I LOVE their pizza!!! This is my 2nd favorite pizza place in Chicago. The crust is so good. It's flaky and thin-ish. Not greasy. Price is good. We got a HUGE pizza for $23 - about 3 meals for 2 people. This place isn't usually packed unless it's right after the kids from the high school across the street are let out. I've also seen someone have a kids birthday party here - great idea. The owner is so nice and friendly and he is usually your waiter and the chef.
Other people mentioned the cheap slices they sell. I've only ordered that once. Ordering a freshly made pizza is definitely the way to go.
I drive by this joint every day, and it's always dim inside, and they don't seem to do much business. Â However--they make a mean calzone. Â Perfect crust, but too much cheese and not enough sauce. Â If they evened out that balance this thing would be the crown jewel of my calzone search. Â As it is, I will keep coming by here on my way home from work. Â I've already got their number in my phone.
Review Source:DO NOT BUY BY THE SLICE.
Order the pizza you want to have, and it will come fresh and fast.
I paid $6,60 for a 9" Â mushroom pizza and I loved it. I'm a picky vegetarian, and not many places have the options they do with this price.
The place should be less hidden, though. Better signalized.
I'm an absolute pizza fanatic and I never thought I'd see the day when I'd find a pizza I couldn't eat-enter Pizzeria Calzone. Yes the slices here are cheap but they are truly awful. I felt like I was eating lightly salted cardboard. It was the total opposite of NY style pizza. And also, I saw a credit card machine but the cashier told me they don't take credit cards. I asked why but I couldn't understand one word of his explanation. There's way too many good pizza spots to ever need to come back here,
Review Source:Are you sick and tired of pizza from Domino's or Pizza Hut? That's exactly how I felt when I decided to give this place a try. It's easy to miss since the sign isn't very big (it's overpowered by the sushi place next door).
This restaurant is the classical mom and pop shop atmosphere. My boyfriend decided to try a calzone and I wanted something other than pizza so I decided on their cobb salad. The owner was very pleasant when he took our orders.
My salad arrived first to the table and it was huge!! There were real Feta cheese (not the packaged Americanized Feta) and 2 other different kinds of cheese on the gigantic plate. I told him about my pork allergies so he made fresh turkey that's been salted. There were fresh romaine lettuce with eggs and sliced cucumber. To top everything off, he brought me fresh bread he just baked straight from the oven. All this for $6.95, very good deal if you ask me.
The calzone arrived a few minutes after the salad. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I've had many different kinds of pizzas and calzones all over the country and I must say this is the best one hands down!! This thing was the size of a 12 inch pizza and my boyfriend ate every piece of it.
This restaurant is absolutely amazing. Compared to the quality of the food, the prices are very reasonably cheap. As for me, I will never go back to the chain pizza places ever again!!
they do a decent NY style slice, and that's saying something for a Chicago based pizzeria. They are, in fact, right across the street from Mather High School, so they are flooded with high school kids during the day. I've never tried it in the evenings, but if you know the Mather schedule, you can get in there 10 minutes before the period ends, when all the kids are leaving to get to their next class, and get an order in and done pretty quickly. The staff is friendly enough.
Review Source:Big slices of pizza, with or without toppings, for $2 is a good deal. Even better when it's delicious. Tastes like pretty authentic pizza to me. If it's not, it satisfies my cravings. It's also BYOB.
Right after they take the pizza out of the oven, he brushes olive oil on it and adds some herbs. Yum! I've tried samples of some other items and have no complaints.
Considering the name, it's surprising that there aren't calzones on the menu. It might have a different meaning than food though (a town or inside Italian joke?). If you're hungry and don't have a lot of cash, try Pizzeria Calzone.
Is it Calzone pizzeria or Pizzeria calzone? Â There's a difference between the signs on the store and the Internet directory.
This is where high school kids go to catch $2 slices & where Police are found enjoying a late lunch on weekend afternoons. Â On very random weekends would you be able to find them open late night. Â Otherwise they typically close very early. Â However, say if there's a local festival going on, they may stay open longer. Â The pizza is plain. Sauce is not sweet, more of a salty flavor. Â I was there with a salt fanatic and he thought the pizza was great. Â What I thought was great: they'd run out of slices and the guy was willing to make us individual pizzas the size of two large NY style slices. Â 15 minutes later we were eating our slices. Â At 2 am its alright. Not heavy, not oily or greasy. Â I've tried them out a few times now and there's nothing more to report. Â Standard affordable pizza joint.
