When someone came up with the idea of going to the Monty, I had my doubts. I even checked Yelp and I was still skeptical. You mean to tell me it's on the other side of the 110? It's away from the center of downtown?
No matter, being a good Yelper means going outside your comfort zone. To be honest, I drove right by it the first time. On my second attempt, I the small and humble door. Better yet, I found free street parking right in front.
As I walk into the bar, I push through the saloon doors like a bad@ss. I walk into an amazing space. High ceilings, vintage belt driven fans, reruns of old school Soul Train projected on the wall. I was completely shocked at the gem we stumbled across.
DJ was due in an hour. Next best thing, a jukebox in the corner. Some common artists, mostly obscure. Ever hear of the The Flying Burrito Brothers? Me neither.
DJ showed and played some amazing oldies. As we all danced and had a ball, I realized how great this moment was: dancing to 60's music 50 years after it was made. You could dance to Top 20 anywhere, so instead come here, get lost and boogie to quality music! See you all on the dance floor!
Terrible experience. The security at the front door broke my ID and proceeded to tell me my ID was fake. It  is a valid Florida ID and never has anyone ever suspected it to be fake so clearly he's stupid or just really awful at his job. After he broke my ID he laughed, gave me attitude and said at least he didn't break it all the way. Yes you just snapped it and it's barely intact. Gee thanks Mr. Bouncer. He did not apologize and said it broke because it was likely fake. He then told me he wouldn't let me in. I asked to see his manager and he told me that he wasn't in and that I should email him. I asked again and amazingly he had one available 10 secs later. The manager apologized on his behalf which is all I wanted in the first place. Instead I got some ignorant bouncer who tried to throw around his "authority" and give me attitude after he broke my ID. Only after I suggested a free round of drinks did the manager agree to it. He wasn't genuine at all and should be embarrassed that his bouncer behaved in such an immature and arrogant way. The place isn't bad on the inside but given its poor service and awful location/parking, I'm not sure why anyone would bother. It was the first and last time I'll ever go there. I don't write reviews but this was so disappointing I couldn't help myself.
