What a cute little place in Little Tokyo?
Who new that this unassuming alleyway would lead to a great place to hangout under the brightly lit twinkling lights?
Anyhow, came here late saturday night and unfortunately could not get a table on the patio, but thank god found a nice table inside.
We got the attention of our server and requested for suggestions as to what beers would be good. I was looking for a fruitier beer and she gave a great suggestion under the japanese beer section. All of us ended up ordering japanese beers and all of us were very satisfied. There is a huge selection so take your time choosing.
In terms of the food, there was a good selection of "bar food" and appetizers.
I got the following.
-Ming Chicken: To be honest, this was just okay. For $8 I wish the fried chicken pieces came with a dipping sauce or something to offset the heavy dry seasoning that they put on the chicken. It was missing just a little something.
-Braise port tacos: 3 mini street tacos with braised tender pork, served with a slaw and a side of (spicy) pickled jalopenos. This was good, and for $7 a very good deal. They were skimpy on the meat filling and eat taco was consistently in flavor and amount.
My friend order the Far Bar burger and said it was pretty tasty.
Would I come back again?
Yes, probably for a drink. Would I come back for the food? Perhaps, but only during happy hour where the prices are almost half off.
I loved the food and had a great experience on my last visit to Far Bar, so I made sure I got the Living Social voucher when it came up in my email. My second experience was "meh." I got the Ahi Cold Soba, it was a little bland, it needed something! I don't like raw fish or half cooked fish (I know, I'm a weirdo), so I told them to cook it well done, but it was a little chewy. I think next time I need to specify cook through and not well done, that was my bad, I wont deduct a star for that.
The waiter was super nice and attentive, however, it takes very long to get your food and it wasn't busy!
I'd go back just because the PB&J bacon burger is yummy!
I actually love this place & will be coming back again! The Happy Hour offers pretty good deals but I didn't really get anything from that menu. I got the Turkey Far Bar burger & ... it was ... SO PERFECT. I don't really want to try anything else when I go back because I liked it THAT MUCH! I went during the day, so it wasn't busy at all. I'm not sure if it gets too packed during the weekends or not. The service is pretty quick & the beer selection is good as well. I got the hoppy flight & while I enjoyed the 2 IPAs... the other 2 were whatever. But I mean that all depends on your choice of beer as well. I also love how the restaurant is in a low-key alleyway. Kind of hard to find if you miss the sign. Enjoy!
