We came down here July 4th weekend on the Saturday, I expected it to be crowded but it wasn't at all. However, I didn't expect the $30 for 2 cover charge to get in. Yikes!
It was a beautiful evening and not too hot, so we came down on the bike (Harley). They let us self park real close with no parking cost which was nice. I asked the doorman about the cover charge and they just started doing it about a year ago. I guess they want to make sure you spend money and don't just come in to look around. Seems funny; I've never been charged to walk in to a 5 star hotel before!
We went to the Observation Bar. I used to live close by and would hang out there many Saturday nights. The atmosphere and view is still beautiful, and the service is still good. The view is not quite what it is compared with next door Fuego.
Came here on a Saturday night. Â I took Mr purple heart here, since he's NEVER been on the queen mary. Â I thought it would be fun 2 grab a few drinks. Â
It is true abt the $15 dinning voucher. Â But it wasn't bad b/c you're going to be spending that much anyways. Â It went towards the total bill.
We walked around the ship and took pictures. Â As we arrived the observation bar, there was a lot of empty seating. Â We grabbed a table in the back near the window, rt next to the performers. Â They were a cool cover band. Â Lead singer sounded like Lady Gaga. Â They were pretty cool. Â
There's a mixture of ppl here. Old and young. Â I felt a little over dressed in my summer dress. Â But ehhh, made the most of it. Â
The waitress was very attentive and friendly.
We ordered 2 mojitos, which came in huge glasses. Â For food, its all finger foods, so we ordered spinach and artichoke dip and bbq wings. Â The dip was fantastic! I really liked the flour chips they used. Â
We had a great time. Â Very chill place. Â Had an old time feel. Â
Oh yeah, if u dine here parking costs $5 instead of $15 if u show them the receipt from the bar.
We paid $15 each to have drinks at the bar and tour the Queen Mary. Music was way too loud and lame! I thought the Queen Mary would have classier music such as a jazz band in order to match the elegance of the ship. We were sorely disappointed that we were unable to order food after 10pm! We each had a drink and we were planning on staying there until 2am! How can a drinking establishment not serve food when there is alcohol involved? It should be illegal! I felt they were encouraging us to drink and drive. It was unacceptable! If they stop serving food at 10pm but the bar is open until 2am, there is a 4 hour period in which customers must stop drinking and try to sober up somehow. Perhaps they expect everyone who hangs out at the bar to get a hotel room there?
The consistency of the drinks were all over the place. My 1st drink had zero alcohol in it and was way too sweet. My second drink tasted awful and was undrinkable! My friend's drink was really excessively strong for a mixed drink. His brother's drink was ok...
We drove all the way from Huntington Beach since our friend was visiting from out of town and we all haven't been to the Queen Mary before. We would've gone elsewhere if we knew this place didn't serve food! There should at least be one place that serves food at the Queen Mary. However, there weren't any options! We inquired about room service but was denied. Apparently, they will not serve room service to the bar and after 10pm, our server had to get the manager's approval in order to give us complimentary peanuts. There are also no vending machines for snacks. I was very disappointed by the lack of services offered.
We asked to speak to the manager and our server told us she did not know where he was! We had to spend a $45 credit in drinks since there was no choice in getting anything else. Service was very slow. The bar was quite busy due to an event on the ship, however, only one server was working. This really ruined my experience here and I will never be back!
Service was pretty poor. I felt like the servers were annoyed that we were there and kept trying to get us to leave as soon as possible. We were confused because we called before we came and they said they closed at midnight, but at 11:35 they said they were closed. Drinks were pretty good. Ship is beautiful! I will go back again because I really want to see the rest of the ship and the other dining experiences!
Review Source:I live in Long Beach and one of my favorite things about our city is seeing the majestic QM while driving / walking along Ocean Blvd.
For many years now myself and friends have frequented the gorgeous Observation Bar. It's our go to place when we want a special night out.
However, it's no longer classy nor special. First they implemented the $15 fee just to get into the bar. Yes, the $15 goes toward your bar and food tab but it's such a confusing and tacky process of having to hand over a voucher to get a cocktail and the annoyed attitude of the bartenders doesn't help.
This past weekend we celebrated our friend's 50th birthday there and let's just say experience was less than hospitable. We called several times before the event asking questions regarding parking, decorating and reserving tables. We were told they can't reserve tables and that we could put up some decorations.
The day of the party myself and a few friends got there early to set up and save some tables since it was going to be about 30 of us. Thirty people that can drink and planned on spending money there.
After putting up several decorations we were approached by an employee and told we had to take everything down. That we could only have decorations on the tables. I explained that when I called this was not conveyed to me. The manager finally agreed to let us keep a small Happy Birthday sign. How benevolent of her. Then they tried to gouge us $2.50 a person to eat our own cupcakes which was also never explained to us. Finally, the manager agreed to waive the fee when we explained we could take our group and our money elsewhere. They also kept hassling us about saving some tables even though the bar was empty and we had 30 people coming.
The mojito is what always brings us back. Let's just say the mojitos we were served were NOT what we've become used to and tasted like something that should only be consumed for medicinal purposes. The bartenders were not consistent in the drinks being served and less than friendly. The only bartender worth his salt is Evon! This gentleman knows how to make a cocktail and was very friendly and on it. He was the best part of the evening and hope they don't lose him. He's the only thing that bar has going for it these days.
You keep raising the prices but the quality of service has gone DOWN. If I'm  going to pay $12.63 for a mojito I expect it to be good and not something I can get at TGI Fridays. Yes, the Observation Bar charges taxes on their cocktails.
Won't be coming back anytime soon.
The only reason I gave a two star review instead of a one star, is because the view can't be beat.
Swanky, but not stuffy. We recently visited Observation Bar aboard the Queen Mary after visiting their holiday event, Chill.
The interior of Observation Bar is period, just as you'd imagine; the mix of guests enjoing spirits ranged from young couples to older folks, some of whom were definitely locals/regulars.
The bar had holiday drinks which were tasty, but a bit expensive. Once I tried one of them (minus one of the ingredients, which was disappointing - DON'T run out of ingredients for special drinks you're advertising), we switched to regular well drinks, which were nicely made.
There was live entertainment that was just packing up for the night when we arrived, which was a bummer; in all fairness, it was a Sunday night. I imagine we will return again and hopefully experience live music as part of the bar's offerings.
Service was good; our waitress/server was spot on and very friendly; chatty, but not annoying, and very attentive. No problem at all with the staff.
We sat next to a window looking out at Long Beach, and imagined how it must have been long ago when the mighty ship was out cruising the oceans. Very romantic and very cool, for sure.
I can't imagine this bar getting packed, loud and rowdy; it seems more laid back and mellow. Perfect for after dinner drinks on a date night!
Drinks on the Queen Mary is an experience. Each martini is about $11 dollars. Â We had a chocolate martini and a ginger pear martini. Both were made to perfection (strong).
Unless you are staying there you have to buy a $15 certificate (per person) from the ticket office before they allow you to board. It is worth it for the nostalgia and has a very classic feel.
After you are done drinking you can wander the boat.
Everyone is right - overpriced, but you're there for the ambiance. Great location in the legendary Queen Mary.
The crowd is a mix bag with many tourists, elderly, and young couples. But who cares, everyone is there for a drink in one of the greatest locations in the world.
The drink menu is decent, but holy cow... $14 for a martini? No thanks. Ill stuck with my diet coke and Malibu. My other half ordered their holiday drink, which is a mix of cherry, chocolate, and peppermint... Wait. They ran out of peppermint. Oh well! It was still really good.
Service was fine. She was fast and easy to get a hold of.
Will definitely come back if I happen to be on ship!
This place is an art deco dream. I would absolutely love to see this bar do well, but I feel it's being mismanaged. I have always come here when staying on board, but I have heard others grumble about the parking and the $15 fee to get on board. I think that's ridiculous. The Queen Mary should be as open as possible to visitors if they want to generate business. If I'm hit with a big cover charge, that cuts into the money I would spend at the bar itself. I don't understand this business model. It seems to be turning more people off than helping. I also asked a bartender about their advertised happy hour and he seemed confused. He didn't know what I was talking about and then quickly said we don't have it today. That makes sense since it was a Friday, but they should tell people that on the sign outside!
The bar itself has hit or miss service. I've been here when I was ignored completely and other times when my order is being taken before I have a chance to look at the menu. Some drinks come out weak, while others are super strong. I guess that's the case at any bar, but if I'm being overcharged for drinks I would expect greatness. The room itself is divine. I can't wait until they put bar stools that resemble the original ones in. The carpet sucks and looks worn, but I love the fixtures so much. I really do feel like I'm in the 1930s when I drink here, but they need to take out the TV. This isn't a sport's bar!
The biggest problem with this bar is the food menu. The prices are outrageous for what they are offering. $10 olives really? $15 shrimp cocktail, c'mon! It's a Hodge podge of apps that don't make any sense for this bar. It's a shame because it's one of the only casual food spots on the ship. If you're staying on board and get hungry late at night, you might be sh*t out of luck besides this and room service. They really need help getting their act together. They should charge half of what their charging and actually make things fresh instead of opening containers from Costco.
The patio is another thing I would like to see changed. Since the QM was meant for Atlantic crossings it wasn't meant to have an outdoor patio. The decor is minimal out there. Great view, but there are no heat lamps and the furniture looks very cheap. I wish it would mirror the inside at least a little.
The OB will continue to be a place I frequent when staying on board, but the management really needs to step it up. They should add pub food and bring the prices down. You have a great room that's going to waste. I haven't been here to see a band play, so that's definitely on the list of to-dos for next time.
There are worse places to enjoy a martini than the Observation Bar on the Queen Mary, but for those reviewers rhapsodizing about this being some kind of cocktail mecca and the coolest bar ever: folks, you need to get out more. Â
The bar is indeed a genuine art deco lounge, as advertised, but it's well short of being the type of "classic cocktail bar" the likes of which you can find many of in San Francisco, Seattle, or L.A.  First, the music (at least when I was there) was an atrocious mélange of 1950s-era pop.  (It's an art deco bar - play some jazz for crying out loud.)  Secondly, a heavier hand on the dimmer switch would improve the atmosphere immensely.  It's one thing to walk into a mostly empty bar, another to find every table lit up as if in daylight. Thirdly, I sat at the bar and either the stools are too low or the bar too high, because at 5' 10" I found myself straining to rest my arms in a way that didn't feel like a kid invited to eat with the grown-ups for Christmas dinner.
The young bartender, Alberto, is friendly and competent but clearly none too knowledgeable about his art. Â I asked for an Old Pal (bourbon, dry vermouth, Campari) - nothing too obscure, and a drink most bartenders know instantly. Â Alberto had never heard of it, but to his credit, was enthusiastic about mixing something new, it tasted fabulous, and he only charged me $11 (because it was "off menu") which I thought a reasonable sum. Â He asked my preference for garnish, and I asked for an orange twist, but the drink arrived with the shortest version I've ever seen (about an inch long), left floating in the drink looking like a man overboard. Â Even more alarmingly, it was accompanied by a beefy-looking orange slice perched on the side of the glass. Â Some might call that value for money, I suppose, I thought it very odd. Â
The crowd on the night I visited was a mixed bag of tourist-types (this writer included) and couples on dates, most dressed very casually (think jeans and fleece). Â Maybe on the weekend, when there's live music, the crowd may be more dapper in keeping with the decor, I don't know (and don't plan to find out.)
The view and the atmosphere are great. You can go out on the deck, walk all around the ship. A unique bar experience. Unfortunately, the table service is absolutely atrocious. We got a table and the waitress never once stopped at our table. Do yourself a favor and just go straight to the bar.
Review Source:This is one of those places where I'm sure the vibe is a 180 from day to night. Unfortunately, we only made it to the Observation Bar once and it was the late afternoon. The decor is gorgeous. We finally ended up sitting at the bar after it was apparent that the waitresses had no plans on serving us at the table we had first picked out. The bartenders were great. We had a couple of Mai Tais prior to our haunted encounters walk. Maybe a little pricey but an EXCELLENT drink.
Review Source:I'm torn about Observation Bar. The architecture & decor is STUNNING and the band rocked the house, lots of people dancing. We had a very fun night. However! Service was reluctant and slow with a bit of an attitude, and the food is AWFUL. I don't mind the $15 voucher, you're going to spend it on drinks anyway. It keeps out the looky-loos, so the at wasn't overcrowded. It was the perfect amount of crowded. But the food tastes like someone ran into Costco for frozen shrimp, giant blocks of pepper jack and bags of hot wings. In such a setting , the kitchen & the floor staff should do a little better.
Review Source:By far the coolest bar I have ever been to. I decided to take my love (at the time) to grab drinks after dinner for his birthday. Totally did not know what to expect considering I was new to Long Beach. Man, it's times like these I'm so grateful for Yelp :')
This place is absolutely stunning. From the moment you walk through the doors, to sitting outside to a lovely waterfront view. Though drinks are a wee-bit expensive here, people need to factor in the historical value of this place... it's like paying to go to a museum, but just in terms of alcohol.. hope that makes sense :) plus you get a KILLER view.
This place is romantic. LOVE! Will definitely be back here if I'm ever in Long Beach again. Truly a memorable night. Highly recommend.
The Observation Bar on the Queen Mary is probably one of the coolest bars in Long Beach. For starters its on the Queen Mary which is pretty cool all by itself and it has a great view of the Harbor and also Downtown Long Beach.
When we went to the Observation bar, we sat outside behind this plexiglass thing and it was awesome. The wind was non existent so you didn't need outside heaters and it was really quiet and chill up there. On the weekends they have a band that played but I have not been able to check that out yet.
One of the biggest things that kept me from coming to the bar was that you have to pay those crazy fees to park at the Queen Mary. Well I learned that they do validate and you can go in there and have a few cocktails and whatnot and get out of there for a few dollars instead of $12 or whatever the full price is. Also another option and my new found way of traveling around downtown Long Beach is on the Passport. The C bus will take you up and around Pine Avenue, down to shoreline and the over to the Queen Mary parking lot. This bus is free so you don't have to deal with any driving and drink all you want.
Dear "new management" of the Queen Mary,
Fuck you, you greedy assholes. Â
After having been regulars at the Observation Bar, and talking it up to many other people (see earlier review), my wife and I took a group of five friends from out of town there a couple of weeks ago to find that there is a new policy for customers not staying at the Queen Mary hotel: in order to step foot on the boat, every person must purchase a $15 "voucher." Â So we left.
I don't mind that the drinks are overpriced; as I said in my first review, that much can be expected since the place is such a gem. Â But with this new policy, I no longer think it makes any sense to make the trek over to the Queen Mary. Â If you want to go for one drink, that'll be 15 dollars, plus parking. Â If you want to get your 15 dollars' worth, you and everyone with you have to plan your night around being at the bar.
To me, the Observation was a place to get a drink, see the view, and then explore and learn about the ship. Â The bar itself is not a place to spend a large part of your night. Â The message from the new management's $15-entrance fee is clear: customers like me are a waste of their time. Â I'm surprised if they can afford to lose these customers, who I'm sure make up much of the Observation Bar clientele. Â Maybe it's just me, but I doubt there is much overlap between people who appreciate the Observation and people who are accustomed and willing to pay a cover to go to a bar. Â Oh well. Â I wish this new management speedy and painful bankruptcy. Â And also they can go straight to hell.
Tonight was my first visit to the Queen Mary. It's a shame that my first time was ruined by the Observation Bar. The old architecture is cool, however, the appetizers and drinks were overpriced and average. Better off going to BJ's, Yard House, TGI Fridays etc. $15 dollars for a shrimp cocktail with 5 shrimp?!!? Spinach artichoke dip that tasted store bought?!? To make matters worse, our server was slow. So slow that we didn't wait for our change, just walked out!!
TAKE MY ADVICE!! Â Go to the Queen Mary to be spooked out of your mind on one of the ghost tours. Skip the Observation bar and get drinks and appetizers at the Pike or downtown!!
The ship, bar and bands get a 5 star!!! But the new management for the queen mary gets a 3 star or less. Dont like the new $15 voucher idea!!! I do agree on maybe a $5 cover charge to walk onto the ship to keep it here making money but the $15 crap is bull!
I use to go her about 3 times a month to see Jennifer Keith and the band and enjoy a few drinks with friends. But not only did they take them off the ship on Fridays (bad $$$ move on the management side) now they got the voucher deal.
I went this Friday to enjoy a drink and enjoy great music and see the great dancers, not knowing of the new changes. My friend and i both bought a $15 voucher each to be able to get on the ship. BAD explation of how the voucher works and also while being told about it atleast 10 people walked away :(
warning!!!! if you just want to get a $10 drink or maybe dont want to drink and just enjoy the music and have a $2.50 soda will no matter what it is, it's going be $15 and no change back!!! I ask other people and bar tenders how they felt about it and they all said they HATE it! Great job management!!! lol feel bad for the bartenders cause they will get less tips.
Queen Mary: want more money? charge a daily cover charge of $5 to get into the boat and bring Jennifer Keith on Fridays and the bar will be full again!
I met up here for a friend's birthday. This is not my first go at the Queen Mary but it is my first time at the bar. I think the decor is reallllly cool. But, it's the Queen Mary for Christ's sake so I am sure in it's hayday it looked even more amazing.
I also felt very underdressed. Everyone in there looked like they just got off the set of Boardwalk Empire. The band was cool, also dressed like Steve Buscemi.
I ordered a gin and tonic but, meh. I originally had wanted a slow-gin fizz (which they didn't make) and considering it is an old-timey place you think they would make throwback cocktails but they didn't.....uh, confused but whatever.
I would probably recommend this place to any friends that are coming in from out of town and want to do something special, or a fancy date.
Wow, what a bar! Â Five stars for this unique and historic art deco lounge (located at the forward end of the Queen Mary's main deck)!
When we visited on a recent Sunday evening the place was fairly busy but far from full-- perfect for relaxing with a cocktail and enjoying the ambiance of the place. Â Our server informed us that happy hour was going on until 19:00 and all appetizers were half price (no discount on drinks except for drafts and wells). Â We thought the house band was karaoke at first, but their sound improved in proportion to alcohol consumption. Â By the time we left there several people out on the dance floor, even!
Based on the food, drinks, service, and music I probably would have rated this place three stars at the most if it were anywhere else. Â The Observation Bar's setting aboard a historic steam liner, however, put it in a class of its own. Â Going to the bar also give you the benefit of being able to tour the ship without paying for a tour or renting a hotel room, plus they'll validate parking (still costs $5, though).
Looking forward to returning here!
It was my first time stepping foot on the Queen Mary. There was a live band to enjoy and the people watching made for even better entertainment. Especially when the roller derby girls arrived! Â
I would definitely like to come back and try the Sunday Brunch or the fine dining restaurant.
Well, I am biased since I ADORE my beloved Queen Mary. I have loved her since I was a child. She can do no wrong in my book.
So it stands to reason that I love the Observation Bar. It takes me back in time. I kinda lose myself when I am here and sitting at the art deco bar, or in a cozy little table. I like to get a martini and imagine all the women who lounged here before me. Of the whispered conversations from the past, or the lingering energy of boisterous laughter from eras gone by.
I wouldn't recommend the food here. I can't say the drinks are super strong (unless you get friendly with your 'tender). I can't say there is a trendy, young, hip crowd. But you get an intersting mix of vacationers from other continents who offer a friendly chat. They do have a happy hour. And there is a magnificent view and breeze out on the deck. And you get  the honor of immersing yourself history.
Wander around after a few cocktails and let the Queen embrace you with her mystery and secrets and faded glamour.
Since I'm on summer vacation I've decided that I'll hit up as many happy hour spots as my wallet can handle. (Unfortunately my wallet is crying right about now.) Anywho, since I was on a mission to utilize my vacation time I also decided that I'd bike here from Belmont Heights.
FYI: There's a bike path that leads up to the Queen Mary! Yay! However, there's really no bicycle parking at the Queen Mary, only an old-school rack underneath the member stairs near the outdoor restrooms. Boo.
After biking the rough terrain and dodging all the foot traffic, I made it! What can I say that hasn't already been said?
One: It's definitely not filled with younger folks. Well, I went on Sunday...so maybe it is on other days? However, I did enjoy seeing the elderly couples dance the evening away. Aww.
Two: I ordered the BBQ Chicken sliders and they were alright. Nothing specials, just filling. My friend ordered the Artichoke Dip + Chips...whoa greasy galore!
Three: There's always someone around to wait on you, yay!
Four: LIVE MUSIC! The duo that played while we were there rocked it. From pop music to oldies, they knew it all.
Will I come here again? Yes! Well, when my wallet stops crying. Â

Oh. So you're 21+ and you've been to a few bars, have you?
Your best bar you've ever been to does not compare with the Observation Bar.
Did you just turn 21 and you're looking for a wild bar to pick up guys/girls and have a drunken good time? This is not it.
The Observation Bar is for the calm and cool cats. Chill, relaxed, and classy are the three words that come to mind. This is a place where you want to bring your closest friends, sit around a small table, and enjoy each others' company while being enveloped by beautiful art deco interior.
When I go here, which is usually late hours, the crowd is gone and I really get sucked into the surrounding beauty. Outside the windows is the beautifully lit Long Beach harbor and Shoreline. Inside the bar is endless art deco style in every direction. I can almost imagine myself aboard the ship, enjoying a cocktail as I traverse the Atlantic.
This bar is a true time machine. It's beautiful. I strongly, strongly encourage a visit. You'll see what I mean.
Another Guinness, my friend!
Aye, we'll have another Guinness and share one of those delicious chicken quesedillas, jalapenos on the side, por favor. What a grand view...who could ask for more? Like sitting in a time capsule frozen in the late forties, high style on the high seas. Good bar grub, cold beer, warm friends, I wish it'd never end.
(I'm a native and therefore my gratuitous use of multiple languages is justified)
I kid you not when I say this is the best place in California to take a date or a guest. Â Easily the most romantic, swinging place I've been. Â The 80 year old Latino gentleman in front of us kept the dance floor going, replete with wood cane, blue suit, and waxed mustache, not to mention a glass of cognac in one hand and his belle in another. Â He might actually have been the most interesting man in the world.
This place is spectacular. Â The jazz band they have playing on Friday and Saturday nights is outright phenomenal, and there's no cover. Â Beyond everything, this is easily the coolest decor I've ever seen in a bar, right down to the wood tables and view of the harbor. Â Pricewise, it's basically what you'd pay for a drink downtown ($8-$9 a pop), but you get an aura and atmosphere that is truly unrivaled, not to mention authentic jazz standards in a place where they were meant to be played. Â Just make sure you get your parking ticket validated at the bar; after that, it's five bucks, instead of twelve.
If there's one recommendation I can confidently make on Yelp, this is it, Â although I should preface that by saying Friday and Saturdays are when the jazz is thumping; I can't speak to the other days.
Right after attending a wedding on board the QM, a few of us wanted to keep the party going, so we hit up the only bar that stays open until 2:00 a.m. on the ship. Â
It was a Saturday night, a jazz band was playing and the place was littered with Marines celebrating the Marine Corps. Ball. Â We found a spot out on the patio area, which was lovely and offered nice views of Long Beach. Â I only had beers for the rest of the night, but the prices were decent considering there was no where else to go.
One note: Â They do accept credit/debit cards here, but they cannot leave a tab open for you. Â Cash out as you go.
I love art deco and this bar has original art deco design from the days when the Queen Mary sailed the seas. Plus an incredible view. Beautiful no matter where you look both inside and out.
I had a couple of vodka & sevens which were proportionally mixed well. Great service. And they had some great live jazz playing the night I was there.
I'll definitely be back to enjoy the atmosphere of this place.
Sure, there are a great many ways to break into the card, cold shell that surrounds my heart. But, one surefire winner every time: art deco decor. I get all warm and fuzzy just thinking about chevron patterns and sunburst motifs. It comes as no surprise that The Observation Bar tickles my fancy.
Not only do you get a spectacular view of the Long Beach Harbor, the view inside the bar ain't half-bad either. In fact, it's almost not bad at all. Actually, it's pretty spectacular itself.
With lots of comfy seating, and a patio that...well...it's not the best patio in the world, but - hey! It's a patio! (And it helps for those times when the Queen Mary AC is down...which seems to be....well...more often than not.) But, I'll leave you with this....they make a killer mojito. And sippin' a killer mojito at a snazzy art deco bar on an historic ship...well, that's a good time!
As a champagne aficionado I immediately fell in love with the lovely art deco glasses they serve the bubbly in here. The bar itself I was a little disappointed in. This is probably my own fault though as I romanticized the idea of cocktails in an art deco bar on a historically famous old boat. And, very often often, any time you build up your expectation like that you're bound to be a little disappointed.
It was just little things like the plastic windshield on the boat deck and potato skins as the highlight of the bar menu that really brought the classiness level down a notch for me here. But, it is quite nice to experience the old uneven wood floors polished to a high shine and the cool little shopping area that let you imagine what the ship was like in its heyday. Plus, those glasses are absolutely fabulous, especially filled with a Kir Royale.
I haven't been to the Queen Mary since I was 14 or so...  We took the tour and I was less than thrilled I can recall. So, last night while in Long Beach we decided to stop by and now that I am of age to drink we wanted to have cocktails in the bar.... The boat itself is beautiful and I can now appreciate the beauty of it more so than when I was here last. So, we stroll into the bar where  we are greeted by a super friendly bar tender.. The place was busy and the crowd was so diverse. People ranging from early 20's to what looked like 100 years old were in here getting their drink on. Oh, and there was a lounge singer doing Englebert Humperdinck covers to Johnny Cash covers to Elvis to  The Shirelles.....Fun stuff... I would give them 5 stars but the wine list sucked and we had to pay with cash. Their credit  card machine was down....
In all this place is fun...... I can't wait to come back with my girlfriends....
I got 2 words for ya: Ghost Hunting.
But first, I should actually review the bar. It's great! Total old decor, decent bartenders who are 'heavy handed', they serve food, ample seating and probably one of the best views of Long Beach around. Sit outside on the deck at night and you will seriously be amazed at the view--our little skyline is actually pretty awesome all lit up!
After you get yo'self all lubricated, grab a to-go cup (yes, you can walk around w/your drinks so long as they remain in a plastic cup) and take yo'self on a guided tour of this old ship. There's SO much history and if you know a lot of the stories (like I do) you can get really creeped out. **If you've found yourself caught by the rent-a-cops or employees checking for fires, just tell them you are staying in the hotel and are lost. They won't bother you much after that. =)
**Also, to avoid paying any fees to enter the ship just tell the guys at the front that you are going to the bar/restaurant. To avoid parking fees you must either go after 6pm (I think) or have your ticket validated by the restaurant. (which means you'll need to eat there)
