I've rarely seen people in this place. I'm perplexed how they get rid of the eleventy billion shelves of baked goods inside. The couple times that I've been in the service was pretty surly and the product overpriced and okay.
And what's up with the empty parking lot?! So odd.
On my list of places in my neighborhood where I wish they would build a Trader Joe's. #1 is the Dialysis Center they just opened on Kimball above Diversey. Sorry Diabetics.
This Pierre's Bakery has been at this location for at least
20 years..
And.. for the record.. they have some fancy looking cakes
and cake slices and they have cases filled with muffins
and crescents and some other pastry type stuff.
They also have some pretty nice/good cookies that they sell by the pound..
I bought like 9 cookies today for less than $3.00!
I am proud to be a low maintenance woman!
Okay.. so this one lady picked up a cake today while I was there
and the total price for said cake was pretty high so I think that
depending what type of cake you order be prepared to mortgage your house
to pay your bill..
And.. as of January 7, 2013 Pierre's is leaving the Logan Square
location and moving to 1956 W Chicago Ave..(Chicago and Damen)
So do not go to Logan Square for your Tres Leches no more!
So.. I was pretty happy with my 9 cookies and I dont like Tres Leches
so I guess all is good.
Pierre's..you have had a good run in Logan Square..
May you have great success as well in your new location..
Thats a Wrap..
The quality of their cakes used to be really good couple of years back but now they seem to have an odor as well as taste what clearly implies the cake is old even after they supposedly say they just finished making it.
So I wouldn't recommend this bakery to get your cakes.....moreover, they have jacked up the prices too while the quality of their cakes diminish.
I walked in hoping to buy a selection of pastries. I didn't see tongs or bags by the display cases so I wasn't sure how to proceed. The girls at the counter were so busy conversing that they successfully ignored me for 10 minutes, though the place was empty.
I walked out and went somewhere they don't ignore customers.
Two stars because the  place was bright, airy, spotlessly clean, and the baked goods looked amazing.  But zero for service and hospitality.
I can forgive the tacky interior decorations, as I am sure some people are delighted by that sort of thing, but I just found the entire experience very "off", in fact, basically every step of our experience had some peculiarity that left us scratching our heads. Â I will describe some of those here in no particular order:
1. Â We asked for our coffee to be put into our travel mugs, the cashier obliged, but used separate styrofoam cups to measure out the coffee for each of our drinks, poured its contents into our travel mugs, then threw away the styrofoam cups. Â Obviously this completely cancelled out the benefit of using a travel mug.
2. Â The cashier took our order at one register, and made us walk all the way around the counter to the other register to pay...even though the person in front of us paid at the register we ordered at.
3. Â I gave the cashier change so that I would only get bills back (i.e. total was $X.37, I gave them $(X+1).37). Â The cashier gave me quarters, dimes, and nickels as change.
4. Â The pastries just weren't good.
5. Â The coffee was not good at all (scalded milk in latte, burnt grounds in the drip).
6. Â Everything was super expensive: the non-croissant croissant was 2-2.5 times as expensive as other bakeries throughout the city, and the coffee was steep.
Just a very bizarre experience, we won't be back
you walk in and it is heaven.
my bf's mom used to get a slice of their tres leches cake for me every time she knew we were visiting, which i'm sure contributed to my freshmen-senior 30 in college. no freshie 15 for me...i paced mine out over 4 years!
so i think all i've tried from there is the tres leches, and some vanilla cake with glazed fruit and coconut. i'm glad i don't live close to this bakery, otherwise i'd have serious health problems.
TRES LECHES!!!! that is all.
I would love to give this place more stars since their fresh conchas are absolutely amazing! My only problem with this place their unreliability. The first time we went there were no conchas at all. We got there around 10am and told us that the baker had had an emergency and was going in late and that the conchas would be ready at 1pm. We went back at 1pm and had fresh and delicious conchas. Fine. I can understand someone having an emergency. However, I went there around 1pm today to get some pan de muerto (day of the dead bread) and they told me that it would not be ready until 4pm. Fine, I went back with my mom at 430 and there was no pan de muerto anywhere. I asked for it and the lady said if it's not out we don't have any. So I told her that we were told to come back at that time and if she could please check.
Guess what? she checked and came back and said that it would not be ready for another hour or hour and half because the baker had an emergency earlier and had not gotten started on the baking of the bread yet! This now just seems to be an excuse they like to use.
My husband is a baker and he goes to work at 4am not 1pm or 4pm. I'm not going back for the bread I want again because that's too much running around.
One whiff of the air and there's no turning back back!
Seriously, my sister took me in here on Monday (just to show my around) and after smelling what can only be the closet thing to ambrosia as possible, I had to go before leaving Logan Square.
We tried one of the slices with chocolate cake, cheese cake, yellow cake & strawberries (which seem to come on everything).
The slice was destroyed
The Good: strawberries matched with the cheese cake.
The Not As Incredible: The chocolate cake. Full disclosure: I'm pick about my pastel de chocolate. But I definitely would stick to the vanilla or strawberry.
Definitely a fan and think it would be great for dates!
So I need some sort of treat for a workplace group of about seventy five  people. I knew they had gotten most of the usual stuff like Dunkin Donuts, paczkis and kolaczkies so I decided I was going to bring in a tres leches cake and churros.
Unfortunately I save things for the last minute and the place I was going to order this from was closed for a week for summer vacation. So I I'll admit Pierre's was my second choice thanks to the search function on my phone. As a side note I find myself spending a lot of money based on Yelp searches. I drive by here often but this bakery would have never come to mind.
Anyway, I ordered up up my cake and churros. The bigger tres leches cake is kind of expensive but thats the nature of the beast.
WIth the baked good I also brought in a fruit tray (from Stracks) because there's always a subgroup of people who are dieting and/or eating healthy. Everything was devoured by the end of the day and I got thanks and rave reviews on the tres leches cake and churros from here.
every single inch of the four star is for the Tres Leches cake they bake here! its moist, yummy, not too sweet.
It tastes even better the next day, when all the cream is soaked up!
I haven't tried any of their other cakes, cause i could never get over the tres leches and walked out with that alone.
I have been going to Pierres bakery for the past 3 years. I always get my kids birthday cakes from here, because we love the strawberry cakes. Â After this year i will no longer have my cakes made there.
It was the day of my daughters 4th birthday and i went to pick up my cake. I had the pick up set for 10:30. My cake was not ready. I waited 15 minutes more and it still was not ready. They asked if they could deliver it and i said no. I have a party reserved in schaumburg for 11:30. There was no way this cake was going to make it on time. I waited and they tried to convince me to have it delivered and i explained to them "NO".
Finally the cake came out at 11:15 am, and let me tell you. This was not the cake i ordered. I ordered this purple and pink frosting with 3 princesses on the top. The cake they brought out was a puke yellow cake in the shape of a crown. All i said was "what the hell is that?". This is not what i ordered. Thank go my husband was with me because i broke down. Â The woman explained to me, that who ever took my reservation did not write down the specifics of what i wanted. We asked for the manager/chef and he said this has been happening alot and he was very sorry.
As i was standing there about to cry, they were not offering me anything in return. No refunds, no other kind of damn cake. Just this awful looking gross, yellow thing in front of me. Â I had to ask them to refund me. the chef agreed. Called me the next day to get my information and as of today i have not been refunded!
I will no longer be going to Pierres. So so so disappointed!
Terrible service, ugly cake, and tasted awful. Â I ordered a baptism cake for my daughter and I didn't want a plastic priest and god parents, I wanted something more tasteful. Â The RUDE staff just did not want to help me create a beautiful cake, they pointed me to the very tacky airbrushed cakes with plastic babies on them.
Finally got them to assist me in creating a cake - Â but when it came it was so ugly. Â It looked like a child did the lettering and there were two flowers on it and the rest blank! Â
It got worse! The cake itself was soggy and the icing and filing were greasy, it was disgusting. Â And it was criminal how expensive it was. Â
For her birthday I went to Jewel paid 1/3 of the price and the cake was very pretty and it was good. Â And the staff were VERY nice. Â My god these people act like they are giving you a kidney when you order a cake from them.
This place has the very best tres leches cake that I've really ever had, but other than that EVERYTHING else is a bust. There prices are ok not too high, and every thing in their displays look so tasty. I've tried just about all of that stuff that looks so yummy and have found that all their efforst are placed solely on presentation and not taste at all.
Review Source:okay i live right by this place and it kills me not to shop here. First, their cookies suck, they crumble into dust they are so dry. The pastries also suck.. i've tried the ice creams as well which are very expensive, and I can get the same from the Baskin Robbins around the corner for cheaper, or go to the gelato place on milwaukee. went there the other night as I was in need of french bread. Bought some chocolate oreo cake, as I love sweets and my nephew a slice of strawberry cheesecake. The chocolate cake was crusty and the cookie on top was soft and wet. virtually tasteless, the cheesecake strawberry syrup on top was hard and could be peeled off. Â they never ever shovel the side of the building on spaulding and their garbage cans are always open.
Review Source:I have to preface this and say that I am not a huge fan of sweets. However, I was first introduced to this place many years ago through some Hispanic friends who loved their cakes. I have tried a number of them and I have to say, they kinda look a lot better than they taste. They have all kinds of fruits on them, frosting etc and they really do look amazing. For my tastes they are a little overly sweet (again I don't have the sweet tooth gene) and a little "heavy". They are also quite expensive, maybe $40 for a birthday cake. I will agree that the inside of the bakery (as well as the outside) is pristine. I really liked the fact that you could go in and have a cup of coffee and a sweet bread or slice of cake. Definitely give this place a try, especially if you are a fan of the sweeter things in life.
Review Source:When it's good it's incredibly good. Â When it's bad you know it's old. Â People will buy day old pastry but they want to know the pastry is old and they want that pastry at a reduced price.
As products go... when fresh, the summertime watermelon cookies are light and sweet with just the right amount of chocolate chips and vanilla. Â And when those cookies are old, it's like eating coagulated crumbs.
I don't know what they are called, but those muffin sized little pie pastries are amazing. Â The crust is perfect. Â Get the one with cheese filling: it has just the right amount of lemon.
The elephant ears are excellent as well... but only when fresh and that's all the staff ever tells you they are.
The 3 leche cake tastes as good as everyone says but it sits in your stomach like a brick.
This place can be great and also gross. Â When choosing your pastries give them a poke with the tongs to test the freshness... though even that can sometimes be misleading.
Give it a try at least. Â The staff is always pleasant.
Had a coworkers BBQ tin Algonquin (never never land) to attend last weekend, and it was also the week of her birthday. So I opted to bring a cake. Yelping, I found this place was right in my area and I heard the raves about the tres leches cake. I thought GREAT I've been craving it for such a long while.
In short, it was DEVOURED. In my opinion, I think I prefer my tres leches to the point of just  d r i p p i n g with milk.  But still, this dessert sufficed. In fact, it totally trumped the key lime pie at the BBQ. I snickered because the guests were mostly caucasian and were fascinated by the moisture of the cake. ^_^ I snickered under my breath. Go tres leches go!   They've never heard of the cake and just HAD to know where I got it from.
I'll be back for more. The gelato looked a little suspicious to me, but i will have to test taste any place that takes on gelato.
I'll update my review or my stars once I've had more to review on. But I'm happy I yelped it. Â I loved the tres leches cake.... I think they hit it on the head with the frosting and the strawberries... but the cake itsself coulda been just a tad more sweet and a tad more moist.
Even mid week bbq's require a respectable dessert! Well...try 3
My cousin knew of a bakery not far from their house. Â Headed over there and wow, they had such a huge array of bakery goods. Â Loved that the cakes were sold for individual servings, and this made for an easy pick for a variety plate.
Oreo cake- filling tasted just like the classic cookie. Â Cake dense and moist
Atomic cake- gonna dub someone else's saying (you know who you are): Â OHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMGEEEEE. Â I was excited alone that they even offered this cake, as I've only seen and had it from one other bakery, said bakery, Orland Bakery. Â All the layers of cake were moist, held it's own tier flavor, but all meshed very well. Â
Tres Leche Jello- not too sweet, but still very satisfying to your sweet tooth. This jello was star player!!! Â Loved how the jello had more firmness to it.
Cookies were alright, but a bit overpriced at $12.99. Â Sure, I know butter is expensive these days, but the cookies weren't good enough to account for that price. Â I know of other bakeries whose goodies tasted better and were cheaper by the pound. Â
Be careful of the parking lot, as the entrances/exits are narrow and not labeled! Â Someone in a hurry to get their bakery goods may not see this, and run into an accident!
This is the best bakery ever!
Well, maybe not EVER, but it is by far the most beautiful, immaculate bakery I have ever been to. Â It not only looks good from the outside, but the inside is sparkling. Â The glass showcase windows are seamless and so clean that it appears you can just stick your hands right into the cake (I say this as I nurse my bruised fingertips). Â
The cakes here are perfect, moist, delicious. Â The selection is great. Â You've got to come here and see it to believe it. Â Some have complained about the prices, but the old saying, "You get what you pay for" applies here.
Since we moved to Logan square we have enjoy different places for dinning, brunch, and pastries. i am only giving 3 starts for the following reasons:
!. There is only 1 person at the counter and it is difficult to communicate when the person doesn't know much of English.
2.It is a friendly store, but there are no restrictions against children running around or screaming out loud.
I was there with my husband when the kids were playing in the store and it was so loud, the cashier didn't do anything like asking the parent to stop their kids, instead i we were the ones leaving! No. i couldn't buy anything.
3There is not much information of the pastries along the wall, like made with flower, strawberry filling, blueberry  muffing ??? etc.
OK, my husband took me there  afew days ago (i was a bit sick) and pick up a few things from the store (Well, he grabbed more than a few), i was waiting outside with the dog.
The Churros, looks like a long wooden sticks, they were pretty good, fresh, crispy with a white filling.
The corn bread, WOW! it taste a bit like a flan, it was delicious, a must to try.
The Cake rompope, is like a small cake filled in the center with a mexican rompope (eggnog) it has some alcohol.
So, in general a nice store, needs to improve, but very affordable. Yes i will come back.
If you're looking for the perfect tres leches cake for a party please purchase it from here. The one we had for Christmas was absolutely fantastic. The reason I'm giving this place 3 stars is because I don't have any more experience with it outside of this cake and I don't want to be ultra bias one way or another. But it was INCREDIBLE. You have to order in advance though so they can make it. It wasn't the prettiest decorated but it was very tasty and I'd get it again, and for about $40 it's a good price for that sort of cake.
Review Source:Labels. I marked Pierres down before on this and i'm doing so again because they still aren't great, but they have made a start.
The pain au rasins are forever yummy, as are the donuts and other things i've sampled.
The one exception to this was the chocolate cake (in the pastries counter not the fancy cake counter).
Dry as a bone, despite looking moist. The icing was super chocolatey and yummy- but the cake itself was bland.
One of the worst chocolate cakes I've ever tried.
I guess cake-wise they donate all their time to the fancier ones which is fair enough...
But overall, its a nice place to snack if you are in the neighbourhood.
A solid bake shop that is a staple of my weekend hangover cures. Â A trip here for a couple donuts and then a short jaunt down the street to Cafe Con Leche for their namesake has made many a weekend morning bearable again.
As I said, I mostly get donuts, but I do also enjoy their turnovers and other random things they throw in the pastry case. Â While a lot of the things look tasty, the problem I have is that a lot of times the pastries aren't labelled. Â Now that's not so bad when it's flat out obvious what it is, but sometimes baked goods (especially donuts) may contain fillings that are not obvious from the outside. Â They've been making some strides in this field but it's still not quite good enough.
Of course, all that is forgiven because what they have is tasty and it smells amazing inside.
Pierre's seems completely out of place among the dollar stores and barred windows along this stretch of Milwaukee, and it's hard to believe that this palatial building is just a bakery! I think the marble-like interior and fancy windows are to impress those new brides who come in there to get super-fancy wedding cakes. It was totally surreal!
It was nice to walk around inside and see all of the types of desserts they have, but it was a warm day so I ended up going with the ice cream. There were no labels anywhere that said what flavors were there, so the girl behind the counter had to go through each one and say what it was. The caramel I tried was delicious, but I ended up going with pineapple because I wanted something more fruity. However once I got my cone I was a little disappointed that it didn't taste much like pineapple at all.
It was also strange that I was the only person in the whole place sitting and eating my ice cream, and apparently that just had to be the moment that they decided to mop the entire floor? They mopped around me and everything, and I was just wondering if they couldn't have waited the 5 minutes until I was gone to do that. Oh well.
I gave it 3 stars for my experience, but I only tried the ice cream and I'm sure the pastries are good, I just don't think I'll be going back there to give it a second chance.
This five star rating is for the bathroom in this marble mausoleum. yes. for realz. It's like the Palace of Versailles up in there; chandelier, statues, ornate full-length mirrors. I was surprised a river didn't run thru it w/ fairies and shit. And yes, the staff is a wee bit aloof, but they'll get to ya. And when they do, get the empanada cookie - stuffed w/ jam and then half-dipped in chocolate and sprinkles. throw some leche up in the mix and you'll be livin your life like its golden (TM Jill Scott)!
Review Source:It's only ok if you're there for non-Latino baked goods. That being said, their Latino baked goods are YUMMY! But, a little overpriced. Don't go in expecting to get American-tasting cookies- be daring and try one of the many different types of sweet stuff they have but know that you can get the same thing cheaper elsewhere....
Review Source:Their cakes are amazing. Â The Tres Leches cake is yummy, but my favorite is the Atomic cake, which has about five layers of both yellow and chocolate cake, a strawberry layer, and a cheesecake layer. Â (A cheesecake layer! Â It's like they knew I was coming!) Â Get the one that is drizzled in chocolate and not the red jelly stuff.
Also good are their fruit tarts, cookies, gelato and other pastries. Â I have never been disappointed whenever I've gotten food items here. Â
I also like that they're open early and right next to the Spaulding entrance to the Logan Square Blue line, because ever since I brought one of their cakes in for a co-worker's birthday, I am now the official cake lady. Â I can get in there early and catch a seat on the train downtown when I'm carrying one of their huge cake boxes.
The new Pierre's spot is quite an experience. Â It's got real as well as faux marble floors and walls and all the ornate, gold, french-inspired finishes you could ever want from a bakery. They even have outdoor seating on Milwaukee next to a subway vent for the blue line and a unnecessarily large parking lot, which is a surprisingly nice spot sit and eat one of their delicious sorbets. Â
The BEST thing at this bakery though is the tres leches cake. Â Sold by the cake or the slice. Â It is out of this world. Â The cake is soaked in just the right amount of milk and the whipped cream frosting isn't too sweet.
I was in Logan Square, searching for an apartment two summers ago- the first thing I smelled when i got out of the stop, was the sweet sweet smell of baking sugar. It smelled like a funnel cake! Â and certainly was a deciding factor to moving into the neighborhood- but when I finally ventured inside..to my surprise the pastries did not live up to the decor. I've had coffee, ice cream and numerous cookies there- and they were at best, as good as the cookies you can get at the grocery store.
I have not had a cake from there- and i was super impressed by their giant wedding cake display. Perhaps- their cakes are better then their cookies.
While their are many many staff members around- they are not always helpful, or eager to help. I found them to be aloof.
I'm a huge fan of clean, nicely lit, and attractive bakeries. Â This place fits the bill perfectly. Â The food glistens (egg washed everything) and the fruit tarts make Oak Mill Bakery look sad in comparison. Â The best parts of Pierre's are that they have a parking lot, they are open early and late, they have a huge selection ranging from cookies, to wedding cakes, to what I love the most - a gelato counter. Â Be sure to go here if you want to impress someone who loves calorie filled deliciousness. Â Only complaint - no signs on the fresh baked breads, croissants, pastry types on the side wall which had me eating an empanada for breakfast today instead of what I thought was a tart. Â Oops. Â Still tasty though.
Review Source:I like this bakery. Â It's convenient and inexpensive, which helps when I have to bring in pastry for my "Donut Day" at the office. Â But, often I find that the cakes, cookies, and pastry fall just short of my expectations. Â I don't know, maybe it's just my tastes but everything that I've had has been pretty average.
Review Source:When my local Bakery closed down after 40 years (Vienna Pastry Shop ---RIP) I went looking for a replacement. Â Now my old place was pretty damned close to the perfect bakery, and became my favorite in the whole city! Â And when motivated I could walk there! Â So with pain in my heart, I set out to find a new Bakery within a reasonable drive. Â Pierre's was a logical place to start, and I've given it a couple shots:
The building looks swank from the outside, and it has a parking lot next to it, so access is easy, but this stretch of Milwaukee Ave is a zoo for driving on weekends. Â Inside its cold- all hard Marble and shiny stuff, but clean. Â There are a ton of helpful girls behind the counter taking orders, and the place definitely has no problem with selling cakes on weekends.
This places specializes as a Mexican bakery, and I've found their selection of cakes to lean on the sweeter side than I would normally go for. Â Lots of big, red strawberries under that gelatinous glaze decorating the tops of very large cream covered cakes. Â If this is your thing, you're going to really like this place.
But this is not generally my thing, so I've experimented a bit. Â Everything I've tried has been very good for what it is- fresh ingredients, well prepared, etc. Â Their Tres Leches will induce instant food coma- one piece and you're done, and that's a good thing! Â But in general, I haven't found anything for my particular tastes here, and I have pretty much realized that this will never be a regular bakery for me.
So if you want a really good Tres Leches, or a great big party cake covered in cream and maybe oreo cookies, well this is your place. Â But if you're like me and often want a nice flourless chocolate cake, or maybe a raspberry tart that involves some kind of chocolate, or a nice seasonal fruit pie, or some kind of coffee cake or donut, I recommend you look elsewhere. Â If you find a place nearby- let me know since I'm still looking!
If you're looking for authentic "Tres Leches" cake - a traditional Mexican birthday cake made with 3 types of milk  (whole milk, evaporated milk , and sweetened condensed milk), Pierre's is the place.  For about $2.00 per person thay can make a cake that will serve 20 people.  Not only is the cake delicious but the decorations are stunning!
Or if you are in the market for a gorgeous wedding cake you've also come to the right place. Â Pierre's carries both traditional Mexican baked goods such as orejas and conchas, in addition to fancy French pastries such as fruit tarts, blanche mange and petit fores. Â You can also order a cup of coffee and a little treat and relax and enjoy at one of the cafe tables.
