Allow me to start by complimenting this RESTAURANTS fantastic Belgian beer selection. That said, I will not be returning anytime in the near future, and no, I didn't try the food. The reason for this is that after sitting down with a party of eight, my sister (20 yrs. old) was refused entry at the door repeatedly, even after our intervention explaining that she was their to eat with us. After the mediocre service from the staff and the stark refusal to allow us to EAT, we were more than happy to leave our waitress dumbfounded as to who was going to pay for our awful service. Her answer, Hopleaf was.
Review Source:Oh Hopleaf. There's already a million reviews here but I'll throw in my $0.02.
I've been here a few times, and each time I have really enjoyed it. The beer, of course, is certainly the main highlight of this place. You can't go wrong.
The food has been ranging from just okay to great. I've tried:
The mussels -SO delicious, I would very highly recommend them!! They come with a ton of fries that are also super good. Really a great amount of food and guaranteed to be delicious. Just do it.
the CB&J - a bit of a flop. the bread was WAY too heavily fried (I was expecting more of a taosted and lightly buttery grilled cheese type bread, not super crispy ultra-buttered bread...), and there just wasn't enough filling. Honestly, skip it and just make your own grilled cheese with some jam at home and it'll be probably better for a fraction of the price. There's much better food at the hopleaf. However, I did really enjoy the macaroni that it came with.
pork loin entree - they change their entrees a fair amount but this was quite good, came with some veggies and potatoes underneath. I enjoyed it.
My boyfriend also got a pork rib entree that I sampled which was quite good.
My favorite by far has been the mussels and fries. Just get the mussels!!!!
Far and beyond my favorite spot in this area. Maybe even the whole city. Okay, that's a stretch. But I do love coming here and whenever I have friends in my neck of the woods I make sure to bring them. They have a huge list of excellent beers to choose from and the service is friendly and helpful. If you're looking for something to snack on, get the mussels to share with your friends.
