I think this is definitely my favorite pizza spot for thin crust. I usually order the White Pizza, which is phenomenal. I am not a fan of pizza sauce or an over cooked pizza so that the cheese is burnt to hell. This pizza is just the opposite! Loaded with cheesy awesomeness and a super garlic taste! We will occasionally order the burger and tots special on Thursday, it is an amazing deal for quality food. Oh, did i mention they are consisent as well! My only gripe...DELIVER TO ME!! I live by Lincoln and they only go as far west as Ashland! What! NO fair, they will go all the way from Division to Bryn Mawr???
Review Source:We have been going to Michael's for years, used to live right down the road and would go every Sunday for football and have their pizza delivered a few times a month. Now we live several miles away and still make the trek via bus early Sundays as a treat! They have about a million TV's so finding your team isn't a problem. I go for the amazing Hot Wings since I'm a Raiders fan and there is no real point in watching them play, the wings are huge, the sauce is intensely hot but still has tons of flavor, it's not one dimensional and its a little smokey. I'd love to have the recipe, I saw one of the cooks bring in chipotle peppers one day and I'm convinced they were for the hot wings sauce. My husband and all of our friends love the pizza, crust in thin and crispy the way we like and the sausage is amazing! Overall a great casual place for pizza and a good beer selection and they make a pretty good bloody mary for a little hair of the dog! P.S. I dream of their hot wings, they have ruined all others for me!
Review Source:My two star review was unwarranted!!!! Â I have been back multiple times since my first visit and this place has quickly grown into one of my favorite pizza spots in Chicago. Â They always have great drink/food specials and the thin crust pizza is delicious! Â Their service can be hit or miss, but they are always pretty nice. Â
Just a side note, but they do get packed for sporting events. Â It seems like anytime there is a big game I go there and it's hard to get a table. Â Either way you won't go wrong with Michael's!
Ordered for the first time based on location and other Yelps. Â We live close and want to try all the pizzerias around us in case we're missing a hidden gem.
Delivery time was good, as was the price for the pie. Â However, the crust was less crispy than one this thin seemed like it should be. Â We got a large pepperoni and sausage. Â Also, it was pretty greasy which upset the wife's stomach. Taste was good.
Wow good thin crust pizza
1st visit - cheese and sausage, very good
2nd visit - cheese, mushroom, sausage, onion, green pepper - again good but the crust was so thin could not support all the toppings, needed folk and knife to eat the pizza this time
Lots of TV's, good place to catch the game, the staff is okay, have had nicer service, but not the worst either - appears lots of regulars and they appears they get the little bit and preferred treatment - guess I need to go more to get in the servers "good graces".......... if in the area, a good place
The sign you ordered a great pizza is when everyone at your party goes silent once the pizza is delivered. They're busy stuffing their faces with great pizza!!
I've lived in Chicago for 14 years and I've finally settled on Michael's as my "go-to" place for great pizza. Big, bold, & simple. Â Great crust, great sauce, great flavor. Very satisfying for what you crave in a pizza. Â You feel like a local when you eat it. Â What makes it my #1 is the price. Â You get big bang for your buck. Â You're totally satisfied after you eat it without breaking the bank. Â Quality pizza tastes great the next day cold in the fridge. Â Micheal's is great even 2 days after you order it. You won't be disappointed!
It's been a couple years since I first reviewed Michael's and I decided my review needed an update! Â We love coming here for Bears games or really any kind of sporting event-tons of TVs and the PIZZA...it has quickly risen to the top of my most craved food! Â We've recently been ordering the thin crust with Hot Giardiniera and Italian Beef.....you wouldn't think this would make for a good pizza but it is AMAZING!! Â Their sauce is a little on the sweet side and pairs perfectly with the beef and giardiniera. Â I love Michael's and will definitely be making many return appearances!
Review Source:Congrats, my first 1 star review.
A friend and I were drawn to this place by their four star rating, and unfortunately we didn't feel the same way. Upon entering the massive number of televisions seemed perfect, they were not only playing the upcoming football game but also finishing up a baseball game on every other screen. We site, are handed menus and after browsing through the six pages of options and taking a better look at the place determine that they could have easily swapped one of these TVs for a fresher set of menus, with less than 50 entree options and a more streamlined system. After being overwhelmed by underwhelming options, we left Michael's and headed over to Bar on Buena.
It feels unfair to give such a low rating considering I didn't try the food, but first impressions are important and this establishment can use some help.
Michael's, I'm a fan.
You've got your 'ish together.
You've got GREAT beer specials.
You've got a TON of TV's.
Your pizza is delicious.
Your staff is great.
Your restaurant is clean.
I love this place. I wished I lived closer (well, maybe not [ahem, Uptown]...I wish Michaels was closer to me though)
I will be back anytime I'm hungry/thirsty and in the neighborhood.
The food is awesome, the service is awesome, and the prices are right! This is a wonderful spot to watch any sort of sports game--although you need to arrive early, especially on Sunday. I will agree that it's not the fanciest joint in town, but the atmosphere is really comfortable and the people are really friendly. The menu is not overflowing, but the food on it is quality and really what you would expect from a sports bar. Also the service has always been awesome. On gamedays they get super crowded so things go a little more slowly, but over all it is a great place
Review Source:3.5 This place looks sketchy from the outside and is nothing special on the inside. Â My first impression was bad. Â My large group was already in full swing with pitchers of Miller Lite, but when I drink, I make it count, so Miller just wasn't going to cut it. Â When I asked several times for a beer list, but he didn't seem to understand. Â I rephrased "you know, like a list of beer??" Â Something computed and I was given a lackluster list. Â This is certainly not the place to come for craft beer when Bar on Buena is just up the street. Â They did have Green Line on tap, though, so I was happy.
I really enjoyed our pizza, thin crust Michael's special (onion, green pepper and sausage). Â The large is HUGE and was served fairly quickly and piping hot. Â The veggie pizza looked good too, but I was into the sausage. Â Several other friends sampled the rest of the menu, including cheese fries, mozzarella sticks and burger. Â Everything looked like standard tasty bar fare.
Our server took good care of our large, rather unruly group. Â And the price was definitely right. Â Our tab for 8-10 people was about $120. Â Michael's is not the kind of place you go to impress, but it's a solid neighborhood gem when you want to have a relaxed night out or watch the game (or Olympics, in our case). Â Well done.
I'm not a fan of stuffed pizza but got one for my family while they were in town visiting; it was perhaps one of the best I've had, ever!
The additional food options are great as well and the thin crust is Delish too!
Plus they have an outdoor seating area that allows dogs, great service and a great neighborhood bar vibe with tons of TVs perfect for watching sports.
The night I came in was during the Basketball finals. It was crowded!
Since it was a Tuesday night, they had their specials (they have specials every day!) and we ordered the hot wings. It was fabulous. They were properly crisped and had an adequate amount of sauce on it. Not to mention they were about 25 cents a wing! Can't beat that price for quality too!
My date brought his dog along so we sat outdoors. The waiter even gave the dog a bowl of ice water! It's definitely a sweet experience here. They checked on us several times through the busyness!
One of the cons is the parking in the area. I don't live in the area and we traveled by car. It took us roughly 20-30 minutes just to find parking. I would come back for the food because it was that good. Give this place a try since they also serve the regular pub items.
The beer by the pitcher is obviously cheaper (isn't this always the case when you can order like that?).
It's unfortunate when one negative experience leaves a lasting impression of how it's going to be from that moment forward. I will continue to dine here. It's a convenient pub grub that is open late for my friend and I. Random strangers approach our table and start conversations with us all the time. No problem. That's what I like about this neighborhood establishment. The people are friendly and harmless.
We ordered 2 pints of beer and 1 basket of poppers for a grand total of $20.70. I made the mistake of giving the guy $50 bill and asking for change. We walked around the block in the pouring rain (the weekend of Wavefront Music Festival at Montrose Beach) and once we were home, I realized I forgot my change.
ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW IS THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE DISHONEST THIEVES!
I'll be back and they can rest assured, I will never pay with a bill larger than a $20 and I will NEVER TIP HERE again. Shame on you and your staff but I'm the one who has the last laugh, assholes!
I lived kitty-corner from this place for 4 years... now that I've moved I definitely miss it! The price cannot, I repeat CANNOT be beat.
The pizza is actually really good for the price, the chicken wings come with a spicy home sauce, their cheese quesadillas on point. The primo burger, simply hmmmm hmmm. The fries good. Check out their daily specials and make sure to bring a friend on Sundays to split a pitcher... or two or three or four cause they're only $7
I think this place eventually will get a 4-star from me, but for now a 3. We met friends of friends that RAVED about their taco pizza, so after a long day of drinking on St Patty's we went to try the taco pizza. We should've been an easy crowd to please, but sadly the pizza was just OK. no amazing flavor, it could've been cooked longer so the crust was crispier. One redeeming quality is it came with a nice hot sauce.
The ambience is great though. TVs everywhere which was great for watching March Madness. I've had some of their pizza take-out which has been decent so I feel like a better food showing + the ambience can hopefully bump it up to a 4 next time.
This review is solely for their carry-out service.
We ordered chicken wings from Michael's for the Super Bowl this past weekend. Â They promptly completed our order and it was ready when I arrived to pick them up.
Michael's wings are fantastic - they are meaty breaded wings with a tangy spicy sauce. Â They are fantastic! Â Everyone at our party raved about them and wanted to know where we bought the wings - so Michael's may have some more business coming their way.
If you are looking for great buffalo chicken wings I'd highly recommend what Michael's serves up!
I think two stars is being generous. My gorgeous, model friend is in from town and staying a few block from here with her sister. What should two attractive females do in the city? Drink and get some dinner!
We're told the pizza and fried zucchini here is worth going for, so we agree to meet at Michael's. We came in around 4pm, and the place is pretty empty, we still sat so we weren't blocking any TV's for soccer watching patrons. The bartender comes over to our table and asks us for our drink order and my friend asks what the beer specials are. Pretty standard. She's told the two different beers and when she asks the bartender his opinion on the beers he gives her an annoyed look and says "they are two COMPLETELY different beers, girls usually like this one." So my friend agrees to the "girly" beer to appease him.
When it's time to order we ask which crust to get, the thin, or the REALLY thin, because, again, we're first timers and he WORKS there. He rolls his eyes and eventually gives us some advice. We order, he leaves. We have a friend coming to meet us and we tell him to hurry, as the bartender hates us.
Our food comes, the zucchini is delicious, the pizza is OK. However, I wouldn't come back just for it. We're almost done with our beers by the time the food comes, he doesn't give us a chance to order another one. He stops by once to ask how we're doing, we say great. We notice we forgot to order a beer and decide to wait for him to come around again, and he comes back with the check.
So now we think he must just hate girls, and we have to tell our friend NOT to meet us there b/c we're being kicked out. And then he messed our check up too and charged me double.
So if you want an empty place that hates girls with OK food that will charge you double and not let you continue to spend money when you have money to burn... go here.
I discovered Michael's last year during the Cubs' opening weekend. Â After getting drunk enough to no longer tolerate the Wrigleyville scene, I followed some friends over here for food and more beer. Â It has since become one of my favorite places and even though it's out of my way, I will happily travel here to watch sports. Â
It turns out my mom used to come here years ago after work with a group of co-workers. Â How do I keep ending up at the spots my mom used to frequent? Â That's fine, Michael's is great.
I've tried several different pizzas and the thing I love most is that their pizzas are clean. Â What I mean is, whether or not it's stuffed or thin, sauce isn't dripping everywhere and ingredients aren't falling off. Â It's easy to eat. Â (Bet ya didn't know eating pizza could be so complicated, did ya?) Â Second, the sauce is different than most. Â I can't put my finger on it though. Â Perhaps it's a little sweeter? Â I'm not sure what it is that I like about it so much, but it was one of the first things I noticed. Â Also, they don't skimp on toppings. Â I like pineapple on my pizza and when I order it at most places, I find there are about 6 pieces. Â I'm not saying the pizza is covered in ingredients, but they also aren't holding back on them either.
Honestly, the only other food I can remember having is the wings. Â While they're not my favorite, they are a suitable substitute for when I can't get my favorite. Â The only reason I tried them was because they messed up our order and to make up for it they offered those and something else for free. Â Who doesn't love free wings? Â Actually, I'm probably not being fair here as I've also only had the wings with pick-up orders. Â I'm pretty sure if I had them there, I would think they're great as the sauce has a nice flavor. Â I've had other food and enjoyed it, but I'm all about the pizza when I go here, and I don't even like pizza that much.
Overall, the staff is great. Â When someone from my party left a jacket, one of their servers came running out before we got in a cab to let us know. Â They're very apologetic when they make a mistake (and hey, with as busy as they get, mistakes can happen), treat everyone as if they're a regular and the staff is fun to chat with. Â If you want to watch sports, this is a great spot. Â With as many TVs as they have, chances are you'll find at least one game you want to watch.
After scouring Yelp reviews to find a good place (that wouldn't be overcrowded) to watch the most recent Packer game (let's not talk about that just yet - sigh...), I decided upon this one. Â
Packer fans - check, beer - check, somewhere to sit - check, television playing the game - woooahhhhhh. I mean, I read the reviews, but I was still in shock. SO MANY TV'S! Â And I'd say 95% of them playing the game (a couple had the Hawks on, and one had a rogue soccer game)! Â I was impressed. Â Got my beer, got some nachos. Â Boyfriend got his beer and a burger - only $2.99 for a burger! Average priced drinks, but super cheap food! Daily specials on drinks (today had 2.25 pints of Miller Lite and like a $6 pitcher of the same if I recall). Â Was tempted to get the $8 12" pizza for myself...but held out. Â Nachos did the trick. Â
We were waited on attentively - for only 3 guys watching a full bar with tables to wait, they did a really great job. Â Major props. Â The atmosphere was not as Packer-y as I had hoped. Â It was definitely not like watching a game back home in Green Bay. Â I would have loved to not have been the loudest one screaming and shouting and clapping - but, what can ya do; it's not the bar's fault. Â But if you're looking for a PACKERS atmosphere (which I was) - I'd head to one of the bars more known for their Packer pride. Â
I'd probably go to watch the Hawks or Cubs, but not again for my Pack - as much as I loved all the TVs, and the gigantic one right in the middle. Â
MINUS ONE STAR 'CAUSE THE BARTENDER TOLD ME HE WAS A VIKINGS FAN! AND I DIDN'T EVEN ASK!
I've been coming here since even before moving to Chicago, and while the inexpensive eats and drinks make for a good deal, there's a lot more to Michael's (at least during football season) to enjoy.
Not only do they have over 20 televisions, there's always one game on the big screen with the sound on. Â This is a football watching bar, so everyone has a chance to see their team on the big screen. Â I especially enjoyed the football watching this season, because there are so many regulars at Michael's. Â Bears fans and Packers fans sitting together? sans bloodshed? Â Yes, I've even seen Steeler fans and Ravens fans sitting at a table, TOGETHER, that is the awesomeness of Michael's, a great sports bar where everyone is welcomed, and not a one need be afraid for the team name on their jersey.
Michael's has the potential to be the perfect sports bar. Â It has an over-abundance of TVs and the great sports bar feel makes it an ideal destination for NFL Sunday. Â The food is very reasonably priced and the Primo burger is phenomenal.
Still, I give it a three-star rating. The problem? The service is the slowest I have ever dealt with. Â Even on busy game days, Michael's doesn't keep a waiter/waitress to serve their dining area. Instead, a hodgepodge of quasi-bartender servers will split serving the tables. Â This means that your "server" is rarely walking around where you can flag them down and it's extremely common for them to disappear for 15-20 minutes at a time.
I have only ordered pizza once and I was told it would take 20 minutes. It took 45 minutes and the quasi-bartender server dude didn't even apoligize or explain when I brought up that it was taking forever.
Bottom line, it's a great sports bar with cheap, good food, but is EXTREMELY subpar on service.
Football season has started and I've already been to Michael's twice in one week.
Although I'm not a big fan of the food, I'm still a fan of the prices. Â They have great specials on everything, which makes this our cheap go-to place for watching games. Â
But the thing that I like best about Michael's is that the other night I was able to watch the Brewers game and the Packers game simultaneously on side-by-side televisions. Â Happiness.
I'm normally very weird about giving anything 5 stars, because nobody is perfect right? Â Michael's made it totally worth all 5 stars, as far as I could tell! Â
When we walked in, the waitress told us to seat ourselves and when we did and she came back for our drink orders, she was fantastic! Â Personable and friendly, but not over bearing.
No drink specials, which sucked, but it's hard to find drinks specials on a Friday. Â Luckily, my boyfriend and I are into cheap beer, which they were able to supply.
We got the Combination Platter appetizer, which was a perfect size, which proved to be just as delicious as we expected. Â And on top of that, neither of us had a single complaint about our entrees.
I'm half tempted to return for dinner tonight as well.
Michael's is a nice no-frills sports bar with cheap beer, ginormous inexpensive pizzas, surprisingly good chili and decent tater tots. Our Softball league started coming here because the other bars in the area charge an arm, a leg, want your firstborn child and steal your soul while they're at it. Not Michael's. I've never spent more than $15 there and always walk away full.
If sports are your thing they have about 30 TVs playing all the major games when they are happening and even some popular games on other days. Last night I was entranced by a program with people doing crazy stunts like Parkour, Drifting and Cliff Diving. I was also entranced by the ridiculously hot bartender mixing what looked like quite a delicious cocktail. Apparently they get classy after 10pm. They also have a decent wine selection on top of their Jameson and beers.
It's all about the specials.

STFU. Â Outrageous!
When I told a friend of mine how much I spent last weekend watching the Saturday NFL double header at Michael's Pizzeria, they quipped, "you should have just said it's your place and got a discount." Â This made me think of all the times that I watched football at home and the advantages and disadvantages of doing so - to me or anyone else (possibly as a justification for spending as much money as I did):
- Michael G's: The beer is free, but it consists of one year-old tallboy of PBR that's been sitting in the refrigerator.
- Michael's Uptown: The beer isn't free, but it's cheap. Â On football Sundays, they have $6.50 pitchers of whatever crap domestic or domestic light you would want. Â And it's only a little more for real beer.
- Michael G's: There's one television, a futon, and some folding chairs. Â And I only have a digital converter box. Â So if it ain't on Fox or CBS, you're S.O.L. Â And, most of the time, you can't call your games. Â Those are my choice.
- Michael's Uptown: There are dozens of televisions with NFL Sunday Ticket and plentiful seating (even for a huge game). Â The disadvantage is that they're an Illini bar. Â The television at Michael G.'s is much cooler and shows Michigan State games. Â Well, when they're on regular television at least.
- Michael G's: Due to a spat with People's Gas, I currently have no oven and heat my place with space heaters. Â Therefore, there's little pizza (sometimes a personal microwave one), generally mediocre (though free) food, and it's currently 59 degrees in my front room.
- Michael's Uptown: It's well climate controlled and the pizza comes out of their *working ovens* hot and delicious. Â The only problem is they have no personal pizza size. Â Their cheapest pie is almost $10. Â Though they do, however, have many meal-sized dish options for under $5. Â Unbelievably cheap.
- Michael G's: If you're looking for service, I'll tell you to get it your gosh darn self.
- Michael's Uptown: The service is slow and inattentive, but the end results of great food evens it out.
- Michael G's: There has never been a douchebag in my apartment since I moved in. Â A couple of yuppies, dozens of hipsters, maybe a trixie, but the crowd is, in general, going to be cool.
- Michael's Uptown: There are not many douchebags here, but there's also not as strict a doorman (a.k.a. they don't have one). Â So you never know what crowd you're going to get.
In conclusion, it would appear to anyone who didn't already frequent Michael G.'s (which is pretty much myself) that Michael's Uptown is a better place to watch football. Â And I would be inclined to agree. Â But, if you're a lady and have gotten into the place, the chances of picking up a dude are maybe a little better at Michael G.'s. Â Just saying is all. Â Of course, the downside (or upside for some) is, it's going to be Michael G.
Just in case you didn't pick up from the 123 reviews Michael's is the SHIIIIIT! Sorry for cursing but I'm sure I have your attention now.
For years my Monday night football crew came here. Why? It's simple really, a few people lived near by, the pizza is actually tolerable (even with my pizza standards), drinks are a plenty, a lot of TV's, and it is CHEAP. Besides their pizza they have all kinds of fatty goodness happening on their menu. Nachos, Mozzarella sticks, hot wings, cheese fries, onion rings, I mean the list goes on and on. Basically all the essentials of feeling guilty the next morning but yet you're not hungover... at least that's how I rationalize it. I also heard some rumor that they have those green leafy things, I believe they call it a salad. Â
The staff is laid back but pretty attentive to their customers. Though they need to hire more staff to deal with how packed it gets sometimes. It's a simple kind of place, no fancy sports bar but a sports bar none the less. For those of you who want to hide the fact that you eating those extra pounds but tell people in public that you don't know how it happened, they have delivery.
When the weekend rolls around, I am tired of dressing up, so I don my comfy jeans, one of my many ginormous hoodies and my warm boots and trod down the street to Michaels.
Good pizza and cheap beer call my name and there is always a variety of games being shown on one of the 30 plus TV's, which is nice when you don't want to talk. I enjoy coming to this place with friends because there are pool tables and on the weekends you can score a pitcher of Miller for about $6. I also, enjoy their spicy hot wings, and Michael's special pizza thin crust, which boasts sausage, green pepper, onions and I always substitute mushrooms for garlic! Quite scrumptious and always fresh.
I've been here several times since moving to this neighborhood and throughout the years Michael's has been consistently good, and this is the top reason why I keep coming back.
In essence nothing more than a standard bar with standard food and standard beer, there is one aspect which elevates Michael's and gets it the fourth star--its Sunday football offerings. Â I meant to count the TVs, but I kept forgetting...because it was absurdly difficult to keep my focus for more than five seconds, due to the barrage of visual inputs. Â I was facing the wall and had a close view of five games, including my own team's and two others with fantasy AND playoff implications. Â I apologize to anyone who tried to speak to me as I stared slack-jawed at the profusion of football action.
Besides the variety in games, the crowd is mixed too, which I really appreciated: Â it's not just a Bears orgy. Â I saw a rainbow of team gear on various patrons including the, Lions, Packers, Steelers, Dolphins, Eagles, Vikings, Giants, Cowboys, Chargers, Colts, 49ers, and (poor guy) Rams.
The food (both on the menu and in practice) was entirely boring. Â I sampled okay french fries, okay fried mushrooms, and okay fried shrimp. Â The side salad which came with my shrimp dinner was actually pretty good, a generous size with fresh stuff and a tasty garlic dressing. Â The thin-crust pizza was fine, but the crust was too crisp and dry for my taste.
Nice beer specials on a Sunday if you like "American macrowbrews"; if not, they have Goose Island pints for $4.50--Honkers, 312, and seasonal.
I wanted to try the onion rings, as I've read a lot about them and I am a big onion-ring aficionado, so I want to go back for those. Â I would definitely return for another football event. Â It's a great place for Sunday afternoons. Â Plenty of free street parking too.
Fun for all! Once I got past the seizure-inducing stimulus of all the televisions, I had a great time here. Since the bar is really cool about trying to cater to fans of all different teams, there was a big variety of football fans on the last Sunday of regular season play. It made for an interesting afternoon of friendly rivalries.
The pizza was fantastic. I swore it off originally, but the longer its tempting aromas filled my sense, I just had to try some. I was not disappointed. The beer was plentiful and the staff was really accommodating.
It has been almost one year since I last patronized Michael's...
Another co-ed sports league, another reason to visit.
I challenge you to find a better chicken caesar salad for under $7. No really, I do. It's downright magnificent, and cheap. 5 stars.
Social teams (sports leagues) get $6 pitchers, no matter what night you are in. $6? For a pitcher!? That's pretty sweet.
The number of TVs is almost inappropriate. The tables are big, the place is roomy (non-Bears game days) and the service was still quick and friendly.
5 stars and I'm stickin' to it. Oh, and randomly...they have free wifi.
Wifi, beer, chicken caesar salad? Let's do this.
