Okay, not as good as it gets for CHICAGO, but it's as good as it gets for this particular section of the neighborhood and I'm annoyed that Real Azteca has a better overall rating than its replacement. So, STARS!
Marko's is MUCH better than Real Azteca. Their food was kind of bland and not quite right. Maybe Andersonville people don't really understand Mexican food? This is about the closest I've found to your standard Logan Square taqueria without having to go much further north on Clark. The carnitas tacos are great! Â The family that runs the place is really sweet and friendly. A good source for a cheap, fresh, tasty meal.
This review is for the Marko's Tacos on newport. we have eaten here 3 times, and have some favorites now. Â the echiladas mexicanas de pollo was oustanding. Â you cant get red mole dishes just anywhere, ya know! Â these were perfectly prepared with TASTY beans on the side. Â rice is also good. Â the torta puerco en mole was also outstanding. Â their barbacoa tacos are among the best we have ever had anywhere in our travels, tho we cannot say the same for the tacos al pastor or the chiles rellenos, sadly. we will happily drive down from edgewater glen anytime except when cubbies are playing!
Review Source:Not going to lie and say this is one of the best taco joints in Chicago, but in terms of convenience, it's great. There is nothing more to Marko's but very cheap prices and decent home-style Mexican food. They do have the typical extensive Mexican-restaurant menu, but I stick with their tacos. Their taco de carne asada never fails. They load enough meat on to make a few tacos a decent meal. They also use El Popo tortillas, which are a favorite. Marko's is great for quick take-out, but give eating-in a chance. You can enjoy some tv novelas with your complimentary chips and salsa and, if you're lucky, they serve you a cup of home-made soup (always different).
There isn't much for cheap Mexican tacos in Andersonville (El Norte doesn't beat Marko's) so I will continue to support this delightful neighborhood establishment.
My gf and I went out to get some fresh air after being couped up these last few days with cold weather and while we were walking around we got hungry. Â We were walking north on Clark St and stumbled upon Markos Tacos. Â We wanted something cheap so we decided to check it out. Â We ordered a Burrito Suizo to share. Â They brought us chips and salsa that were very good and also they brought us each a cup of cream of broccoli soup which we found random but pretty decent. Â A few mins later the server brought us our burrito and it was HUGE! Â We cut it in half and each of us barely finished our portion before we we stuffed! Â We both thought that it was very very good. Â Was it the best mexican I have ever had? No but for $6.06 for my gf and I to each be completely stuffed it was definitely worth it. Â Also, the server was very attentive and friendly. Â This is definitely a little dive Mexican restaurant that is worth checking out.
Review Source:My wife and I were stumped on what to get for a quick bite to eat. Â I had been recently introduced to Marko's by some friends of mine and decided to give it a try for carry-out. Â We ordered two of the "three taco dinner" plates and a side of guacamole. Â We were very happy-they were all very flavorful and everything seemed to be very fresh. Â Can't wait to go back again-so happy it is in our neighborhood!
Review Source:I just happened to be shopping in the area and the place I wanted to go was closed. Â Hmmm... what can I say about Marko's Tacos without sounding ummm... harsh. Â The place serves Mexican food. Â But the quality is quite lacking. Â I should have gotten a clue when I walked into the bathroom (ewwwhhh). Â
The waitress was very nice and friendly, but she got my order wrong. Â I asked for cheese enchiladas and black beans... instead I got 2 veggie enchiladas (with broccoli & potatoes... I think) and refried beans. Â I even asked her in Spanish and she concurred. Â Nonetheless, I gave it the ole' college try and decided to eat what was presented to me. Â Oh my goodness the food was so bland I had to drench it in hot sauce. Â I left most of my food on the plate.. I felt so bad for wasting so much food! Â Then when I asked for my receipt the waitress looked bewildered as if she had never been asked for a receipt. Â I felt like I was in the twilight zone and someone was messing with my head.
This definitely was not a typical dining experience for me. Â Verdict - won't be going back to Marko's, you can believe that.
I was upset to learn that Real Azteca (which was amazing) was recently replaced by Markos Tacos but was willing to give it a try.
When we arrived we were the only customers in the place. Â Not so unusual for a cold weeknight. Â The older woman behind the counter (in the kitchen area) did not greet us and looked pissed off at the world, but our waiter was friendly. Â
I ordered a steak super  burrito and an horchata, my partner ordered a pork burrito suizo without ranchero sauce and a side of beans and rice.
When the food arrived I received the pork burrito swimming in ranchero with sour cream on top and no horchata. Â My partner received a steak burrito with cheese melted on top (done in a microwave). Â The only 2 customers in the place and the order was wrong?!?
Well, they did fix the order for us but I have to say the burritos were nothing to get excited about. Â Yes they are huge, but they are more than half filled with soggy lettuce. Â I assume from the trip into the microwave. Â Overall not the best.
Too bad because Real Azteca was a slam dunk! Â We used to go there often. Â Markos fails to deliver the same great food and friendly service. Â I would hesitate to return.
