I've given this restaurant several opportunities to impress me, and it has failed every time. The last attempt was yesterday for lunch. After waiting almost 30 minutes for a table, my friend and I were seated and greeted by a very enthusiastic server. That was where the attentiveness ended. He took our drink and food order, and pretty much disappeared. We both ordered sandwiches that included a choice of soup, which our server forgot to bring out to us until after we received our sandwiches.
The soup (Creamy chicken rice) was completely flavorless, which was disappointing considering the server had emphatically recommended it over the black bean option. In fact, everything on my plate was flavorless, from the cottage fries, which were more like unsalted potato chips, to the turkey Reuben.
My friend ordered the turkey bacon club and onion rings, equally unimpressive. It's as if there is a shortage of salt in the kitchen because everything was grossly underseasoned and bland.
We picked at our meal for a good 30 minutes and our server did not stop to check on us even once, although he was working the tables on both sides of us. In fact, the only attention we received after placing our order was from another server who knew my dining partner. She stopped by the table to say hello and when we mentioned that our server forgot to bring us our soup, she said "that's because you have a crappy server." How professional. Even after bringing us the check, he didn't ask how our meal was, probably because he knew what the answer was going to be based on our half-eaten remnants.
It's unfortunate that this place has lost my business. The location is fantastic and it has a great ambiance, but after 3 consecutive bad experiences with both the food and service, I'm done throwing my hard earned money away. Farewell Nookies on Bryn Mawr. You really blew it.
I've been back to Nookies Edgewater several times, both in the restaurant and for carryout and since my last review and things have only gotten better. The food is still just as good or better as I mentioned before and the overall service has improved greatly. I just noticed that the owner had followed up with me several months back and sent me a very nice note. They've also recently added alcohol to the menu. Mmmm, mimosas.
