Kimmy L. is exactly right. This place is a hidden gem (with emphasis on the word GEM) and easily the best food I've had in Falls Church (which is saying a lot). We went on a Thursday evening around 7P and it was probably 1/3 full. We were seated immediately and ordered a bottle of wine, 2011 Louis Latour, Pinot Noir, which was fantastic by itself and even better with the bread and food. The wine list is very good, especially if you're a white wine drinker. Not as many red blends as I would expect, but they also have a limited supply of special wines (e.g. Cakebread) for $65-85.
Now the food part. The friendly waitress recommended either of the risotto dishes (lamb shank or scallops), so we got one of each. Both orders came out piping hot within 15 minutes (almost before we had a chance to finish the delicious flatbread). Both were large to XL servings (even for America). We are both big eaters and couldn't finish our plates. The lamb shank was so juicy it literally fell off the bone with a simple nudge from my fork. The scallops were seared in oil, but plump and juicy and the risotto was cooked perfectly for both dishes. Each pile of food was topped with salad greens (in a light balsalmic/blue cheese vinagrette), surrounded by cherry tomato halves.
The price is reasonable (maybe a little more expensive than the usual FC fare), entrees between $20-30, and the bottle of wine was $40, but well worth it. I think the same meal would be $25 more in the city. I honestly would put this place up against some of the finer DC restaurants (without the hassle of getting there, parking, etc).
We will definitely be going back!
We'd been meaning to go here for a long time, given how close it is to our house, and now I wish we would have been going here for years!
The wine was reasonably priced, and we had a difficult time choosing our entrees from the menu. Â I ordered the Lamb Shank Risotto, and my husband ordered a Chicken dish with couscous. Â The Lamb was amazing - it just fell off the bone, and the risotto was delicious as well. Â I wasn't a big fan of my husband's dish, but he really liked it. Â
We will absolutely go back!
This is quite the hidden gem in Falls Church located in an old hidden shopping center that you wouldn't even know existed unless you were specifically looking for this place or Taco Bamba.
After reading the great reviews my BF and 2 friends decided to give it a try one Tuesday night after work at approx 6pm. We walked in and the place was empty except for one 2-top in the back corner. The hostess immediately asked us if we had reservations and we apologized and said no. She looked irritated, heaved a big sigh and told us to wait. She walked to the bar and said something to another co-worker while we stood in the front of the EMPTY restaurant feeling like kids that were just put in timeout.
She came back a few minutes later and seated us (hid us) in the section of the restaurant that is hidden by a separation wall away from the main dining area. We came straight from work so it's not like we were slumming in sweats or anything. The boys were wearing ties and we girls had on work-dresses and pumps. Not cool.
They redeemed themselves with the incredible FOOD! Everyone at our table got either the Lamb Shank or the Salmon and Gnocchi. I tried both dishes and they did not disappoint. Lamb Shank was melt in your mouth fall off the bone deliciousness, and the Gnocchi was cooked to perfection, not soggy and had the sauce was light and flavorful. If we weren't treated like 10 year olds, I would have given this place 5 stars.
