Food is decent, delivery is terrible. Â I mean, TERRRIBLE.
Ordered through Eat24. Â Was given an estimated delivery time of 45-60 minutes. Â 70 minutes later, I contact Eat24's live chat b/c after ordering, my fiance was having a medical issue and I felt I needed to take him to the ER. So I contacted them on the live chat to cancel the order as it was already late and I had to go right then. Â I was told that the delivery person was parking. Â Fine, I'll just grab the food and put it in the car and we'll go and I won't lose $35
No delivery guy in sight and parking in front of my building is easy. Â While packing the car with our stuff and the fiance, I tell the Eat24 people to cancel the order and give me my money. Â This whole ordeal takes about 20 minutes, yes, nearly 20 minutes after the delivery guy was allegedly "parking." Â I go to get in the car to leave and guess who arrives? Â You got it, delivery guy. Â And it's funny, there is a girl in the passenger seat. Â Hmmm, I wonder why my food was 30 minutes late. Â
Also, the order was messed up. Â Wrong meats in the tacos. Â So I was not pleased and won't be ordering again.
The chips are really good and so was the guac, everything else just ok.
We went here and I have to say it was pretty good. Things started off a bit odd as we walked in the door we got a look like "what are you doing here". The place was empty in fact we where the only ones in the restaurant the entire time we we where there which for a Friday night is not good if you are a restaurant owner. I did see lots of delivery going out the door though. Good news the server warmed up and brought us some comp tortilla soup they just added to the menu it was good a little heavy on cumin but tasty.  Chips and salsa was nice home made and crispy.  We started with the special bean chorizo cheese app it's  kinda like quesa fundito with beans it was really good as the beans are great and have awesome seasoning We had steak tacos and a chicken tamale both where fresh and meat was good quality. The prices are good and it is BYOB which is a nice option but sometimes  you want  service for your cocktails. All in all pretty good for a lunch, pick up or a casual quick dinner but the atmosphere all though comfortable is a little fast food pick up more then relax and enjoy a nice dinner.  No negatives here food was good give it a try,
Review Source:i have had way better Mexican food! I cooked way better Mexican food! I order the "special" and got a steak taco and a qusadilla. It was gross and greasy. The steak didn't have any flavor. Also the server was less the friendly, sorry, I left unsatisfied with heartburn. It is highly unlikely I will return.
Review Source:I wanted NACHOS and I got nachos. I should have been skeptical when I saw them on the appetizer menu, but at $6.99 (on par with the rest of the meatless items) Â I was confident I would get what I paid for. Wrong. My "meal" consisted of seven chips with cheese, gauc, and sour cream. That's it! While the chips were quite good, the toppings were nothing special. As a business that promotes itself as being a healthy establishment I would have expected to see some lettuce and tomato, if not for the more extravagant jalapeno, beans, and corn. Needless to say my craving went unsatisfied. I could possibly give this place another go sans nachos. Â It is by far the closest Mexican joint to my apartment, but until proven otherwise, my expectations will remain mediocre at best.
Review Source:First off, they have Zabiha Halal meat (for those of you who are muslims)....
Service: besides the attitude problems of our server, everything went smoothly because I'm never a fussy customer. There was one thing that got under my skin though I asked the server for extra Pico de gallo and she looked at me like a "Lion would Cabbage" and said that it is already on my entree, to which I decided to tell her the meaning of "EXTRA"....
Menu: Pretty diverse with all day breakfast Mexican style! I got the Black bean and Beef Taco Salad and surprisingly wasn't that bad. Their salsa had a little zing to it, which is the way I like it but the Pico de Gallo was well for lack of a better word unimpressive. My friends had chicken Tacos and they said there was a weird smell to the cooked chicken....I had no complaints about my salad, though you'd have to be a complete and utter moron to mess up a salad :D
Decor: Very Simple cafeteria style.
Price: Pretty reasonably priced and they also have Papa's Specials which include choices of mix and match with Tacos, enchiladas etc etc....
All in all, I'd visit if you just want to try it, but not the best mexican I've tried....
Hope this helps
This place is absolutely DISGUSTING. We've been searching for a decent, simple taco salad and decided to give this place a try. And hey, a $9.00 taco salad must be good for that price, right? Wrong.
First and foremost, the advertise it with "special veggies." Assuming this meant tomatoes and maybe peppers, didn't ask to hold them. What they really were: TONS of sliced mushrooms and cooked spinach. How does this even make sense in a Mexican taco dish? The flavor overpowered everything, including the shell.
On top of the disgusting ingredients, it was nothing but a stew inside of a shell. Everything was mush and seemed to be cooked in a pot with the spinach and mushrooms. Gag.
Finally, there was so much grease pouring through the bag, it was dripping all over the floor and table. Do not spend money here.
I'll start off by saying... GROSS!!!!
Although I know it's never a great idea to have mexican food delivered, we figured we live close enough to the restaurant, why not. The food was cold, bland & myself as well as my two friends who ordered with me had to throw our food out.
I really wish I could pass it off as an "off day" for this restaurant, but the food was so terrible that I don't think I will ever order from them again & neither will my two friends.
Besides the terrible food, they also had terrible service. One of the orders was wrong & when I called in to speak with the woman who had taken my order originally she argued with me & insisted that I was the one who made the mistake.
The request was simple No Onions in the Quesadilla's, as my friend is allergic. I guess the woman taking my order must have had early dementia, because 4 other people heard me say it.
Hey Papacito's, you are my new friend. I finally decided to venture out of my new apartment (okay so I've been living there for 4 months now) and eat more food nearby. I'm not a HUGE fan of Mexican food but I saw it today and just felt like a taco. I ended up getting the daily special (taco, quesadilla, rice & beans, and a drink for 7.99 + chips and salsa for 1.49) to go. Soooo much food and so good. The chips and salsa portions are huuge and delicious. Everything tastes pretty dang good, especially those beans. I'll be eating this all week.
The ambience inside is so adorable, warm, and homey, it made me want to stay around and eat inside on this unusually chilly September night. Oh, and the people there were really nice too!
Dear Papacito's: I think I love you.
Growing up around O'Hare (or what some may refer to as "Little Mexico", I've gotten used to having good, cheap Mexican food nearby. After moving to the Northside, I realized my options were limited.
Then, Papacito's swooped in and saved the day.
I've had the Huevos Mexicano, Carne Asada, and pancakes. Yes, this Mexican restaurant has some ah-maaazing pancakes. Oh - and let's not forget about the guac, flan and tres leches cake.
Everything has been pretty amazing so far, however I did find their flan a little "meh" and their chips a little salty. Still, not bad enough to deter me!
Only complaint? The $20 delivery minimum is a little high for this single girl. Because really? Ordering 2 entrees (pancakes for breakfast tomorrow - yay!) + appetizer or dessert in order to meet the minimum is not doing the size of my ass any favors.
I dunno dude. In case you're not fluent in Californian, that just means I'm kinda disappointed.
I walked in during the middle of the day, and I was the only customer. Out came the free chips and salsa, which were OK. I ordered the steak taco, a tamale, and a side order of rice and beans, and was immediately taken to Sad Town. It's upsetting when the best tasting thing on the plate is the beans. The rice was bland, the steak wasn't seasoned, and the tamale's masa was crumbly and dry. To be fair, it was edible. But calories are valuable things! I wouldn't want to spend them here again.
The woman who took my order was attentive - she checked on me a few times throughout my meal - but she never smiled once. It made me feel like an awkward turtle. It felt more like she was rushing me than checking on me. So to sum up: Papacito's Mexican Grille...I dunno dude.
I stopped in for lunch here today, and the place was pretty empty. Â I don't understand why. Â The food was great, the service was good, the bathroom was clean, and you could see them cook the food!
Everything I had was at least good. Â The rice was just fine, after that everything else was great. Â The beans were really good, the chips and salsa were homemade and great. Â The fish tacos were incredible. Â And my meal was only $7.99!
I will definitely be back!
If you are looking for good, quality Mexican food this is the spot. Â The vegetables are always fresh and the chicken and beef is high quality. Â We order from here twice a week and are never disappointed. Â If you haven't tried chorizo you should. Â We put it on everything from eggs to the fajitas. Â I'd also suggest their guacamole, it's awesome.
Try Papacito's you'll love it. Â
Oh and they are a bunch of nice people.
Every time I order from here I pray the food gets better. Somehow, God isn't listening. The veggie tacos are down right disgusting. Who in creation puts sauteed, unsalted spinach in a taco? It's Mexican food, greasy style--let's not try to get all Rick Bayless here people. The chips are thick, stale and you can basically see through them.
The one good thing is a vegan wrap but why serve it with refried beans on the side?! This makes no sense. The people are always rude and just uninviting and really, this place needs to get a menu/staff makeover stat. I think I've seen the last of this place. BYOB or not, this is not a place to get your Mexican food fix on! And, to top it off, it's not cheap! There's no excuse.
To describe it in one word: Terrible.
They even messed up the canned soda. We didn't order three, why would we order three. There are two of us, and we each want one drink. Not 1.5 per person. The serving size on the side of the can doesn't say "suggested serving size 1.5 cans."
Don't order the Appetizer Sampler. They give you a half of  a Cheese Quesadilla, 2oz of Guacamole, and FOUR "Nachos." Now, if you think they will actually take the time to count out four chips, and put guacamole, cheese and sour cream on them individually, then you are correct. They actually do give you four. I really don't know what to do with the guacamole, since all four of the "nachos" have it on them. All of that for the low price of $8. It's a great deal because it's cold, and everybody loves cold quesadillas and cold nachos.
I really don't understand the process, but I'm guessing this is how our order went.
1. Server takes order to kitchen.
2. Order is cooked fresh, but not according to specifications.
3. Order of hot food is placed in cooler.
4. Food is checked to see if it is hot.
5. If food is cold, it is ready to be served.
When ordering the Carne Asada Plate, don't order it medium, because it will be charred and bloody. (That isn't how you cook Carne Asada to medium.)
It really seems like they went out of the way to make this order the worst possible. I don't know how they stay in business. I don't know why people eat here.
*Hot sauce is not included, but available upon request, if they feel like it.
We order Papacito's regularly for delivery. Â There are very few viable Mexican delivery options - and when they do, it usually is not good. Â Papacito's however is very good - and it delivers well. Â The delivery is quick - usually arriving within 1/2 hour of the call. Â I usually get the fajita burrito - and it is very tasty. Â The peppers inside are very crispy. Â My wife usually gets the chicken enchiladas with the red salsa. Â She loves these enchiladas. Â They are good - but I prefer the green salsa.
The flaws are two:
(1) occasionally they will screw up the order;
(2) their salsa with the chips and salsa is good - but too often it comes cold - like close to freezing. Â They really need it to seem like it is coming fresh.
On Cinco de Mayo, where else do you go but for Mexican? Â After walking on a quest to a. get exercise, and b. enjoy a nice night, we stumbled upon Papacitos...a little non-assuming mexican dive staring at us from across the street. Â I've passed this place before, but this time, we thought long and hard about a stop in...and after consulting the Yelp reviews, we sat down at a small table in their front patio area. Â Thank you fellow Yelpers, for aiding in our lovely dining experience.
The chips were delicious, especially dipped in the awesome salsa. Â I was pleasantly surprised to look at the menu and discover some very reasonable prices...prices that my good friend Uncle Julio should consider. Â We both opted for the taco/quesadilla special...including one taco, one quesadilla, rice, beans, and a drink...all for the low low price of $7. Â Can't beat that. Â I had the steak taco and chicken quesadilla, and neither disappointed. Â I especially loved the quesadilla. Â
I've seen a few reviews about the lacking service, but our waitress was really friendly, fast, and kept a watchful eye to make sure we didn't need anything. Â What a pleasant surprise on such a nice spring night!
This review is for the food. The service was absolutely ridiculously terrible. Â
To start of the chips are the BEST. So thick, so crisp, so good! The salsa is really good if you don't like spicy foods, but I ended up adding hot sauce because I like a little kick.
The beans are delectable. Â I got a chicken taco with a side of beans and while their food is a litttttttttttttttttle tiny bit more expensive a la cart then most hole in the wall mexican places, it was worth it. Â The taco was really really good and my bofyriend got chicken enchilladas which he said were also really good.
The people who work there are really nice but completely ignore you when it comes to service. Â When i say ignore i mean the waitress will literally walk past your empty plates a million times before saying a word and my water wasn't filled once while i was there. Its just bad. But if you can handle it, the food will be great!
My friend and I were walking north on Lincoln on a mission we referred to as MexiQuest. Â The goal? Â To find a relatively cheap yet delicious Mexican restaurant.
MexiQuest was successfully accomplished as we walked into Papacito's. Â It's a small, no-frills joint - the kind of place you might bypass for weeks or months before finally trying it. Â But when you do, it's bound to become a dietary staple.
I ordered the steak burrito plate. Â The burrito was hot and the meat had some delicious seasoning going on. Â (This runs contrary to almost every bland, cold nightmare of a burrito I've sampled in Chicago.) Â I also enjoyed the side of rice. Â Complimentary chips and salsa rounded out the meal.
If I lived closer, I would hit Papacito's once a week.  A tip of my sombrero, amigos.  Your piñata of flavor is worth my hard-earned dinero.
Loved this place. Â Came here a week ago with a very large group of girls for a birthday party, and we got spectacular service. Â
The food? Â The enchiladas were excellent. Â I got the verde sauce, though I usually go with mole, because of a Yelp review I read before going. Â I was very impressed with the flavor and spice! Â We also got some really delicious decked-out nachos on the house! Â Nice touch. Â Damn good food, and damn fine establishment for a large group party!
I have a pretty serious addiction to papacitos. Â I've only eaten in once, but this is my absolute go to for mexican delivery. Â
Why? Â Well, I like enchiladas. Â I've found that you can't trust a strangers enchiladas, and let's face it, if your getting delivery, you're usually not interested in trying something new! Â
The enchiladas are the best I've had in chicago. Â Now, I haven't been to a Bayless restaurant, or to many mexican places outside of lakeview/lincoln park, so take that with a grain of salt, but I have tried at least 20 different enchiladas in the city, and I keep coming back to these.
I would recomend the verde, perfectly spicy. Â They also have some FANTASTIC chili rellenos. Â And the chips are greasy goodness. Â There salsa is not chunky but it packs a punch.
I must say I like it!
Damn good food.
My g/f had the veggie wrap which looked excellent but I didn't try it. Her only complaint was that it came cold which was not noted on the menu. I had the diabla shrimp which was AWESOME. Very spicy but not overpowering and it came with Tortilla shells which was great. I also had the fish taco and let me say that they do not scimp on the meat and the pineapple sauce was a nice addition. Best part about the order was the delivery....it literally took 30 minutes, well under the 1 hour time frame given. Delivery guy was also super friendly which was cool to. I'll definitely order again. Â Since this first review I have been back several times. Â While I stick with the fish tacos ( they are badass!)my girlfriend has moved on to the Enchiladas. Â They are amazing as well. Â Some of the best Mexican I've had on the North Side.
The service here is great and the food is good. Â Reasonably priced and it's BYOB. Â They often bring me free appetizers as I frequent the place.
The place is primarily booth seating for four so if you're bringing a group, you may need to wait to get tables pushed together at the front. Â There is limited outdoor seating that can get a little tight if they're busy.
I'm a fan of any place that gives my group free nachos. You just can't argue with that.
We went for a friend's bday and had a group of about 12. Papacito's was really nice about our large party (we called ahead), and as I mentioned before, free nachos. They also let you keep your been in the cooler so it doesn't get warm during the course of the evening, which I thought was great.
I had a combo platter and everything I tried was really good, but I ended up taking most of it home because I was too full from chips and salsa and (free...I just can't say it enough) nachos.
This place clearly knows the way to my heart.
This Mexican gemstone is a best kept secret!
This hole-in-the-wall is BYOB, which, let's face it, deserves a bonus star. Â The staff will let you sit at your table for hours on end...and the food is really great. Â
My only issue is that unfortunately, they do not have fountain soda...only cans. Â I don't know why this bothers me, but other than having to drink from the diet coke can, the rest of our dinner here was awesome.
Yum! This is now my neighborhood Mexican spot. The food is super fresh, inexpensive, and much more imaginative than your typical Mexican joint. Yep, Mexican food can have more ingredients than beef, cheese, beans, rice and tortilla! Â They usually have a really good, cheap daily special, which is helpful because everything on their menu sounds so tasty that it's hard to choose!
They have tons of vegetarian options that even a non-veg like myself is tempted to try. And the service is unbelievable! They are so quick on take-out orders, and the staff is really friendly. While the atmosphere isn't stellar (tile floor, with tables and chairs reminiscent of a late-night joint), I've eaten in here twice and had a great experience because of the service. And it's BYOB, which I love. They even have non-alcoholic Sangria that you can buy there, bring your booze, and have an authentic drink!
Go here. Or if you live in the neighborhood, order take-out, and they'll make your food fresh for you in like 5 minutes. Literally.
I love this place. It is close by so I have never done takeout but they seem to do a lot of takeout business. If you go during the week, it tend to be pretty quiet. It is pretty unassuming but the wait staff is extremely friendly (they are quick with fresh free chips and a salsa as well as a pitcher of water on the table)
I have to mention the jicima salad. It comes with pineapple, black beans, peppers and jicima (a ton of it) Â along with a pineapple dressing. It is perfect for a summer meal or a lite meal at any time. Also the fish tacos are delicious. The fish is fresh and meaty and yum yum yum. One taco is $2.69 but you really get a lot of fish and fixings. Â The salad portion is huge. Â I also like how they note that some menu items are vegetarian and vegan.
I am also fan because they don't cover everything with cheese and the ingredients are fresh and non greasy. It isn't the most impressive place but it is simple and inexpensive. Try sitting out here in the summer, they have a cute little patio. I want to come back and do a BYOB dinner here.
Had some Papa's for lunch the other day. Â Called in for delivery but was told the wait time would be 45 minutes...seeing as I'm only about a 5 minute walk, I decided to go pick it up myself...this cut the wait time to 15min...awesome!
So, I tried something new...a black bean burrito. Â Delicious! Â A giant tortilla filled with black beans (duh!) onion, red, green and yellow peppers, cilantro and maybe some other spices. Â Usually comes with rice but I'm not a big rice fan so I went sans rice. Â I got it covered in salsa with some cheese melted on top...also comes with sides of rice and beans!
Anyway, besides the burrito I had the chips, salsa and guacamole...yum!
It's been a while since I've ordered but I feel like the food was a little better than I remember, and that's never a bad thing!
I ordered delivery from this place last night, and although the after-effects were less than spectacular (think Dumb and Dumber minus the strange haircuts, brightly colored tuxedos and the owl... wait, was there an owl? I think I remember an owl. But why? What did an owl have to do with anything? Did the owl get killed? I think it might have. But again, why?) the consumption of the food itself was quite nice. And really, Mexican food is all about the subsequent destruction of porcelain apparatuses, right? Â
I've yet to find a really regular Mexican place in Chicago, and while I'm not quite sure this is it, I definitely feel that it earned a repeat testing.
While nothing I had was spectacularly overwhelming, the facts are:
- The food-- meat, veggies and flour based products-- all tasted fresh.
- The rice tasted Mexican, as Mexican rice is supposed to.
- The portions were generous and the prices cheap.
- The delivery guy had a sweet-ass ponytail and one sparkling gold tooth.
-The food itself was solid.
Oh sure, it could have been greasier, but the lack of said grease makes you feel like you treated yourself a little better than you expected to. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I suppose.
It's a winner, folks.
Underwheming, in general. Â Tasteless guacamole, which is a real disappointment for me. Â The chicken in the burrito was okay, the salsa was slightly spicy, and the chips tasted home-baked. Â Weirdly, the quesadilla appetizers arrived vastly different from how they're described in the menu. Â They tasted okay, but still, we were looking for a basic cheese quesadilla.
We ordered this in, and I do have to admit that it was very quick. Â But very expensive too. Â I can't imagine we'll ever eat here again.
I was feeling adventurous on my walk to the bank, so I just walked in the nearest door that had a sign indicating that food is served behind said door. It's amazing that I even saw the door because Papacito's is well-camouflaged, including a gigantic window air conditioner above the door that leaks on your head as you walk in. Pleasant.
It's places like this that challenge my curiosity to think of [legal] ways businesses can make enough money to not go under within two months. I got there at 12:15, prime lunch time, and there was one guy leaving as I sat down. No one else entered while I was there through 1:00. Your gross revenue isn't even enough to pay the rent!
As I sat eating my Mexican pizza, I felt like I was in a garden apartment rather than an above-ground place of business. Instead of wall-to-ceiling glass on the storefront or something close to it, there are three sets of French doors with hardly any glass on them and a few planters hanging on them from the outside which eliminate almost all natural light inside the restaurant.
The salsa was unique and good, but everything else was just run-of-the-mill Mexican food. I don't see myself making any special trips back there.
This place serves Mexican food for white people. Â My friends and I ordered dinner from them last night and were not impressed. I had the chilaquiles, which were bland even after I dumped all my salsa on them. My friend had ground beef tacos and didn't like them and my other friend had enchiladas, which he did like (he's white, haha.)
I did like the homemade horchata.
If you like lard-less refried beans you should give this place a try. Otherwise, go to Pilsen for Mexican food made for Mexicans.
I work within a block of this restaurant and I honestly never noticed it. It's a small hole-in-the wall restaurant that doesn't look too appealing from the outside but don't let that fool you because the food is good and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly.
The menu is nothing particularly special; just your typical Mexican restaurant menu, but they do have a small list of salads that you'd expect to see at Panera if you're craving a quasi-gourmet salad instead of Mexican food.
The prices are on point with the quality and portion size. If you're in the hood, I'd say check it out, but I wouldn't say it's worth the trip if you're not. I am giving it only 3 stars for its lack of something special, you know, that special oomph that makes a place stand out. I think people rave about this place because there aren't many burrito joints in that part of Lakeview and Papacito's satisfies that need, but that's not a good enough reason for me.
I order breakfast/lunch from here all the time. I love it and heres why:
hungover, sleepy me ' can i have a breakfast burrito?"
them "sure it comes with peppers, onions, avocado, mushrooms?"
me- in pain "no. can i just have eggs and potatoes? im REALLY hungover, I mean- bad. I think i need some diet coke too. please help me'
them 'you poor thing, well make whatever you want and get it right over to you and well even give you free chips and salsa"
They WALKED it over to me.
Really. Rather than wait for a delivery driver they walked it over.
if thats not the most amazing thing ever, well I just don't lkow what.
So i obviously have to order from there all the time, and its always great.
Sometimes you look at a place and know exactly what to expect. Such was my experience at Papacito's. The interior is simple, the service is casual and the food is better than that of most tiny Mexican restaurants. I was very pleased with my enchiladas suizas, particularly because, unlike those at a lot of other places, they weren't drowning in sauce or completely smothered by cheese. In fact, I don't think I've ever had an enchilada suiza with such a perfect amount of cheese. Another plus was that the ground beef tasted freshly prepared rather than scooped out of a vat of D-grade pre-made filling. I noticed that the menu also featured a number of vegetarian and vegan options, and I can't think of any other lower-end Mexican restaurant whose menus even acknowledge vegans. Bonus: I live within the delivery range so I'll be able to test the future quality of its food and delivery service.
Edit: I just discovered that the delivery minimum is an outrageous $20, so I guess I'll have to hold off until I have a guest or two. That kinda sucks, so I'm knocking my review down to three stars from my original four.
Papacito's is great for what it is. Â A step above your typical fast food burrito takeout joint and a step below a full blown sit-down restaurant.
I've had most things on the menu and haven't really been disappointed with anything. Â The chicken fajitas are excellent, I've never had a problem with the quality of the meat. Â I've had the carne asada a couple of times and it's probably one of the better takeout versions I've eaten. Â The tortas and tacos are good as well. Â Nothing is really extraordinary, but it's all very good food.
The people that work here are super nice as well, the owner is there quite often and they'll usually hook me up w/free chips and salsa on a takeout order. Â It's the small details like that that keep me ordering from here once a week. Â If you're in the neighborhood, it's definitely worth stopping in for dinner or ordering some takeout.
