Great place to go for lunch. For $10 you get two rolls, a soup, and a salad. They also have some other lunch specials with noodles and cooked dishes if that's what you want (for around $10 or $11 I believe). Awesome deal, will be going back regularly.

Excellent lunch box specials- and I think they run at about 10.99.  The quality of the sushi varies, but the shumai are always perfect!

We really enjoy this local BYO sushi restaurant in downtown Chatham. As far as NJ sushi places go in the area, this is consistently the best we've had over the many years we have been living here. Don't expect it to measure up to some of the superior NYC sushi specialists, but it definitely holds its own and will not disappoint. The live scallop sashimi appetizer is really very good and catch it while you can as they are always in limited quantity.

We went there again last night with some friends who are less than adventurous when it comes to sushi...and they have dietary restrictions. This place was a great choice because it can appeal to those who want no frills entrees like teriyaki and udon and basic rolls as well as folks like us who like to experiment with what is seasonally fresh...we almost never order rolls (hand rolls are the rare exception) and we are highly critical of sashimi and eat fairly regularly.

Mitsuba delivered once again. The service is good, prompt, friendly. The yellow-tail carpaccio appetizer is really tasty. I also like the option to have rolls done with brown rice or naruto-style (riceless, wrapped in cucumber) if you so choose. The fish is fresh, well-presented and overall this place is a pleasant dining experience. We have had so many others in the area deliver such inconsistent quality sushi/sashimi that this place is really one of the few options (in my opinion) to go in the area.

I take everyone here and never had a complaint. I absolutely love the Magic Roll (a meal in its self). Byo, grab some saki at the liquor store connected to the rear parking. Your waiter will warm it up if you so choose.

Have to be very clear with the staff on what you want (friend ordered a side of tempura and got a meal)

I work in the area and I have to say it's the best sushi spot around here. I've tried Monster sushi in Summit and I just wasn't impressed. This place takes the cake. Lunch specials are about $10 with two rolls plus a soup or salad. Can't beat that!

The food is awful. The miso soup tastes like dishwater, the pork dumplings tasted bad, and my husband's chicken teriyaki was inedible. We walked out.

This is my second favorite sushi restaurant in the Chatham-Madison area (my first being Yuki Hana). My sister and I actually have a never-ending debate on which Japanese restaurant is better because she favors Mits and I have an undying love for Yuki - we've agreed to disagree. Either way, BOTH sushi spots serve up incredibly fresh and delicious sushi and I have to give Mitsuba credit where it is due - you almost never have to wait for a table because they have a large dining area, the fish is always fresh and of great quality, and it's BYOB which is awesome because there is a liquor store around the corner that sells some really good sake. One thing that makes Mitsuba standout from the rest is their Magic Roll (crunchy tuna avocado roll w/spicy sauce, eel sauce & miso sauce, scallion & caviar on top) - it is unbelievable (but very rich so make sure you share it with your fellow diners... or hog it all, whatever).

Ordered deluxe sashimi for take out (about 3 minutes from home).  The tunas were mealy and water-logged, the other choices except the salmon were tasteless.  (The salmon was very good.)  Raw fish of only the highest and freshest quality should be served, and this was not the case.  I won't return - it's too risky.

LOVE. THIS. SPOT. It is my favorite sushi place in the area. I used to hit up Yuki Hana and actually refused to go to Mitsuba because I was scared I'd like it more. And then I went. And that was it. They have some very creative rolls, a nice, open room, high ceilings, clean, nice bathrooms and even a tv for your sports-addicted boyfriends. Service is fast and as expected at a sushi joint. It's also BYOB. Awesome.

We live very close to Mitsuba and am glad for it. Between Chatham and  Madison main street, there is a restaurant every 100 yardsbut very few good ones who actually make quality food. In the last 8-9 months we have gone there to eat and ordered in almost once a month and so far not been disappoiuinted even once. Not with the service and not with the food.Sushi is fresh and they are polite and pleasant there always.
I hope you all try it once - it's very good!!!

I really enjoy going to Mitsuba for sushi. The food is always very fresh and the service is great. They have a unique menu and nice ambiance. I always find myself wanting to dine there when they're closed between lunch and dinner which is a bummer.

Driving forty-five minutes to eat here doesn't seem like something a normal person would do. Then again... a New Century Roll doesn't look that normal either! When I get the craving for Mitsuba, it has to be Mitsuba. I won't go so far to say it is the best I ever had, but it is unique. Their special rolls are interesting and the pictures of the rolls help a little bit so you know what to expect. The wait staff is a little misunderstanding at times but when something goes wrong they correct it to the benefit of the customer. Since I am a big eater, things tend to get a little expensive when I go here. Bottom Line- If you're looking for something new and exciting, try it out.

Fresh quality sushi and attentive service on my trips here. The guys at the sushi bar are great, very polite and often give my buddy and I free sushi appetizers. They also make us something that is not on the menu, beef tataki (raw). they do it with a ginger-y slightly spicy sauce and a quail egg cracked on top. interesting rolls and good portions. the hibachi isn't bad either, but i prefer sushi. Tropical Roll and New Century Roll are ultra tasty with great presentation, and good miso soup. I'll be returning...

Mitsuba is a great place to grab a quick lunch when you're working on Main St. Most of my dining experience here has been through take-out, and my order is always completed in a timely manner, even during peak lunch times. The chicken has sometimes been a little dry, but I've yet to find a cheap Japanese place of better quality.

Though I've eaten in the restaurant once, I can't remember much about it, so I would venture to say that the ambiance and service were not exceptionally bad or good.

In general, I would say Mitsuba is the go-to place for a quick Japanese meal right in the center of Chatham.

I definitely like the ambiance and decor of the place--they did a nice job.

As for the food--it is good.  Fresh and good--simply put.  Nothing exciting but not crap.  Everyone is polite there and the prices are pretty standard.  I like it for the convenience on the corner in Chatham.

Mitsuba has a great location, right along Main St. in Chatham and the wait is never too bad, even on the weekends.  Lunch is great--pretty cheap and it's always pretty empty, leading to great service.

The sushi is very fresh and always delicious.

Convenient location , near the train station and off Main Street.  Ambience is fair and a kid friendly atmosphere.  I only say kid friendly because it's loud so you don't hear your kids as the outliers in the crowd. My husband and I have a discerning taste for sushi maybe because we're Asian.  He's a tougher critic than I.  The sushi was nothing exceptional...quality is average. We like innovative rolls and they don't offer that and even if they do, the sushi doesn't live up to the fancy name.  If you want convenience and a sushi place, this is it.  We, on the other hand like the Japanese place in Madison.

Ambiance is tacky and annoying -- it's often loud and crowded, and for some reason there's a huge TV over the sushi bar, usually playing sports. Ugh. The service is mediocre, too; most of the waitstaff speak very, very poor English (and no, they're not Japanese, they're Chinese...). The couple who runs the place is very nice, though, and they have been helpful when there was a misunderstanding, though it is often too busy to get their attention.

The food, however, makes up for what Mitsuba lacks in service and ambiance. There is a large selection of very fresh sashimi, and the miso soup and salad are always half-way decent, which is rare. The menu is quite big, the portions are perfect, and the prices are reasonable.

Moral of the story - get take-out ;)

Consistently great sushi, with a wide variety of rolls. We go once a week and always look forward to it. We generally never stray from the sushi on the menu, but they seem to also do a solid business in teriyaki and noodle type dishes.

The service can sometimes be a little slow, but never a huge issue. And BYOB too!

We went there for Saturday lunch. My fiance got a noodle soup and I got a sushi lunch. The food was not good. Sushi in Wholefood Market tastes better. The noodle soup was not impressive at all. The service was even worse. The waitress came several times, trying to clean up the table while my fiance was still eating! There are definitely better Japanese restaurants in the neighboring towns such as Millburn and Summit. This is NOT a place to go if you want authetic Japanese food.

The decor is amazing.  Wood tones abound, but the space doesn't seem to get too noisy as you might expect.

The sushi is fresh and served at the right temperature.  That puts it a leg up on some other places.  There is a man and a woman that run the front of the house.  They are very knowledgeable and make great recommendations on which choices are good for the that day.  Unfortunately this doesn't carry over to the wait staff, one of whom forgot some orders when I was with a large party.

Four stars, its nice to have sushi in Chatham

This is definitely worth a try.  I've been to the other sushi restaurants in the Chatham area (Yuki Hana in Madison, Monster Sushi in Summit), and this is by far the highest quality.  The former video store has been amazingly redecorated into a chic and elegant restaurant.  I had the tuna roll and boston roll.  While most sushi restaurants in the area will overload the rolls with rice, Mitsuba has high quality fish that is not overwhelmed with white rice.  There are plenty of options for those more weary of sushi - my friend loved her teriyaki, and she even tried the unconventional sweet potato roll.  Great pick for a casual, local sushi dinner

One of the newest eateries in the continuing restaurant boom in Chatham. Considering that it used to be a video store, the remodel is nothing short of astounding. The decor, and general feel is very, very pleasant, and classy. I know it sounds weird, but I found the overall lime green glow of the lighting to be very calming. Overall an excellent menu, with many choices of sushi, sashimi, and many other Japanese specialties. I've been there twice, and plan to go back soon. The Hamaguri soup was quite good, the clams were done perfectly, and very tender. I also had a Dinosaur roll, which was outstanding. The shrimp tempura inside was still crunchy, and the eel was broiled to perfection, with a savory brown sauce over all. I've also had the Pop up roll, that consisted of spicy salmon, crab, shrimp, cucumber,&avocado inside, with tobiko, and tempura chips on top. That roll is amazing! I only found one thing that I personally took issue with. The fact that they decided to put a big screen TV over the sushi bar. Weird? I really hope the continue to be as busy as they have been. The service is great, and they're close to me. They also have a really great $10 lunch box deal with 9 choices that all include soup, salad, shumai, and California roll, plus rice. BYOB. If you're in the area, or new to Chatham, or the surrounding towns, be sure to check it out.
