I just don't get the hype, it's very mediocre here. Â
My roommate and I have ordered a few times from them, since it's so close to us, and full disclaimer, we love greasy food. Â All that said, nothing we've had here has made us want to come back.
We tried the gyros plate, it was good but nothing special. Â The hamburgers are very mediocre, the hot dogs are actually pretty bad (not sure how they can mess them up, but the bun was dry and the dog itself wasn't cooked well), their chicken sandwich (fried) was probably my favorite order.
Their localness and decent prices may warrant another order when desperate in the future, but for now I'm going elsewhere.
Not sure if the night shift hates their jobs or what, I absolutely am not doing business with this place again. My food arrived 20+ minutes late, cold, and with no regard to my requests (i.e. no onions does not equal load with obnoxious amounts of onions). Also, my doorbell doesn't work, so rather than leave the delivery driver, wait, I mean the man on his bike, Â waiting outside in the cold, I went downstairs let him in and asked if he'd wait while I went to get cash for his tip (paid with debit card). Whether the man heard me or not, I'm unsure, but I do know his 2 minute TIRADE about how hard he works and even threatened me by saying my address along with 'we'll remember this'. I was in such shock, I didn't even get to give the guy a piece of my mind. I thought the only thing worst than not tipping was asking for a tip? Here's one, hire a new delivery guy!
Review Source:I must be missing something...
At first I was feelin' Morse Gyros but after a few other tries I'm not seein' eye to eye with the place. Â The gyro meat and the pita is really good, but the tzatziki is really bland and it ruins the sandwich for me. Â If I had tzatziki that I liked at home then I could possibly continue to order a gyro. Â I am willing to try some other things as I've heard good things.
I will also stay away from the fries as they are awful and bland.
The owner is real nice guy and delivery with GrubHub is super fast. So that is a plus.
And, I do agree with McStrokin'. This is not an unsafe neighborhood. If you feel unsafe then you should reevaluate what's so scary.
I was working in the Field when I noticed this place...I was extra hungry!! So i decided to go on in and check it out. Probably one of the best Food choices I had made in a very long time...I had the Chicken...I had the Greek Salad...I had the Mac and cheese bites...Gyro was amazing!!!! When I looked down at my watch, I noticed I had been sitting there trying everything on the menu for 2HRS!!!!! Â Great ownership and staff...I think I am heading there today for lunch....try it out!
Review Source:Seriously this is the best gyro I have ever had! And I've eaten at Central Gyro's which is supposed to be the best place in chicago.  They have nothing on Morse!  My boyfriend  got the chicken gyro which wasn't what he expected from the name of it but he said it was amazing(and he is super picky when it comes to good food no mcd's on his plate)!  Love this place.  Skip the fries if it cost extra, they aren't that great.
Review Source:I was wrong before; this place is indeed special. Great gyros, they do it up right. They know what they're doing; the cook was juggling about eight orders at once and didn't miss a beat, nor did he mess up our special order. I love this place, it's a neighborhood gem, my go-to place for gyros or a fast food burger.
Also, thanks to the owner for putting up cameras and signs to help keep the bad guys from hanging out in front.
First of all I want to say that the neighborhood this joint is located in is not all that bad.Like if you seriously feel unsafe by Morse Gyros, you're probably just a P*SSY excuse my french. Now on to the food fair.I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and tastiness of their food.I ordered the Chicken Gyro sandwich and my girlfriend ordered a plain ol' Gyro. Both sandwiches were succulent and juicy. It was unreal how juicy my Chicken breast was!The fries were a waste of time imo but i'd say that for most fast food establishments out there.I heard their fried Chicken is good so maybe i'll try that next time.If you live close by and you're into regular fast food fare,Morse Gyros is a great place too visit for some quick delicious cheap eats.
Review Source:Man.... Â Let me break this down for you.
1. Â Delicious
2. Â They remember you.
3. Â They remember your order if you frequent often.
My boyfriend (who eats a TON and is incredibly picky when it comes to good food) freaking loves this place. Â Is always talking about Manny like they go wayyyy back lol. Â But it's because they remember you, they smile, and they serve up the goods at a decent pace. Â Not much for conversation, but hey! it's not a bar people. Â And they have a TV, so while I wait, I am entertained. Â
I dig Morse Gyros! (also, affectionately known in my famnily as "the turkey burger place")

Ordered two gyros, two small Greek salads, and two sodas as takeout. The gyros were great. Heaping piles of meat with just the right amount of sauce enclosed in a toasted pita. The salads were okay. Large chunk of cheese topped some shredded lettuce, raw onions, and olives. Our salads had the dressing applied and not on the side causing the salad to be a bit limp when we got it home. Â The dressing itself was fairly flavorless. The guy who took our order was super nice. But did forget to put our drinks in the bag.
Review Source:Was passing through the neighborhood and decided to stop at this restaurant for lunch. All I can say is YUM! The boasted chicken was the BOMB! Very tender, juicy fresh out of the fryer! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone lookin for a quick bite! Price was very reasonable too!
Review Source:I'm sort of a gyros connoisseur, been eating them for 25+ years. Â And without doubt this is the best in town. Â So good that I've never even tried anything else on the menu. Â Fries are so-so but come with the gyros, so why not? Â The broasted chicken looks sooo good and I hope to try it someday, but I can't stay away from the gyros!!
Review Source:It seems I always end up here when I'm famished. And they never disappoint. In fact, one gyro is generally too much for me. (Which I'm okay with, on the occasion I have eggs at home, the gyro meat makes a great omelet.)
I get the same thing every time. Gyro and cheese fries. I've learned to order just a side of cheese for my fries rather than asking for "cheese fries" specifically... because when you order a gyro, it comes with fries... So ordering a "gyro and cheese fries" means a gyro, small fries, and another larger order of fries with cheese sauce on the side. (Although, sometimes, that's not a bad thing.)
One of these days I want to try their wings or a Greek salad... but that gyro gets me every time. Love it.
Oh, and they do indeed take credit cards--as far as I know, there's no minimum, but I've never ordered anything less than $5.
Stopped in here after six months of living in the neighborhood. Â The food, a cheeseburger and a gyros were very good. Â The food was very fresh and the meat on the gyros was not dried out and was also very plentiful. Â The owner looked a little grumpt but was very friendly after a few moments. Â I did take out. Â The inside is clean but can be kind of put offish due to the gang-members that seem to hang out on that corner (sometimes inside). Â Anyway, I recommend the food. Â They also have lots of special combos to choose from, which saves a good bit of cash.-
Review Source:Not pretty enough for those who frequent Grill Inn but just as good. And a lot cheaper.
Standard Chicago burger/hot dog/gyros place for the most part. But it's made well and right in front of you. Really good fried chicken though. The 5 wing deal (smother them in hot sauce) is to die for.
Not really the place you want to hang out around. It's at an intersection that seems to attract a lot of loitering. I've seen the owner go off a few times at a few of them. He never seems very happy. But once he see's you come in a few times he loves you.
I just noticed they started taking plastic.
The food is great for a gyros. I'm a huge fan of the gyro burger, which is a cheeseburger with gyro meat and gyro sauce on it. The prices are cheap, the place is clean.
The owner is great! The food is good but the owner is what keeps me coming back. Such a great guy I want to support his business.
I always was curious about this restaurant, very close to my home, and with the general renaissance in the shopping district occuring on Morse, I thought I would check it out. Â
The original sign is no longer there; however, the entire mini mall stretch has been recently face-lifted and signage soon to come. Â The delicious smell of roasted meats coming from the restaurant lures you in.
There were a few locals inside waiting for carry-out. Â There is a dine-in option, a few booths and a linoleum floor. Â The dining and grill, cooking space is very clean but also very generic, almost clinical environment -- there is one small LCD TV on the wall, but no real atmosphere in terms of dining in experience. Â While you could dine in and it is attractive enough to dine inside, it is just very generic with colder surfaces that doesnt invite coziness.
However, the food is what this place is about! Â They have a large number of specials from Gyros to Chicken, Fish, Beef -- Lots of salads, typical diner fare. Â Lots of specials to choose from.
I had the Gyro salad. Â A large portion of shredded lettuce with greek dressing mixed with cucumbers and fresh tomatoes. Â The shaved gyro meat was placed on the sald with tzatziki and onions. Â A side of freshly grilled pita was also included. Â Â The gyro meat was delicious; it was shaved off the spit and had no off tastes or gamey flavor. Â the salad was substantial and it made for a very hearty lunch. Â I wish the salad including feta/olives and pepperoncini -- but they have a greek salad option as well, i will just ask for that plus gyro meat next time. Â
It is a smallish joint and the owner was there and was pleasant, although very studied and measured in his interaction with customers. Â They took their time preparing my meal, which was a bonus, I must say. Â It is not difficult to create but they were thoughtful about the preparation and the appearance of the salad. Â Â Will definitely be back.
Morse Gyros is sooo much more than Gyros. At any time you could be sitting next to gang foot soldiers scrounging up change for a cheeseburger, or next to a Chicago Cop who should have retired about 15 years ago.
The food...again more than just Gyros. We are talking some of the best fried chicken in the neighborhood, great bacon cheese burger and best part.....everything is made to order.
Nino and his grill mate have been working this joint for over 8 years (that is how long I have been going). I used to make trips all the way from Oak Park (when I used to live there) for a fried chicken meal or bacon cheeseburger.
Side note: their Greek salad is a menu surprise....cucumbers, BIG chunks of feta and other fix'ins. Great for less "fried" types.
This place is pretty good for a neighborhood joint. The food is tasty; the gyros is good, but a tad dry. For the patron who's not into gyros, they have your average American fare on the menu, too. The cheeseburger is pretty good, but I have a suspicion the patty is a frozen one.
I am by no means a salad person, but this place has the most delicious grilled chicken salad. The chicken is quality and juicy, although sometimes it gets a bit toasty on the outside. My favorite part is the pita bread they include; they dip it in oil and toast it on the grill for you. Absolutely delicious. I'd recommend getting the dressing on the side; it's delish, but oily and this way you can decide how much you want on the salad.
The area's not so fabulous, although its really just that stretch of Morse. It's right off the red line stop, which probably significantly ups the weirdo quotient by itself. It would be sweet if there was more seating. Not a ton of parking available; some street parking, although there's a small shopping center with a parknig lot right across the street.
The owner looks gruff, but he's really nice. If you work in the area or live close and stop by every so often, he'll remember you.
A few tips: service can be a tad slow, so call ahead if you know what you want to order. Bring cash, too, as they don't accept credit cards.
Overall, I'm a fan. :)
Service is kind of slow, but the owner seems to know everyone who walks in and appears to enjoy chatting.
I was starving to death and didn't want to spend more than $5.55.
Luckily that was the exact cost of the chicken sandwich meal. The food wasn't exciting or unlike anything you can find at the next neighborhood joint but it tasted good so kudos for not burning my chicken.
Good and cheap but not super fast so consider that when trying to dash inside before trying to make the el.
I come here to do a character study of the owner. Â He has these really serious, thoughtful eyes, and could not care less about making friends. Â Every move he makes is meticulous; when he slices gyro meat it is like a sculptor; his movements have such precision. Â The other employee and he work in a silent rhythm, taking great care in every movement. Â I guess I don't really know he's the owner. Â But he's the owner. Â
Only the owner could have that much pride and care invested in making me a very precise 4.95 giant salad of fresh cucumber, tomato, and sweet onion piled high with fresh, spicy gyro shavings and the most delicious dressing. Â Plus, they grill the pita for a minute before you get it--genius. Â He won't make friends with you, but if you tip your bag after he carefully places all the necessities in it just so, he will scold you. Â How can that not be the best gyro salad you've ever gotten? Â Man, I wish I had that much precision and care in anything I did. Â
I also secretly hope I one day spot Wallace and Poot chatting in the corner, because this place is exactly like the spots the hoppers hang out in on The Wire (yes, sounds intriguing, doesn't it? Â It is actually the greatest show on earth. Â Get off yelp and go watch it now. Â Oh, not on hulu? Â The Wire is better than that. Â It deserves more than the internet. Â go buy it.)
Closed Sunday and Cash Only.
Typically delicious, if somewhat greasy gyros, with all the fixings (which were fresh the night I was there), but what distinguishes Morse Gyros from the pack is the tzatziki, which is rich and thick and won't dribble down your arm. Â Gyros come with a nice portion of unusually crisp crinkle cut fries, and for under $5.00, it's slightly below the market rate. Â For a lighter (and cheaper) option, try the veggie pita: Â it's a gyro minus the meat, plus cucumber slices and a healthy slice of feta, dressed with olive oil and oregano - all very fresh, and topped off with tzatiki.
Review Source:Hey, it's a gyro stand. Â This place, however, is a neighborhood standard. Â It's clean. The food is fresh and prepared just right. Â The guy who runs the place is friendly, takes no guff from the punks who test him now and then and works his tail off six days a week to keep a nice business going despite the challenges of being on Morse Ave.
If I'm in the mood for gyros, I'm coming here.
They have standard diner fare, but also broasted chicken. As a former chessehead, I've never seen broasted chicken outside of wisconsin. Broasted is deep fried under pressure, creating moist fried chicken. They also have awesome gyros, they grill the meat as it comes off the spit for that crunch. Excelent prices, like 1/2 chix dinner for under$6. The owner is quiet, but always moving, and the place is clean, though a little worn around the edges. Great carryout situation, as it is right across the street from the Morse El stop.
Review Source:When I lived in RP, this place had the BEST Gyros I'd ever tasted. And the Type A short order cook/owner was fun to watch - so efficient, moving at the speed of light with not one extra movement. Even if there's no one in the place, he's all Type A. I still occasionally make pilgrimages to this place for their Gyros. The rest of the menu is the standard short-order stuff, and the place is pretty nice and clean.
