Gino's North Pizzeria

I love this place.  It is also less than a block from my apartment so that helps.  The bar is a small gaudy little hangout that is only open after 4:00pm.  The drinks are priced well and the bartenders are all friendly and attentive.  Great place to go for a night-cap.  

As for the food, I have only ever ordered the pizza.  I must say the pizza is top notch.  I love it.  The dough is the Peggy's (the owner) recipe and is phenomenal.  It has a yellowish/orangish color to it.  The sauce is also extremely good.  Being originally from the North East where good pizza is everywhere, I had a very hard time finding good thin crust pizza in Chicago.  I love the deep dish, but it is just not practical a lot of the times.  Gino's offers a great thin crust because they pay attention to what really makes one pizza better than the other, the sauce and crust.  If you are ever in Edgewater and looking for a good pizza, look no other place than Gino's.  Make sure to have a drink while waiting for it!

Gino's North is a bit east of the newly cleaned up Granville Red Line Station.  A small joint, it's got one helluva long bar and about a half-dozen red leather u-shaped banquettes and tables.  Walk in here and time-travel back to the cigarette smokeless 1940s.  The ambience is swell and decades of good vibes must be floating about and/or seeped in the gleaming wood, because if you're having more fun than usual, don't feel weird.  5 plus stars for that.  However, the night we were there, the pizza wasn't that great.  (We thought it was the crust's fault.)  I so want to give this "gin joint" a rave review.  I love the fact there's Peggy, who's been making pizza there for 30 plus years in a 1950s apron and full make-up.  I love that there's a John and Spike.  John was bartending and waitering the whole place and doing a great job, but it was Friday night and the place was jumpin'.  2-3 stars.  I'll be back for a drink.  Gadzooks, how many times do you get to drop in on the past?  And know who won the war?  Yep, I'll be back.  I hear the combo sandwich is awesome.

I have been here twice and have had great experiences both times! The food and drinks are both delicious! The bartenders are very nice as well!! Also, another thing i love about this place is that it is a good place you can sit down and talk with a friend. Not too loud or busy which makes this place so great!!
