I almost never write reviews, but we had an exceptional experience with Pelago yesterday.  I needed a location to host a group lunch meeting and I needed a) privacy, b) good food, and c) a guarantee to be in and out in 1 hr 15 minutes.  Pelago gave us a beautiful private table in a small room with a fireplace which was perfect for a business meeting, and a set 3 course menu, which I found to be excellent value.  Our wonderful head waiter, Lydia, did a wonderful job keeping everything timed perfectly, and I couldn't have asked for better service.  The food was delicious, and we were able to place all the orders several days in advance to expedite the process on the day.  The atmosphere was perfect: elegant, very quiet light background music (classical), and private in our little area.  I would return here without question, and would love to spend more than just an hour and a bit next time.

Excellent service and excellent food (the pastas are amazing!)! Chicago really needs more upper scale quaint little Italian restaurants like this.

My girlfriend and I, both foodies familiar with high-end Italian and homemade pastas were EXTREMELY disappointed with the food and service. We were actually KICKED OUT by he chef.  We had an experience very similar to Ninos A below re: our experience with the chef and being kicked out. Other reviewers are also on-point re the up sells to already overpriced food.

Salad was average.  Lack of flavor to dressing.  We sent back the octopus app, b/c as another reviewer also commented, it was mushy and undercooked.  Yes, I have had octopus many times and know what it should taste like.  Similarly, we had to send back the truffle pasta as it was CRUNCHY. Not al dente.  CRUNCHY. So the owner comes stomping out from the kitchen.  Angry and aggressive. Insulting us telling us that we don't know good food (and trust me, we have been everywhere). That we don't know what homemade pasta tastes like (um, maybe he should go try it at Babbo, Spiaggia or Merlo).  Do we know who he is?  He is a Michelin-starred chef.  "Get out of my restaurant!" We were shocked, mortified and embarrassed for him.  Absolutely appalling.
