NEVER EVER order the teriyaki. Seriously, just don't do it. Stick with sushi and you will be fine. We went in for lunch. Sat at the table with the light on over it. Later another guy came in and ordered. When he told them he was going to eat there, they went ahead and turned the light on over his table too.

Worst chicken teriyaki bento box ever! You can't even taste any chicken meat. Some rice, lettuce, and something that looked like processed meat or whatever it was that they called chicken teriyaki. What a waste of my money! I wouldn't come back to this place even if they reduced the price to half. A $1 chicken sandwich from McDonalds would have tasted better. Others ordered sushi and it didn't look fresh at all.

It took forever for them to get our order prepared. I think it was an hour wait if not longer. There was one guy preparing the orders.

I live in the area and LOVE sushi, am a big seafood fan and connoisseur... this sushi is good bordering on awesome... (even with the prices also bordering on insane....)but the food is all taken down by the service and atmosphere. The place would depress a regiment! I would eat good sushi anywhere but between the STEEP prices and feel of the place thanks but no thanks for me.

It doesn't really matter what the food is like (although it's nothing special) when the people who own and run a restaurant are so rude. It always kills me when people act as if they're doing YOU a favor when you spend your money at their restaurant. I used to eat here about once a week but after a couple of years of trying to ignore the rudeness of the chef and other staff, I've stopped going entirely.

It is so interesting to see these reviews say how the staff are so polite and hospitable. I have gone here multiple times and experienced something quite different. At least three times the older woman server has scolded or was rude to us for one reason or another. In her defense our group was at least 8 people and this may be the cause of the issues. However, one would think that more customers would be a good thing. It should be stated that our group was polite and not loud or difficult in any way. The first time we were scolded, the woman said that we needed to call her ahead of time to let her know that we were coming since they were short staffed to handle our group. Fair enough we did not know but would let them know the next time. However in the same breath she threatens us by saying the next time we come and do not call ahead we would get dirty plates as she could not wash plates and serve us at the same time. Really? Did she really need to say this? OK maybe we caught her on a bad day.

The next time we show up, everything went well until we had to pay. This time the older woman said she wanted to make sure everyone tipped as she dropped the bill off. Did she need to say this? I typically tip 20% but when people are telling me to make sure I tip, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The third time we were there one person was skipped by the waitress (daughter of the older woman?) during the ordering and he was ok with that as he said he wasn't that hungry and was there to hang out with us. However, they filled his water glass and told him that the glass of water would be $2.00 since he didn't order any food. This caused the argument as he said he would have ordered but the waitress skipped him. After a minute of argument, the $2.00 glass of water was dropped but you could tell the the older woman was angry. We should note that the place only had 4 other people in it. Again the hospitality of the place is to be questioned. We decided after that, we would no longer patronize this place given the older ladies attitude and comments.

If it were not for this rude lady the food is good and would be a three point five star rating

Good sushi. It's not a replacement for my favorite, but this is close to my work and is very good. The prices are reasonable and the staff was very polite. I recommend the Macarthur roll.

Another sushi place on MacArthur! I came here because Kanpai Sushi closes at 7pm and this place is open until 9:30pm. They are a full service restaurant, but only a group of teenage boys were dining in this past Saturday night.

I wanted a quick, light meal so i opted for my usual, that's right, California roll, plus I also ordered a shrimp tempura roll. For $10, it was a satisfying meal. $4 for the California roll and $6 for the other.

Just because I am boring doesn't mean you have to be. They have a huge variety of maki and Nigiri to choose from. their Nigiri is 2 pcs and ranges from $3.00 (Inari) - $5.00 (Ikura).

And for those sushi phobics out there, they have about 15 rolls that contain cooked fish or seafood, including the Black Widow roll made with soft shell crab and a cooked salmon roll.

Next time I come I'll save some cash and get one of their lunch specials (M-F: 11-3) like two California rolls for $6.50. Or maybe I just might mix it up a little and get 1 California roll and 1 tuna roll for $6.75. Told ya before, I am very vanilla.

I wish I could write a more positive review because I like to support the small restaurants in the neighborhood. The sushi is mediocre and what I've had on the rest of the menu is not great. I got turned off the first time I went there a few years ago. I ordered tempura, and they served it with tonkatsu sauce. I asked if they had tempura sauce, and they said the tonkatsu sauce was the chef's special tempura sauce. [Chef, please read from http://cooks.com: "TEMPURA SAUCE: Drop bouillon cubes in water in a small saucepan and boil. Add soy sauce, sugar, and ginger; stir in grated radish." ] If you aren't familiar with Japanese food, tempura with tonkatsu sauce is like ketchup on ice cream, maple syrup on a t-bone, or whipped cream on shrimp creole. Since that first encounter, I've been dragged back a few times and I stick to sushi, and tell them to hold the mayonnaise.

Small family run sushi restaurant in a strip mall. It's next door to a not so good Chinese restaurant. The fish is always fresh and delish, it's some of the best for the money (you can definitely come out feeling stuffed and still spend under $30 for two people minus drinks). The service is excellent, and it is never ever crowded.

I'd have to throw in a plug for their specialty rolls- especially the MacArthur roll.

    Highly recommended!
