I visit denver from England and this is without doubt the best place i have found to eat. Prices are good and food isa excellent. Gets busy but that is a good sign. Great staff. I have never wrote a review before so it must be good

When I first stumbled upon The Market; it was cold outside and myself and my friend were just looking for a place to get some Gellato; oddly enough. When I stepped inside, I immediately loved the atmosphere. The menu is large and they serve multiple drinks that are both creative and oh-so tasty! There is an upper area where there are additional tables; cool off-the-beaten-path type of things to buy; and a whole deli, hot food, and dessert area tastefully  done with a rustic feel. Their fresh fruit cake, I cannot remember what it is called, but it is sooo heavenly good!! I love coming here, it is the perfect place to come after a day of shopping or hanging out in the down town area. Full of character and some quite tasty items!

    EEEEEWWWWWWWWWW GROSSS

Went for coffee the other night and made me want to vomit!!!!

The lady behind the counter was cleaning the floor with these blue gloves on, she came up and asked what we would like, I ordered a latte, she proceeded to make it with the same dirty gloves she had on while cleaning the floor, even touching the lid to put on the coffee with the dirty gloves.  This was a Thursday night and no one was in there.  Oh did I mention she took a personal call from "her kids" while she was helping us!  I was with a friend who doesn't like people complaining so I walked outside and threw my latte away.. DO not waste money here.  There is a sign at the counter that says, "Friends don't let friends drink at Starbucks" Well I would have rather had a Starbucks if that says anything.

Love coming here to eat. There is something for everyone. But make sure you know what you want when you get up to the front. The staff doesn't like to wait for you to go "ummmmm, let me see."

If "The Market" was a movie, it would be a Chick-flick.  An adorable, cute-as-a-button place, great for chatting with your BFF's.  While you could bring your laptop, don't.  Instead, this is just more suited to sit outside on a nice sunny day, sipping on a tea with your little finger out.

Located in the cool Larimer Square, this is part of great shop after great restaurant, and great shop after great restaurant.  Stop in, but then...just make it part of a great day stroll.  This is like 3 shops in one - a coffee/bakery, packaged items, and a deli counter with made-to-order sandwiches, soups, and salads.

Perhaps you're staying at a nearby hotel (Four Seasons, Hyatt, Marriott)...and want to pick-up a few items for your room...perfect!  Bring your kids?  Oh sure, at your own risk!  Lots of easy picken stuff to knock down or eat while you're not looking.

What didn't I like?  The metal back chairs with wobbly tables, the femme feel (not that there's anything wrong with that), the DIY and thin drip coffee, and the uncovered baked goods left open to public to get them-self and pay for it at the register.  Um, no...that's just not sanitary, Inspector.

Meh, so-so, alright, blatantly mundane. The espresso was passible although not by much. Better than Starbucks but barely. Also the interior is weirdly arranged. There are rows of tables that no one can get to. Eh, I'll keep on walking.

Looking for a quick bite before seeing "War Horse" at Temple Buell, we boot scooted to The Market.  I've only ever bought candy here but love the old comfortable feeling. Plus looking around you find little goodies tucked away waiting for a discovery.

Tonight we were looking for substenance. The hubs ordered a turkey sandwich with tarragon mayo. Already this was a bit more original with the tarragon. He thought it was a good solid sandwich. No complaints!

I ventured to the hot food area and came away with the green chili polenta. It was a huge piece and when I asked if I could have half was told in an indifferent tone, "no!"  No understanding that I'd like to fit in my clothes in a week or that I didn't want to be bloated and sitting for three hours but I digress. It was very good and I ended up eating most of it. Damn you employee that knew I couldn't eat just half! It was appropriately spicy yet retained a nice corn flavor.

We couldn't help but notice that with all the coffee products around, the staff seemed quite tired and lackluster about their jobs which was perplexing.

I did come away with a container of Hammond's butterscotch balls which is my candy of choice from there. It's the little things in life to be happy about right?!

Best bakery around Lodo area.  Generous prepped food selection.

A complete delight, everything from the eggs, to the quiche, to the upside down cake were absolutely delicious.  If you're looking for breakfast or lunch in downtown Denver you should definitely stop at The Market.

The food is delicious! Highly recommend the breakfast pastries, green chili, and homemade ice creams. The croissants and pineapple upside down cake were good. They layout is a little confusing, but you get the hang of it fairly quickly.

There is no better place downtown to grab a coffee and a pastry (or a late night slice of cake!).  This place is an institution in Denver that seems out of place in Larimer Square due to its value, warmth and charm.  I am always surprised what I can find on the racks in the back of the store.  I have been there twice in the past two weeks... slowly working on becomming a regular!

What a little gem.  The looks like a small little store front, but its a big place with a lot to offer.

I went to meet a friend who is a regular.  I expected the usual suspects of some sandwiches and some bulk salads and such.  What I didn't expect was some of the tastiest looking hot items I've seen in a while.  I didn't try them, but the meatloaf and the beef enchiladas looked amazing.  Not only do they offer a slew of sandwiches and salads, they have full menu of hot plates (including traditional Thanksgiving meals).

I had the vegetable minestrone and partook in some of the complimentary fixin's to go with it.  The zucchini bread was delicious.  Also, my soup was plenty of food and it was just over $4.  Cheapest lunch I've seen in a while.

Don't be thrown off by the surroundings.  It's an older building and a well-established restaurant.  The place is busy, packed, and somewhat hard to map out.  Luckily, I was with a regular to keep me in line, but it may take you a bit to figure the system.  The employees were patient and grateful to help though.

I will go back.  I will explore what they have to offer and try to drink more of it in now that I know what to expect and won't be wide-eyed.

It's definitely worth going to if you're in the area.

Walked up here both mornings this past weekend for coffee while I was in town. The coffee and muffins were good, but the staff was not very friendly and seemed annoyed that they had to explain to me how to get bakery items. The atmosphere was nice enough and seating was easy to find. I would return - but only to get the coffee to go.

When I was told we would be going to The Market on Larimer Square I was super bummed because I really wasn't in the mood for an overpriced half way decent breakfast. Boy could I have been more wrong?

I got the Breakfast burrito and a cup of hot chocolate and Claire C and Ali B got a breakfast pocket with an Americano and burrito with an espresso respectively. The burritos were great. Warm and filling with potatoes and meat and just oodles of goodness. We didn't think the breakfast pocket was quite as good as the burritos but in no way was it bad at all. All the hot drinks were just what the doctor ordered. The barista told me about the hot chocolate and it is fair trade and organic. As if I needed a reason to like hot chocolate any more than you already do! The Americano reminded Claire C that it really is one of her favorite coffee drinks ever and Ali said the espresso was good enough to go back for alone. They also have a hot toddy list. We are planning an evening down town just to try some of them out. Let's hope I don't end up sleeping at the office that night...

The way the market is set up is with different counters that serve different foods and drinks. It takes a few moments to gain your bearings especially when there is a crowd at the coffee station right at the front door. Be brave continue on in! The deli counter is where the real magic happens, although the pastries looked pretty spectacular.

I will return market and I will be eating my way through this place for years to come!

I was in town for a business trip and my co-worker swore by Spring Fling, so of course we had to stop by. The cake is to dieeeeee forrrrrrrrr. I wish they delivered because I tried making this on my own and I quit after the second step. Shit's hard! How the hell do you grease and flour a pan?! Needless to say, in the five days we were in Denver, we stopped by The Market thrice. I gained a whole new experience and probably a couple pounds.

While we were ordering one night, the guy behind the counter said, "You know, some people say I taste like spring fling," which might have been creepy but we're not too well-versed with Denver swagger.

I love this place!  Even if you bring a large group, there's something for everyone.  Great coffee shop in front that knows how to heat Rice and Soy milk without burning it (big deal, believe me), sandwiches, hot meals, soda fountain, and the most amazing cakes you have ever seen!  Also an assortment of chocolates and teas you won't find elsewhere.  Only one criticism: the tables and chairs are usually clumped up and tangled with each other, so it's hard to maneuver with stuff in your hands.

I took my parents here when they came to visit this past Thanksgiving weekend.  As many people have mentioned, the layout and ordering process is confusing... this is especially true when it comes to ordering multiple meals on a single ticket.  Because they do not write down your order, you have to tell the person at the register what you meal consists of.  In the case of a large group, this means that one person most remember everyone's meal or the entire group has to stand in line at the register to say what they had.  Moreover, the fact that they take each order individually... and there can be upwards of a 5min gap between each order being filled.. the first person's order ends up sitting at the counter for an extended period of time.   It's slightly frustrating to say the least.

That being said... the ordering process is not the reason why I rated them as 2 stars (as the owner mentioned in a response to a review below... it's a 100 yr old building and they are doing the best that they can with the space that they have).  My rating is a direct result of the terrible customer service provided by the woman at the register.  She was exceptionally rude to my father in the way only a pretentious Portlandia-esque-Generation Y-cafe worker can be.  While "I" understand that kind of attitude and have learned to tolerate it over the years, my "parents in their late fifties" were very hurt by her condescending attitude.

On the other hand, the older and younger gentlemen that took our order and made our food were the epitome of friendliness and warm customer service. They honestly made you feel like you were a guest in their home and they were going to whip you up a meal.  The woman at the register should take a cue from them in terms of how to deal with customers.

I kind of don't get why this place is so popular. Yes the spring fling cake is kind of good and unique but the rest of the food was so not fresh. It sits in the display case all day long. I could also totally envision them just turning off the lights at the end of the day, leaving all that unused food in the case for the next day. Gross.

This was my first time there and yes, it is very confusing. Although, they do have a sign that tells you "how it works," which helped and it shows they know their set up is weird and are sort of addressing it. There are several counters that you have to order from and you pay at a central cashier. They weren't so good at giving us suggestions as to what to order either. At least put star stickers on the menu or something to say what's popular or what they're known for. I ordered a turkey with cranberry and cream cheese. It was pretty okay but honestly I could make that easily at home. My dad had the Reuben and it was very boring and standard. He also had two sides: artichoke pasta salad, and the black bean and rice salad. I liked the artichoke pasta salad better, but neither of them were so great that I'd need to eat them again.

We went in the evening time and the crowd was just a bunch of single individual men scattered throughout the place, giving it a sort of depressing vibe.

If you are ever in the area, you must try their 'spring fling' cake. I am not big into cakes, or sweets, but this cake is to die for.  It's a zucchini cake with fresh fruit and cream cheese filling. Heaven.

I think I love this place the most for the nostalgia. It reminds me of when I was 15 and would leave the suburbs to head downtown, drink insane amounts of coffee and Italian soda, and smoke (back when I still smoked and you could still smoke in restaurants). Now when I go as an adult I still enjoy it for the memories but also the people watching.

    A few notes:
~The food has always been good, nothing amazing but better than a fast food or chain for sure.
~The desserts are amazing. So it's a great place for a sweet treat.
~The staff has always been hit and miss. There are some fun characters and some that are a bit on the rude side.
~You will either love the layout and find all the options great or you will hate it and find it irritating.

All in all it's still a great place to go after 20 years. It's especially great for post-theater dessert or summer time ice cream (get the blueberry cheesecake ice cream).

We love spending our Sat. mornings here. I LOVE that my latte comes in a BIG white saucer and their breakfast sandwiches are AMAZING. I get the bacon, egg and cheese on wheat toast. They have awesome jams too. We love their breakfast so much we were pumped when we decided to pick up some sandwiches to have a picnic with...4 starts because lunch is not as good. My hubby did love his pastrami sandwich. But I was not as thrilled withe the bread choices at lunch and my chicken salad sandwich had way too much mayo. BUT go for breakfast!!!

A friend and I were going somewhere else, but they were unexpectedly closed for the day, so we ended up here.  Quite by accident, I'd managed to find a place that delighted my salad-loving friend!  I hadn't realized it, but the sheer variety of salads made her squee.  They do have a LOT of different salads, most of them with some meat/chicken/shrimp.  They also have a lot of pasta salads.

I don't do salad, but the apricot pork loin with mashed potatoes and gravy was DELICIOUS.  I really liked the hummus too.

Food was pretty good but the line?
The line is like a page from the Soup Nazi's how to run a restaurant handbook.
Ordering is a pain and some of the staff are not as helpful ...
The line is really a gaggle of people on smartphones and it's easy to cut line.
Ambiance and atmosphere are important, this place fails ...
    Too much stress for lunch.

Busy busy busy, but still served quickly and found seating!

I loved the breakfast burrito with green chile, and the coffee was great.

Only negative...the barista acted like us being there ruined her whole week.  Pretty sure she never even made eye contact.  And we just got a latte and coffee...nothing crazy.

This place is great to grab a cup of coffee and tasty pastry on your walk through the city.  Its in a great little area that offeres a lot of shopping and strolling.  The market has fresh pastries made daily that are tasty.  My mom and I got an apple strudel and a sticky bun... so delish.  We sat outside and enjoyed our breakfast in the sun as we people watched.  We also walked by for lunch to check out the items they had - looked great!  Its a very casual place as people meet up there after bike rides or in workout clothes.  You order from the counter and take it to your seat as you read a paper or kick back and relax...

I've always passed by the Market and stopped in a couple times for coffee, but my sisters ordered a cake here and it was phenomenal, literally changed my life!
I'm not too big on cakes, but the spring fling cake that they make here is too amazing to pass up. I never even knew that there was a deli and bakery in here either, so that was a great discovery and made me like this place even better.

Overall, great experience and the food and coffee is a blast in your mouth!

Is it a coffee house, a wine store, a food market, a candy store? It's all the above, I guess, and it does it all very well. The food is soooo good. My favorite are the salads. Try the chilled gnocchi salad or the lemon noodle salad...yum! Everything that they sell is high quality. The only down side is that they can get pretty busy and the line can get long, but it is worth it!

Had a prosciutto and provolone sandwich for $9 at lunch. It was terrible. Wife had a turkey sandwich. It was average tasting but poorly prepared. We shared a cous cous salad that was soaked in oil - terrible.

If you're gonna charge high prices then at least delivery on something...The food quality is atrocious , the ordering is not pleasant, and the environment is far from relaxing.

    We'll not be returning.

I love visiting the market. It almost makes me feel like I'm in Seattle for the day.

This place has loads of charm and character and I have yet to experience it when every table wasn't packed out.  There's an older gentleman that works here who I see on every visit and he is so stinkin' cute and always offering new food ideas or wanting to clear a plate for me.

They offer the tastiest foods, from sandwiches to pasta to meatloaf, to turkey and cranberry sauce.  Oh and coffee and pastries. If I lived nearer to here, I'd weight 250 lbs and I'd be fat and happy having every meal here.

    Never again.  Ever.

The Market has never been on the list of my favorite places.  But today, my experience was so bad that I will never go back.

I asked for my salad.  Fine.  I went to stand in line to pay.  The "line" was more like a group of people.  So when I thought it was my turn, I stepped forward and then realized that I had cut in front of someone.  I apologized and told him to please go ahead.  The entire exchange took 4 seconds, tops.

While that was happening, the lady at the register said, loudly enough for everyone to hear, "Come on, hurry up, I'm not standing here all day!"  It was said in a very snide tone and it was plain rude.  And this was at 1:50 in the afternoon, not right during the lunch rush or anything.

Another cashier came up and helped me while the comment maker was helping the other man.  And the comment maker was still snarling insults under her breath.  It was the most classless thing I've seen in awhile.  And my friend who was with me agreed.

In summary, I won't be back to The Market.  They're just too good for the likes of me.

I can only explain the service as unorganized chaos. I'm sure the plan sounded cute to the owners - but anything that needs a "how-to" guide is no bueno. There is little room to walk around, and the stock they use is usually in the way. Not to mention ordering and paying from different areas and only one item being taken as an order at a time.

But, apart from that, the food is pretty damn delicious! All the pains we went through trying to figure out what was going on was totally worth it, because that food was rockin'!
I had a giant waffle that I covered with our shared toppings of infused butter, whipping cream, syrup, and strawberries with eggs and bacon, and left stuffed and happy.

Will venture to again - but this time we know how to do it!

Oh my. Market is so. so. good.

I came by lateish and tryed their Salmon Salad sandwich and it was outstanding. Great bread and they dont overdo it on the mayo situation. Also the staff is SO nice and helpful. They also make a mean cappaccino which honestly isn't what we are all looking for?

The location is perfect it you are walking around LoDo but tricky if you plan on driving. I'm not sure if I'm mesmerized by the lights of Larimer but I am confident I love this place.

Just cozy-awesome-wonderfulness... Did I mention cream puffs?
This place has all sorts of--everything. I love walking in and seeing all the beautiful desserts (cream puffs!!)
Such a great place to hang out, eat anything, from sandwiches to pasta to amazing sweets and just disconnect from the busy city.
It's not an upscale place, but it has such a wonderful feeling that you can't find anywhere else. It is places like this that keep me away from corporate/franchised places.

I love the vibe at the Market. There's the in-and-out coffee & pastries just inside the door, and then that "stay and browse a while" feeling when you head up the stairs. On our recent Sunday morning visit, the bakery had just finished a giant sheet cake covered from edge to edge with glazed fruit. I wanted to follow it out the door to wherever it was headed.

Our breakfast was flavorful, generously sized, and down-to-earth. No frou-frou garnishes here - just good food served quickly. No coffee this time, but I know the espresso drinks to be quite good. And you can't miss with anything from the pastry counter.

You know what would bring out that fifth star? If you brought back all my favorite French and Belgian chocolate brands. I miss the Côte d'Or and Café Tasse bars I shopped for last year. Bring 'em back!

    Can I live here?

Located in Larimer Square, this is the most "casual" eating place in that area.  Fresh brewed coffee and pastries in the front lure you in.  When you walk deeper inside, you find that you can buy bulk coffee beans as well as more sweets: huge slabs of red velvet cake, chocolate cake, cheesecake, etc. as well as various gourmet candies.

Great place to sit down and enjoy the beautiful Denver scene while snacking on something decadent.  Will definitely be back!

    Awesome atmosphere. Worst service ever.

    1) Tonight I ordered coffee. The lady behind the counter said "I'm sorry we're out of coffee but we can make you an americano". I don't like americanos so I said, 'that's ok'. The lady said "so you're just going to sit there and not order anything". I got my stuff and left, and I'm not going back.

    2) A while ago I ordered a muffin. I paid for it, and waited for the guy behind the counter to give it to me. He said, "You just grab it yourself... I have to say that about a million times a day."

    3) I've been there when employees were actually skateboarding in the store, trying to do jumps on the hardwood floor. I went there to get work done and needless to say it was very loud. I was in shock at what I was witnessing.

I recently spent about a week in good ol' Denver, CO. Hands down, my favorite place I discovered during my stay there was The Market. I went here every morning for breakfast and coffee.

I love the whole self-serve vibe this place has going on. It can be a bit overwhelming because there is just SO MUCH to choose from. You can have any kind of sandwich you could think of, with any kind of additions, on bread you've never heard of before. The cooks are friendly and really appreciate when you know what you want. They give you that whole side-wink and nod business, with an "I gotcha, buddy" look and a subtle Obama smile. SWOON.

My favorite food item was the breakfast pocket. Oh man! I wish more things came in pocket form!

I was impressed with the coffee as well. The roaster is Allegra, which I hadn't much considered before (that's what they serve at Whole Foods), but I did have a very nice Costa Rica which kinda blew me away. So, okay Allegra, a point to you.

I would highly recommend anyone passing through Denver to check this place out. Anyone who lives there already hopefully knows about it!
