it's the best lesbian bar in town..( it's the only one..)
We've been going for years and the staff are fast to serve and very friendly.
Sometimes the music is too loud...but maybe I'm just gettin old.

The owners of this bar are basically the coolest people in the world. It's always a blast at the New Moon! The outdoor patio is a great escape when it gets too cray-cray inside. ;-) No matter what, you'll have a good time.

I was visiting from out of state and friends took me here. We first hung out on the back "patio" I guess you call it. It's open to the outdoors, but covered and has its own bar. There were a lot of smokers, but that seems to be everywhere in Florida. The lighting was good, the crowd was diverse, and the drinks were strong. We then headed indoors to see what it was like, and there was a small crowd dancing, and lots of people standing around. It was a good crowd, and definitely a mixed crowd of different types of women. I found it to be way too dark inside - like if you  met someone there you might walk outside and realize they look very different than you thought. :)

So much fun! Much better than anywhere in Vegas

The number one reason it's better than the lesbian bars in Vegas --- There are real life lesbians there ;) Plus we don't have les bars out here, only clubs. I've never experienced an actual bar full of women... and I got to wear jeans (well, I wore a skirt. but I totally could have worn jeans!)

The bartender was amazing, very attentive. Literally all I had to do was look up and BAM there was another drink.  I don't know her name but she has short dark hair and is 'butch'. Adorable. Did I have a little crush? Maybe, but it was well deserved.

I felt very comfortable there, even danced and had a good time. I went on a Saturday and it was pretty busy.

Not sure if I have a different definition of "rough" or if it was just a weird night, but there were no real butchy girls there.. Other than the bartender, and even she smiled constantly.  I ended up talking to plenty of people, everyone was really sweet. Maybe I'm just oblivious to cliques,  but I didn't really notice anyone being rude.

I'm glad I went, and would definitely go back. and not only because I would like to do dirty, dirty things with the bartender :D

This is easily one of my favorite bars.

On the downsides, the drinks are pricey. The place is small. If you're a lover of larger, wall to wall crowds, this isn't the right place for most nights (better off keeping it for the weekend...and even then, don't expect wall to wall). I had a rough time finding it the first time I went. As has already been mentioned, this is a better place to hang out than it is to meet people.

Having said all of that, the atmosphere is good. I love the cozy aspect of it and that it ISN'T crazy loud/crowded. The bartenders are great, the owner is wonderful, bathrooms are clean, drinks are  decent. You've got an indoor area and an outdoor area to choose from, which is a nice plus for you smokers and anyone who can't stand being in the same surroundings for a whole night. I like to go back and forth between the two. They've got plenty of events going on throughout the week (karaoke, live music, etc.). I've seen plenty of different ages - this can be disappointing if you're a 20something looking to pick up hot girls, but refreshing if you're 40+ looking for a relaxing place to spend some time. There's a little bit of everything.

So what you may ask am I doing in a lesbian bar much less writing a review about one? Maybe it's because sometimes I act like one (don't ask) or maybe it is that if I come back in another life I'll be a lesbian, but until then let's just say I like new and different experiences. I just like fun times and don't a give hoot as to the sexual orientation of those around me, which is unless I happen to be out on the make.

Yes, the place is full of woman; most of whom I presume are lesbians. So, I certainly didn't try to put the make on any of them. Such would only be for a straight guy who enjoys rejection. Instead I was there for a good time and did have a good time. Everyone was friendly to me, the drinks were good, reasonably priced and everyone seemed to follow the Key West philosophy of "We are one people."

I thought most of the patons were on the butchy side of the scale as they were certainly all dressed in clothing that a drag queen wouldn't dare be seen wearing even on their worst day and would have easily fit in at the Ramrod. It was also rather refreshing to get away from the usual gay male disco background music and the twinky fems guys found in some of the other bars.

Though I can't say I'm a true fan of the place, I found it to be A-OK, full of humor and a lot of fun. Indeed it is a wonderful asset to the otherwise overwhelmingly gay male Wilton Manor community.

I've been here about 3 times and it's the first lesbian bar I've been to. It's pretty cool and definitely a different experience. Apparently the girls are..."tougher" here compared to the Miami scene, but you'll see pretty much everything.

They have 2 pool tables inside but some nights they move them to make room for a dance floor.

Drinks are decently priced but definitely go next door for some really cheap drinks.

I've only been here once, but that was enough.  Its an extremely small place, and even though my friend knew where it was, I still had to circle around to find it.  Its more of a hangout spot for friends than a place to meet women, although the fact that I accompanied a girlfriend of mine probably didn't help her case much -- two girls in a lesbian bar? Hmm... in retrospect, probably not the best idea.

The waitresses are nice, but not particularly quick to serve you.  The drinks are more expensive than most bars I've been to, but given that a lesbian bar is a rare commodity in South Florida, this is understandable.  I would recommend this place for groups going to hang out and relax, but not for anyone looking to meet new people.  Great venue, but not quite my style...

Now if only they had a ladies night....

    New Moon :)
I've been coming here for years, and I gotta be honest, it used to be a lot better. Or maybe I was younger and didn't know any better. Either way, if you're in the area you have to stop by, it's the only girl bar in the area so you can't miss out on the experience.

Most of the girls are-- butchier, so don't expect any South Beach flare-- more like jeans and t-shirts kinda gals. It's a nice chill bar to grab a beer with some friends and catch up.

The owner, Carol, is awesome too. You'll see her every once in a while socializing with the crowd, she's totally hilarious and definitely the life of the party.

Im a straight girl and had one of the best nights ever. It's literally a neighborhood hangout spot. You don't need to dress up, just come as you are and have a good time. I think it has improved since the last time I went, when they had this horrible dj.  It has gotten better since 3 years ago. I say have a girls night out and check out new moon.

This is 1 of the few girl bars that is located in south florida. it's in a great location (middle of the gayborhood across from Rosie's) don't come here if you are looking for good music and a place to dance-they don't have it. it's a very "clickish" bar. takes forever to get served if you don't personally know the bartenders. if you are looking for femmes don't come here-most of the women here are butch, they even have "softball sundays" the motto is 'come as you are" and boy do they! it's surprising that being in ft lauderdale the east coast san fran there isn't more women's bars who cater to the classy put-together ladies. visit tampa and st. pete for a better selection of girl bars. New Moon should be renamed Old Uranus.

OK so the karaoke drew me in and I realized pretty quickly that this was a lesbian bar but then of course I share the same tastes as lesbians and it actually felt more like home in San Francisco.

A very welcoming crowd here and a very chill vibe.  I forgot the name of the owner but she was bartending that night (apparently Thursdays are the only karaoke nights) and being South Florida the weather was balmy.

Very clean inside and of course the bathrooms are unisex.  Now if only they had fernet!

I went here while on vacation during Superbowl 07.

I like the place....the decor in the indooroutdoor patio was refreshing.  The bartenders were all super nice.  The ladies were all SO different.  The music lacked, big-time, but c'mon, lesbian bars aren't known for their music these days......I guess maybe they need some younger DJ's to step up.   ANYWHO, I'm going back this winter, and I'm excited about it!

    Get READY!

ahhh, new moon... pretty much the only exclusively lesbian bar in south florida.  though there are always a few guys wandering around (butch hags?) their slogan... come as you are.  see now you know it's a lesbian place.  if it were a gay guys bar, they would've spelled it differently.  ;)

the girls really do come as they are.  you'll be the most dressed up there in jeans and a nice shirt.  soo, it's pretty much the neighborhood lesbian bar.  i used to make it out on saturdays with some friends quite often when i was single.  haven't been any time lately though.

it was always a good time though.  they bring in live music and do sports stuff as well.  um, they serve food, but i'd stick to the reasonably priced drinks. i'll give a more recent update the next time i go.
