the entire city of Chicago. I know, because I've tried them all! They beat Portillos, Al's, Johnny's, Bueno Beef, and even the famous Mr. Beef. Nothing compares to their tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth homemade flavor. Nothing!
Plus, they're clean, fast, fresh, and the rest of the items on their extensive menu are all excellent, as well.
Marco's went all out to increase business they more than double the parking space's, by buying the corner property. Beside that they have the best Gyro's beef, no lamb, cook on a spit fire till crisp. The beef and pizza are very good. and the hot dog's comes with crinkle fries and they have great Broasted chicken. Beside the great Service and much, much more you won't leave Hungry! your sure to come back. P. S. the beef sandwich is packed ! with BEEF! not pre- weighted. The homemade hot peppers are unique your sure to buy more for home .
Review Source:Marco's is one of those places on my mental list when lunchtime arrives at work. Â It's kind of out of the way, but the drive is worth it for their decent food. Â Nothing I have ever eaten here has been mindbogglingly delicious, but it satisfies. Â Prices are a bit high for this type of fare, but I suspect the higher prices are a way to recoupe after Marco's recently upgraded. Â Pizza by the slice is good, cheese fries are as well. Â Some of the guys order beefs and they like them; I am not a fan of Italian beef any way you look at it.
This place is rather small and the usual clientele can be unsavory and boisterous, so don't come here with your young kids unless they have been raised on Maury Povich and Cops all their short lives and have been desensitized. Â For me, it all adds to the atmosphere. Â I love this place for that stuff. Â Don't know why...kinda just reminds me why I love this city so much.
