What a place this is...wow
I went here for Valentines day with my love and it was amazing. I'll keep this review short and to the point!
Service was amazing. Super friendly and helpful. I did not feel rushed at all (especially on a night like that).
For appetizer we ordered the pork belly. It was fantastic. I wanted 3 more plates of this so badly. The bread and hummus that they put out for you was also very good.
I had the most amazing filet mignon! The meat was so tasty and cooked so perfect. This was the best filet mignon I have ever had. It came with a side of mashed potatoes and braised kale. All very tasty!
Also, my usual gin martini with a lemon twist was made perfect.
I will definitely be going back!
Dining in the dark...what an experience!

Getting into the parking area of Market 17, though a part of the Convention Center is rather weird and takes some doing since you have to swing off 17th Causeway then sort of U-turn just before a heavily armed road block which is the security check point for the Port Authority entrance. The Convention Center wasn't always this way. It's just another one of those things that became totally messed up, basically people unfriendly, as a result of 911.
However, locating it is worth it since Market 17 is one of Fort Lauderdale's better restaurants with ever changing menus offering unique culinary experiences. Their ceviche with fennel pollen is certainly one of most inspired and one of the best. Also, if they have it when you are there, the tenderloin of buffalo is truly an amazing treat for any carnivore.
The décor is rather simplistic but classy, the wait staff totally professional and exceedingly helpful.
Though I have yet to have tried it, basically because it doesn't interest me, they are the only place I know of that offers a "Dinning in the Dark" which leaves you totally in the dark, alone, with nothing but the smell and flavors of your food, which answered my question as to why I saw some waiters running around wearing night vision, darn near similar to combat eyewear.
Since the menu changes so frequently as well as the method of preparation it is hardly worth the space for me to elaborate on any specific items, but what I can say is that just about anything you choose you'll generally find to be a delicious result of some of the most uniquely inspired culinary works to be found anywhere. Â
An other good convenient thing about Market 17 is that you can make your reservations directly through Yelp which I find to be a big convenient plus. And also, it's a pretty good indication that unlike some other places they have no reason to fear us. (wink)
We came here for Valentine's Day so it was a pre set menu. I know on hard to judge a place when they are crazy crowded for a holiday. It was raining that night, and wet and cold out. They offered to seat us outside right away, or wait 30 mins with our reservation because they were backed up. I went to the bar and had a glass of wine and decided better to wait. They place inside is nice that night the crowd was fairly young for Fort Lauderdale 25-45 age range. I ordered the lobster with pearl pasta. The quality was very good, the service was good too. I have to say for Fort Lauderdale this is one of the better places to eat.  If  I am in the area I would definately like to go back here on a normal night with the regular menu to try it out. Parking is also very easy they are tons of spaces.
Review Source:I adore this place. My favorite restaurant in Fort Lauderdale by far. Fresh, organic and delicious. I can't wait to go back. A few items I had weren't exceptional (the ceviche, bread pudding) but others were completely outstanding (the summer rolls, tenderloin, affogato). If you're a fan of the farm to table concept and don't mind paying more for that above and beyond quality, go....really, go asap.
Review Source:What a perfect place for a Valentine's Day meal. We came at 4:30 Thursday evening and sat at the bar to order some cocktails. The menu options and layout of the cocktail menu is great - all the prices are there, the ingredients and various liqour options for those who prefer their drinks straight up. I ordered my first ever pimm cocktail. It was called Pimm's potion, and it was the perfect balance of bitter and sweet.
At 5:00 we were seated at the table of our choosing, and ordered the crispy pork belly. The waitress offered us complimentary bread and hummus. The hummus did not have a ton of garlic, and I loved that, plus there was no bad breath problems later. There were two varieties of bread - wheat and french bread. I loved the wheat bread. There were sunflower seeds and flax on the outside and it was dense, hearty and fulfilling. The crispy pork belly came out promptly. The skin was crispy and the inside was perfectly soft. Definitely melt in your mouth good. The bacon date puree balanced out the salt of the pork and the lentils were a great touch.
I ordered the grilled snapper with parsnip puree, braised kale and polenta fries. The fish was salty (for me) on the outside because they crisped the top of the fish, but it was flaky and soft inside. I think I'll order something more unique next time I come. The parsnip puree was incredible, creamy and smooth. While the polenta fries were irresistible. If an entree has those fries, it's worth ordering. Jonathan ordered the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and braised kale. It was cooked to his liking, he cleaned the plate.
We skipped on dessert because the only thing I wanted was the charcuterie board, but I was too full for that. So I heard that they have a reduced price on charcuterie board on the weekdays at 5:00. So I believe I'll be coming back. On normal week days, they have happy hour at 4:30 with half priced drinks and appetizers, but since it was Valentine's day that was not available.
Let's just say I can't wait to go back.
I am giving this restaurant five stars. In spite of its location and patio facing the traffic, the experience was actually perfect. Â The room itself is quite lovely. Â The food was absolutely delicious and excellently prepared. Â I love that all the food is locally sourced and raised organically and humanely. Â It's great too that they offer petit portions so you can have two or three dishes and not feel stuffed. Â The rose I had was exactly what I want from a rose -- crisp, and well balanced between fruit and dryness. Â The server was friendly and prompt. Â What more can one ask for? Â I have been in Fort Lauderdale now for over a month, and this is definitely the best food I have had here.
Review Source:What an odd location for such a great restaurant! Â When the GPS in my car started saying "make a U turn" and I was in front of the convention center, never did I dream that a classy, elegant spot like Market 17 would be in the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center . . .but it is.
But don't let that sway you. Â for once you find this little gem, the food and service will have you coming back again and again. Â And once inside- you have no idea that the convention center looms about you. Â Makes for easy parking for sure!
I went on a Friday night. Â It was a cool night so the sliding doors surrounding the bar area were closed but i bet on a normal night- it would be great to hang here during Happy Hour (til 7) and enjoy a glass of wine in the trendy bar area.
I was seated in the main restaurant which is lovely to look at with cream colored walls, twinkling lights and an overall serenity which was nice. Â They also have a "dining in the dark" feature at this restaurant where you are led to a totally dark room and with servers wearing night goggles you are served your food in total darkness. Â Obviously you have to reserve "Dining in the dark" in advance but it sounds like quite an adventure.
My server, Amanda, was great! Â Personable, helpful, when I told her what I things I couldn't eat, she spoke to the chef and came up with some great substitutions. Â The other nice thing about the menu is that if you cannot make up your mind about what entree you want- you can order two and try them both as the entrees come in two sizes (small for sharing which is about 3oz and large 8 oz) Â perfect for tasting!
I started with the grilled shrimp over grapefruit which was a wonderful taste combination. Â And then for my entree, I had the grouper which the chef made some type of an eggplant puree for me and it also came with currents, parsnips and carrots. Â This was actually not on the menu, but I wanted the grouper and I knew I could eat part of what came with the chicken so the kitchen did a great job improvising.
While it is classy, it is not pretentious. Â I especially like the vibe of the bar area and the people who had stopped in there for Happy Hour. Â And all of the servers are looking for ways to help you . .case in point I was glancing around trying to see where the "dining in the dark" happened and someone walking by pointed it out and gave me the whole run down. Â Loved that.
Market 17 is a great choice for terrific food and wonderful service in the Fort Lauderdale area. Â Check it out!
Amazing. Â Everything about the food, service and experience at Market 17 is fantastic. I can't rave enough about the flavor profile of their menu which ranges from savory to down right delicately delicious. I have tried nearly the entire menu (which they change regularly) and every single dish I would recommend.
Since this is FL, I tend to gravitate towards seafood but had one of the best steaks I've ever had here. You truly cannot go wrong.
Yes, the location is bizarre. This restaurant really deserves prime ocean front property. But once you're inside, who cares! The atmosphere is soft, elegant and the staff are kind and knowledgeable.
I AM A HUGE FAN.
This IS the best restaurant in Fort Lauderdale by a landslide.
Not worth the price. Small portion. Tasty food but plan on paying over 120.00 for just one appetizers and two meals no drinks. Â Sorry not going back. Plus a rude waitress didn't make the evening very special. She seemed bothered that we were a little confused about the menu... I felt like I had eaten a sample and a appetizer hate the idea of spending 120.00 and feel hungry afterwards. I guess it is more of place to taste wine and forgot about the food portions.
Review Source:This is hands down the best restaurant in South Florida. How do I know? I'm a goddamn food genius that's why! We walked in before the dinner rush around 6pm to a very friendly hostess and host which we later found out was one of the owners. How impressive to be at the head steering the ship! Our waiter was hilarious and painted a savory picture of the food before we ordered it. Not to mention some nice cocktails to start the evening. It was prrrrrrrrfect! All of it! The chef is 25 and works like a maniac to have a unique menu daily! It is all organic to make you orgasmic. You can order petite meals and get a variety or order a regular size. The wine was incredible and perfectly complimented our meal. This is now our go to perfect place to be happy restaurant. So if you want to waste your time at other restaurants go ahead we'll be at Market 17 toasting to how sweet we are for choosing THE BEST RESTAURANT EVER.....EVER....EVEE.....EVE...ev....e...
Review Source:My girlfriend and I went here for our anniversary and really enjoyed it. It's not too expensive for the level of class that you get although the portions are a little on the small side; then again the portions at most restaurants nutritionally are probably servings for 8! That brings me to another thing, the food was so fresh (everything is local and what is available that day) and healthy tasting, it was the first time in a long time that either of us had eaten out and didn't feel sorta nasty/guilty afterwards and it did fill us but we did get dinners, salads and shared an appetizer. Their ceviche was sublime, best I've ever had and I used to live in Lima. The salad tasted fresher than I thought possible. I had snapper as the entree and it was very good as well.
The only small complaint I have would be the service and why I'm not giving a full 5 stars. Don't get me wrong, our waiter was friendly, generally very attentive and very helpful when asked for recommendations (we're not super experienced with fine dining) but he did forget to put our salads in and as the restaurant got busier he wasn't quite as attentive as he had been before. I've worked as a waiter before so I understand how this is but I was little perturbed that the salads, when they finally did come, were not comped or discounted. By no means did this ruin the evening though, I definitely would go back and think this place is worth anyone's time.
I feel bad for giving other restaurant 5 stars. Â This is what a 5 star is. Â Did the tasting menu with wine.
1) Roasted beets with arugala, and humboldt goat cheese
2) butternut squash "ravioli", brown butter, roasted macadamia nuts
3) seared wahoo over beet risotto
4) OMG seared duck
5) venison
6) miracle berry nd fresh fruit
This place is a winner- fantastic service, pricey (you get what you pay for). I will be back. It's a Norcal restaurant in the heart of Fort Laud.
The decor of this restaurant is sophisticated and I enjoyed the music and the general ambiance. When I arrived the restaurant was 95 percent empty so I do not think I took up much valuable space. I frequently dine alone and am very comfortable doing so. Market 17 seemed uncomfortable with a solo diner and made me feel like I was being rushed out of there. When I entered, I was told there was happy hour at the bar. After I was seated I decided maybe I would try a southern Florida beer I have not had before and I ordered one. Be advised happy hour prices are at the bar only. My waitress did ask for special permission for me to have happy hour prices, and her request was granted, but I felt uncomfortable creating such an issue over this . I would not have ordered a beer if I knew this was against the policies enforced at this establishment . I ordered the petite size pan seared tofu thinking the regular portion might be enormous. I was wrong again, I paid seventeen dollars for the least amount of product I could ever imagine. I have been to New York City, London, and Paris-all places where food is supposedly expensive, but nowhere else on earth have I ever paid so much for so little food. The food was delicious and thank goodness my meal came with two small pieces of bread or I would have left hungry. In summary the food is delicious, the presentation is excellent, the quantity is scarce -if you are hungry get a full size portion, the petite is for those for whom food is a caloric luxury they seldom indulge in. This is a trendy and chic restaurant  with well prepared and delicious food but be prepared for high priced quality for small sized quantity. I would advise solo diners to go elsewhere. I was also surprised that when my bill was presented there was a piece of paper with it suggesting I write a review for YELP.  If you rush someone with very abrupt service and feed them a ridiculous amount of food for the price you charge I am amused that you would also like this person to write you a glowing tribute.  Tributes from me are earned honestly, and the above is my honest opinion!
Review Source:My wife and I went to Market 17 for the second time a couple of days ago and took advantage of the great happy hour. Â We got a 90 dollar bottle of Chateauneuf de Pape for 1/2 price and 20% off the Charcuterie plater. Â All of the meats were very good except the chorizo, which after having lived in Spain for a year, seemed kind of underwhelming. Â Both cheeses we picked were fantastic. Â Still hungry and thirsty (the happy hour ploy worked on us) we ordered some champagne and ceviche and my wife got a braised lamb falafel. Â All of the food was very high quality, I can't stress enough how good it was, with only one or two minor gliches. Â We spent 160 bucks with tip even with the happy hour deal and 100 or so of that was alcohol. Â I have yet to do anything here other than plate after plate of appetizers and look forward to coming back for some main course options. Â
Complaints: Â This same restaurant concept would be a lot less spendy in a place like New Orleans, where the competion is much stiffer and the palates are a little more refined. Â That is a pretty minor complaint though. Â The location is a bit strange and hidden, but that is S. Fl for you, 200 dollar happy hour spots in a strip mall, what are you going to do? Â Â
Overall, this is a notch or two above the mostly mundane "upscale" dining options in Ft. Lauderdale. Â Yea, you are going to have to spend a bit, but the cuisine is spot on. Â The wine selection is ample and cocktails (i've heard) are well prepared. Â We sat at the bar and the Bar tender was really invested in the success of the restaurant. Â She was very pleasent and knew her menu. Â A boisterous bunch of business convention suits wondered in right after we did en masse, yet the two barkeeps were able to hold down the fort without much ado. Â We had a good time, and enjoyed some inventive well prepared food.
amazing food. odd location.
we went here for dinner mid-week around 9ish. the surroundings are a little spooky (as in a deserted shopping plaza reserved for yacht sales), but the restaurant itself is beautiful....everything (once you find it) from the area reserved for patio dining to the bar and restaurant itself.
they have an extensive wine list and offer mini portions of wine (i believe these were 3 ounces), which i found to be a bit odd. but part of their concept included a tasting menu, so i guess the wine is available for sampling as well.
their ceviche was fresh but a bit dry and bland for my taste, but most places dumb the flavor of their food down for american (and tourist) tastebuds. we had the petite entrees (grouper and snapper), which were both delicious. the forbidden rice was heaven on a plate. i was tempted to order a side of this alone after i tasted it...as well as another petite entree of the duck after i spied it on the table next to us.
we shared a dessert (brownies and ice cream) that was very good as well (but the ice cream seemed overly sweet). all in all, i would highly recommend market 17. the crowd was of varying ages - some people look like they had been there since happy hour, a few families, a few couples, etc.
I thought this place was unique. Â The food was good. Â We tried some various meats and cheeses which was fun. Â The Eggplant Rollatini was different but very good, fresh. Â We split the grouper which was also very good. Â It was great for a different experience but there was nothing about it that leaves me with that feeling that I can't wait to go back although I would go back. Â Just wouldn't be my first choice. Â Our waiter was phenomenal. Â He was actually moving to Missouri to open his own restaurant which I thought was pretty cool.
Review Source:Market 17, we had a good thing going, but your "new, revamped summer menu" leaves a lot to be desired. The restaurant has done away with their two portion sizes and opted to do all small plates to encourage more tastings. However, prices have stayed more or less the same, which can be on the pricey side when most people have to order 2-3 entrees per person to create a meal. Also, the servers haven't gotten the timing quite down to go with a tasting-style menu, leaving you awkwardly stuck for too long between courses.
The food is still good and the real shining stars on the menu hands down are the appetizers and the sides. The eggplant rollatini with orange marmalade/sauce and goat cheese were excellent as were the brussels sprouts croquetas with gruyere. Our entrees were a bit mediocre this visit, with our steak being tough and flavorless and elk loin (which I was so excited for) nothing to write home about. My favorite entree was the slow roasted duck breast, and I think it was everyone else's too, because it flew off the table. For $100 a person though, not including alcohol, I expected better service and a more groundbreaking experience...sort of like my first visit to Market 17.
We were looking for an "upscale" dress up kind of restaurant and came across this in YELP.
I'd say the following about this restaurant
1, Food -- excellent Duck breast, Pork chop good flavor but a bit tough considering the price
2 Service - For a supposed upscale restaurant they need a "shaping up of the wait staff, not very professional...
3 Prices- Fair but the portions ave rather small
I would NOT call this upscale, just good but pricy, and not a great atmosphere.
Are there any REAL upscale restaurants in Fort Lauderdale?
Not since Burt and Jacks, and Sheffields closed....just pricy, and Yuppie..
When my parents and I were vacationing in Ft. Lauderdale a few weeks ago, we had a lot of "okay" meals. Â Market 17 was not only my favorite meal from vacation, but definitely one of my favorite meals ever! Â I only wish I lived closer.
We took advantage of the half price drinks at the bar (happy hour) before being seated. Â We did this at the hostess' suggestion and it was nice and relaxed - we did not feel rushed at all. Â The service was great (a lot of explanation - almost too much) but very helpful.
The extensive wine list and watermelon salad were a great start to the meal. Â My entree was AMAZING. Â Lobster over risotto with balsalmic ... probably would be my last meal on earth if I had a choice. Â I had a chocolat dessert which was decent, but both my parents got the creeme brulee french toast dessert and I wanted to steal theirs because it was sooo good.
Expensive - glad I wasn't paying! Â Amazing!
I was so looking forward to coming here for dessert one night..and it was SO disappointing.
Creme Brulee French Toast- the bread was awful.
The Chocolate Ganche-The toast tips were stale.
Our server charged my card for another table's dinner. She fixed it, but still..was on my Bank Account for like 3 days.
I feel like I wasted my money at this place :(
Market 17 tries too hard.
To be perfectly honest, there's nothing wrong with this place except for the price. The food is very good; but the ceviche, the beet & arugula salad and the sweetbreads were ordinary. Nothing that couldn't easily be reproduced in my kitchen.. The serving size of the sweetbreads was insulting. Two half-dollar bites sitting on top of a very tasty sauce. Still, it's hard to mess up sweetbreads.
I had two of the best old fashioneds I've had in a while; but again, hard to mess up a classic.
The coffee was a bit flat but not bad. The plantain bread pudding doesn't hold a candle to my grandmother's, which is so easy to make and impossible to mess up.
Our waitress was outstanding. The highlight of the meal. Her wine recommendation made my meal.
While this was a tasty meal, it wasn't worth $86. The extra $17 for tip was totally worth it.
This place is out of this world amazing. The atmosphere is chill, nicely decorated and dim lit . You definitely you are going out on the town. Very nice.
At Market 17 you definitely  want pull out your mindful eating skills.  Eat slow and savor EACH AND EVERY bite.  Oh man. Their  food stimulates pretty much every sense. The food is entirely local - straight from farm to plate.
The Avontii is an avocado, cucumber ginger agave nectar drink that was DELICIOUS and super refreshing. Their wine list is also pretty impressive.
The lobster with risotto, beet salad and creme brule french (yes!!!) all made my eyes roll into the back of my head with each bite. A straight up party in my mouth.
The few times my motor mouth isn't going is when I'm either asleep or eating something amazing. And on my date  there was a good bit of silence - but not the awkward kind - it was the "I am so in heaven right how I can't speak its so freaking good. "
Go now, do it!
This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Broward County, and a real standout in an area mostly dominated by...well, mediocre dining. They have a very creative use of farm fresh and organic ingredients and know how to use them. First things first, they have a GREAT happy hour from 5-7 offering half priced appetizers and drinks. Their drinks are some of the most creative in town; I had the Avotini, which was a cucumber vodka based drink mixed with ginger, pineapple, agave nectar, and,you guessed it, avocado, and is a must order if you are into these types of flavors. On the day that I visited, they had two different salads that had some of the freshest greens and vegetables you can find, and definitely showcased their philosophy. I wish I could say the same for their bread service, which was of decent quality, but unremarkable, although the chickpea spread they served it with was a nice touch.
Food- Their entrees are thoughtfully offered in small and large portions, with the small portions allowing you to assemble a meal of as many or few courses as you would like. We had the small portions of grouper, duck, and lobster, and all were cooked as perfectly as they could be, and the accompaniments were thoughtful. For the first course, the lobster had just the perfect amount of butter, and the mild sweetness of the meyer lemon came right through. It was served with a fantastic bacon corn risotto that paired perfectly, and perfectly cooked fresh peas. Second up was the grouper, which was extremely fresh and perfectly cooked, but the dish was so heavy on olive tapenade that I felt it overpowered some of the other delicate flavors, like the eggplant sauce and small piece of flavor falafel. This was good, but could of been much better with just a drizzle of the tapenade. The duck breast was perfectly cooked, and the confit was an amazing associate to the farro and carmelized onions. All vegetables served with the dish were cooked perfectly and mildly flavored, really helping to balance out the richness of the duck. I didn't make it to dessert, but I will next time!
Service- Service was very knowledgeable and attentive, without being one bit overbearing. This is one of the VERY few South Florida restaurants in which I can say that the service is on pair with the price point.
Atmosphere- Sort of like a J.W Marriott: very refined, almost too refined. It is comfortable with a thoughtful level of lighting, but not very intimate and comes off as a little sterile. Very nice overall, though.
For a celebration dinner my husband and I went to Market 17. I'll make this review short and hit the main points.
~Fancy, great lighting and atmosphere
~Menu (which changes daily based on the local selection from farms) was awesome
~Service: top notch
~Food was completely worth the $$$, we enjoyed the Emu
~Wine selection was AMAZ-ING
For a guaranteed beautiful dinner and memorable experience, Market 17 is a hidden gem- will definitely return.
My boyfriend and I are not culinary experts but this place was pretty amazing. Our server Greg was so incredibly wonderful. He truly believed in the restaurant and its mission.
After choosing a bottle of wine off of their extensive list, we chose the 6 course tasting menu. I have to say its expensive ($85) but really a great value. Each course was more fabulous than the one before...especially dessert! Greg offered to let us eat our dessert in the dark room! I have to say, it was awkward at first but a really cool experience.
In conclusion, the food and service are exemplary.
First and foremost, the food and service are outstanding. We opted for the 8-course tasting menu and they did an amzing blend of taste, layers of flavor and absolute surprises with every dish.
But two things just made this experience less than perfect:
1. We were seated in padded benches along the wall. The quality of the seat is what you'd find in an 50 year old diner. You could feel the wood underneath and there was no support at all. The waiter said he's gotten that complaint before and I switched to a chair, but my back was killing me for hours afterwards.
2. The bread was so-so. I was about to experience an amazing meal, and that was not the best way to start it.
If those two little things were fixed, this place would be one of my top 5 places in the country.
I came in Last night with my husband for the first time and not only will I be back but I am recommending this place to all my friends and will DEF be celebrating all future birthdays and anniversaries here from now on. I'll start with the decor since I'm a interior designer- Beautiful! Simplistic color scheme juxtaposed with intricate backsplash and outstanding paintings (which our waiter later informed us the artist is local because they not only support local farmers but artist as well, very cool).
Our reservation was for 6:30 and we we're slighty late but despite that the hostess still offered us a drink at the bar to take advantage of the happy hour cocktail prices (half off) and carried our drinks to the table herself as soon as we ordered (saved about $15). Once seated she took my white napkin and replaced it with black with the comment "I'd hate to see your beautiful black dress get the white linen all over it, please let me offer you black." AMAZING! I've never seen sure care to detail so early in the meal.
Our server greeted us in about 2 mins and offered water, we ordered tap considering we were more interested in wine. Wine list was huge. A little too big for me because I couldn't decide between the 400 (not joking) bottles they offered. My husband was a tad bit dumbfounded as well but it turns out both owners are sommeliers and they were both we're present so Eric? came over and helped us narrow down our selection to a Pinot Nior, Chehalem which was wonderful and complimented my husband Bison. Â
We didn't bother with bread service and went straight for appetizers. We ordered the charcuterie & duck confit collard rolls. I have to say best sausage we have EVER had. I honestly couldn't believe they were made IN HOUSE! My husband was in love with the mustard because it was a double chocolate stout beer based grain mustard. The duck rolls we're beautiful. They were garnished with crispy leeks that reminded me of fireworks exploding they were so carefully placed into each roll. They were so yummy and guilt free because they were wrapped in a collard green leaves.
The main courses took a little bit longer but we excused it considering the restaurant was 100% packed. I had the red snapper, this is the moment where I truly realized how important farm to table & fresh fresh food really is. I've never enjoyed fish so tasty & delicate. Honestly it may be the best thing I've ever tried in my life, my husband felt the same about the Bison. I would have loved to try it but unfortunatly I don't eat game meat.
We were too full for dessert but started talking to our waiter about the 'dining in the dark' private room they offer. We were disappointed to hear it is normally booked a month in advance but it turns out the last guest just left and he gave us a private tour! The night vision googles are beyond. We can not wait to try dinner in pitch blackness next time! Overall, I can't describe how much I love this place! Our anniversary is in 2 months and not only will we be celebrating there but I wish I could go back in time and redo my wedding to include all of Market 17's menu & wine list! Fab find! Absolute must.
We had a party of 6 last night for the Dining in the Dark experience. My fiance and I had been there twice before, once for dinner and once for brunch and both times the food was phenomenal.
Last night's experience completely blew us out of the water!! The experience is a bit awkward at first, because let's face it... who is completely comfortable in the dark, much less eating in darkness! The waiter, was great, explaining everything and very cautious and polite when placing the food/drinks on the table. The 8 courses was a bit much, in terms of amount of the food.. However, every dish was out of this world!
This is an experience that every foodie needs to do!
So we went here on my roomie's birthday to celebrate and we made a late reservation. The only downside was that even though there were only a few tables occupied in the restaurant the service was a bit slow. The waiter was really helpful in explaining to my friends how a prixe fix menu worked and we ended up choosing the Chef's choice tasting. Each dish presented beautifully with a lot of flavors. The only vague thing that may not be good for non-adventurous people would be selecting game as your entree. I love tasting and trying new things this was great, but just wanted there to be a disclaimer for those people. Game meat may not always be lamb, bison, or whatever is in the meat entree section of the a la carte menu.
I decided to order the game entree anyways and asked if would be bison. The waiter wasn't sure, but he would ask the chef anyways. When the waiter came out with the dish he asked me to taste it and try and guess what I was eating. The red meat was so tender and juicy...and it's not bison, or lamb, or beef for that matter...I couldn't make any guesses. He told me to think 2 legged animals...I was stumped because I could only think of 4 legged animals. Haha. In the end he told me I was eating emu and boy was it tasty. It was the first time I had ever tried it and Market 17 sure does know how to make an adventurous eater at ease.
I very much like that this place uses ingredients from around the area supporting local growers and will come back again granted I have money to every time...
My husband and I are visiting Ft. Lauderdale from NYC and decided to have dinner at Market 17. We enjoyed dinner so much, on our first visit, that we came back for their happy hour the next day and we've now booked a table for New Years Eve!
The food is absolutely amazing, from appetizers to entrees to desserts, everything is spot on. Our favorites appetizers were the sautéedmussels inwhite wine cream sauce, orange citrus vanilla ceviche and the pork belly. For entrees we enjoyed the grilled Cobia and the Duck breast with confit - both had amazing flavors and were cooked to perfection. For dessert the triple layer key lime mouse was fantastic!
Overall a wonderful experience, nice ambience, good service and excellent food - we'll definitely be going back next time we're in Ft. Lauderdale.
Second trip down to Ft. Lauderdale.....and couldn't pass up the opportunity to go back to Market 17, however, I was nervous that they couldn't live up my first visit - which was stellar! Â Well....YES....absolutely fantastic AGAIN! Â Our waiter, Boris, was FANTASTIC and everything we ate was AMAZING! Â
We had a fabulous bottle of Tempranillo and started with wild boar sliders with a cranberry barbecue sauce and rabbit empanadas with a parmesean cream sauce - HOLY YUMMO! Â
For the main course, I had a pork dish with fingerling potatoes, roasted corn and something else.....it was delicious! Â This place knows how to do pork right! Â My hubby had the duck...which was also wonderful!
To top the night off, we had the monkey bread - always DELICIOUS - Paired with a wonderful honey ice wine rounded out another wonderful evening at market 17.
I'm shocked at how the place isn't crazy busy - their location kinda stinks because they are off any beaten path, but it's almost a blessing at the same time because they are a true hidden gem....it's a MUST everytime I'm in FL! Â If you're a 'foodie'.....you will LOVE this place!
I've been meaning to try Market 17 for a while. Â They have a fresh menu daily which sounds really interesting and intriguing to me.
As an appetizer, we ordered the housemade charcuterie which was a mini platter with duck sausage, prosciutto, ham, pickled veggies, and goat cheese spread. Â It was very meaty but actually very good. Â It was different than anything I have tried before and we cleaned the plate. Â It was also a large portion size, which I was pleasantly surprised about.
For dinner, I ordered the snapper over black fennel and my husband ordered pan seared skin on duck breast.  We each ordered the half sizes since we assumed based on the appetizer, it was probably not that small.  When we received our food, I found the portion sizes to actually be  smaller than our appetizer.  My advice is if you are hungry- order full size or add an side- which was what we did.  We ordered roasted potatoes, which were good, but no match for my husbands potatoes.  We were both left pretty satisfied with our entrees though.  It was not too heavy, fresh, and delicious.
As far as service, it was definitely top notch. Our waiter was very attentive, he refilled our drinks promptly, and was very knowledgeable about the food on the menu when asked about it.
I'm between two and three stars on this one. Â Perhaps Market 17 is the best that Ft. Lauderdale can offer and I'm being overly particular.
The one thing I liked was the wine list. Â According to my oenophile dinner date the list was good and fairly priced. Â
Things that didn't blow me away included the lobster, the charcuterie and the farm egg. Â They weren't awful they just weren't the amazing delights I had been promised.
Things I totally hated, smokers that completely surrounded us and the fact that they kept running out of things I wanted to eat. Â I know it's outside seating but have a non smoking section please. Â Unforgivable is the fact that it took THREE hours to eat our meal when several other tables around us finished in two. Â Not only was I crazy tired and grumpy but the one thing I had really wanted to eat (monkey bread dessert) which the waiter recommended to me as he was finally clearing away our plates mysteriously RAN OUT....as I watched two other tables that had been seated well after us but managed to get their food much faster ate the last available portions.
Complaints to the manager resulted in a monkey bread dessert with a slightly different caramelized banana topping and some sort of discount which my date didn't ask for nor care about. Â
It was nice that the manager was understanding and apologetic about the service but I could only recommend this place to nouveau riche non foodie smoker types that will get sloshed on cocktails before dinner and not care what the food tastes like nor how long it takes to get it.
Since arriving in Ft Lauderdale earlier this week for a conference, I have been severely disappointed by the state of food here in the city. Granted, I've had to eat at the hotel quite a few times and that in itself was torture, there have been several times that I have been able to venture out.
Market 17 was not one of those disappointments.
We arrived late, 10.30pm I think. The restaurant was mostly empty but our server was lovely, I can't remember her name but she was menu knowledgable and patient with my dinner mates, whom had never been ton a farm to table restaurant.
The food was AmAzing! Â The charcuterie board was delicious, I have the butter poached lobster, which I am not usually a huge lobster fan was delectable. Cooked perfectly.
Definitely the highlight of my trip to Ft Lauderdale thus far.
Absolutely amazing!!!!! Â I won't make this super long, I took my wife here for our first anniversary. Â We got the 4 course tasting with wine pairing. Â Everything we ate highlighted the natural flavors of the main ingredient with sauces and sides that compliment, but not dominate the dish. Â highlights for me were the Red Farro Chicken, Duck Confit Spring Rolls, Ceviche and the Antelope. Â
The service was amazing as well. Â We walked in and the hostess and manager both wished us a Happy Anniversary. Â Our server was very knowledgable and passionate about what they are doing at the restaurant. Â The time between courses may be long for some, but we found the timing just right.
The wines were great. Â I enjoy wine, but am in no way an expert. Â I greatly enjoyed trying a different wine with each course.
I highly reccomend trying this restaurant.
